:00:00. > :00:00.in Ukraine. That is all from the BBC News at six. It is goodbye from me

:00:00. > :00:07.Hello and welcome to Thursd`y's Look East. In the programme tonight.

:00:08. > :00:16.Drivers beware, this Easter Getaway looks to be one of the busidst yet.

:00:17. > :00:20.We'll have the latest travel advice to ease you into the weekend.

:00:21. > :00:23.The pensioner left with a broken neck and fighting for his lhfe. His

:00:24. > :00:31.family says he was thrown from his stairlift. The hospital havd tried

:00:32. > :00:36.everything they can, but thdy can just do no more for him.

:00:37. > :00:39.Also tonight, we look ahead to all the weekend's sport and go behind

:00:40. > :00:44.the greens with one of golf's hottest properties.

:00:45. > :00:47.And there will be some sunshine over the bank on a day weekend, but by

:00:48. > :00:49.Easter Sunday, there is a good chance he will be needing one of

:00:50. > :00:57.these. A 93`year`old man from Milton Keynes

:00:58. > :01:09.has broken his neck after First, a warning that this weekend

:01:10. > :01:13.could be one of the biggest on record for travellers. `` btsiest.

:01:14. > :01:16.Motoring organisations are predicting huge numbers of ts will

:01:17. > :01:20.be taking to the roads and the situation could get worse on Monday

:01:21. > :01:25.with everyone heading back for the start of school on Tuesday. We are

:01:26. > :01:32.at the highways agency control centre. How is it looking? Good

:01:33. > :01:37.evening, from this control room at South Minns in Hertfordshird. The

:01:38. > :01:42.highways agency have hundreds of cameras trained on motorway and

:01:43. > :01:47.trunk road. They can keep an eye on the main routes in the region here,

:01:48. > :01:54.the M1, the M11, the 814. And it has been a very busy day for thdm. ``

:01:55. > :01:58.the A14. Lunchtime, and a shgn of things to come. Traffic is `lready

:01:59. > :02:02.slowing down. This family from Kent chose to stop

:02:03. > :02:07.at the services for a picnic, knowing there Jenny to the Lidlands

:02:08. > :02:11.will always just get more `` knowing their journey will just get more

:02:12. > :02:16.difficult. We set up from Ashford, it was not too bad, it was slowing

:02:17. > :02:21.down but we have managed to get here. We have had some breaks but

:02:22. > :02:25.now it is joining the M1 he`ding off to Luton and Milton Keynes, that is

:02:26. > :02:29.what we are worried about. We think it could be quite clogged around

:02:30. > :02:32.that area. With most schools returning on Tuesday, this bank

:02:33. > :02:40.holiday is predicted to be one of the busiest Easter weekend hs on the

:02:41. > :02:43.years. Thursday is going to be busy, into Thursday evening, and then also

:02:44. > :02:49.on Friday morning as well bdcause you will get the normal Friday rush

:02:50. > :02:55.for the weekend, actually lhnked up with people doing day trips as well.

:02:56. > :02:58.I think it is going to be btsiest Thursday and Friday, the rest of the

:02:59. > :03:03.period, it should be pretty much spread out. There will be cloud

:03:04. > :03:09.around and that could produce an isolated snow shower. Last xear it

:03:10. > :03:13.was a different story. With Easter much earlier, some parts of the

:03:14. > :03:18.region even had a spreading a snow. This weekend, forecast is mtch

:03:19. > :03:22.improved. While not exactly a heatwave, still good news for the

:03:23. > :03:25.region's tourist attractions. This safari park has already seen an

:03:26. > :03:30.increase on last Easter's vhsitor numbers. This bank honoured a

:03:31. > :03:33.weekend, we are very optimistic that figures will be fantastic, lots of

:03:34. > :03:38.visitors coming to see us and the new attractions and animals. We are

:03:39. > :03:42.already seeing double`digit growth last year. We had quite a cold

:03:43. > :03:47.Easter last year, so with the beautiful sunshine, we are dxpecting

:03:48. > :03:50.it to be busy. While many plan to be making the most of the Eastdr

:03:51. > :03:55.weekend here in the UK, thotsands will spend it abroad. Luton airport

:03:56. > :03:59.is expecting 120,000 passengers this weekend, 10,000 more than l`st year.

:04:00. > :04:04.Passengers are being warned of roadworks with the airport. There

:04:05. > :04:07.are speed restrictions in the roadworks so although the traffic is

:04:08. > :04:10.flowing well, it takes a bit longer to get through the junction. Be

:04:11. > :04:17.aware of that before you arrange your travels the airport. Whth a new

:04:18. > :04:20.term starting on Tuesday, this family and others are deterlined to

:04:21. > :04:24.make the most of the weekend with or without delays.

:04:25. > :04:32.Where are the main trouble this evening? It seems as if the worst

:04:33. > :04:39.has passed. Looking at the cameras, there are some delays on thd end 25

:04:40. > :04:44.and the M1, as you would expect It will be stop start there but there

:04:45. > :04:48.are no incidents to report. The highways agency has put on better

:04:49. > :04:51.patrols during these busy thmes to keep the carriageway is open, they

:04:52. > :04:57.have dealt with dozens of incidents. Earlier today, there was an accident

:04:58. > :05:03.involving a lorry and a car. Two people were taken to hospit`l for

:05:04. > :05:06.their injuries. The advice for motorists is check your vehhcle to

:05:07. > :05:11.avoid breakdowns before takhng a long journey, plan your route, this

:05:12. > :05:13.into your local BBC Radio station for up`to`date travel inforlation.

:05:14. > :05:19.The best advice is to enjoy your weekend.

:05:20. > :05:24.93`year`old man from Milton Keynes has his neck after it is believed he

:05:25. > :05:27.fell out of the stairlift. Leslie Taylor's family are now takhng legal

:05:28. > :05:30.action against the company which supplied it and an investig`tion is

:05:31. > :05:39.underway. Meanwhile Mr Taylor has been left in a very frail condition

:05:40. > :05:43.and is fighting for his lifd. 93`year`old Leslie Taylor, now back

:05:44. > :05:49.home from hospital. His famhly wanted to care for him here. You

:05:50. > :05:53.know who I am, I am the noisy one. I am the bane of your life. Shnce

:05:54. > :05:58.December, he has been having a round`the`clock care after being

:05:59. > :06:03.found at home having fallen from his stairlift. Since then, he h`s had

:06:04. > :06:10.pneumonia and court ceded to in hospital, leaving him a shadow of

:06:11. > :06:13.the man he was. He was very independent prior to this, he lived

:06:14. > :06:17.on his own, we had taken into Bournemouth a couple of weeks before

:06:18. > :06:23.and he had a little mobilitx scooter, and he used to sit on that

:06:24. > :06:28.and go different places. But to see what has happened to him, it has

:06:29. > :06:32.taken away everything from him. The stairlift had been fitted in 20 2.

:06:33. > :06:37.The family had been unhappy with it. There had been several visits by

:06:38. > :06:41.engineers to check it. This is a new chair. The family say the old one

:06:42. > :06:45.was taken away for testing. They say that on the day that it happened, it

:06:46. > :06:48.was found hanging off near the top of the stairs. Their father had

:06:49. > :06:55.fallen down here where some of his bones had been broken. The company

:06:56. > :06:58.which supplied the chair sahd the safety of people who use thdir

:06:59. > :07:11.products is their first priority. In a statement, they said...

:07:12. > :07:19.The last four months have bden hard on the family. It has been

:07:20. > :07:24.horrendous, you can do nothhng for him. Another hospital have tried

:07:25. > :07:31.everything they can, but thdy can do no more for him so we have brought

:07:32. > :07:35.him home. The family say thdy are now doing anything to make him as

:07:36. > :07:38.comfortable as they can. Police in Peterborough have been on

:07:39. > :07:41.the streets today appealing for information about the death of a

:07:42. > :07:45.young man a week ago. Haroon Sanghar, who was 18, died of head

:07:46. > :07:51.injuries after an incident hnvolving a black Vauxhall Astra in Rtssell

:07:52. > :07:55.Street. Two men are in custody charged with robbery and murder

:07:56. > :07:59.Criminals across Cambridgeshire have been ordered to pay back more than

:08:00. > :08:03.?2 million during the past 02 months. The money's come from

:08:04. > :08:08.proceeds of crime, and cash from drug users and dealers. Victims of

:08:09. > :08:12.crime will be given nearly ?200 000 of the money. The police force will

:08:13. > :08:22.receive nearly half a million pounds. Clearly, where crimhnals are

:08:23. > :08:25.put in prison or other forms of justice in terms of paying back time

:08:26. > :08:27.for their crime, there is nothing more powerful than taking the money

:08:28. > :08:29.they have earned from their crimes from them.

:08:30. > :08:32.There was an earthquake in Northamptonshire this morning. The

:08:33. > :08:36.British Geological Survey confirmed the 3.2 magnitude quake lasted

:08:37. > :08:39.several minutes. The epicentre was Oakham in Rutland but peopld in

:08:40. > :08:45.Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough all felt it too. Louise Hubball sent

:08:46. > :08:54.us this report from the village of Caldecott.

:08:55. > :09:03.Nestled in beautiful countrx set `` countryside, Caldecott is a peaceful

:09:04. > :09:06.place. But whilst the villagers are having their copy this mornhng, they

:09:07. > :09:14.felt the earth move. You can stop now! It really did happen as Pauline

:09:15. > :09:17.and her puppy will tell you. I was brushing my teeth with an electric

:09:18. > :09:21.toothbrush, and I thought I heard a background noise. I turned the

:09:22. > :09:27.toothbrush off and I thought it was a lorry going by. So I did not

:09:28. > :09:32.realise it was an earthquakd. Also, Barney was barking at the thme. He

:09:33. > :09:39.is growling now, is there going to be another one? There could be! And

:09:40. > :09:42.here, everyone is talking about it. Felt a travelling in the hotse, not

:09:43. > :09:49.sure because there was the welding work, `` there was building works,

:09:50. > :09:53.we thought it was a vibrating plate. My wife said it is an earthpuake we

:09:54. > :10:00.had one before. I recognised it was an earthquake, it was about seven in

:10:01. > :10:08.the morning. You sound very calm. It was the first one `` it was not the

:10:09. > :10:11.first one I have experienced. It was the strongest in the region for 13

:10:12. > :10:16.years, with people claiming to have felt it as far away as Peterborough.

:10:17. > :10:20.Although we are not opposed to any plate boundaries, we do expdrience a

:10:21. > :10:25.slight squeezing as a result of the mid Atlantic Ridge. Earthqu`kes in

:10:26. > :10:30.the region are not uncommon, and visitors to small adjustment to the

:10:31. > :10:35.stresses that are built up. `` this is just a small adjustment. We set

:10:36. > :10:41.up cameras across the Reddit in case there was an after`shock. There was

:10:42. > :10:46.not! `` across the village. So after an extraordinary morning, tonight,

:10:47. > :10:49.life in Caldecott is as tranquil as ever.

:10:50. > :10:52.Figures just released show that fewer passengers are using the Luton

:10:53. > :10:56.to Dunstable busway than orhginally predicted.

:10:57. > :11:00.From October to the end of December, there were nearly 350,000 p`ssenger

:11:01. > :11:05.trips made. That's about 4,000 a day but 41% less than forecast. Luton

:11:06. > :11:08.Borough Council says predictions for passenger numbers were made before

:11:09. > :11:14.the economic downturn and confidence is now growing.

:11:15. > :11:18.The process of demolishing Greyfriars bus station in

:11:19. > :11:21.Northampton will begin this weekend. There'll be road closures in place

:11:22. > :11:28.as connecting bridges linking the old bus station to the Grosvenor

:11:29. > :11:31.Centre are taken down. Those are your top stories tonight.

:11:32. > :11:35.the house to get the car keys. They may not be aware the vehicle is

:11:36. > :11:47.A recruitment campaign has been launched to get people to bdcome

:11:48. > :11:51.firefighters. Still to come: Ipswich town are tantalisingly closd to the

:11:52. > :12:00.play`offs. And we go behind the scenes with a teenage thing

:12:01. > :12:04.sensation, Charley Hull. I'm sure you remember these pictures

:12:05. > :12:08.of oilseed rape fields from our programme last night, as far as the

:12:09. > :12:12.eye can see. It's been a bulper year for rape seed but there is ` problem

:12:13. > :12:15.` how to keep the birds frol having their fill. These days, scarecrows

:12:16. > :12:18.don't quite do it. Pilfering pigeons are nothing new,

:12:19. > :12:21.farmers desperate to figure out how to keep them at bay. As well as the

:12:22. > :12:30.evolving and revolving scardcrow, there is the big bang theorx or the

:12:31. > :12:33.solar powered shriek. That hs incredibly loud! What is th`t

:12:34. > :12:43.mimicking? It can play anything from seagulls to rooks depending on what

:12:44. > :12:47.we are trying to deter. The trouble is that for pigeons, the fe`r factor

:12:48. > :12:51.doesn't last long. We chase them up into the trees there, but they come

:12:52. > :12:53.back before you know it. On the family farm near Sudbury,

:12:54. > :12:59.27`year`old Richard has comd up with a new tactic. The drone comds from

:13:00. > :13:03.different heights and angles all the time with different sounds so it is

:13:04. > :13:07.something they can't get usdd to in a hurry. This is not about people

:13:08. > :13:11.playing with toys. It is behng driven by the economics of farming.

:13:12. > :13:15.Any farmer will tell you th`t get a flock of pigeons on a crop `nd they

:13:16. > :13:20.will destroy large areas quhckly. So you don't need to lose much before

:13:21. > :13:24.this type of kit can pay for itself. Will it catch on? There are a lot of

:13:25. > :13:29.neighbouring farmers near hdre who know what is going on so I think

:13:30. > :13:33.there will be more about. There will never be a quick fix to pigdon

:13:34. > :13:40.problems, but this is just `nother weapon that puts the fun back in it.

:13:41. > :13:43.Richard works full`time as ` full`size helicopter pilot, but he

:13:44. > :13:45.is keen to develop this machine further, not least its abilhty to

:13:46. > :13:54.carry out preprogrammed patrols across the fields. It cost ?150 and

:13:55. > :14:09.covers 1600 acres. It is sedn here is a shrewd, shrieking investment.

:14:10. > :14:13.Now if you are a football f`n and you support anybody apart from MK

:14:14. > :14:24.Dons or Luton Town, you are either very excited about the Eastdr

:14:25. > :14:27.weekend or very nervous. Ipswich are in effect of thd fight

:14:28. > :14:38.for a retard, Ipswich are in effect of thd fight

:14:39. > :14:50.out of the top six on goal difference. It's sure to be tense,

:14:51. > :14:53.with so much at stake. It's the final stretch in an

:14:54. > :14:56.engrossing, exhausting season. Four games left and Ipswich have all to

:14:57. > :14:59.play for. After inheriting ` side battling a drop, Mick McCarthy has

:15:00. > :15:05.transformed Town's fortunes down to one key ingredient For some. Just

:15:06. > :15:10.consistency and performances and results. We have never really had a

:15:11. > :15:14.bad run or a really good run. It has just been consistent, picking up

:15:15. > :15:17.points as we move along. I think the gaffer has found a group of 20

:15:18. > :15:22.players who, when called upon, give consistent performances. A stressful

:15:23. > :15:26.time of the year but the pl`yers have found time to relax, showing

:15:27. > :15:32.off their other talents with the Junior Blues, a generation who have

:15:33. > :15:37.grown up with the club. 12 straight seasons at this level, but that

:15:38. > :15:41.could be about to change. Pdople at my school mainly support thd Premier

:15:42. > :15:44.League teams and to say your team is in the Premier League when xou

:15:45. > :15:55.support the local team is qtite a nice feeling. I hope we do go up,

:15:56. > :15:58.that will be amazing. I hopd Norwich get relegated as well. We'vd got a

:15:59. > :16:02.small budget compared to a lot of teams in and around us and we have

:16:03. > :16:08.done fantastic. From chairm`n all the way down, the gaffer has been

:16:09. > :16:11.fantastic. All the lads are buzzing. The Easter period is often decisive.

:16:12. > :16:13.Ipswich start with a trip to Watford on Saturday before a home m`tch with

:16:14. > :16:22.Bournemouth 48 hours later. The week after it's second`place

:16:23. > :16:23.Burnley, they could be up bx the time Town visit, then Sheffheld

:16:24. > :16:35.Wednesday on the final day. It gives a massive buzz to the town.

:16:36. > :16:41.Is it extra special for you having followed Ipswich as a youngster

:16:42. > :16:44.Yeah. I'm from Ipswich, I'm a boyhood Town fan, I want to do

:16:45. > :16:53.everything possible to get Hpswich into the Premier League. Only goal

:16:54. > :16:58.difference keeps them out of the top six. They're on a roll, hophng to

:16:59. > :17:03.strike when it matters. They've known about it all season.

:17:04. > :17:06.The dreaded final four fixttres are here for Norwich. Close your eyes if

:17:07. > :17:09.you have to. Liverpool first on Sunday, Manchester United ndxt week,

:17:10. > :17:16.then Chelsea before Champions League hopefuls Arsenal on the fin`l day.

:17:17. > :17:19.Norwich will almost certainly need a result or two if they're to avoid

:17:20. > :17:22.relegation from the Premier League. They're two points above Fulham but,

:17:23. > :17:28.on paper, the bottom three `ll have easier run`ins. So first up for

:17:29. > :17:35.Norwich, Liverpool, who are eying the title. We've had good

:17:36. > :17:46.performances against Arsenal and Manchester city, so Liverpool have

:17:47. > :18:02.to have an off day. It's re`lly Norwich against worries. Su`rez ``.

:18:03. > :18:05.Now our sides in Leagues Ond and Two play tomorrow and again on Daster

:18:06. > :18:08.Monday. Here's Good Friday's games. And talking to Colchester's manager,

:18:09. > :18:12.he's rather hoping the Us whll be safe after Easter. They're `t home

:18:13. > :18:14.to Oldham. MK Dons have fallen out of the play`off picture.

:18:15. > :18:17.Peterborough though right in it They're at Bradford. Steven`ge are

:18:18. > :18:20.getting into must`win territory if they're to survive. Four pohnts from

:18:21. > :18:23.safety heading to Sheffield United. In League Two, Southend, who are in

:18:24. > :18:26.the final play`off spot, go to second`placed Rochdale. And Wycombe

:18:27. > :18:30.` Northampton's simply huge ` that's third`from`bottom against

:18:31. > :18:37.second`bottom. Let's take a closer look. Chris Wilder says it hs not

:18:38. > :18:43.make or break, but he certahnly knows it is significant. Looking at

:18:44. > :18:51.the table, they need to win. Defeat makes survival that much harder

:18:52. > :18:58.Chris Wilder and Northampton. Their last training session in thd battle

:18:59. > :19:03.to stay up. We do have a few dogs of war. We have men with experhence who

:19:04. > :19:11.are up for the fight. They have shown that in their perform`nces and

:19:12. > :19:22.results. There are massive fixtures this weekend. Wycombe tomorrow and

:19:23. > :19:27.Portsmouth on Monday, lose both and it could be heavy. Good Friday's

:19:28. > :19:40.League One Games: Portsmouth on Monday, lose both and

:19:41. > :19:46.it could be heavy. Good Friday's `` anyone below 52 points will need a

:19:47. > :19:51.result to get over the line. Historically, at least 50 points

:19:52. > :19:54.keeps you in the division. Without Chris Wilder, they could have been

:19:55. > :20:01.relegated by now, but they `re on top form. Their status rests on the

:20:02. > :20:12.next fortnight, starting with Wycombe tomorrow.

:20:13. > :20:18.Keep up`to`date on your loc`l BBC Radio station.

:20:19. > :20:21.Can I just tell you about a programme this weekend on BBC East

:20:22. > :20:25.about the teenage golfer Ch`rley Hull. We have been following her

:20:26. > :20:28.story for the last ten years on this programme. When she was nind years

:20:29. > :20:32.old, she beat 24,000 other women to win the Ladies Amateur titld. Last

:20:33. > :20:35.year, she helped Europe beat America as the youngest player in the

:20:36. > :20:41.Solheim Cup. She was just 17 years old. James Burridge has been given

:20:42. > :20:45.exclusive access to Charley's world. She is the teenage tigress growing

:20:46. > :21:10.up fast and her swing is a thing of beauty.

:21:11. > :21:17.Welcome to my home. I live here with my mum and dad. From photo shoots to

:21:18. > :21:23.fitness, family life to famous friends, we have a special hnsight

:21:24. > :21:30.into what it takes to creatd a champion. She is a world be`ter

:21:31. > :21:38.There is no question in my lind She is on the threshold of greatness

:21:39. > :21:46.now. It is wonderful. I am competitive in everything I do. I

:21:47. > :22:00.would probably be competitive when tying my shoelace. Charlie has come

:22:01. > :22:06.to California to play and the first major of the year. She will be up

:22:07. > :22:14.against 100 of the world's best players. After her success `nd the

:22:15. > :22:23.Solheim Cup, she has fans in the United States. I love the pressure.

:22:24. > :22:29.I love the feeling that you had to pull it off or be embarrassdd.

:22:30. > :22:42.People pay to watch as an pdople get a buzz out of it. I am just me. It

:22:43. > :22:51.is not fake. I see what I sde, if people like me, that's good

:22:52. > :22:56.And you can see the full programme on Easter Sunday at 4.30pm on BBC

:22:57. > :23:11.One in the East. Let's go back to the state of the

:23:12. > :23:18.roads. We are talking to Mr Jobson at the control centre. Junction six,

:23:19. > :23:28.where the road was blocked, is cleared and open again.

:23:29. > :23:33.Are we that much busier than usual? We are but not as busy as a normal

:23:34. > :23:36.Thursday before Easter. I think that is because the holiday is at the end

:23:37. > :23:45.of the school holidays rathdr than the beginning. Where should people

:23:46. > :23:50.avoid in the next couple of hours? I don't think they should be `voided

:23:51. > :24:08.anywhere but they should be aware that it may take longer where it is

:24:09. > :24:17.busy. The M25 to junction 27. That is near Ainfield. Otherwise, if

:24:18. > :24:26.you're travelling, it doesn't look too bad tonight. Now, it is quite

:24:27. > :24:34.good. If you are travelling, have a safe journey. But have a look at the

:24:35. > :24:39.weather. It gets off to a promising start,

:24:40. > :24:45.our Easter weekend. Certainly some sunshine and dry weather tolorrow

:24:46. > :24:50.and Saturday, but by the tile we get to Easter Sunday, there is rain to

:24:51. > :24:55.come. A promising start this morning with fine weather across thd

:24:56. > :25:00.region, but look how this cloud develops from the north`west. This

:25:01. > :25:03.was a weak weather front he`ding southwards across the region and it

:25:04. > :25:09.has still not cleared away. It produced a little bit of light rain

:25:10. > :25:16.but that has now cleared. Wd are now entering a cloudy regime, btt it

:25:17. > :25:29.moves south to make a dry nhght Could be chilly temperatures, with

:25:30. > :25:32.the potential for growing frost There is enough of a breeze on the

:25:33. > :25:38.Norfolk coast to keep temperatures at seven Celsius. Tomorrow, a

:25:39. > :25:41.northerly wind will bring cool weather but there will be a lot of

:25:42. > :25:49.sunshine, particularly in the morning. Expect fine weather. You

:25:50. > :26:01.might want to wrap up warm. And part of Norfolk and Suffolk, it could be

:26:02. > :26:06.eight Celsius. Elsewhere, ftrther south, we are looking at hehghts of

:26:07. > :26:11.12 Celsius. For the afternoon, there could be more cloud around, although

:26:12. > :26:18.it looks like it will stay dry if not sunny. Our thoughts turn to

:26:19. > :26:23.Easter Sunday because we have got an area of low pressure moving in from

:26:24. > :26:29.the continent. This isn't great news. The timing is uncertahn, but

:26:30. > :26:34.it looks as though we are all going to be in for rain, particul`rly the

:26:35. > :26:40.south`east corner of the cotntry. It could be on the heavy side, so keep

:26:41. > :26:46.checking the forecast over the next few days. There is something to come

:26:47. > :26:55.before then. A similar pattdrn for Friday, but sunny spells. More cloud

:26:56. > :26:59.in the afternoon with maybe an isolated shower, but it looks dry

:27:00. > :27:04.for most of us. Not the best forecast for Easter Sunday, but it

:27:05. > :27:12.is like it will be a dry dax on Monday.

:27:13. > :27:17.Just remember, a year ago she was predicting snow!
