:00:00. > :00:15.Good evening. First tonight, the papers on the BBC

:00:16. > :00:19.Good evening. First tonight, preparations in Cambridge are

:00:20. > :00:21.underway for the Tour de Fr`nce Today the head of the world's

:00:22. > :00:26.biggest cycle race, Christi`n Prudhomme visited the city. It's the

:00:27. > :00:29.third stage of the race starting on the seventh July and is thotght to

:00:30. > :00:32.bring tens of millions of pounds to the local economy. 200 of the

:00:33. > :00:36.world's top cyclists will travel from Cambridgeshire into Essex and

:00:37. > :00:42.then onto London. Mike Cartwright reports.

:00:43. > :00:48.Like its starting line, the race will be burned into the memory of

:00:49. > :00:51.this region. The eyes of thd world watching our part of the world,

:00:52. > :01:12.chosen by him, Christian Prtdhomme hosting a sporting spectacld. . It

:01:13. > :01:16.is important to have Cambridge as a city of cycling. It seems a long

:01:17. > :01:19.time ago that we were able to announce that the tour was coming

:01:20. > :01:23.here. From October last year, we discovered the route it was going to

:01:24. > :01:29.take. We have a mark on the spot where it will start. This is the

:01:30. > :01:32.last of three stages. 100 mhles and around three hours racing and

:01:33. > :01:37.winding its way through Essdx, into Chelmsford, past Harlow and

:01:38. > :01:43.finishing in London. Cycling superstars flying through this

:01:44. > :01:51.village. They have noticed before the tour arrives, something else has

:01:52. > :01:54.gone. There has been the talk of potholes in this race but they have

:01:55. > :01:58.closed the village and they have resurfaced the road. Up the hill

:01:59. > :02:03.here, there are a few more holes that need filling. The roads are

:02:04. > :02:08.looking absolutely beautiful and it really is going to be a showpiece

:02:09. > :02:14.for the country. We are verx proud. This is known as the prettidst

:02:15. > :02:17.village in the whole of Essdx. It is right that it should come through

:02:18. > :02:23.it. It is right that it shotld come through. Fireworks celebratdd the

:02:24. > :02:27.Tour de France's coming. He`vily promoted up north and some `re

:02:28. > :02:32.asking why the same has not been done down south. We will sed

:02:33. > :02:35.coverage on the route but also areas not on the key route which will be

:02:36. > :02:39.frequented by visitors to the city. It is as much about telling people

:02:40. > :02:48.it is coming as well as celdbrating and welcoming it.In July, they will

:02:49. > :02:54.line up. The biggest bike r`ce on the planet right here in our region.

:02:55. > :03:01.Next ` investment in our ro`ds and railways. First ` a new report on

:03:02. > :03:04.plans to re`open the eight lile stretch of railway to passengers in

:03:05. > :03:07.Wisbech. Tonight the Ministdr of State, Greg Clarke, describdd the

:03:08. > :03:10.line as an attractive proposal and agreed to discuss financing a

:03:11. > :03:15.further detailed study with the Government. The line would link

:03:16. > :03:19.Wisbech and March through to Ely and onto Cambridge to boost economic

:03:20. > :03:25.growth. Waseem Mirza has bedn looking at the report.

:03:26. > :03:27.Katherine, the report was commissioned by both Cambridgeshire

:03:28. > :03:30.County Council and Fenland District Council. It looks at the financial

:03:31. > :03:34.viability of re`opening the disused line at Wisbech and the bendfits of

:03:35. > :03:38.opening a new station there. It s been closed to passengers for the

:03:39. > :03:41.last 30 years but the track still exists. The idea, investment in

:03:42. > :03:46.rail, to help unlock economhc growth. The report suggests that

:03:47. > :03:51.re`opening the line would cost between ?50 and ?75 million. But

:03:52. > :03:54.according to the councils that investment would generate a three

:03:55. > :04:00.fold return of up to ?81 million, benefiting the whole of the Fenland

:04:01. > :04:04.area. Now ` with better transport links comes easier access to the

:04:05. > :04:07.city and the jobs it generates. If the line was reconnected to the Ely

:04:08. > :04:12.Peterborough track, Cambridge could be reached in just 40 minutds. And

:04:13. > :04:17.with a faster commute from Wisbech, the Fenland areas could become an

:04:18. > :04:22.attractive place to live. In Cambridge, the average housd price

:04:23. > :04:29.is almost ?360,000. Compare that to the area around Wisbech just under

:04:30. > :04:32.?140,000. This independent report is just the beginning of the journey to

:04:33. > :04:44.get this disused line up and running again. But according to the local

:04:45. > :04:48.MP, the campaign is gathering pace. The key is keeping the momentum and

:04:49. > :04:53.getting an Rail study. We h`ve to look at the number of level

:04:54. > :04:59.crossings that we need. `` Network Rail started. We have to look at

:05:00. > :05:03.engineering work in the fans. We have to look at that in det`il.

:05:04. > :05:07.Campaigners for the line ard now looking to the Government for help.

:05:08. > :05:11.They want ?250,000 to carry out a further study looking at kex options

:05:12. > :05:14.for the development ` which local councils say is vital for the

:05:15. > :05:18.economic growth of not only Wisbech but Fenland too.

:05:19. > :05:26.More now on a new ?10 million link road which opened today in

:05:27. > :05:29.Huntingdon. The route is only half a kilometre long but it bypasses the

:05:30. > :05:31.town's ring road linking thd north of Huntingdon directly with

:05:32. > :05:42.Hinchingbrooke hospital and the railway station. It is a tiny

:05:43. > :05:46.stretch of road but it will have a huge impact. Motorists wanthng to

:05:47. > :05:53.cross the town no longer have to drive all around the ring road. It

:05:54. > :05:59.is a good short cut. There hs a lot of queues at the moment. Dignitaries

:06:00. > :06:03.gathered to open the road and within minutes, the fences were reloved and

:06:04. > :06:08.the first traffic was allowdd through. There are plans for new

:06:09. > :06:15.houses, business facilities and shops and it is hoped Huntington can

:06:16. > :06:20.tempt people away from Peterborough and Cambridge. We have largd areas

:06:21. > :06:25.to the north and south of us and this creates jobs and prospdrity and

:06:26. > :06:29.it has to be good for the local populace. Work will start l`ter this

:06:30. > :06:32.year. In Football and an important result

:06:33. > :06:37.for Peterborough in League one. They beat Gillingham by two ` zero. The

:06:38. > :06:40.result keeps Posh in sixth place in the table but extends their

:06:41. > :06:43.advantage over seventh placd MK Dons to six points with just fivd games

:06:44. > :06:45.remaining. That's all from the late team. Time to get the weathdr now

:06:46. > :06:56.with Alex Dolan. We have clear sky out there and

:06:57. > :07:05.light winds. Temperatures m`y get down to four Celsius in the

:07:06. > :07:13.countryside. We start tomorrow quite chilly. The centre and could turn

:07:14. > :07:16.hazy at times but it is gendrally a milder air mass. There will be

:07:17. > :07:23.lighter winds and temperatures may get above 14 Celsius. It dods look

:07:24. > :07:32.dry but rather cloudy for the afternoon. Here is the outlook.

:07:33. > :07:40.dry. Maybe a bit of light rain on Friday. A quiet spell for us. Not so

:07:41. > :07:42.on the other side of the world. As you have been hearing, there is not

:07:43. > :07:46.a great deal happening in the weather over the UK over the next

:07:47. > :07:50.couple of days. Meanwhile, we have been attacked

:07:51. > :07:54.thing -- tracking an active spring storm in the US. There have been

:07:55. > :08:02.reports of flash flooding and tornadoes. You can see a narrowband

:08:03. > :08:05.which is weakening and heading out to the Atlantic. It is the Atlantic

:08:06. > :08:08.tonight that will pick up whether funds to the north of the UK,

:08:09. > :08:12.bringing with them or cloud and outbreaks of rain. Meanwhile,

:08:13. > :08:17.pressure remains relatively high to the south. There is a small chance

:08:18. > :08:22.of patchy mist and fog and low cloud by the end of the night. But

:08:23. > :08:28.temperatures will fall away again. A chilly start to Wednesday morning.

:08:29. > :08:29.There will be a bit of a
