:00:19. > :00:27.The UKIP leader was addresshng voters ahead of the Clacton

:00:28. > :00:30.by`election which will take place in two weeks' time.

:00:31. > :00:32.The election has been prompted by the defection of Conserv`tive MP

:00:33. > :00:35.for Clacton Douglas Carswell to the UK Independence Party.

:00:36. > :00:37.Our political correspondent Andrew Sinclair was at tonight's

:00:38. > :00:51.Public political meetings where anybody can turn up and listen to a

:00:52. > :00:59.big`name speaker RF things today because the main parties prdfer to

:01:00. > :01:04.screen their audiences. `` `re rare things. Nigel Farage is the only

:01:05. > :01:09.leader to visit Clacton so far so the meeting was significant and more

:01:10. > :01:15.than 700 people turned up, Hnc fact at one point there was a tr`ffic jam

:01:16. > :01:21.outside. Most of them are not UKIP members but UKIP are saying this is

:01:22. > :01:26.the biggest public meeting dver held in Clacton. Nigel Farage got a

:01:27. > :01:32.standing ovation when he arrived, he attacked the career politic`l

:01:33. > :01:36.class, he questioned global warming and attacked the government over

:01:37. > :01:38.immigration and of course hd attacked the European Union.

:01:39. > :01:41.We want a free Europe of democratic sovereign states that

:01:42. > :01:43.trade with each other and don't fight each other.

:01:44. > :01:47.But above all we love our own country, I'm not ashamed to

:01:48. > :01:50.say it, and the only people that should govern Britain are

:01:51. > :02:03.He went on to say that, `` that Clacton will be the next wave in the

:02:04. > :02:06.political earthquake they intend to cause. Interesting to see the issues

:02:07. > :02:13.people were talking about, immigration came up a lot, the

:02:14. > :02:16.impact it is having on the local community, questions about GP

:02:17. > :02:21.shortages, house`building, `nd a very loud cheer when somebody asked

:02:22. > :02:30.about switching off streetlhghts in Essex. They asked about `` the

:02:31. > :02:36.mother of a teenager who was stabbed at a house party asked about knife

:02:37. > :02:40.crime. It was interesting to hear Mr Carswell criticising his former

:02:41. > :02:45.party. He said the concerns in Clacton are a microcosm of what the

:02:46. > :02:46.country has got wrong `` thd Conservative Party have got wrong

:02:47. > :02:49.across the country. And for a full list of all the other

:02:50. > :02:52.candidates standing in the Clacton by`election you can go to the BBC

:02:53. > :02:54.Essex website. The police

:02:55. > :02:56.in Essex are under investig`tion again for the way they've h`ndled

:02:57. > :02:58.a case of domestic abuse. The Independent Police Complaints

:02:59. > :03:00.Commission is looking at why the force took

:03:01. > :03:03.a month to arrest a man who was Essex Police were heavily criticised

:03:04. > :03:07.following four domestic murders that But in June last year the force was

:03:08. > :03:18.praised for making improvemdnts 80 emergency calls are made to Essex

:03:19. > :03:21.Police every day reporting And the force currently has a list

:03:22. > :03:25.of 130 perpetrators in the county How Essex Police responds to

:03:26. > :03:32.domestic violence It has emerged the Independdnt

:03:33. > :03:38.Police Complaints Commission is looking into a

:03:39. > :03:42.complaint from a woman in Southend. Despite

:03:43. > :03:44.a court restraining order b`nning contact, a man had messaged her on

:03:45. > :03:49.social media and visited her house. But he was only arrested

:03:50. > :03:51.a month later It is looking into any delax in

:03:52. > :04:02.arresting the man for any breach. It is also looking into whether

:04:03. > :04:07.a risk assessment was carridd out. Although it remains to be sden

:04:08. > :04:10.whether the latest report fhnds any failings, the IPCC has crithcised

:04:11. > :04:14.Essex Police in the past. It said the force ignored w`rnings

:04:15. > :04:17.that these three women, Marha Stubbings, Christine Chambers and

:04:18. > :04:21.Jeanette Goodwin, were in d`nger. All three, and Christine Ch`mbers'

:04:22. > :04:26.daughter, were murdered. Improving the force's response to

:04:27. > :04:31.domestic violence is now a personal priority of the

:04:32. > :04:34.Chief Constable, Stephen Kavanagh. The county's Police and

:04:35. > :04:36.Crime Commissioner says it hs The police have introduced

:04:37. > :04:40.a specific operation to target Essex Police have made extensive use

:04:41. > :04:47.of the protection notices They are at the cutting edgd of new

:04:48. > :04:52.approaches but we are on a journey. There will be failures and we need

:04:53. > :04:58.to look and learn from everx one. It is likely to be several lonths

:04:59. > :05:02.before Over the past 24 hours police

:05:03. > :05:09.in Thailand have shifted from expressing confidence `n arrest

:05:10. > :05:12.will soon be made in the murder of Norfolk student Hannah Whtheridge

:05:13. > :05:15.to confusion over whether they are Meanwhile her university

:05:16. > :05:20.friends have told Look East they have little faith that anyone

:05:21. > :05:23.will be brought to justice. This week Hannah would have been

:05:24. > :05:26.starting the second year of a master's degree at the

:05:27. > :05:30.University of Essex in Colchester. It's just...time is the ulthmate

:05:31. > :05:38.healer, I think. I hope the family can find peace

:05:39. > :05:41.as well as her many friends. I don't have much faith that

:05:42. > :05:49.they will catch who did it. I think this will really sptr us

:05:50. > :05:53.on to get through the year, to do the best we can do, do it

:05:54. > :05:56.for Hannah, and be there for her Detectives investigating

:05:57. > :06:00.the murder of James Attfield in Colchester have arrested

:06:01. > :06:02.a 19`year`old man this afternoon. He is being questioned

:06:03. > :06:04.on suspicion of murder. James Attfield was found with more

:06:05. > :06:07.than 100 knife wounds near So far ten people

:06:08. > :06:11.have been arrested. The ferry route linking Essdx with

:06:12. > :06:13.Denmark will end this weekend DFDS Seaways says it's scrapping the

:06:14. > :06:18.service between Harwich and Esbjerg Over the years passenger nulbers

:06:19. > :06:23.have fallen, and the ferry's found it difficult

:06:24. > :06:40.to compete with budget airlhnes If you have a story you think we

:06:41. > :06:47.should be covering, you can get in contact with us.

:06:48. > :06:54.It is going to be a chilly night tonight. In towns and cities we

:06:55. > :06:59.could get values as low as six Celsius and we could take off a

:07:00. > :07:04.couple of degrees from that in the countryside. If you are at darly you

:07:05. > :07:09.should see some brightness `nd sunshine but quickly it will turn

:07:10. > :07:16.cloudy and the thickest clotd could produce some light rain or drizzle

:07:17. > :07:22.but mainly the forecast is ` dry one and it will gradually get a bit

:07:23. > :07:31.warmer. Temperatures could be up to 18 or 19 degrees. In a moment the

:07:32. > :07:31.national weather, but here hs the outlook. Fairly

:07:32. > :07:46.Good evening. Many of us had some welcome rain for the gardens

:07:47. > :07:49.overnight. But away from the north-west, rain doesn't feature

:07:50. > :07:56.heavily in the forecast for the next few days. We did have some good

:07:57. > :07:57.sunshine. These were captured by Ted Williams. This
