:00:16. > :00:16.Hello. news where you are.

:00:17. > :00:17.A warning tonight from our hospitals.

:00:18. > :00:20.Please don't go to accident and emergency unless your

:00:21. > :00:23.Many are struggling to cope with a high number of older patients

:00:24. > :00:27.and they are worried the situation will only get worse over New Year.

:00:28. > :00:29.There has also been a record demand for ambulances over Christmas.

:00:30. > :00:33.When the hospital says don't come to accident and emergency

:00:34. > :00:35.unless your condition is life or limb threatening,

:00:36. > :00:40.All beds here at the James Paget near Great Yarmouth are full.

:00:41. > :00:45.at A are having to wait up to five hours to be seen.

:00:46. > :00:48.Our staff are working relentlessly

:00:49. > :00:52.under extreme pressure to provide safe patient care.

:00:53. > :00:54.And are you able to keep up with that?

:00:55. > :00:58.we have to do the right thing for our patients.

:00:59. > :01:05.Northampton has no spare beds, Addenbrooke's and Cambridge says

:01:06. > :01:09.it's treating many older patients and the Lister in Stevenage,

:01:10. > :01:12.like many hospitals, is extremely busy.

:01:13. > :01:14.But this year we've seen another factor, Christmas Day

:01:15. > :01:18.and New Year's Day both full on Sundays which means

:01:19. > :01:23.that effectively we have got two bank holiday weekends back to back

:01:24. > :01:28.and that also has consequences for the wider health care system.

:01:29. > :01:31.It means more perhaps look to the emergency services

:01:32. > :01:33.rather than their family doctor when they fall ill.

:01:34. > :01:35.The region's Ambulance Service has seen

:01:36. > :01:37.a record-breaking rise in 999 calls this Christmas.

:01:38. > :01:42.Between 7pm on Christmas Eve and 11pm on Boxing Day,

:01:43. > :01:45.the service received almost 7000 calls,

:01:46. > :01:47.up from just over 6000 the previous year.

:01:48. > :01:51.The reason for the increase isn't clear.

:01:52. > :01:53.Our crews are working 12-hour days and often

:01:54. > :01:56.they're going from one patient to another patient to another patient

:01:57. > :02:02.and then to a hospital and then to another patient and it's

:02:03. > :02:04.The message from paramedics and hospital

:02:05. > :02:06.doctors, make your GP, your local pharmacy,

:02:07. > :02:09.your first point of contact if you fall ill.

:02:10. > :02:12.Because the next few days will be a huge challenge

:02:13. > :02:14.for those on health care's emergency front line.

:02:15. > :02:21.Hundreds of people gathered on the beach in Leigh on Sea last

:02:22. > :02:24.night to remember two teenagers who died in a car crash on Tuesday.

:02:25. > :02:27.Paper lanterns and balloons were released and fireworks set off.

:02:28. > :02:31.Reegan Knight and Liam Phillips were both 17 years old.

:02:32. > :02:34.Southend United football club is also planning a tribute

:02:35. > :02:42.I feel devastated, one of my close mates is not here any more.

:02:43. > :02:46.I can't speak to him but I just want to give him

:02:47. > :02:50.this lovely sendoff so he knows up there that we are looking out

:02:51. > :02:54.A man has been arrested in connection with a burglary

:02:55. > :02:57.in which police officers were threatened.

:02:58. > :03:00.It happened in Wivenhoe on December the 13th when police

:03:01. > :03:05.A 24-year-old man from Colchester has been arrested on suspicion

:03:06. > :03:13.of aggravated burglary and possession of firearms.

:03:14. > :03:15.House prices in Luton are rising faster than anywhere else

:03:16. > :03:20.They've gone up by nearly 20% in the last year,

:03:21. > :03:21.making it the biggest proportional increase.

:03:22. > :03:23.The average price of a house in Luton

:03:24. > :03:36.The Norwich City manager Alex Neil has refused to comment on a report

:03:37. > :03:39.in the Sun newspaper that he will get ?2 million if he is sacked.

:03:40. > :03:41.With eight defeats in the last ten league matches,

:03:42. > :03:47.Very little is going right for Alex Neil just

:03:48. > :03:51.at the moment and the last thing he needed was to find his name

:03:52. > :03:53.and that of his chairman Ed Balls on the back page

:03:54. > :04:01.The paper claims Neil will get ?2 million if he gets sacked.

:04:02. > :04:04.The man himself wouldn't confirm or deny that.

:04:05. > :04:07.It's like anything else, I've never sat here and spoke about

:04:08. > :04:09.players' contracts and different things like that

:04:10. > :04:12.so I'm not going to sit here and speak about my contract

:04:13. > :04:17.Despite relegation from the Premier League last year,

:04:18. > :04:24.But eight defeats in the last ten League matches this season

:04:25. > :04:31.So, can the Canaries afford to sack him now?

:04:32. > :04:34.It's much more important that Norwich try and get back to the

:04:35. > :04:37.Premier League than it is maybe to have to pay a manager

:04:38. > :04:39.what he's owed, it's as simple as that.

:04:40. > :04:41.Because it would cost a lot more to stay in

:04:42. > :04:44.the Championship or even worse, as we've seen with Norwich

:04:45. > :04:46.in the past, to go down another league than it is

:04:47. > :04:49.to maybe change the manager and it's a case of how long

:04:50. > :04:55.Contrary to suggestions in the local media,

:04:56. > :04:58.I don't bury my head in the sand.

:04:59. > :05:00.I know exactly where we are, what's gone on.

:05:01. > :05:03.I know that it's unacceptable and we need to do better.

:05:04. > :05:07.I can assure you I feel that more than anybody else.

:05:08. > :05:10.Mainly because I'm a winner, I want to win games,

:05:11. > :05:16.Brentford tomorrow, Derby at Carrow Road on Monday.

:05:17. > :05:20.Two wins and the pressure eases but if the results go against

:05:21. > :05:25.the Canaries, it's unlikely to be a happy New Year for Alex Neil.

:05:26. > :05:30.Mike Liggins, BBC Look East, at the Norwich City training ground.

:05:31. > :05:33.And two of our teams are in action tonight.

:05:34. > :05:36.Ipswich are at home to Bristol City and MK Dons are also

:05:37. > :05:45.Now time for a look at the weather with Dan.

:05:46. > :05:50.Mist and fog causing some problems across the region today. Poor

:05:51. > :05:55.visibility but not everywhere. We have seen some sunshine as well.

:05:56. > :05:58.This is one of our pictures. One of the lucky few that saw a glimpse of

:05:59. > :06:05.blue sky through because of the day. I probably can't hear. But for many,

:06:06. > :06:11.a lot of locale, mist fog. If you're driving this evening, Met Office

:06:12. > :06:19.warning that the dense fog with visibility below a hundred in

:06:20. > :06:23.favours. -- not for many here. Perhaps just the thing a little bit

:06:24. > :06:26.towards the north-west of the region tonight, temperatures or maybe just

:06:27. > :06:31.above freezing but locally, if you get a gap in the car, down 2-1 minus

:06:32. > :06:37.two Celsius. Patchy frost here now. Not as cold as last night. A lot of

:06:38. > :06:40.cloud tomorrow, mist and fog lifting to the day tomorrow so improving on

:06:41. > :06:44.today with a bit of rain is here and there for the afternoon. The breeze

:06:45. > :06:51.picking up as well, highs to seven to nine Celsius. Tomorrow evening,

:06:52. > :06:56.as we run up towards midnight, not a lot changing, the breeze will pick

:06:57. > :06:59.up, mostly dry, the odd spot of impossible and temperatures should

:07:00. > :07:03.be around six or seven Celsius. Quite master this time of the year.

:07:04. > :07:07.It is all change as we go into the New Year, a band of rain stinking

:07:08. > :07:12.south towards the morning on New Year's Day, healthy buzz of rain.

:07:13. > :07:22.Bit of uncertainty of how quickly the rain clears. It might turn

:07:23. > :07:25.sweetie on the back edge. Sunday, looking quite wet through the

:07:26. > :07:29.morning but mild as the rain" it will turn colder do because of the

:07:30. > :07:33.afternoon. Hopefully something a little bit brighter later on in the

:07:34. > :07:37.day. A cold frosty night to follow into Monday morning, the bank

:07:38. > :07:41.holiday. Both Monday and Tuesday mainly dry days but cold with some

:07:42. > :07:44.sunshine, chilly overnight, sharp frost on Monday night and parts of

:07:45. > :07:50.Norfolk and Suffolk might see a wintry showers feeding in from the

:07:51. > :07:53.North Sea. Thank you very much. That is it from me for this year. I will

:07:54. > :08:07.see you next year. Have a happy New Year.

:08:08. > :08:14.Good evening, fog has been a problem in recent days, slow changes over

:08:15. > :08:19.the next 48 hours or so as this weather front moves south bringing

:08:20. > :08:23.rain and behind it, much cleaner, cold arctic air which will sweep

:08:24. > :08:27.that fog out of the way. The fog was dense in places, you could hardly

:08:28. > :08:31.see across the Thames in Kingston, Greater London this afternoon. It

:08:32. > :08:37.has been thickening up in the last few hours and if you are on the move

:08:38. > :08:38.in the next few hours, into the morning, state shoes and two
