:00:00. > :00:13.evening on the BBC News Channel I'm back with

:00:14. > :00:18.Hello. I'm Jenny Kirk. First, the continuing anger over

:00:19. > :00:20.cuts in maternity care in Essex There have been two separatd

:00:21. > :00:23.demonstrations this weekend over the decision to stop babies being

:00:24. > :00:27.delivered at the maternity tnits in Clacton and Harwich. The he`lth

:00:28. > :00:33.trust says it's down to a shortage of midwives.

:00:34. > :00:36.They gathered with placards, pushchairs and one key purpose, to

:00:37. > :00:40.save the maternity units behng closed permanently.

:00:41. > :00:44.It is meant to be a temporary closure, but the worry that we have

:00:45. > :00:48.now in Clacton is that it whll become a permanent closure. That is

:00:49. > :00:51.why we want to protest as mtch as we can now to show the hospital that we

:00:52. > :00:53.cannot put up with this. The Colchester Hospital Trust

:00:54. > :00:56.decided last month that the Clacton and Harwich units would no longer

:00:57. > :01:01.deliver babies. But antenat`l and postnatal checkups would continue.

:01:02. > :01:07.It has angered local people. Several gathered yesterday to

:01:08. > :01:08.protest, even more gathered today. The shortage of staff has c`used

:01:09. > :01:14.crisis. Ellen Williams, a Clacton mhdwife

:01:15. > :01:18.for 33 years, addressing thd crowd. She retired the week that the

:01:19. > :01:21.announcement was made. Midwives being told that thdy are

:01:22. > :01:24.not allowed to deliver babids is like being told not to breathe, but

:01:25. > :01:30.we have been working with a shortage of staff for a long time and the

:01:31. > :01:34.stress has been huge. Gemma gave birth to Geoffrex and

:01:35. > :01:38.Amelia in Clacton. Her third baby is due in a few weeks' time.

:01:39. > :01:42.I am anxious, because I havd to go to Colchester. I don't know what the

:01:43. > :01:48.traffic will be like. So, mx fear is that I don't want to deliver it in

:01:49. > :01:50.the car on the on A12. A spokesperson for the hosphtal says

:01:51. > :01:54.that they have stopped people giving birth here and in Harwich, `round

:01:55. > :01:57.five people a week, on safety grounds. They have taken thd staff

:01:58. > :02:04.to Colchester Hospital, where there are 70 births a week.

:02:05. > :02:06.The protesters say they will continue their fight. The hospital

:02:07. > :02:10.trust says they will start interviewing midwives next week A

:02:11. > :02:22.final decision on the unit's future will be made next month.

:02:23. > :02:25.Three men arrested following the death of a man in Peterborotgh have

:02:26. > :02:28.been released on police bail. Officers were called to a flat in

:02:29. > :02:31.Millfield on Thursday and p`rt of Lincoln Road was sealed off. But a

:02:32. > :02:37.postmortem on the man has proved inconclusive.

:02:38. > :02:39.Six men have been charged whth a telephone scam fraud. In thd last

:02:40. > :02:41.year, hundreds of people in Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and

:02:42. > :02:51.Norfolk have been tricked into parting with cash or bank ddtails.

:02:52. > :02:54.The men are due in court next week. Campaigners have been given six

:02:55. > :02:57.months to save an historic barn near Cambridge. The tithe barn at

:02:58. > :02:59.Landbeach is owned by the Dhstrict Council which wants to dispose of

:03:00. > :03:03.it. The Tudor building needs 10 thousand pounds spending on it.

:03:04. > :03:08.The community need to come together to work out a plan, what we can use

:03:09. > :03:11.the barn for. We don't want it to be redeveloped as a dwelling, we feel

:03:12. > :03:14.it is such a fantastic commtnity building. I believe that we can

:03:15. > :03:23.still use it for fantastic community events for Landbeach and thd

:03:24. > :03:25.surrounding area. In Football, Norwich City h`ve

:03:26. > :03:28.fallen back into the Premier League relegation zone after today's win

:03:29. > :03:31.for Sunderland over Cardiff. Six of our clubs were involved in promotion

:03:32. > :03:34.or relegation battles this weekend, as Shaun Peel reports.

:03:35. > :03:37.Spoiling a loving for a legdnd at Old Trafford was always going to be

:03:38. > :03:40.a big ask for Norwich. The script was written for Ryan Giggs `s

:03:41. > :03:44.Manchester United won it 4`0, with two apiece for Wayne Rooney and Juan

:03:45. > :03:48.Mata. For Norwich, can they survive? They

:03:49. > :03:52.need to take points from Chdlsea, Arsenal or both. The manager said

:03:53. > :03:57.that we should have done better today, but we should not be`t

:03:58. > :04:00.ourselves up. Ipswich Town's flickering hopes of a

:04:01. > :04:07.play`off place were snuffed out at Burnley. Time needed to win it,

:04:08. > :04:09.really, but they lost 1`0. So close, but disappointment for the blues and

:04:10. > :04:13.the manager Mick McCarthy, who can now start planning for next's

:04:14. > :04:15.season. Peterborough United are planning to

:04:16. > :04:21.join them in the championshhp next season, after backing a place. There

:04:22. > :04:26.was a 4`2 win to Shrewsbury, relegating the home side.

:04:27. > :04:33.Colchester United all but sdaled their survival with a 4`1 whn. They

:04:34. > :04:36.have a three`point cushion `nd a six`point goal difference against

:04:37. > :04:43.Tranmere, so only a bonkers set of results next week and could

:04:44. > :04:50.embarrass them. Anything can happen in football, they say, but this is

:04:51. > :04:53.not going to. Southend planted their flag in the

:04:54. > :04:56.league to the play`offs, whdn they got the point that they needed. And,

:04:57. > :05:00.at the other end, incredibld, Northampton won 3`0 at Dagenham to

:05:01. > :05:05.go out of the drop zone for the first time in three months. Talk

:05:06. > :05:08.about the nick of time. Survival in the Football Le`gue is

:05:09. > :05:18.that the taking, they just need a point to make sure they are home to

:05:19. > :05:20.Oxford next weekend. And so to the weather, with Wendy

:05:21. > :05:32.Hurrell. Most of us have escaped the worst of

:05:33. > :05:37.the showers today, and if there are some this evening, it will be mostly

:05:38. > :05:43.dry overnight. It is a roundabout seven degrees. The cloud will break

:05:44. > :05:50.up as it goes through the morning, as the day warms up, up to 04

:05:51. > :05:58.degrees, there could be somd showers. They could be thundery if

:05:59. > :06:01.you do encounter one. Still the risk of showers on Tuesday and Wddnesday,

:06:02. > :06:09.getting colder as the week goes on. That's it

:06:10. > :06:15.Good evening. After an unsettled weekend, the same culprit will be

:06:16. > :06:20.staying with us through the early part of the new week. No pressure is

:06:21. > :06:24.set to continue producing a fair number of showers across England and

:06:25. > :06:29.Wales. Still some hefty ones to come through this evening, particularly

:06:30. > :06:34.across the Midlands, South Wales and south-west England. Rain will spread

:06:35. > :06:41.from the south-west of Scotland into Northern Ireland by dawn. A mild

:06:42. > :06:50.enough night. Monday, after a gloomy start for many of us, the cloud and

:06:51. > :06:56.Risley rain across Northern Ireland. A reasonably dry start

:06:57. > :06:58.across England and Wales but come the
