:00:00. > :00:25.Vauxhall's life`saver, the new van is launched that saved 1200 jobs in

:00:26. > :00:30.Luton. We will be here later in thd the

:00:31. > :00:34.millions of pounds being potred into potholes in the region.

:00:35. > :00:36.And World Cup Michael takes a look at the highs and lows of an England

:00:37. > :00:47.fan. First tonight, the two Peterborough

:00:48. > :00:49.men who've been sentenced to a total of 32 years in jail for

:00:50. > :00:52.trafficking underage girls for sex. In May this year, Yasir Ali and

:00:53. > :00:55.Daim Ashraf were convicted of 24 offences against vulndrable

:00:56. > :01:00.girls, some were as young as 13 Louise Hubball is at

:01:01. > :01:15.Cambridge Crown Court now. Daim Ashraf laughed in the dock as

:01:16. > :01:23.he was sentenced. Yasir Ali showed no emotion as he was given 20 years

:01:24. > :01:26.in prison and described as `` by the judge as dangerous.

:01:27. > :01:29.Yasir Ali and Daim Ashraf , men who groomed vulnerable girls as young

:01:30. > :01:32.as 13, trafficking them frol their homes into Peterborough for sex

:01:33. > :01:34.This is a story of the ordeal their victims went

:01:35. > :01:37.through and what is being done to prevent it happening again.

:01:38. > :01:40.28`year`old Yasir Ali raped four girls,

:01:41. > :01:49.He denied everything when rdpeatedly challenged by an officer.

:01:50. > :01:51.Picking young girls up, driving them around, giving them alcohol and

:01:52. > :01:54.taking them to dead`end roads and going to hotels with young girls.

:01:55. > :02:05.You are not, you are a sexual predator.

:02:06. > :02:13.Yasir Ali abused one teenagdr in a car in this park in Peterborough.

:02:14. > :02:21.He changed from being seemingly caring and attentive to a r`pist.

:02:22. > :02:23.She has been brave enough to tell her story.

:02:24. > :02:32.He told me I was beautiful and then he turned horrible.

:02:33. > :02:37.I did feel like he was just using me for sex, but I was in love with him.

:02:38. > :02:39.The girl planned a holiday with Yasir Ali and gave him hundreds

:02:40. > :02:44.Then she found he had gone without her and got married to someone else.

:02:45. > :02:55.I can't trust anyone any more, because he told me

:02:56. > :02:57.if I was good`looking, he would have stayed with md.

:02:58. > :03:00.It has made me feel that no one will ever want

:03:01. > :03:10.Just come forward and tell someone about it before they take control .

:03:11. > :03:12.Today, Yasir Ali and Daim Ashraf wdre

:03:13. > :03:17.Outside court, the officer in charge gave his reaction.

:03:18. > :03:20.I think it is telling that the judge described Ali as dangdrous.

:03:21. > :03:24.These are dangerous individtals and they are off the street.

:03:25. > :03:30.Other victims that may be ott there can draw strength frol that.

:03:31. > :03:32.These are dangerous people and they are

:03:33. > :03:36.This has been a victim`led investigation.

:03:37. > :03:45.The focus in Peterborough is to make sure it does not happen agahn .

:03:46. > :03:50.We are trying to get more people to identify there max

:03:51. > :03:53.We?re working with taxi drivers doormen, schools.

:03:54. > :04:01.This case was brought to cotrt simply because girls were

:04:02. > :04:14.I was given access to the work the police are doing in schools in

:04:15. > :04:18.Peterborough to try to help teenagers spot the signs of sexual

:04:19. > :04:23.abuse. It is part of a national scheme and officers say it works.

:04:24. > :04:27.We will be talking about exploitation today.

:04:28. > :04:28.Police in Peterborough have taken the battle

:04:29. > :04:33.For these 13 and 14`year`olds, it is time for a frank disctssion.

:04:34. > :04:35.I want you to write down wh`t exploitation means to you.

:04:36. > :04:39.If you don't know, just write, "I don't know."

:04:40. > :04:51.They were shown a film depicting grooming and abusive relationships.

:04:52. > :04:59.This is a tool to identify who in the gang holds the power.

:05:00. > :05:02.In a scenario where older boys ply younger girls with drink

:05:03. > :05:06.This work has been going on for nearly five years.

:05:07. > :05:09.All are aware that the city has now seen two high`profile

:05:10. > :05:17.I think safeguarding students has always been at the centre

:05:18. > :05:20.of our work, but these cases have highlighted concerns and as a school

:05:21. > :05:31.There is an issue with Peterborough, a few cases.

:05:32. > :05:39.We get children coming to us after, if they're not happy to spe`k to

:05:40. > :05:47.They can come to the schools and talk to their teachers and head

:05:48. > :05:53.teachers. Obviously,

:05:54. > :05:55.that gets referred to us if there is I found today quite useful,

:05:56. > :06:04.because I didn't know there were websites that you can go to if those

:06:05. > :06:07.sorts of things happen to you. Were you surprised to learn

:06:08. > :06:09.what exploitation meant? Yeah, I didn't have a clue

:06:10. > :06:12.about what it meant, but now I do. Yasir Ali and Daaim Ashraf Dxploited

:06:13. > :06:16.vulnerable girls by making them feel Many victims didn't realise they

:06:17. > :06:19.were being abused and hope this trial prevent others

:06:20. > :06:34.from falling into the same trap The judge said the jury had seen

:06:35. > :06:39.through the men's' lies. Thd challenge now for the policd and the

:06:40. > :06:41.city council is to ensure that all teenagers are equipped to bd able to

:06:42. > :06:45.identify exploitation in re`l life. A doctor working at Bedford Hospital

:06:46. > :06:47.has told an inquest she would have fdlt more

:06:48. > :06:50.comfortable if she'd receivdd more Dr Surabhi Choudhary was giving

:06:51. > :06:53.evidence at the inquest into the death of 10`month`old

:06:54. > :06:57.Luca Downie from Bedford. He died from a heart condithon

:06:58. > :07:00.at the hospital in April last year. Some children's services were

:07:01. > :07:02.suspended at the hospital Vauxhall in Luton has offichally

:07:03. > :07:12.launched its new van today. The latest Vivaro marks

:07:13. > :07:14.a turning point for the factory which only a few years

:07:15. > :07:19.ago was threatened with closure In 2010, 365 people lost thdir jobs

:07:20. > :07:23.and the parent company GM w`rned the factory would close if it w`sn't

:07:24. > :07:28.selected to build the new v`n. But after months of lobbying by the

:07:29. > :07:31.Government and trade unions, Luton 1,200 jobs were secured

:07:32. > :07:39.for the next decade. Our business correspondent

:07:40. > :07:42.Richard Bond reports. It's what every factory worker wants

:07:43. > :07:44.` a new product which guarantees The new Vivaro van is coming

:07:45. > :07:54.off the Luton production line. Morale was low

:07:55. > :07:57.and people had their heads down and now we have a new contr`ct

:07:58. > :08:01.and things are looking good. Better than what it

:08:02. > :08:03.was 12 months ago. People have seen the new vehicle

:08:04. > :08:06.coming down the line, hopeftlly we Winning the new contract

:08:07. > :08:15.hasn't been pain`free. Hundreds of jobs were lost to

:08:16. > :08:18.the recession as demand Vauxhall has increased the TK

:08:19. > :08:26.content of the new van There's a lot of benefit

:08:27. > :08:33.in having the suppliers close to the manufacturing plants `

:08:34. > :08:36.logistics costs a lot of money and we cannot afford to movd things

:08:37. > :08:39.around so much, it is important to More local suppliers have

:08:40. > :08:46.been given contracts. The seats are made by a company

:08:47. > :08:50.in Dunstable. We employee 53 currently,

:08:51. > :08:55.going forward with the new lodel we should go and increase

:08:56. > :09:04.our employee headcount, as well It is very important,

:09:05. > :09:07.we are the only seat supplidr and GM UK suppliers will get ?600 lillion

:09:08. > :09:14.worth of new business over the next But the factory still has plenty

:09:15. > :09:21.of challenges. The UK market for vans is

:09:22. > :09:24.recovering, which is good ndws. But half of the vans go

:09:25. > :09:28.for exports to Europe and mtch of Some European economies

:09:29. > :09:37.have been slow. There are signs that that is

:09:38. > :09:43.turning a bit of a corner. But actually the example in Austria

:09:44. > :09:49.where they have sold out of the current van, so there is a good

:09:50. > :09:53.sign that Europe is coming back Britain used to have

:09:54. > :09:55.three van factories. Three people, including two

:09:56. > :10:08.teenagers, have been arrestdd after a 16`year`old boy was stabbed

:10:09. > :10:11.near a school in Milton Keynes. Police said there was a fight

:10:12. > :10:15.in Phoenix Drive in Leadenh`ll, near St Paul's Catholic School,

:10:16. > :10:18.yesterday afternoon. The victim was taken to hospital,

:10:19. > :10:21.but the injuries aren't thotght to Investigations are underway tonight

:10:22. > :10:25.into what caused a serious fire Crews were called to

:10:26. > :10:31.Harvey Reeves Road Residents living nearby werd told

:10:32. > :10:49.to keep their windows and doors The fire was described by

:10:50. > :10:55.firefighters at a very tensd. At its height, smoke can be seen from

:10:56. > :10:59.miles. Fire crews were calldd to the scrap yard late last night. Modern

:11:00. > :11:04.technology was used to help bring the blaze under control. We have a

:11:05. > :11:10.robot that we can use remotdly. We sent it to an area and use ht to

:11:11. > :11:17.great success and got into the fire and used Appliances to make

:11:18. > :11:22.successful attacks on the fhre. It was a very aggressive tactic, on our

:11:23. > :11:31.part. Throughout the night, residents were 22 keep Windows ``

:11:32. > :11:36.told to keep windows closed. A local fun run was cancelled.

:11:37. > :11:40.The couple from Northampton who were extradited to the US

:11:41. > :11:51.There is still delays on thd Mon after it was closed southbotnd. It

:11:52. > :11:57.took emergency services to ours to clear the scene. The road rdopened

:11:58. > :11:59.after five o'clock, four people had to be taken to the Luton and

:12:00. > :12:00.Dunstable Hospital. The couple from Northampton who were

:12:01. > :12:02.extradited to the US Paul and Sandra Dunham fought

:12:03. > :12:05.extradition, but were remanded Today, the Prime Minister s`id

:12:06. > :12:09.the government did examine The couple had tried to takd

:12:10. > :12:14.their own lives. Now a court

:12:15. > :12:18.in Maryland will release thdm. They'll be together for the first

:12:19. > :12:26.time since they were sent to the US. They should be released early next

:12:27. > :12:28.week. First, back to Stewart and Susie

:12:29. > :12:50.for the rest of the news, Still to come, worries that we are

:12:51. > :12:52.running out of GPs. And thex look back on a good night for England

:12:53. > :12:58.fans. Now if you are fed up with

:12:59. > :13:01.dodging potholes in the road there is some good news tonhght

:13:02. > :13:03.Councils across the region have managed to

:13:04. > :13:05.get a big share of government money to repair damaged roads.

:13:06. > :13:08.Today local councils learned they're to get an extra ?22 million

:13:09. > :13:11.of government money to mend potholes in our region.

:13:12. > :13:13.Norfolk, Essex and Northamptonshire will be the biggest winners,

:13:14. > :13:18.followed by Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

:13:19. > :13:21.It costs around ?61 to repair a pothole.

:13:22. > :13:23.The government says the money will pay for more than

:13:24. > :13:41.It is today with the pothold gang. Essex received one of the bhggest

:13:42. > :13:49.government hand`outs in England ?4.4 million. The cash cannot come

:13:50. > :13:58.soon enough. In recent years we have had a lot of damage on the roads and

:13:59. > :14:02.we are playing constant catch up. We will try to do these repairs

:14:03. > :14:11.properly so we may not appe`r as many potholes but what we'll do the

:14:12. > :14:15.repair will be done properlx. This pothole almost cost this man his

:14:16. > :14:23.life, fracturing his skull `fter swerving to avoid it. At thd High

:14:24. > :14:27.Court he was awarded nearly ?70 000. I have suffered permanent injuries

:14:28. > :14:34.and they are life changing `nd I do think somebody had to be held to

:14:35. > :14:38.account. Today's announcement of an extra ?22 million is welcomd news

:14:39. > :14:44.for councils who are faced with compensation claims from ro`d users.

:14:45. > :14:49.We potholes which are stopphng people getting to work and

:14:50. > :14:56.endangering people, you need now is done immediately. That is what this

:14:57. > :15:00.will provide. A welcome sight for people, councils like North`mpton

:15:01. > :15:06.sure that do more with dedicated repair teams and equipment will get

:15:07. > :15:13.more government cash. The epuipment you see today is used as thd most

:15:14. > :15:16.up`to`date technology. It mdans we can do a whole lot of potholes very

:15:17. > :15:23.close together with minimum disruption. We keep trialling

:15:24. > :15:28.different bits of kept incltding best machine, ideal for small rural

:15:29. > :15:33.roads. Trying to get the best value we can out of what money we have

:15:34. > :15:36.got. The local government Association says decades of

:15:37. > :15:40.underfunding have trapped local councils in an endless cycld but the

:15:41. > :15:44.question is will this money be enough to smooth the way?

:15:45. > :15:47.Senior doctors are warning that some of

:15:48. > :15:50.the region's GP surgeries are facing their gravest crisis for decades.

:15:51. > :15:52.It's to do with recruitment and a lack of trained medics to

:15:53. > :15:55.It's a subject that will evdn be discussed

:15:56. > :15:59.The worry is that unless young doctors can be

:16:00. > :16:01.persuaded to go into general practice, thousands of patidnts

:16:02. > :16:18.The pressure is rising and the statistics tell a stark story. The

:16:19. > :16:23.man for medical services is going up and there are not enough GPs to go

:16:24. > :16:30.around. This is probably thd worst workforce crisis in 30 years. We are

:16:31. > :16:35.getting reports from a lovely way of real difficulties recruiting GPs. If

:16:36. > :16:40.you have been to the doctor lately you will have seen some changes

:16:41. > :16:46.Surgeries have been high`tech places wearing a lot of care now t`kes

:16:47. > :16:49.place. The increased worklo`d has led many established doctors to

:16:50. > :16:52.retire early and with fewer graduates opting for general

:16:53. > :16:58.practice be and is a signifhcant shortage. It is a practice with

:16:59. > :17:06.16,000 patients and we are short of six doctors. They will be down to

:17:07. > :17:12.two GPs within a few months. They do not think they can provide ` safe

:17:13. > :17:16.service any more. Despite the drop, the take`up of training places are

:17:17. > :17:21.still relatively high but wd have been told by local medical

:17:22. > :17:28.committees that GP training courses attached to hospitals like West

:17:29. > :17:32.Suffolk are only half will. This woman is training as a doctor in

:17:33. > :17:39.London but is spending four months in Stowmarket. Suffolk is a great

:17:40. > :17:42.place to work and I have re`lly enjoyed it with a great range of

:17:43. > :17:55.things to do outside of work and it is great to have diversity. Do you

:17:56. > :17:58.think you might come back? H would not say no. Whether she comds back

:17:59. > :18:03.or not the failure to solve the crisis could have far reachhng

:18:04. > :18:10.consequences. I worry that we are seeing the privatisation of health

:18:11. > :18:18.care. Then we will lose that personal care that the population

:18:19. > :18:22.has grown to appreciate. Many general practices are small

:18:23. > :18:28.businesses in their own right and that is the funding model. There is

:18:29. > :18:33.an opportunity for general practices to offer additional salary for new

:18:34. > :18:39.GPs coming in and packages for new GPs to attract people. With less

:18:40. > :18:48.than a year to the general dlection the political pressure to solve the

:18:49. > :18:50.crisis is on the rise. At least we were concentrathng!

:18:51. > :18:53.And you can see the health linister and Suffolk MP Dan Poulter

:18:54. > :18:55.interviewed about that storx in this weekend's Sunday Politics.

:18:56. > :18:58.It's at 11 o'clock on BBC One on Sunday.

:18:59. > :19:02.Some people in the seaside town of Southwold say they are strprised

:19:03. > :19:04.a food bank is needed. It's being launched tomorrow.

:19:05. > :19:06.It's backed by local churchds and they say there are needx people

:19:07. > :19:22.who will benefit. Southwold is a picture postcard town

:19:23. > :19:27.in an area where beach huts can sell for ?145,000 and 82 bed terrace for

:19:28. > :19:31.more than 300,000, and you light think they'd is not any for food

:19:32. > :19:39.banks. Organisers say the owners head and poverty. One of thd gaps

:19:40. > :19:44.has been revered and is delhvery service or dropping where pdople can

:19:45. > :19:49.collect parcels. The food b`nk warehouse will deliver packdd

:19:50. > :19:55.parcels for individuals and couples and families and then we will store

:19:56. > :20:01.them locally. They will be delivered out to wherever they are nedded

:20:02. > :20:06.This church like many relies on the generosity of the community. Every

:20:07. > :20:12.week around 20 bags of food are donated locally helping 70 families.

:20:13. > :20:18.Wherever you are and that c`n be in a wealthy part of the country you

:20:19. > :20:20.can be the person on low income who is self`employed and has run into

:20:21. > :20:25.difficulty with ill`health `nd is not getting enough money, and it is

:20:26. > :20:29.wonderful when we see local communities getting together and

:20:30. > :20:36.rallying roads to make sure people in situations like that get

:20:37. > :20:39.emergency food. Nearly 3400 people in east Suffolk were given food

:20:40. > :20:44.parcels last year and demand is increasing. Having this new facility

:20:45. > :20:47.means local people can get hmmediate help and will not have to spend

:20:48. > :20:50.money travelling miles to gdt it. who will benefit.

:20:51. > :20:59.So we now know, England are out of the World Cup.

:21:00. > :21:01.Italy lost to Costa Rica thhs afternoon which means Roy Hodgson's

:21:02. > :21:12.Last night, we watched as Uruguay's Luis Suarez scored twice to break

:21:13. > :21:26.As World Cup Mike reports, it was a night of ups and downs

:21:27. > :21:35.The pub in Cambridge packed out for a game England dare not lose.

:21:36. > :21:38.As always, watching England is a nail`biting affair

:21:39. > :21:51.In from Steven Gerrard and off the bar!

:21:52. > :21:55.Around the region, the Wilson family,

:21:56. > :21:58.San the dog cannot take his eyes off and in Wellingborough, staying

:21:59. > :22:04.The first goal was always going to be important and guess who scored?

:22:05. > :22:15.The goal was greeted by the odd shake of the head

:22:16. > :22:25.All of them corners, Wayne Rooney needs to pull it together.

:22:26. > :22:30.In Norwich, they are on the edge of their seats.

:22:31. > :22:36.And when Wayne Rooney scores, there is great excitement.

:22:37. > :22:53.Luis Suarez scores again and this face pretty much stms up

:22:54. > :23:01.They had world`class players, we were average at best.

:23:02. > :23:14.England are coming home and the only option now is to become

:23:15. > :23:43.That was a great face! Hope for good weather. I have to check thd weather

:23:44. > :23:44.for Sunday because I am doing a skydive on Sunday. It is looking

:23:45. > :23:56.good! I think you are going to be

:23:57. > :24:01.jumping, good luck, you are brave woman. More sunshine than ydsterday.

:24:02. > :24:10.Temperatures have been up to 22 Celsius. Many other parts of the

:24:11. > :24:15.region are not far behind. That is about average for this time of year.

:24:16. > :24:21.Several degrees cooler around the course because we had an onshore

:24:22. > :24:26.breeze but through the afternoon the thicker cloud cleared so most of us

:24:27. > :24:35.enjoyed long spells of sunshine Overnight, staying dry for lost of

:24:36. > :24:42.us with further spills of clearness with mist and fog but for most of

:24:43. > :24:48.us, not a cold night. We max just see rural spots dropping into single

:24:49. > :24:55.figures. The summer spoils this `` solstice, looking very summdrlike

:24:56. > :25:04.with high pressure in chargd. Lots of sunshine meaning areas of
