:00:14. > :00:15.First tonight, two months ahead of the vote

:00:16. > :00:17.on Scottish independence, people living in the town dubbed Lhttle

:00:18. > :00:23.Scotland have voted overwhelmingly to keep the UK intact.

:00:24. > :00:26.A referendum has been held today in Corby, the Northamptonshhre town

:00:27. > :00:32.People there had campaigned to be given a real vote,

:00:33. > :00:34.and in the last hour the result of their own poll was announced

:00:35. > :00:38.It is the Highland gathering, first staged in the 1960s

:00:39. > :00:43.to celebrate the townspeople's Scottish heritage.

:00:44. > :00:45.It's been estimated well over half of Corby's population are

:00:46. > :00:53.But they won't be able to take part in the real referendum themselves.

:00:54. > :00:57.I think the Scottish people, if you were born in Scotland, there is an

:00:58. > :01:00.argument they should get the vote because it will have the be`ring on

:01:01. > :01:02.whether in two years time, hf they go to Scotland, whether they need ID

:01:03. > :01:08.It could change everything about what they do to go

:01:09. > :01:10.and see their mums, their dads, their aunties.

:01:11. > :01:12.It wasn't supposed to be serious but the Labour Party's

:01:13. > :01:15.top spokeswoman on Scotland turned up,

:01:16. > :01:22.I accept people don't have ` vote here, but they have a voice,

:01:23. > :01:26.and in Scotland we are taken by the fact that people across Britain

:01:27. > :01:29.are taking such an interest in the referendum, that they care about the

:01:30. > :01:33.outcome of that, they actually don't want Scotland, by and large,

:01:34. > :01:37.to leave the rest of Britain. That we all get benefit out of it.

:01:38. > :01:39.And I think that's actually quite important to the Scots that

:01:40. > :01:44.This has been a Scottish enclave since thd 30s

:01:45. > :01:48.when workers from the Clyde came South to the Corby steel pl`nts

:01:49. > :01:51.That's four generations of Scottish heritage.

:01:52. > :01:54.I vote we should stay as one country, I am for thd union.

:01:55. > :01:55.I think Scotland should be independent.

:01:56. > :02:03.My mother was worn in Aberdeen, my father is English, so I am British.

:02:04. > :02:08.In the end, 576 people cast their vote and the result was very clear.

:02:09. > :02:24.The result may be a comfort to the no campaign

:02:25. > :02:28.but there's no guarantee the verdict of Corby expats will be reflected in

:02:29. > :02:38.Two months is a very long time in politics.

:02:39. > :02:42.The BBC has learned that 23 officers and civilian staff with Suffolk

:02:43. > :02:44.police have quit or been sacked in the last two years because

:02:45. > :02:49.Figures released under the Freedom of Information Act reveal that

:02:50. > :02:52.officers have been accused of theft, sexual assault and breaches

:02:53. > :03:01.There's also been a 46% rise in complaints from the publhc.

:03:02. > :03:04.Next, the questions hanging over the future of a small Suffolk sdaport.

:03:05. > :03:09.Campaigners say the harbour at Southwold is being neglected

:03:10. > :03:12.They believe that, legally, the town should own the harbour

:03:13. > :03:17.But the town council says it doesn't want the responsibility.

:03:18. > :03:22.As picture perfect as it can seem, Southwold harbour needs invdstment.

:03:23. > :03:26.One side of the harbour wall is dilapidated.

:03:27. > :03:29.The caravan park needs updating. Som claim the loc`l

:03:30. > :03:32.District Council, Waveney, hs taking rents on this

:03:33. > :03:40.The caravan site has, for many years, been treated as a cash cow.

:03:41. > :03:44.I appreciate they have to fhnd funds to run their services,

:03:45. > :03:47.but they also have to keep the harbour in good repair.

:03:48. > :03:50.Some claim the District Council shouldn't own the land at all.

:03:51. > :03:53.When local government was reformed in the 70s, they say it shotld have

:03:54. > :04:01.Andrew has worked for years to get it back into local control.

:04:02. > :04:06.We need to preserve assets such as this which underpins the tourist

:04:07. > :04:10.industry, the fishing industry, and the very essence of the Coast

:04:11. > :04:14.of Suffolk which is such a draw to millions of people every year.

:04:15. > :04:16.Waveney District Council adlits that it relies on the income from

:04:17. > :04:25.But Southwold Town Council say they can't afford the liability of taking

:04:26. > :04:28.on the ownership or the legal costs that could come with it.

:04:29. > :04:31.There is boat`building, there is fisherman there, and

:04:32. > :04:35.if there was to be an acciddnt, it could possibly cost the town council

:04:36. > :04:53.A six`week consultation on the future

:04:54. > :04:58.The one thing that wasn't up for discussion, though, is

:04:59. > :05:08.Well, we've had sharp showers and even hailstones today.

:05:09. > :05:09.What else is in store? Here's Georgina Burnett.

:05:10. > :05:13.We have hopefully seen the back of those showers

:05:14. > :05:18.David Leadbetter took this picture of where two houses caught

:05:19. > :05:24.And the sky over area Saint Edmunds was said certainly picturespue

:05:25. > :05:30.So, tonight, we're looking at a much fresher night.

:05:31. > :05:32.It will be largely cloudy, but temperatures down to

:05:33. > :05:35.about 12 Celsius, so certainly more comfortable.

:05:36. > :05:39.And a fine day to come tomorrow Plenty of sunny spells around.

:05:40. > :05:43.As we head into the afternoon, a bit more in the way of cloud,

:05:44. > :05:45.but it should still be quitd a nice end to the day with

:05:46. > :05:48.a south`westerly breeze developing to not

:05:49. > :05:51.Tuesday, patchy rain returns, and Wednesday,

:05:52. > :05:55.probably some more showers as well, but those temperatures rise as we
