:01:07. > :01:08.former serviceman, he would get more help in London. What he found

:02:48. > :02:49.Corrie McKeague is planning to answer questions from the public

:03:01. > :03:03.is being given equipment that is no Next term, students at Stopsley High

:03:04. > :03:09.are moving into new buildings. Today volunteers started

:03:10. > :03:13.dismantling the old furniture, which will be shipped

:03:14. > :03:29.to Sierra Leone in the New Year. This is recycling on a whole new

:03:30. > :03:32.level. The high school moves to new premises in January, and the old

:03:33. > :03:35.buildings are being demolished, but the fixtures and fittings will be

:03:36. > :03:40.saved and shipped out to West Africa. Doors, desks, chairs,

:03:41. > :03:44.fridges, air conditioning units, even toilets, we'll all be used to

:03:45. > :03:47.equip a brand-new school. I think it is going to be good,

:03:48. > :03:52.because although we have the equipment and we take it for

:03:53. > :03:55.granted, it would be a really good thing for them to have.

:03:56. > :04:02.And these are people who don't have a lot. Here in C airily own, they

:04:03. > :04:05.lived largely in slums, in a country decimated by ebola. -- Sierra Leone.

:04:06. > :04:10.But now a charity is helping them rebuild their lives. The new school

:04:11. > :04:14.will be part of a new village with 300 houses, a health centre, and a

:04:15. > :04:18.bakery using this recycled kitchen. Out of an old school comes a new

:04:19. > :04:22.school which will literally transform the lives of so many

:04:23. > :04:26.children. These are the people who are the poorest on earth, and we, by

:04:27. > :04:32.using what we are only going to throw into landfill, we can build

:04:33. > :04:37.and provide facilities and training programmes and really help people.

:04:38. > :04:41.They are even talking about the students getting involved afterwards

:04:42. > :04:45.to see what has happened with the old bits of the school and where the

:04:46. > :04:48.school has gone to, and what they are doing with it. I just think it

:04:49. > :04:51.is fantastic. The charity is now asking for

:04:52. > :04:53.volunteers to help over the next week. The equipment will then be

:04:54. > :04:56.shipped out in the New Year. More than ?100,000 has been secured

:04:57. > :04:59.to save an historic pier in Suffolk. Shotley Railway Pier

:05:00. > :05:03.was built 122 years ago. Now a local heritage group hope

:05:04. > :05:07.to buy and restore it. People eager to own a part

:05:08. > :05:10.of the pier will buy shares in it, and a charitable trust has agreed

:05:11. > :05:17.to match-fund the money raised. Maritime history

:05:18. > :05:20.falling into disrepair. Built in 1894, Shotley Pier,

:05:21. > :05:25.also known as Bristol Pier, was the backdrop to a dramatic

:05:26. > :05:30.German U-boat fleet surrender Built by the Marquis of Bristol,

:05:31. > :05:36.it was originally a Victorian toll pier where they charged passengers

:05:37. > :05:40.a penny to cross to Felixstowe The Royal Navy's HMS Ganges training

:05:41. > :05:45.ship and centre were based at Shotley to train thousands

:05:46. > :05:48.of young naval ratings On a day like this at low tide

:05:49. > :05:57.when it looks muddy, it doesn't look very exciting,

:05:58. > :06:00.but when the tide is in, or even And the stories that people have

:06:01. > :06:04.given me about falling in love with their wife or coming and doing

:06:05. > :06:08.a bit of fishing, a bit of night fishing, going over

:06:09. > :06:10.to Harwich and having a day In recent years, the pier hasn't

:06:11. > :06:14.made its auction reserve. That has prompted

:06:15. > :06:17.locals to take action. They are raising ?100,000 to buy it

:06:18. > :06:21.and ?300,000 to restore it and make We would love to see

:06:22. > :06:27.the pier restored. We could embark and disembark

:06:28. > :06:31.passengers here, we could lay barges overnight, and of course the barges

:06:32. > :06:35.are a major part of this It's a big part of my childhood

:06:36. > :06:39.and it's a big part of everybody We throw money away

:06:40. > :06:44.on stupid things. Let's throw some money at something

:06:45. > :06:47.that's worth throwing it at. All going well, the pier will be

:06:48. > :06:49.bought and the restoration work underway by spring,

:06:50. > :06:51.and it should be open for moorings, crabbing

:06:52. > :07:04.and fishing by next Christmas. Let's take a look at the weather

:07:05. > :07:08.now. Thank you. Good evening. It is another cold

:07:09. > :07:12.evening and night across the region, with freezing fog patches becoming

:07:13. > :07:15.widespread and locally quite dance through the night. Temperature wise,

:07:16. > :07:21.we could be several degrees before freezing before the night is out,

:07:22. > :07:23.down 2-4 or minus five Celsius. Some of this mist and fog will be a

:07:24. > :07:27.problem clearing through tomorrow morning, and for some of us, it may

:07:28. > :07:32.linger through most of the day, affecting temperatures, so around

:07:33. > :07:36.three Celsius as a high. In some areas, it will then break and we

:07:37. > :07:43.will see some perhaps 5-7 did grease with a light wind. Cloudy picture

:07:44. > :07:46.through to the weekend. Temperatures will lift slightly through to the

:07:47. > :07:52.weekend with a slight push of air, so there will be a sharp frost might

:07:53. > :07:52.and tomorrow night, lifting so there were ever so

:07:53. > :07:53.and tomorrow night, lifting so there were ever so slightly.

:07:54. > :07:54.Thank you very much. That's all from me, but I'll be

:07:55. > :07:57.back just after 10.30 In the meantime, have

:07:58. > :08:32.a very good evening. Good evening, the weather is proving

:08:33. > :08:33.hazardous and
