:00:00. > :00:00.Jakonson on his novel about Donald Trump. Here on BBC One, it's time

:00:00. > :00:00.Police officers here fall silent

:00:07. > :00:09.to remember PC Keith Palmer as Luton faces new questions

:00:10. > :00:14.?10 an hour - why the Labour leader came to our region

:00:15. > :00:30.And I will have the forecast for the weather for the week ahead.

:00:31. > :00:35.Police officers from across our region today joined colleagues

:00:36. > :00:38.around the country in commemorating PC Keith Palmer, the officer

:00:39. > :00:42.killed in the Westminster attack last month.

:00:43. > :00:45.But as police stations fell silent, questions about the attacker's links

:00:46. > :00:51.Khalid Masood spent a number of years in the town.

:00:52. > :00:57.At police headquarters in Bedford, they gathered.

:00:58. > :01:03.The flag at half-mast, a tribute to PC Keith Palmer.

:01:04. > :01:05.In Northampton, like many places across the region,

:01:06. > :01:09.they stood silent, remembering one of their own.

:01:10. > :01:11.It's a great opportunity today for British policing

:01:12. > :01:14.to come together as a family and show our respects

:01:15. > :01:21.You know, we have thousands of officers and staff every day that

:01:22. > :01:25.come to work to do a brilliant job keeping people safe and PC Palmer

:01:26. > :01:29.Khalid Masood, who murdered PC Palmer, along with four others.

:01:30. > :01:31.Now come newspaper claims he was radicalised in Luton, here.

:01:32. > :01:33.His name, it says, found stuck to leaflets

:01:34. > :01:35.inside the mosque naming him as their website contact.

:01:36. > :01:42.A website, the article says, that called Muslims to pick up arms

:01:43. > :01:50.Qadeet Baksh, the chairman here, strongly refutes the allegations.

:01:51. > :01:55.If you look at the events from the 22nd of March,

:01:56. > :01:58.when the events at Westminster took place, two days later,

:01:59. > :02:01.I stood here on the pulpit giving a sermon condemning that act

:02:02. > :02:07.completely and calling the Muslims to condemn it generally.

:02:08. > :02:11.Why on earth would, a week later, you find a leaflet

:02:12. > :02:13.with a sticker with Khalid Masood's name on it?

:02:14. > :02:20.And then, also, five years later, after he'd left Luton.

:02:21. > :02:22.This Qadeet sermon condemning what Masood did...

:02:23. > :02:25."And jumping out of his car, rushing at the Parliament,

:02:26. > :02:40.Masood never came to this mosque, he told us.

:02:41. > :02:42.But others claim this is where he worshipped

:02:43. > :02:49.The problem is that the very creed of what the people at the helm

:02:50. > :02:52.of the mosque believe in is extreme, is fundamental and will drive

:02:53. > :02:57.Living in Luton for three years, Masood taught English

:02:58. > :03:03.A director of the school was Qadeet Baksh.

:03:04. > :03:07.But it and the mosque were separate, he told us.

:03:08. > :03:10.There is no link between the school and this mosque except that myself

:03:11. > :03:16.and Mr Latif were actually directors of a school.

:03:17. > :03:19.In terms of policies, procedures, there is no link.

:03:20. > :03:23.It was not an Islamist school, it was an English-language school

:03:24. > :03:26.and we had Muslims teaching there, non-Muslims teaching there.

:03:27. > :03:30.It is completely separate, had nothing to do with this mosque.

:03:31. > :03:36.Masood didn't come here, they told us.

:03:37. > :03:42.Its form of Islam is conservative, they say, but not extreme.

:03:43. > :03:44.This story is now being picked up by a number of other national

:03:45. > :03:48.newspapers and that image of the leaflet with Khalid

:03:49. > :03:50.Masood's contact details is all over social media.

:03:51. > :03:53.This town once again under the glare of the media.

:03:54. > :03:57.The newspaper says it has the evidence,

:03:58. > :04:03.the mosque says it is now considering a legal reaction.

:04:04. > :04:07.A drunk driver who flipped her vehicle over while trying

:04:08. > :04:09.to negotiate a roundabout near Peterborough has been

:04:10. > :04:13.This extraordinary dash-cam footage captured the moment Tania Chikwature

:04:14. > :04:18.tried to illegally overtake a lorry on the A605.

:04:19. > :04:22.Peterborough Magistrates heard she had her 20-month-old son in the car.

:04:23. > :04:30.Chikwature was more than three times over the drink-drive limit.

:04:31. > :04:33.The national minimum wage would rise to at least ?10 an hour if Labour

:04:34. > :04:36.gets elected in 2020 - that was the message

:04:37. > :04:41.The Labour leader chose to launch his pledge

:04:42. > :04:45.at Luton Town Football Club, as it was the first club

:04:46. > :04:47.in England to give employees the so-called "living wage".

:04:48. > :04:53.The nightmare of getting grass to grow in December.

:04:54. > :04:57.From the pitch outside to politics inside.

:04:58. > :05:01.The Labour leader here to talk to workers at Luton Town.

:05:02. > :05:03.This was the first football club in the country to give

:05:04. > :05:08.It's over and above what is required by law.

:05:09. > :05:13.Today, Jeremy Corbyn outlined his party's pledge to raise

:05:14. > :05:17.the national minimum wage to at least ?10 an hour.

:05:18. > :05:20.The east of England, it is an area of low wages,

:05:21. > :05:25.of many working in food processing and agriculture sectors

:05:26. > :05:34.Many people all over the country working in care homes, care workers,

:05:35. > :05:37.are very low paid indeed, so we think it will be a massive

:05:38. > :05:39.boost to many of the worst off in this country,

:05:40. > :05:42.more than 5 million people earn less than the existing living wage.

:05:43. > :05:46.One of our viewers has actually tweeted this morning calling this

:05:47. > :05:48.idea admirable but saying it is usually at the expense

:05:49. > :05:57.It actually will benefit the taxpayer, because it will cut

:05:58. > :06:00.the tax credit bill, but it will also mean there's more

:06:01. > :06:04.There are worries from some small businesses about the costs involved,

:06:05. > :06:08.but according to the club's chief executive, the sums do add up.

:06:09. > :06:12.It goes up to ?8.45 this month, so they get a slight

:06:13. > :06:15.increase this month, so that is about ?1.20

:06:16. > :06:23.So all of those people, you know, we retain longer,

:06:24. > :06:27.so there is a little bit more loyalty.

:06:28. > :06:29.So from a business perspective, it's actually a case of how can

:06:30. > :06:33.We have a problem with zero contracts, zero hours

:06:34. > :06:37.contracts and things, so if we can improve

:06:38. > :06:39.people's living standards, then it improves their whole life

:06:40. > :06:41.and I think that is really fantastic.

:06:42. > :06:43.For workers like Holly, the living wage was just the ticket,

:06:44. > :06:45.allowing her to plan and save for the future.

:06:46. > :06:50.It made a really big difference and last year,

:06:51. > :06:53.me and my partner were able to buy a house and get a mortgage,

:06:54. > :06:56.so it has made a really big difference with that.

:06:57. > :07:00.And this year, we are now starting to save for a wedding as well,

:07:01. > :07:03.so it is a big benefit, a really positive thing to happen.

:07:04. > :07:08.A change like this won't come quickly and is by

:07:09. > :07:11.The party's first goal - to win the next election

:07:12. > :07:21.Airlander - the world's longest aircraft -

:07:22. > :07:24.is back outside for the first time since its heavy landing in August.

:07:25. > :07:26.After months of repairs behind closed doors in Cardington,

:07:27. > :07:29.it's hoped the airship could be airborne by the end of the week.

:07:30. > :07:40.After seven long months Airlander is back outside.

:07:41. > :07:43.At almost 92 metres long, containing enough helium to fill

:07:44. > :07:45.15 Olympic swimming pools, it's an impressive sight.

:07:46. > :07:48.Well, for safety reasons today, this is as close as we can

:07:49. > :07:50.get to the Airlander because although it is tethered,

:07:51. > :07:52.it is now floating and moving around its moorings circle.

:07:53. > :07:58.This is the reason why it has been repaired.

:07:59. > :08:03.That nosedive landing on its second test flight back in August.

:08:04. > :08:06.Last week, I revealed these new inflatable landing feet,

:08:07. > :08:10.have been fitted to stop that happening again.

:08:11. > :08:13.Technology the pilots are keen to test.

:08:14. > :08:19.So the visible stuff like the auxiliary landing system,

:08:20. > :08:21.the inflatable feet forward at the main skids,

:08:22. > :08:24.and they will allow us to test and push the boundaries

:08:25. > :08:30.Airlander could be back in the skies as early as the end of the week

:08:31. > :08:32.and the company has big plans beyond that.

:08:33. > :08:36.During the summer, we hope to become a familiar sight throughout

:08:37. > :08:42.We'll look for some big events to visit so people can see us,

:08:43. > :08:45.and by the end of the summer hopefully look to go abroad,

:08:46. > :08:49.perhaps down to Germany or even over the North Sea.

:08:50. > :08:52.Fast forward to 2020 and the firm hopes to be building

:08:53. > :09:01.For now, all eyes will be on the viability

:09:02. > :09:04.of this latest round of test flights.

:09:05. > :09:06.And finally, there's good news for poultry-keepers

:09:07. > :09:09.after the Government's chief veterinary officer announced

:09:10. > :09:13.bird flu restrictions are set to be lifted.

:09:14. > :09:15.The rules introduced late last year meant poultry in high-risk areas,

:09:16. > :09:18.including parts of our region, had to be housed indoors to reduce

:09:19. > :09:21.the risk of them catching the disease from wild birds.

:09:22. > :09:23.Now Defra says the restrictions will end on Thursday

:09:24. > :09:30.Free range egg producers warned the move could put

:09:31. > :09:32.Now the weather for the week ahead with Julie.

:09:33. > :09:35.Well, apart from an isolated shower, tonight should be fine and dry

:09:36. > :09:38.with some clear spells and a fairly chilly night for some of us.

:09:39. > :09:40.Generally, temperatures down to around six or seven Celsius

:09:41. > :09:44.but some spots could actually drop closer to freezing, around one

:09:45. > :09:48.or two degrees and that could lead to a ground frost in some places

:09:49. > :09:52.So a bit of a chilly start to the day but tomorrow is looking

:09:53. > :09:54.fine and dry with variable amounts of cloud and some

:09:55. > :09:57.Temperatures tomorrow around 14 Celsius, 57 Fahrenheit,

:09:58. > :10:01.but the winds pick up in the afternoon to mainly moderate

:10:02. > :10:04.west to south-westerly, so quite a blustery end to the day

:10:05. > :10:08.and probably as we head towards tomorrow evening,

:10:09. > :10:10.we may well see in increase in cloud too.

:10:11. > :10:12.And then Wednesday, this weak front pushing down from the north,

:10:13. > :10:15.so after a fine and dry start, eventually that front will introduce

:10:16. > :10:18.thicker cloud and some outbreaks of mainly light and patchy rain,

:10:19. > :10:20.so perhaps that rain not for everybody and quite

:10:21. > :10:27.And then towards the end of the week, our weather influenced

:10:28. > :10:30.by this weather front that is going to be moving rather

:10:31. > :10:33.erratically towards us, and that is making it quite

:10:34. > :10:35.difficult to pinpoint the detail when it comes

:10:36. > :10:37.to the Easter weekend, but at the moment, Thursday

:10:38. > :10:40.is looking largely dry, quite a lot of cloud around

:10:41. > :10:43.with perhaps an isolated shower and then Good Friday for many of us

:10:44. > :10:47.Some rain to the north at the moment is not set to move

:10:48. > :10:49.through until quite late on in the day.

:10:50. > :10:51.Now, in a moment, Matt will have the national

:10:52. > :10:54.forecast but I will leave you with the outlook

:10:55. > :10:57.We could have some rain early Saturday but that should clear

:10:58. > :11:00.to leave a weekend of scattered showers but hopefully some

:11:01. > :11:18.Good evening. Let's cut to the chase the first big holiday weekend of the

:11:19. > :11:22.year is on the horizon and if you consider last weekend as a taster

:11:23. > :11:26.for the summer, this weekend is not looking too bad. It will be a bit

:11:27. > :11:29.cooler, temperatures this week and closer to where they should be at

:11:30. > :11:34.this time of the year thanks to the north-west breed and the reason for

:11:35. > :11:38.that, if we look at the jet stream, coming across the Atlantic pushing

:11:39. > :11:44.from north to south -- north-west breeze. It separates the high

:11:45. > :11:47.pressure and low price and it allows the northerly airflow to develop. It

:11:48. > :11:53.means there will be some showers going into Easter weekend but they

:11:54. > :11:55.will only be a small portion of the weekend wherever you are and there

:11:56. > :11:59.will be some dry weather and when the sun is out, it is getting

:12:00. > :12:01.stronger so it will negate some of the
