:00:00. > :00:14.Bosses say the living wage is squeezing middle-earners.

:00:15. > :00:19.After a wintry weekend, some milder weather in the forecast for the week

:00:20. > :00:24.ahead. Anxiety, depression,

:00:25. > :00:27.personality disorders - mental health problems can develop

:00:28. > :00:30.in many ways. The challenge is how to treat

:00:31. > :00:33.a rising number of people arriving at the region's under-pressure A

:00:34. > :00:37.wanting psychiatric care. Last year more than 2000 people went

:00:38. > :00:41.to Luton and Dunstable's emergency department

:00:42. > :00:44.with mental health issues. More than 1100 arrived

:00:45. > :00:47.at Kettering's A But Northamptonshire is finding

:00:48. > :01:00.new places to provide mental health It usually gets a bit busier

:01:01. > :01:04.during the later part of the week - On patrol - Nathan, a psychiatric

:01:05. > :01:08.nurse, and Ashley, a PC. An emergency triage vehicle running

:01:09. > :01:10.in Northampton seven days, The aim, to treat people with mental

:01:11. > :01:16.health problems where they are, We help people who are sadly

:01:17. > :01:23.suicidal, people who have severe alcohol or drug problems,

:01:24. > :01:28.who have come into contact with the police for a variety

:01:29. > :01:32.of reasons, who the police really After suicidal thoughts,

:01:33. > :01:39.Duncan sought help from his doctor. After treatment, living

:01:40. > :01:41.at this crisis house, But beforehand, going to an A

:01:42. > :01:46.elsewhere in the country, After a long wait, I got

:01:47. > :01:53.to see a psychiatrist. He questioned me a lot,

:01:54. > :01:55.but at the end of it, made me feel like I didn't really

:01:56. > :01:58.need to be there. It was a busy accident and

:01:59. > :02:03.emergency, a lot of people there. He almost sort of convinced me that

:02:04. > :02:07.I shouldn't really be there. The crisis house, run

:02:08. > :02:14.by Northamptonshire's NHS Trust. There is an increase in access

:02:15. > :02:17.for services, but also, we've had more services,

:02:18. > :02:19.we've thought of doing things in different ways,

:02:20. > :02:22.which will increase access, which is a positive thing

:02:23. > :02:25.for our local community. And what we're doing with that

:02:26. > :02:28.increase in demand is looking at providing things in the community

:02:29. > :02:31.that are closer to people, meets their needs, where they are,

:02:32. > :02:35.rather than coming into hospital. And this service,

:02:36. > :02:38.new in Northampton - a crisis cafe, where people worried

:02:39. > :02:41.about their mental But funding for the cafe only

:02:42. > :02:50.lasting until March. We're very much, I think,

:02:51. > :02:55.at the prevention end of things, so, working with people before they get

:02:56. > :03:04.too far into a full-blown crisis. It's often a much more

:03:05. > :03:09.cost-effective alternative to come here than it would be to sit

:03:10. > :03:13.at accident and emergency. Depression, anxiety,

:03:14. > :03:16.personality disorders. Mental health problems

:03:17. > :03:19.appear in many guises. The challenge for an NHS under

:03:20. > :03:23.pressure is how and where to care The man on trial for murdering

:03:24. > :03:33.children's author Helen Bailey has been accused of basing his

:03:34. > :03:35.descriptions of her kidnappers on two friends -

:03:36. > :03:38.who were then brought Ian Stewart claims his fiancee

:03:39. > :03:43.was taken by two thugs He himself denies drugging

:03:44. > :03:47.and killing Helen, before hiding her body in a cesspit

:03:48. > :03:50.under their Royston home. Ian Stewart claims Helen Bailey

:03:51. > :03:57.was kidnapped and killed by two The court heard they were business

:03:58. > :04:03.associates of Helen's late And according to Ian Stewart,

:04:04. > :04:08.Joe had a foreign accent Today, two men also called Nick and

:04:09. > :04:14.Joe were brought before the court. The jury heard Nick Cook

:04:15. > :04:19.was Ian Stewart's former next-door neighbour from Bassingbourn,

:04:20. > :04:22.and that Joe Cippullo, who was Asked by prosecutor

:04:23. > :04:33.Stuart Trimmer... Helen Bailey's body was found

:04:34. > :04:50.in a cesspit under her home in Royston, along with her dog,

:04:51. > :04:52.Boris. They were discovered three

:04:53. > :04:54.months after she went Ian Stewart had claimed his fiancee

:04:55. > :05:00.left a note saying she needed time and space and had gone

:05:01. > :05:04.to her cottage in Broadstairs. The court heard there had been a sea

:05:05. > :05:08.change in Ian Stewart's account of events in December last year,

:05:09. > :05:11.when he first mentioned Mr Stewart told the court he had

:05:12. > :05:19.been protecting Helen and dog Boris. He said he was also concerned

:05:20. > :05:22.about the safety of his sons, Jamie and Oliver, and told the court

:05:23. > :05:26.the two men had Prosecutor Stuart Trimmer told

:05:27. > :05:32.Ian Stewart, "This is all fantasy." To which he replied,

:05:33. > :05:36."I wish it was, in many ways." Ian Stewart was asked why,

:05:37. > :05:40.when he was arrested, He said he'd been advised not

:05:41. > :05:45.to speak by his solicitor. He also said at times his mind

:05:46. > :05:48.was confused and he thought He said he was also worried

:05:49. > :05:52.about Helen and wanted to protect Put to him that this was all

:05:53. > :05:57.a figment of his imagination, Ian Stewart denies all

:05:58. > :06:01.the charges against him. A man's been found guilty of killing

:06:02. > :06:12.a traveller in Bedfordshire Patrick Maloney was killed

:06:13. > :06:17.at the Toddbury Farm travellers site in Little Billington

:06:18. > :06:19.near Leighton Buzzard 22-year-old Christopher McCarthy

:06:20. > :06:24.and his older brother Thomas drove into the site to fight Mr Maloney -

:06:25. > :06:28.but told Luton Crown Court Christopher McCarthy

:06:29. > :06:35.was convicted of manslaughter. The family of missing airman

:06:36. > :06:38.Corrie McKeague will be taken to the landfill site near Cambridge,

:06:39. > :06:40.where a major search Suffolk Police are focusing

:06:41. > :06:43.on the site at Milton, where waste from Bury St Edmunds

:06:44. > :06:46.was taken around the time Employers in the region say rises

:06:47. > :06:54.in the minimum wage or national living wage are putting the squeeze

:06:55. > :06:57.on workers in the middle The rates currently range from ?3.87

:06:58. > :07:03.for people under 18, rising to ?7.20 for those

:07:04. > :07:06.25 and over. And employers say more experienced

:07:07. > :07:10.staff are losing out. Playlanders playgroup

:07:11. > :07:16.in Cambridge is a happy place But money worries mean

:07:17. > :07:22.its future is uncertain. All the staff receive the minimum

:07:23. > :07:27.wage, currently ?7.20 an hour. Even before the increase,

:07:28. > :07:32.staff are carrying out We're only surviving

:07:33. > :07:37.because of staff goodwill. They undertake extra duties

:07:38. > :07:40.that they are not paid for, such as writing reports,

:07:41. > :07:43.attending staff meetings, going on training,

:07:44. > :07:47.and we can't pay them for it. They should be rewarded

:07:48. > :07:50.for what they do. The fact that the minimum wage has

:07:51. > :07:53.been rising above inflation also means that staff with extra

:07:54. > :07:57.responsibility are The deputy manager, who has worked

:07:58. > :08:03.in the sector for 15 years, is paid There's no way we can afford

:08:04. > :08:10.here for us to be able to pay me I'm not in the job for the money,

:08:11. > :08:19.but it just would be nice to get When the minimum wage

:08:20. > :08:23.was introduced 18 years ago, only one in 50 employees

:08:24. > :08:26.was paid it. By 2020, though, it's reckoned one

:08:27. > :08:29.in nine people will be on it. The erosion of pay differentials

:08:30. > :08:32.is becoming a real issue in lots of different industries,

:08:33. > :08:37.from childcare to retail, This firm in West Norfolk

:08:38. > :08:45.processes vegetables for the major supermarkets,

:08:46. > :08:49.employing 100 people. The living wage has come in,

:08:50. > :08:52.which has been very good for those on the bottom of our wage scale,

:08:53. > :08:56.but it has then squeezed everybody else, because we have managers,

:08:57. > :09:00.supervisors, technical quality people throughout the factory,

:09:01. > :09:04.and we can't match the percentages that come in with the living wage

:09:05. > :09:09.for everybody within the business. Well, employers say it's becoming

:09:10. > :09:14.very challenging to fill supervisory and technical roles -

:09:15. > :09:17.the sort of jobs crucial Richard Bond, BBC

:09:18. > :09:25.Look East, Norfolk. I'll leave you with the weather

:09:26. > :09:28.for the week ahead, with Julie. Well, it's a dry night

:09:29. > :09:32.ahead and largely clear. Under these clear skies we could see

:09:33. > :09:36.temperatures falling a little lower than these values,

:09:37. > :09:39.down to around freezing Out of the wind we could get

:09:40. > :09:43.a touch of frost, but that Tomorrow, this front pushing

:09:44. > :09:46.in from the south-west, Fine and dry with spells

:09:47. > :09:50.of sunshine, although eventually we'll see thicker cloud pushing

:09:51. > :09:53.in from the south-west. As we head into the evening we may

:09:54. > :09:59.just see the thickest cloud On Wednesday, it's a little

:10:00. > :10:04.uncertain what this front It looks like we'll have some

:10:05. > :10:09.fine and dry weather. There's a good chance it

:10:10. > :10:15.will go over the top of us. Thursday, it looks like high

:10:16. > :10:20.pressure will be in charge. It should be largely fine and dry,

:10:21. > :10:24.although the thickest cloud may For many of us a dry and quite mild

:10:25. > :10:29.day, with temperatures On Friday as well I think it

:10:30. > :10:33.will be largely dry, although we can't rule out a few

:10:34. > :10:36.spots of rain in places, and again, for some of us,

:10:37. > :10:40.temperatures into the low 50s I'll leave you with

:10:41. > :10:44.the outlook for next weekend. It should be largely dry, some light

:10:45. > :10:52.winds and some spells of sunshine. But again, any thicker cloud may

:10:53. > :11:01.just produce a few spots at the weekend it will be mild.

:11:02. > :11:02.Largely dry, perhaps
