:03:19. > :03:21.of eight pounds a month Green campaigners have

:03:22. > :03:30.criticised the move. Next - there'll be more black

:03:31. > :03:32.and ethnic minority police officers on the streets

:03:33. > :03:34.of Bedfordshire from today. The force has been actively trying

:03:35. > :03:37.to increase diversity in its ranks - and new recruits from that programme

:03:38. > :03:39.completed their training But it comes on the same day

:03:40. > :03:45.as the Independent Police Complaints Commission revealed 15 staff

:03:46. > :03:47.are under investigation for gross misconduct for their roles in a case

:03:48. > :03:50.of internal racial discrimination. The new faces of

:03:51. > :04:00.Bedfordshire Police. After months of training

:04:01. > :04:02.and testing, these new recruits They're the first to pass out

:04:03. > :04:09.since the campaign was started last year to encourage more people

:04:10. > :04:11.from minority ethnic We will be able to deliver,

:04:12. > :04:18.to cater for the needs of some of the different communities,

:04:19. > :04:21.some of the challenges they face. We will be able to have a dialogue

:04:22. > :04:24.with people who we have We will have a huge positive impact

:04:25. > :04:30.for the whole community. As we are jogging round,

:04:31. > :04:32.I want you to imagine you have a football at your feet,

:04:33. > :04:35.flick your toes out. These were some of the recruits five

:04:36. > :04:39.months ago undergoing fitness tests. It was always going to be more

:04:40. > :04:42.of a marathon than a sprint. At the moment, just 6% of police

:04:43. > :04:44.officers in Bedfordshire are from minority

:04:45. > :04:48.ethnic backgrounds. Personally, I am doing this so that

:04:49. > :04:51.other female Asians can see that you can do it,

:04:52. > :04:54.you don't have to be scared, you don't have to do worry

:04:55. > :04:56.about religion or anything. You can be out there

:04:57. > :04:59.positively and you can help It is hoped this injection

:05:00. > :05:03.of new blood will help the force to improve trust

:05:04. > :05:05.and public perception. Seeing people from your culture,

:05:06. > :05:07.it breaks down barriers So it's not just the police

:05:08. > :05:11.and them, it's us. But on this day of positivity,

:05:12. > :05:18.the force's past conduct The IPCC is now investigating 15

:05:19. > :05:23.staff members, many of them senior officers, over claims of racial

:05:24. > :05:39.discrimination against There was an employment tribunal in

:05:40. > :05:47.2014 and looked at the force going back many years, certainly before my

:05:48. > :05:51.time here. What we can do is prejudge the investigation. The

:05:52. > :05:54.investigation must take its course. It may find the has not been

:05:55. > :05:56.inappropriate behaviour so we must be careful about commenting.

:05:57. > :05:58.96 new recruits will join the force this year,

:05:59. > :06:06.It seems there are still a long way to go, but the change starts today.

:06:07. > :06:10.it's the annual Cambridge and Oxford University boat race

:06:11. > :06:12.along a four mile stretch of the River Thames.

:06:13. > :06:18.This year, it's thought the rowers will be watched by more than two

:06:19. > :06:20.hundred thousand spectators, and millions more on television.

:06:21. > :06:23.almost sank in the Women's Race last year,

:06:24. > :06:29.That's all from the Look East late team here in Cambridge,

:06:30. > :06:35.Julie has the weekend weather now but from me, goodnight.

:06:36. > :06:42.It is a mainly dry night of course, an isolated shower but someone clear

:06:43. > :06:45.spells and another mild night with many other seen temperatures no

:06:46. > :06:49.lower than about 8 degrees. Tomorrow the good old double act of sunshine

:06:50. > :06:53.and showers and some of the showers will be heavy, possibly somebody to

:06:54. > :07:00.with how mixed in. It should feel pleasant sunshine, highs of 15

:07:01. > :07:03.degrees. White south-westerly wind. It does mean the showers will be

:07:04. > :07:07.fairly slow moving. And then on Sunday I think I think a dry day for

:07:08. > :07:13.everyone on the whole, perhaps just an isolated shower and they will be

:07:14. > :07:16.isolated indeed. In a moment the National forecast but I leave you

:07:17. > :07:20.with Outlook, I pressure building on for Monday which is looking fine and

:07:21. > :07:22.dry, some showery rain first thing on Tuesday but then it should again

:07:23. > :07:41.become fine and dry for everyone. Hello. There the weekend is here and

:07:42. > :07:45.Sunday looks like being the better day of the two. We're going to start

:07:46. > :07:46.the weekend, a new month,
