:00:46. > :00:52.shock and then it just felt great, like ten Christmases had just come

:00:53. > :00:58.at once! As an able Seaman, Edward Slater

:01:45. > :01:48.going strong. Her effort rewarded with the British Empire Medal.

:01:49. > :01:51.I was just an ordinary person and I got this wonderful award and I just

:01:52. > :01:54.still cannot believe it. From chief executives to charity

:01:55. > :01:57.workers, more than 100 people from the East were named in today's New

:01:58. > :02:07.Year's Honours List, recognition of their service to their communities

:02:08. > :02:10.and the nation. A woman from Cambridge has been left

:02:11. > :02:13.seriously injured after being attacked by a stag in the highlands

:02:14. > :02:15.of Scotland. Kate Stone was airlifted to the Southern General

:02:16. > :02:19.Hospital in Glasgow. She's understood to be in intensive care.

:02:20. > :02:23.The incident happened in a village near Fort William in the early hours

:02:24. > :02:26.of yesterday morning. Members of the Fire Brigades' Union

:02:27. > :02:29.began their latest walk`out 15 minutes ago. The latest strike runs

:02:30. > :02:32.from 6.30pm until half past midnight. In Essex those who take

:02:33. > :02:38.part have been told they won't be paid for the rest of the shift.

:02:39. > :02:41.Thousands of tonnes of sand is finally being cleared from the

:02:42. > :02:44.seafront at Felixstowe ` more than three weeks after a massive tidal

:02:45. > :02:47.surge hit the East Coast. The clean`up operation started almost

:02:48. > :02:56.immediately, but work has been hampered by a new wave of storms.

:02:57. > :02:59.Unlike other parts of our coastline, the title source left

:03:00. > :03:07.thousands of pounds of sand on Felixstowe promenade, and is in the

:03:08. > :03:11.process of being cleaned up. Is a problem we did not have on

:03:12. > :03:19.Felixstowe before, prior to the sea defence work that was put in place,

:03:20. > :03:27.we had a prayer. `` we had a predominantly single beach.

:03:28. > :03:36.This is either promenade looked afterwards. The plants and seating

:03:37. > :03:39.have also been covered. The clean`up operation has been constantly

:03:40. > :03:45.hampered by the Guild force winds, blowing the sands back on the

:03:46. > :03:52.promenade. We are trying to make the access to

:03:53. > :04:02.the promenade safer. When there are projected high tides and severe

:04:03. > :04:10.winds, we will carry on. They will discuss moving the sands

:04:11. > :04:14.next week. A couple from Norfolk who went

:04:15. > :04:17.without food in order to pay for Christmas are warning others about

:04:18. > :04:20.the dangers of falling into debt. Donna and John Smith turned to the

:04:21. > :04:24.charity 'Christians Against Poverty' for help. Two years ago, this

:04:25. > :04:30.couple's lives were consumed by debt. When he lost his job, they

:04:31. > :04:33.turned to credit cards for money. They found themselves ?45,000 in

:04:34. > :04:40.debt and had to file for bankruptcy, not helped by the stress

:04:41. > :04:43.of paying for Christmas. You feel obligated to buy your children and

:04:44. > :04:50.relatives and everybody something nice, but she cannot afford. It is a

:04:51. > :04:58.big worry. We have gone without a couple of meals to try to get some

:04:59. > :05:04.money together. The couple turned to this charity

:05:05. > :05:07.for financial advice and assistance. The charity says that its client in

:05:08. > :05:15.the east are nearly ?12,000 in the East on average. The majority of

:05:16. > :05:22.money owed on credit cards and loans, all things that mount up at

:05:23. > :05:25.this time of year. This is generally our busiest time

:05:26. > :05:28.of year because people do not want to think about it, they want to

:05:29. > :05:35.provide an ace Christmas for their family, particularly if they have

:05:36. > :05:39.children. They may use credit cards or other short`term borrowing to

:05:40. > :05:50.provide Christmas. The couple are now managing their

:05:51. > :06:00.money and get free `` get free debt free.

:06:01. > :06:09.It is looking promising that you will welcome in the New Year under a

:06:10. > :06:16.clear sky. The cloud has still not quite cleared from the eastern half

:06:17. > :06:20.of the region. It should soon be out into the North Sea, leaving us with

:06:21. > :06:27.a largely dry night. Some patchy cloud, with the chance of showers,

:06:28. > :06:32.but they might just get into the Western Power so for most of us it

:06:33. > :06:41.will probably be dry at midnight. Relatively mild until midnight, but

:06:42. > :06:45.temperatures will drop after that. Perhaps a touch of ground frost in

:06:46. > :06:50.places. Some further showers after midnight across the region. Then it

:06:51. > :07:03.looks like a dry start to New Year's Day. Not for long. A wet and windy

:07:04. > :07:07.day to come for New Year's Day. Mild array will raise temperatures, but

:07:08. > :07:14.the rain and cloud and the strength of the wind will not make it feel

:07:15. > :07:24.great. This will be a very persistent and heavy spell offering.

:07:25. > :07:26.Thank you very much that is all from us this evening. Happy New Year.

:07:27. > :07:32.Goodbye. us this evening. Happy New Year.

:07:33. > :07:44.team, have a happy New Year. Good evening. It looks like mother

:07:45. > :07:48.nature may provide her own pyrotechnics in the run-up to bid

:07:49. > :07:52.night tonight. We have some heavy showers in western parts, starting

:07:53. > :07:58.to ease a bit across Scotland and Northern Ireland. But the showers

:07:59. > :08:02.further south are heavier, with some flashes of lightning as they move

:08:03. > :08:06.eastwards. They do get a bit more hit and miss as we head towards

:08:07. > :08:12.midnight, but a greater chance of getting wet in the south as we move

:08:13. > :08:16.into 2014. Cardiff and London could see heavy downpours. Further north,

:08:17. > :08:24.you could be greeting the New Year on a dry note. A touch of frost in

:08:25. > :08:26.northern and eastern areas going into New Year's Day. A few
