:03:30. > :03:40.has today denied sexually assaulting and raping a 17-year-old girl

:03:41. > :03:43.while he was on duty. It's alleged that 28-year-old PC

:03:44. > :03:48.Declan Gabriel carried out the attacks in two lay-bys

:03:49. > :03:50.in Northampton in September 2015. PC Gabriel claims the teenager

:03:51. > :04:09.sexually assaulted him. In the early hours of the 21st of

:04:10. > :04:13.September 2015 BC Declan Gabriel was called to an address in Northampton

:04:14. > :04:18.were a 17-year-old girl had been thrown out of her home by her

:04:19. > :04:22.mother. PC Gabriel then took the teenager in his car to a police

:04:23. > :04:26.station before setting off on another journey to find her

:04:27. > :04:30.somewhere to stay. The teenager alleges he then stopped in a lay-by

:04:31. > :04:36.where he sexually assaulted her and then drove to another lay-by near

:04:37. > :04:41.the crematorium where she claims the game sexually assaulted her before

:04:42. > :04:46.forcing her to perform a sex act on him. He admitted in court yet heard

:04:47. > :04:52.of his body camera at this time which would have made a video

:04:53. > :04:56.recording of his activities. This afternoon his defence barrister

:04:57. > :05:00.claimed the 17-year-old was an extraordinarily inconsistent with

:05:01. > :05:06.this and she had changed her account of what happened to her several

:05:07. > :05:11.times. PC Gabriel claimed it was in fact she was sexually assaulted

:05:12. > :05:16.heaven. When giving evidence PC Gabriel said he pulled into the

:05:17. > :05:23.lay-by to chat to the guild to find somewhere to stay and also said it

:05:24. > :05:29.was so he could keep an eye out for traffic offences. -- chat to the

:05:30. > :05:34.girl. He also said the reason he undone his belt and partially undone

:05:35. > :05:38.his trousers was because his underpants were uncomfortable. The

:05:39. > :05:40.judge will begin summing up on Monday morning.

:05:41. > :05:43.The boss of Peugeot has given assurances to unions

:05:44. > :05:45.and the Government that Vauxhall's Luton factory will see

:05:46. > :05:48.out their existing production runs, if a deal to buy the company

:05:49. > :05:51.He's been meeting ministers and union leaders today.

:05:52. > :05:54.Our political reporter Tom Barton is outside Vauxhall tonight.

:05:55. > :06:06.Tom does this mean the deal is definitely going ahead?

:06:07. > :06:13.Not necessarily, but there is a sense the events surrounding that

:06:14. > :06:18.bid for Vauxhall's parent company are gathering pace and we understand

:06:19. > :06:22.those involved wanted negotiations to conclude before the start of the

:06:23. > :06:29.Geneva motor show in a week or so. In the meantime their boss has been

:06:30. > :06:33.involved in discussions with both union leaders and politicians and on

:06:34. > :06:38.Wednesday he spoke to the Prime Minister and in that meeting

:06:39. > :06:42.promised to continue to develop the Vauxhall brand but did not make any

:06:43. > :06:51.specific comments about the site here in Luton. Today he met with the

:06:52. > :06:53.Unite union and after that they are general secretary Len McCluskey

:06:54. > :06:55.sounded reassured about what he had heard. -- they are general

:06:56. > :06:57.secretary. He seems to me like an individual

:06:58. > :07:01.who wants to try to resolve problems He was very pro-union

:07:02. > :07:04.and he talked in terms of not being here to shut plants,

:07:05. > :07:07.that is not his nature. He pointed out since he has

:07:08. > :07:09.been CEO of Peugeot he So I will take him at face value

:07:10. > :07:31.at the moment and hope I am not After that meeting with the trade

:07:32. > :07:34.union the Peugeot boss went on to meet the Business Secretary Greg

:07:35. > :07:39.Clark and in that meeting he promised that if this deal goes

:07:40. > :07:45.ahead Vauxhall's pensioners would not suffer and he said he did not

:07:46. > :07:50.plan on closing any clients. A glimmer of hope, perhaps, but

:07:51. > :07:54.certainly still be worrying time. -- closing doors plants. -- those

:07:55. > :07:55.plants. Next tonight - the increasing abuse

:07:56. > :08:04.and violence faced by workers Workers in Cambridgeshire have told

:08:05. > :08:08.us they say face daily verbal abuse The problem has become so bad that

:08:09. > :08:12.many are having to be armed with body cameras to try to catch

:08:13. > :08:15.those attacking them I was kind of thinking,

:08:16. > :08:19.is he going to run me over or not? Especially if they are

:08:20. > :08:23.really aggressive and threatening to run you over or they

:08:24. > :08:26.have got equipment in their hands. Mick Martin, who has

:08:27. > :08:29.worked the roads for It's a problem that

:08:30. > :08:34.has got so bad road workers are now wearing body cameras

:08:35. > :08:37.to gather evidence of attacks. One of my colleagues has been

:08:38. > :08:44.threatened to be stabbed before, cars driving at us, having to jump

:08:45. > :08:48.out the way of cars, going through cones, running signs

:08:49. > :08:49.down, all sorts. 30 years ago people were a bit more

:08:50. > :08:52.patient and things like that but nowadays they do not

:08:53. > :08:56.want to be held up or to wait or We've already heard people

:08:57. > :08:58.being verbally abused today but there is a real concern

:08:59. > :09:02.about the growing number of physical It is not acceptable

:09:03. > :09:05.for somebody working on the road to be abused any more

:09:06. > :09:08.than someone working in an office. It is their environment

:09:09. > :09:11.and they are trying to maintain the roads

:09:12. > :09:13.and provide a good travelling

:09:14. > :09:21.journey for the public. The problem is people

:09:22. > :09:23.have developed a sort of Today the Cambridge MP and Shadow

:09:24. > :09:30.Transport Secretary called for I was taken aback when it

:09:31. > :09:35.was explained to me how often this occurs, and talking

:09:36. > :09:40.to some of the guys here today, verbal abuse

:09:41. > :09:43.is a regular feature of their life and it

:09:44. > :09:46.really should not be. If people abuse road

:09:47. > :09:48.workers in this way they We will begin to look

:09:49. > :09:52.at the if we can consider introducing penalties,

:09:53. > :09:54.possibly points on people's licence if they

:09:55. > :10:00.behave really badly. But it's much better that

:10:01. > :10:03.people just behave well. For Mick and his team it is not just

:10:04. > :10:06.about fixing the roads, it is about Very intimidating

:10:07. > :10:09.and you just have to try and back off as much as you can

:10:10. > :10:13.and not encourage them to keep approaching you and just say

:10:14. > :10:16.to them, "Calm down. "You cannot go through,

:10:17. > :10:17.unfortunately." As roads get busier

:10:18. > :10:25.and more congested drivers will need to learn how

:10:26. > :10:33.to curb their anger. Well, earlier I spoke

:10:34. > :10:35.to Diane Stevens, a specialist in anger management and asked her

:10:36. > :10:38.if she's surprised at the level I think it is horrifying the levels

:10:39. > :10:44.of abuse road workers are suffering and it is a growing problem

:10:45. > :10:48.in different areas and I think anger generally is growing in society due

:10:49. > :10:51.to the level of stress and the fast lives we live and the need

:10:52. > :10:53.to get everywhere quickly. But the idea of people being abused

:10:54. > :10:57.so you can get somewhere and time Is there anything we can do

:10:58. > :11:03.to prevent this happening? It is all very well giving road

:11:04. > :11:06.workers cameras to record abuse, but should they we not be giving

:11:07. > :11:08.people techniques to Yes, people should be taking

:11:09. > :11:11.responsibility for their own stress and anger and it is unfortunate lot

:11:12. > :11:18.of us who have stressful lifestyles take that into the car and use

:11:19. > :11:22.the car to try and manage that. Unfortunately we can see

:11:23. > :11:24.the uniform, a roadworker, if you like, and we can aim it

:11:25. > :11:27.at that and depersonalise that, so somehow it feels as if it is OK

:11:28. > :11:31.to have a rant at somebody who is just going about their daily

:11:32. > :11:33.business, as we are, and going home to families and doing

:11:34. > :11:37.the same things we are in evening, but they are going home taking that

:11:38. > :11:39.stress of everyone else Do you find also people

:11:40. > :11:49.are going for soft targets? Clearly it is not the road workers'

:11:50. > :11:53.fault if people are being held up. Do you find people are

:11:54. > :11:55.deflecting their anger in this I think people are carrying

:11:56. > :11:59.stress through work, through meeting targets,

:12:00. > :12:01.getting to different places Yes, it is easy to throw and hurl

:12:02. > :12:06.an insult than it is to say to your boss, "I have too much on,

:12:07. > :12:09.I can't manage it this." What do you think the main reasons

:12:10. > :12:12.are behind the level of anger people are experiencing in society

:12:13. > :12:14.at the moment? We are a faster moving society

:12:15. > :12:18.nowadays and expectations are very high and when we hit a situation

:12:19. > :12:21.like roadworks, for example, where we cannot do anything

:12:22. > :12:23.about it, we cannot press a button and get out of it, we have two

:12:24. > :12:26.sit and have patience, and patience is not something

:12:27. > :12:44.we generally have Surely will be here with what the

:12:45. > :12:48.weather forecast and hopefully a calmer weekend at first it is time

:12:49. > :12:52.to hang you back to Stuart and Susie in Norwich.

:12:53. > :12:54.Julie is here with the weekend weather.

:12:55. > :12:57.We've got all the build-up to Sunday's big derby game

:12:58. > :13:00.And the church that's found a treasure it feared

:13:01. > :13:11.Now the story of a young skater whose sporting

:13:12. > :13:13.Eloise Carruthers from Chelmsford

:13:14. > :13:15.has been chosen to represent Great Britain

:13:16. > :13:22.She started skating five years ago and it has changed her life.

:13:23. > :13:25.When she heard she was going to Austria next month,

:13:26. > :13:40.When Eloise Carruthers puts on a pair of skates, something happens.

:13:41. > :13:48.And apparently shy teenager is transformed.

:13:49. > :13:56.And the calms all consumed by her passion for ice skating.

:13:57. > :14:01.-- and she becomes all consumed. She only started skating five years

:14:02. > :14:07.ago. Her sister didn't enjoy it much but Eloise found it made her happy.

:14:08. > :14:11.Most surprised, then, that she has gone from strength to strength.

:14:12. > :14:15.In school and at home, my mind is different.

:14:16. > :14:19.But when I am at the rink, it is completely different, how happy I am

:14:20. > :14:22.at the rink. Last year she took first prize at an

:14:23. > :14:27.international tournament and was elected to represent Team GB at next

:14:28. > :14:30.month's Special Olympics Winter Games in Austria.

:14:31. > :14:35.Under the watchful eye of Katie her coach, it is a gruelling training

:14:36. > :14:39.regime, five times a week with 5:30am starts in the morning.

:14:40. > :14:43.It seems like you don't have to put any effort in but when you are

:14:44. > :14:50.constantly doing jumps, spins, going the next element, turn steps, jumps,

:14:51. > :14:55.you are physically, your heart is literally like that the whole time.

:14:56. > :14:58.Doing two minutes of a programme full of music, you continue

:14:59. > :15:04.knackered after two and a half minutes.

:15:05. > :15:09.This is what she can expect. Eloise is the youngest of ten skaters in

:15:10. > :15:15.the GB squad. A dream? Well, there are many.

:15:16. > :15:21.Probably to meet Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean, or Gracie Gold. I

:15:22. > :15:26.have already met Robin Cousins. And Gary Beacon. They are both

:15:27. > :15:30.skaters. For her parents, it is a huge commitment but the then there

:15:31. > :15:36.is little doubt this graph -- the sacrifices have been worth it.

:15:37. > :15:39.Huge proud. The sheer hard work and dedication she puts in, it is great

:15:40. > :15:44.for her as an individual. You have got to have some nerve to

:15:45. > :15:46.launch your body up in the air, it is not a natural thing for anyone to

:15:47. > :15:51.do. She leaves for Austria in a few

:15:52. > :15:55.weeks for a trip of a lifetime. Just getting this far made her cry with

:15:56. > :16:04.joy. Just imagine what will happen if she wins a medal.

:16:05. > :16:07.Isn't she fantastic? Wonderful, really good luck, Eloise.

:16:08. > :16:12.The East Anglian derby at Carrow Road.

:16:13. > :16:16.Yes, all eyes are on Norwich-Ipswich on Sunday at midday.

:16:17. > :16:18.The Canaries have been on top in recent years,

:16:19. > :16:27.Overall, in 110 competitive fixtures, it's 45 wins apiece.

:16:28. > :16:32.So, we asked two former players and club legends Darren Eadie

:16:33. > :16:34.and James Scowcroft to tell us who'll win, why it matters,

:16:35. > :16:48.Your best Derby moment? Best Derby moment? One that sticks out more

:16:49. > :16:53.than anything, the finalists Bryan Gunn famous own goal.

:16:54. > :17:00.1996, 21 years ago. Mine is scoring against you at Carrow Road, from the

:17:01. > :17:05.right, the old chocolate leg. So many. We never lost a Derby at home.

:17:06. > :17:11.Not since I played. No, never. Happy Days.

:17:12. > :17:16.Great when you win. I don't think you will beat the Bryan Gunn moment.

:17:17. > :17:21.After you. Who is the pride of East and you?

:17:22. > :17:26.There is only one answer. You would have to admit that at the moment. As

:17:27. > :17:31.much as you are passionate about your club. Norwich have outperformed

:17:32. > :17:35.Ipswich for the last ten... Second favourites to get promoted

:17:36. > :17:41.this season, mid-table now, eighth in the league, not going up.

:17:42. > :17:44.I would say Norwich have massively underachieved.

:17:45. > :17:51.And ipswich have massively over achieved!

:17:52. > :17:57.Next one. 44 miles apart, is the East Anglian derby overrated?

:17:58. > :18:04.Not at all. I think it is to really good football clubs, it goes back

:18:05. > :18:06.generations. I go back, I live close to the Norfolk- Suffolk border, a

:18:07. > :18:11.big game. People sometimes think they lose

:18:12. > :18:16.sight of it. One time at Carrow Road, we went out together I pushed

:18:17. > :18:20.you against the wall. For everyone, it is the one fixture

:18:21. > :18:28.you look for. Which teams are under most pressure?

:18:29. > :18:32.I have to admit it is Norwich, they have two after their decent run of

:18:33. > :18:36.results, it will spell, then back on track. Losing a to Burton has put

:18:37. > :18:41.them a step back again. Seven points between them and the play-offs.

:18:42. > :18:46.I would say there is little pressure for Ipswich, they are in a good

:18:47. > :18:50.place. A nice little run. Without being too disrespects full,

:18:51. > :18:54.probably the worst Ipswich side I have seen in a while.

:18:55. > :19:00.That is being harsh! The last question.

:19:01. > :19:03.Who is going to win? Honestly, come on. I will be honest.

:19:04. > :19:09.Ipswich have their best opportunity for a long time. Thom Lawrence is a

:19:10. > :19:13.massive mess. If they had him I would be confident Ipswich with

:19:14. > :19:16.them. I don't think ipswich will lose.

:19:17. > :19:20.Shall we take a draw now? Norwich are going to win 3-0!

:19:21. > :19:23.I disagree! Thank you to both.

:19:24. > :19:28.Ipswich have only lost once in six matches.

:19:29. > :19:32.Norwich go into it in eighth, seven points off the play-offs.

:19:33. > :19:38.perhaps less important than the bragging rights.

:19:39. > :19:46.If they've got to have any chance of getting the points, seven points

:19:47. > :19:53.They pretty much are going to have to win a load of games.

:19:54. > :19:55.It's got to be starting with us on Sunday

:19:56. > :19:58.We'll do our darnedest to stop them, of course.

:19:59. > :20:05.But equally we have been in good form at home.

:20:06. > :20:07.And I would expect us to go and attack the match

:20:08. > :20:13.-- and hopefully, come away with the points.

:20:14. > :20:16.Southend have crept up into the play-offs.

:20:17. > :20:18.They're going for a fifth win in eight games at Gillingham.

:20:19. > :20:21.Tomorrow, League Two promotion rivals Plymouth.

:20:22. > :20:24.Then Oxford on Wednesday for a place at Wembley

:20:25. > :20:28.Three Northampton players are in the England team

:20:29. > :20:30.to face Italy on Sunday in the Six Nations

:20:31. > :20:34.Meanwhile, another busy week for Saints with the chairman

:20:35. > :20:35.and chief executive announcing they're leaving.

:20:36. > :20:37.But 11 players have signed new contracts ahead of tomorrow's

:20:38. > :20:42.It has been a rough, tough season here at Franklin Gardens but this

:20:43. > :20:45.week came a noted response and a changing of the guard

:20:46. > :20:47.because the chairman and chief executive have announced

:20:48. > :20:49.they will leave at the end of the season.

:20:50. > :20:52.The hunt for a new assistant coach is over.

:20:53. > :20:54.Phil Dowson arrives back from Worcester.

:20:55. > :20:57.Today, 11 players have re-signed including Christian Day

:20:58. > :21:01.And yet the hunt for a world-class fly half continues,

:21:02. > :21:09.Signing the world's best is proving harder.

:21:10. > :21:16.The club have also announced ?1 million of extra funding
