:00:00. > 3:59:59reputation enhanced. That's it. Starting on BBC Two now,

:00:00. > :00:11.Jeremy Hello, I'm Susie Fowler Watt.

:00:12. > :00:15.Police have been describing how they had to put their car in the path of

:00:16. > :00:18.an elderly woman driver who was travelling the wrong way in the

:00:19. > :00:22.outside lane of a dual carriageway. She came off the M11 heading north

:00:23. > :00:25.on the A11, then took an exit but somehow managed to rejoin the A11,

:00:26. > :00:31.driving north now on the southbound carriageway. Police set up a road

:00:32. > :00:36.block to stop her on the A14 at Newmarket. Our reporter Nikki Fox is

:00:37. > :00:41.there now. Sunday afternoon on the A14 near

:00:42. > :00:47.`` this is where the main route is going in and out of East Anglia so

:00:48. > :00:52.you can imagine how busy this was when this incident happened. A

:00:53. > :00:54.number of people have described on social media websites how terrifying

:00:55. > :01:00.it was to see this car coming towards them in the wrong direction

:01:01. > :01:03.at 50 mph. As Simon reports, the driver may not have even stopped,

:01:04. > :01:07.had it not been for the bravery of officers.

:01:08. > :01:10.Sunday afternoon on the A14 near Cambridge, Tom and his father drive

:01:11. > :01:14.east. Just across the barrier, they spot an elderly lady doing the same.

:01:15. > :01:17.The only problem? She is on the wrong carriageway, heading straight

:01:18. > :01:19.towards oncoming vehicles. Tom filmed this footage from the

:01:20. > :01:24.passenger seat. Cambridgeshire Police were flooded with 999 calls.

:01:25. > :01:28.PCs Ian Manly and Chris Thompson were scrambled to try and stop the

:01:29. > :01:33.woman before she or anyone else was seriously hurt. We turned around,

:01:34. > :01:36.heading towards her, managed to slow down all the traffic headed towards

:01:37. > :01:42.her so that they were safe, protected behind us. And then we

:01:43. > :01:46.caused her to stop on the A14. This is the actual police footage of what

:01:47. > :01:50.happened next. With the road clear and a rolling road block in place,

:01:51. > :01:55.Ian and Chris put their own car in the path of the oncoming vehicle. It

:01:56. > :01:58.was a fairly nervous time, if I am honest. We were potentially going to

:01:59. > :02:02.deliberately crash into her to bring her to a stop. Fortunately, she

:02:03. > :02:08.stopped before colliding with our vehicle and then she was about 30

:02:09. > :02:11.centimetres from us. The woman, 81 from Essex, told officers she had

:02:12. > :02:16.tried to get off the road several times without success. Police say

:02:17. > :02:20.she was suffering from mental health problems and was later returned

:02:21. > :02:26.safely home. She will not be prosecuted.

:02:27. > :02:36.Two men have been `` this is not the first time this

:02:37. > :02:40.has happened. Back in 2009, five people were killed when a Polish

:02:41. > :02:45.driver travelled the wrong way down the M1. Last year, a pensioner lost

:02:46. > :02:51.her life after travelling the wrong way down the A1. Although police say

:02:52. > :02:55.this driver will not be prosecuted, her license may be revoked.

:02:56. > :03:01.Two men have been found guilty of helping a serial killer. Joanna

:03:02. > :03:05.Dennehy herself has already admitted to murdering and then dumping the

:03:06. > :03:07.bodies of three men in ditches near Peterborough last year. She's also

:03:08. > :03:09.admitted two counts of attempted murder. Neil Bradford reports from

:03:10. > :03:13.Cambridge Crown Court. In the dock, Gary Stretch appeared

:03:14. > :03:16.to nod as the jury foreman delivered each of the guilty verdicts. The

:03:17. > :03:18.47`year`old, who stands at 7'3'' tall was an accomplice to

:03:19. > :03:21.Peterborough serial killer Joanna Dennehy. She admitted killing three

:03:22. > :03:27.men last March and burying their bodies in ditches near the city. She

:03:28. > :03:31.also admitted trying to kill two men in Hereford while on the run from

:03:32. > :03:34.police. Today, Stretch was found guilty of one of those attempted

:03:35. > :03:39.murders, a frenzied and unprovoked knife attack on John Rogers. He was

:03:40. > :03:43.also convicted of helping Dennehy dispose of the bodies of each of the

:03:44. > :03:46.murder victims. His co`defendant in this case, 36`year`old Leslie

:03:47. > :03:51.Layton, also from Peterborough, was found guilty of perverting the

:03:52. > :03:54.course of justice. The jury of eight women and four men are still

:03:55. > :03:57.undecided on a number of charges against them. They are still

:03:58. > :04:00.deliberating on a further attempted murder charge against Gary Stretch

:04:01. > :04:06.and two counts of preventing the lawful and decent burial of a body

:04:07. > :04:14.against Leslie Layton. They will continue their deliberations here at

:04:15. > :04:18.Cambridge Crown Court tomorrow. Talks have been taking place today

:04:19. > :04:22.in an attempt to save 900 jobs in Corby. Solway Foods is one of the

:04:23. > :04:25.town's biggest employers and runs a large factory supplying chilled

:04:26. > :04:28.foods. The company says it may have to close the site as it isn't fit

:04:29. > :04:31.for purpose. Essex County Council is releasing ?1

:04:32. > :04:35.million of emergency funding to tackle road flooding. It says the

:04:36. > :04:38.county has suffered its longest period of wet weather for many

:04:39. > :04:42.years. It plans to identify the 60 worst flooding points by the end of

:04:43. > :04:45.the week so action can be taken to clear culverts, empty gullies and

:04:46. > :04:50.remove debris. Another of our long standing MPs is

:04:51. > :04:52.facing questions about his future. The Conservative Association in

:04:53. > :04:55.Saffron Walden will decide on Thursday if Sir Alan Haselhurst will

:04:56. > :05:00.be their candidate at the next election. By then he will be 77 and

:05:01. > :05:03.facing his tenth election. For the last 36 years, Sir Alan

:05:04. > :05:06.Hasselhurst has represented Saffron Walden, being returned as its MP

:05:07. > :05:11.with ever`increasing majorities. A new runway! Unlike his colleague Tim

:05:12. > :05:16.Yeo, nobody is complaining about him being a bad local MP. He has played

:05:17. > :05:19.a leading role in the campaign against the second runway at

:05:20. > :05:22.Stansted and is currently fighting for improvements to the West Anglian

:05:23. > :05:27.rail line. This is about his age. Has he become too old to serve his

:05:28. > :05:31.constituents? Age has got nothing to do with it. You know, if he is good

:05:32. > :05:35.enough then he is good enough for the job. My husband retired at 60

:05:36. > :05:39.and I think that's, you know, I don't... We need a younger person,

:05:40. > :05:43.don't we? No`one in the party is speaking publicly about this but I

:05:44. > :05:45.understand that one or two people in the local association are

:05:46. > :05:49.questioning whether at the age of 76, it is time for him to retire. He

:05:50. > :06:08.has told his local newspaper... The age of MPs has become a bit of

:06:09. > :06:13.an issue at Westminster. The 2010 intake brought in a large number of

:06:14. > :06:17.young members. The culture of youth is what it's all about but no, it is

:06:18. > :06:20.not what it's all about. In China, for example, I would be young,

:06:21. > :06:25.wouldn't I? Their leaders are much older. You need the balance. Sir

:06:26. > :06:29.Alan is telling friends he hopes his party will back him on Thursday. He

:06:30. > :06:37.still believes he has a lot to offer.

:06:38. > :06:43.That's all from me. Let's have a look at the weather.

:06:44. > :06:48.Once the last of the showers have cleared the corner, we are left with

:06:49. > :06:52.a largely dry night. Some frost and ice as temperatures fall close to

:06:53. > :06:56.freezing. Tomorrow morning, some short lived brightness in the East

:06:57. > :07:01.but thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain marching eastwards. This we

:07:02. > :07:04.will be heavy at times, accompanied by fresh southerly winds, touching

:07:05. > :07:09.gale`force around the course. But to be, the rain should have gone.

:07:10. > :07:15.Reuters skies following in. The bright afternoon. `` brighter skies.

:07:16. > :07:20.Eventually dragging in some showers, which could turn wintry. During

:07:21. > :07:25.tomorrow evening and tomorrow night, the chance of some snow in

:07:26. > :07:28.places. Perhaps even a couple of centimetres. In a moment, the weasel

:07:29. > :07:37.have the National forecast but I leave you

:07:38. > :07:45.Good evening. You have my permission to complain about too many repeats

:07:46. > :07:49.with the British weather at the moment because yet again it looks as

:07:50. > :07:54.though our winter weather is set to continue with a repeat of last week.

:07:55. > :07:58.Sunny spells and scattered showers today and this is the next area of

:07:59. > :08:06.low pressure pushing in from the west. It influences our weather for

:08:07. > :08:14.the rest of the week. More rain to come and gales and severe gales to

:08:15. > :08:22.come. Ice is a possible risk. That means a cumulative total perhaps or

:08:23. > :08:26.40-70 millimetres and that is an extra two to three inches. It will

:08:27. > :08:31.exacerbate the flooding we have already got across England at the

:08:32. > :08:37.moment. The cloud, wind and rain is already pushing in from the west.

:08:38. > :08:42.There will be a widespread frost. Ice could be a problem first thing

:08:43. > :08:47.in Northern Ireland. Snow in the hills and maybe in the North East of

:08:48. > :08:53.Scotland we could see snow at lower levels. Rain through northern

:08:54. > :08:59.England and Wales and Somerset. Some of that rain could be quite intense

:09:00. > :09:03.coupled with squally, gusty winds on exposed coasts. In the east it

:09:04. > :09:10.starts off relatively dry, but it will not be long before the wind and

:09:11. > :09:15.the rain spreads further east. Up into the North the snow showers

:09:16. > :09:20.continue on the hills, but by the end of the afternoon we could see

:09:21. > :09:26.wet snow even at lower levels. A cold day. There is a potential for

:09:27. > :09:31.some snow showers at lower levels across England and Wales on Tuesday

:09:32. > :09:35.night and into Wednesday. On Wednesday it is this area of low

:09:36. > :09:41.pressure which is the main factor in Wednesday's weather. More wet and

:09:42. > :09:46.windy weather. An early amber warning has already been issued from

:09:47. > :09:51.the South West. Severe gales are likely as we continue to see some

:09:52. > :09:56.very wet weather coming into central and southern areas. The strongest

:09:57. > :09:58.winds follow in behind those showers. In Scotland you are

:09:59. > :10:57.probably wondering what the Come on inside, as BBC Four

:10:58. > :10:58.takes a look at Life Inside Out
