:00:00. > :00:00.In Look East tonight: A cyber crime wave as more of us fall for scams,
:00:00. > :00:00.police look for new ways to tackle it.
:00:07. > :00:19.Vacancies go unfilled amid warnings of bigger class sizes.
:00:20. > :00:23.Handful baking dish and is with the risk of ice, I have all the details
:00:24. > :00:26.later. More and more of us
:00:27. > :00:30.are falling for scams online - with Cybercrime costing the UK
:00:31. > :00:32.economy billions of pounds. Police forces in Bedfordshire
:00:33. > :00:37.and Cambridgeshire have reported huge rises in the number of cases
:00:38. > :00:39.in the past year. Anna Todd has been finding
:00:40. > :00:41.out how the criminals operate and who's
:00:42. > :00:45.is most vulnerable. The internet has helped this small
:00:46. > :00:48.company go from strength to strength, but it has also had
:00:49. > :00:52.a more sinister impact. Cybercriminals sent
:00:53. > :00:55.an e-mail purporting to be from the MD, asking an employee
:00:56. > :00:59.to make a bank transfer. And she said to me, I have
:01:00. > :01:02.done the transaction you have asked me to do, but they
:01:03. > :01:05.asked for a long reference number and I couldn't fit it
:01:06. > :01:08.all in, so I condensed the reference number
:01:09. > :01:09.and it was that point, I said,
:01:10. > :01:11.what are you talking about? At that point, obviously,
:01:12. > :01:14.she went white and I did the same, we called
:01:15. > :01:18.the bank straightaway. In Bedfordshire in 2015,
:01:19. > :01:27.almost 1200 were reported. They were 370 reports
:01:28. > :01:46.the following year. They target both randomly
:01:47. > :01:49.and specifically. One method is ransomware,
:01:50. > :01:51.where victims believe they have to pay a fine,
:01:52. > :01:54.perhaps to a seemingly legitimate It is possible that big
:01:55. > :02:02.organisations are now treating this type of ransomware as the cost
:02:03. > :02:04.of doing business, and if you consider that the average
:02:05. > :02:07.amount they are paying out is around ?13,000,
:02:08. > :02:09.for big organisations it could be ?25,000, this is
:02:10. > :02:23.clearly a big problem. Police nationwide say this
:02:24. > :02:25.is a modern-day crime. We have recently held
:02:26. > :02:26.a conference with a crime unit who have got departments
:02:27. > :02:29.specifically dedicated to But some of their stats
:02:30. > :02:32.are really worrying. They said they had seen over
:02:33. > :02:34.2000 hacks on Eastern region companies this month, and
:02:35. > :02:37.that is probably not all of them, because a lot of them
:02:38. > :02:44.will not have been reported. This Cambridgeshire
:02:45. > :02:46.company was lucky. But they say that the criminals
:02:47. > :02:50.continue to try their luck So what can be done to stay one step
:02:51. > :03:00.ahead of the hackers? Well our reporter Waseem Mirza has
:03:01. > :03:02.been looking at the problem Well tonight, cyber crime experts
:03:03. > :03:07.from across the region have been meeting in Cambridge to try
:03:08. > :03:10.and find news ways of We spoke to the Police
:03:11. > :03:13.and Crime Commissioner for Cambridgeshire Jason Ablewhite
:03:14. > :03:24.who said the figures are just We are driving this agenda forward,
:03:25. > :03:29.we are getting those key messages out on how people can protect
:03:30. > :03:34.themselves by all of the sort of methods that we use all the time,
:03:35. > :03:40.and frankly I think going forward this is going to be seen as probably
:03:41. > :03:42.the biggest growth in any crime in a generation.
:03:43. > :03:45.When it comes to fighting back - there is the feeling that perhaps
:03:46. > :03:47.it's not just technology alone that could eliminate the problem.
:03:48. > :03:49.There are those like the Bedfordshire based
:03:50. > :03:51.security group Layer8 - who believe people are the best form
:03:52. > :03:57.of defence against hackers and online attacks.
:03:58. > :04:06.To keep up with these vulnerabilities what we need to do
:04:07. > :04:10.is educate on the types of emotions that perhaps the tactics will play
:04:11. > :04:11.to give people the ability to deal with any kind of crime that comes
:04:12. > :04:12.their way. Well there's a number
:04:13. > :04:15.of things which can be done Start by changing your password
:04:16. > :04:17.every one to two months. Use a completely different
:04:18. > :04:20.password for every website you shop, Enable what's called
:04:21. > :04:22."2-step verification". It's like having another layer
:04:23. > :04:26.on top of your password. Make sure you never
:04:27. > :04:29.reveal your password to anyone. And strengthen your existing
:04:30. > :04:31.password with special characters Now you can get more advice
:04:32. > :04:42.on all this and more That's the warning from some
:04:43. > :04:53.Northamptonshire Headteachers. in the county since 2010,
:04:54. > :05:20.but the number of teachers Emma is a trainee, teaching others
:05:21. > :05:24.by cloning herself. Not enough other people want to do what she is doing.
:05:25. > :05:28.I think it is probably one of the most rewarding and challenging
:05:29. > :05:32.professions there is that it is definitely worth it, if you're
:05:33. > :05:37.willing to commit, give a lot of time to something you love then it
:05:38. > :05:40.is something you should consider. Head teachers say they are
:05:41. > :05:44.struggling to recruit and that is causing some to worry about the
:05:45. > :05:48.future. We may not have a teacher for a class of students and you may
:05:49. > :05:52.have to think very carefully about how you arrange that, it might be
:05:53. > :05:58.having to have larger class sizes, it might be the headteachers
:05:59. > :06:02.teaching for part of that and just things around that. I hope it will
:06:03. > :06:06.not happen. Try and stop it happening today but in to ensure
:06:07. > :06:12.candy cans or wants the promotional video and website to attract more
:06:13. > :06:15.people to the profession. There are currently 84 teacher vacancies in
:06:16. > :06:18.Northamptonshire for classrooms like this but the county council say that
:06:19. > :06:23.because of a growing population over the next five years 33 new schools
:06:24. > :06:28.will be needed and that is hundreds more teachers. We are working very
:06:29. > :06:33.hard to promote the best of what we have here, we have good quality
:06:34. > :06:37.housing, relatively low-cost compare to the south-east for example. We
:06:38. > :06:44.have a fantastic cultural offer and excellent tones are working hard to
:06:45. > :06:46.develop what they offer. The stakes are high, at the school in
:06:47. > :06:51.Wellingborough they have previously advertised one teaching job and
:06:52. > :06:53.doubly applied. Yellow might if I am being honest I think that the job is
:06:54. > :06:57.incredibly challenging, it is very incredibly challenging, it is very
:06:58. > :07:02.hard work, I have seen my young teachers particularly working long
:07:03. > :07:06.hours, all teachers work long hours but actually there isn't an
:07:07. > :07:11.appreciation amongst a lot of the public on how demanding the role is.
:07:12. > :07:15.It is a commitment, you have to be prepared to work late nights and on
:07:16. > :07:18.Sundays, have to be prepared to do lots of different things for the
:07:19. > :07:20.school and if you have that commitment and that drive and
:07:21. > :07:26.especially if you have the passion for your subject then you absolutely
:07:27. > :07:29.love it. More people will now have to learn to love teaching if the
:07:30. > :07:32.growing number of classrooms are going to be filled.
:07:33. > :07:35.Next, as part of our series celebrating 50 years
:07:36. > :07:37.of Milton Keynes, today we're looking at its vibrant arts scene -
:07:38. > :07:40.as the town bids to become the European Capital
:07:41. > :07:57.Around the many corners of Milton Keynes we will find public statues
:07:58. > :08:02.and food Subs: -- fluid sculptors, like this horse standing outside a
:08:03. > :08:04.bank with the same logo. This is shopping centre installation
:08:05. > :08:08.celebrates the accessible art that has always been at the heart of the
:08:09. > :08:14.town. Art is always about thinking about what might come next, Milton

:08:35. > :08:38.pop royalty to Jazz royalty, Sir John Dankworth and Dame Cleo Laine
:08:39. > :08:44.founded the stables at live and on, a melting pot for all types of
:08:45. > :08:48.music. But they had plenty of Milton Keynes was about to be developed
:08:49. > :08:52.when they bought the real property. At first they were very all know we
:08:53. > :08:59.did not want this but then my dad really grew to love Milton Keynes
:09:00. > :09:03.and my mum, two, we have been very supportive of the stables and of
:09:04. > :09:08.course now the stables is a big touring venue. Stadium MK is also
:09:09. > :09:11.developing as a concert venue, future is thriving and MK gallery is
:09:12. > :09:13.undergoing a major expansion. The A6 in Northamptonshire
:09:14. > :09:15.will remain closed between Rothwell and Desborough until the end of
:09:16. > :09:17.February. The road was shut last week
:09:18. > :09:19.following the discovery Now Northamptonshire Highways
:09:20. > :09:22.say the issue is "more significant" than first thought,
:09:23. > :09:27.and poses a potential safety risk. A bit of football finally -
:09:28. > :09:29.and Peterborough United lost at Oldham Athletic
:09:30. > :09:32.in the Skybet League 1 tonight. The final score in the North West
:09:33. > :09:35.1-0 Oldham's winner a penalty They'll now play Yeovil Town
:09:36. > :09:48.in the quarter final of the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday
:09:49. > :09:52.the 7th of February. And more freezing temperature ahead
:09:53. > :09:54.tonight - so let's get the weather now with Alex,
:09:55. > :10:06.but from me and the rest Good evening, the visibility
:10:07. > :10:10.overnight with freezing fog patches around in the risk of ice also an
:10:11. > :10:14.untreated surfaces so local radio the place to go for updates through
:10:15. > :10:19.the rush hour tomorrow and there could be potentially some travel
:10:20. > :10:22.attraction. This file is likely to become quite expensive as we go
:10:23. > :10:26.through the night, most areas are likely to be affected. Temperatures
:10:27. > :10:30.will be a degree or two below freezing for many places, perhaps
:10:31. > :10:36.below in those frosty prone areas. We start the day on a cold frosty
:10:37. > :10:38.not, high-pressure starting to move eastwards but still a very cool
:10:39. > :10:42.picture across the region and compare it with the relatively it
:10:43. > :10:46.will be cloudy after tomorrow so it will feel colder. That missed and
:10:47. > :10:51.fog lifting through the morning into low-level clouds, perhaps just the
:10:52. > :10:55.odd bright spell through much of the day and it is expected to save other
:10:56. > :11:00.overcast with highs of 4 degrees. The National weather coming up that
:11:01. > :11:01.output, it will be a bitterly cold beer on Thursday, temperatures
:11:02. > :11:18.recovering by the end of the For all of us, it'll get colder and
:11:19. > :11:24.then milder again come the weekend. This shot taken earlier by a weather
:11:25. > :11:29.watcher in East Anglia. The fog becoming extensive over the next few
:11:30. > :11:34.hours in many south-eastern parts of England.
