:01:05. > :01:06.former serviceman, he would get more help in London. What he found

:02:46. > :02:47.Corrie McKeague is planning to answer questions from the public

:03:00. > :03:02.is being given equipment that is no Next term, students at Stopsley High

:03:03. > :03:07.are moving into new buildings. Today volunteers started

:03:08. > :03:11.dismantling the old furniture, which will be shipped

:03:12. > :03:27.to Sierra Leone in the New Year. This is recycling on a whole new

:03:28. > :03:31.level. The high school moves to new premises in January, and the old

:03:32. > :03:34.buildings are being demolished, but the fixtures and fittings will be

:03:35. > :03:39.saved and shipped out to West Africa. Doors, desks, chairs,

:03:40. > :03:42.fridges, air conditioning units, even toilets, we'll all be used to

:03:43. > :03:46.equip a brand-new school. I think it is going to be good,

:03:47. > :03:50.because although we have the equipment and we take it for

:03:51. > :03:53.granted, it would be a really good thing for them to have.

:03:54. > :04:00.And these are people who don't have a lot. Here in C airily own, they

:04:01. > :04:04.lived largely in slums, in a country decimated by ebola. -- Sierra Leone.

:04:05. > :04:08.But now a charity is helping them rebuild their lives. The new school

:04:09. > :04:13.will be part of a new village with 300 houses, a health centre, and a

:04:14. > :04:17.bakery using this recycled kitchen. Out of an old school comes a new

:04:18. > :04:20.school which will literally transform the lives of so many

:04:21. > :04:25.children. These are the people who are the poorest on earth, and we, by

:04:26. > :04:31.using what we are only going to throw into landfill, we can build

:04:32. > :04:35.and provide facilities and training programmes and really help people.

:04:36. > :04:40.They are even talking about the students getting involved afterwards

:04:41. > :04:44.to see what has happened with the old bits of the school and where the

:04:45. > :04:47.school has gone to, and what they are doing with it. I just think it

:04:48. > :04:49.is fantastic. The charity is now asking for

:04:50. > :04:52.volunteers to help over the next week. The equipment will then be

:04:53. > :04:55.shipped out in the New Year. More than ?100,000 has been secured

:04:56. > :04:58.to save an historic pier in Suffolk. Shotley Railway Pier

:04:59. > :05:02.was built 122 years ago. Now a local heritage group hope

:05:03. > :05:05.to buy and restore it. People eager to own a part

:05:06. > :05:09.of the pier will buy shares in it, and a charitable trust has agreed

:05:10. > :05:15.to match-fund the money raised. Maritime history

:05:16. > :05:18.falling into disrepair. Built in 1894, Shotley Pier,

:05:19. > :05:24.also known as Bristol Pier, was the backdrop to a dramatic

:05:25. > :05:28.German U-boat fleet surrender Built by the Marquis of Bristol,

:05:29. > :05:35.it was originally a Victorian toll pier where they charged passengers

:05:36. > :05:39.a penny to cross to Felixstowe The Royal Navy's HMS Ganges training

:05:40. > :05:44.ship and centre were based at Shotley to train thousands

:05:45. > :05:47.of young naval ratings On a day like this at low tide

:05:48. > :05:55.when it looks muddy, it doesn't look very exciting,

:05:56. > :05:59.but when the tide is in, or even And the stories that people have

:06:00. > :06:03.given me about falling in love with their wife or coming and doing

:06:04. > :06:06.a bit of fishing, a bit of night fishing, going over

:06:07. > :06:09.to Harwich and having a day In recent years, the pier hasn't

:06:10. > :06:13.made its auction reserve. That has prompted

:06:14. > :06:15.locals to take action. They are raising ?100,000 to buy it

:06:16. > :06:20.and ?300,000 to restore it and make We would love to see

:06:21. > :06:26.the pier restored. We could embark and disembark

:06:27. > :06:29.passengers here, we could lay barges overnight, and of course the barges

:06:30. > :06:34.are a major part of this It's a big part of my childhood

:06:35. > :06:37.and it's a big part of everybody We throw money away

:06:38. > :06:43.on stupid things. Let's throw some money at something

:06:44. > :06:45.that's worth throwing it at. All going well, the pier will be

:06:46. > :06:48.bought and the restoration work underway by spring,

:06:49. > :06:50.and it should be open for moorings, crabbing

:06:51. > :07:03.and fishing by next Christmas. Let's take a look at the weather

:07:04. > :07:07.now. Thank you. Good evening. It is another cold

:07:08. > :07:10.evening and night across the region, with freezing fog patches becoming

:07:11. > :07:14.widespread and locally quite dance through the night. Temperature wise,

:07:15. > :07:19.we could be several degrees before freezing before the night is out,

:07:20. > :07:22.down 2-4 or minus five Celsius. Some of this mist and fog will be a

:07:23. > :07:26.problem clearing through tomorrow morning, and for some of us, it may

:07:27. > :07:30.linger through most of the day, affecting temperatures, so around

:07:31. > :07:34.three Celsius as a high. In some areas, it will then break and we

:07:35. > :07:42.will see some perhaps 5-7 did grease with a light wind. Cloudy picture

:07:43. > :07:45.through to the weekend. Temperatures will lift slightly through to the

:07:46. > :07:50.weekend with a slight push of air, so there will be a sharp frost might

:07:51. > :07:51.and tomorrow night, lifting so there were ever so

:07:52. > :07:51.and tomorrow night, lifting so there were ever so slightly.

:07:52. > :07:53.Thank you very much. That's all from me, but I'll be

:07:54. > :07:55.back just after 10.30 In the meantime, have

:07:56. > :08:30.a very good evening. Good evening, the weather is proving

:08:31. > :08:32.hazardous and
