:00:17. > :00:17.Hello. news where you are.

:00:18. > :00:19.A warning tonight from our hospitals.

:00:20. > :00:21.Please don't go to accident and emergency unless your

:00:22. > :00:25.Many are struggling to cope with a high number of older patients

:00:26. > :00:28.and they are worried the situation will only get worse over New Year.

:00:29. > :00:30.There has also been a record demand for ambulances over Christmas.

:00:31. > :00:34.When the hospital says don't come to accident and emergency

:00:35. > :00:36.unless your condition is life or limb threatening,

:00:37. > :00:41.All beds here at the James Paget near Great Yarmouth are full.

:00:42. > :00:46.at A are having to wait up to five hours to be seen.

:00:47. > :00:49.Our staff are working relentlessly

:00:50. > :00:53.under extreme pressure to provide safe patient care.

:00:54. > :00:56.And are you able to keep up with that?

:00:57. > :01:00.we have to do the right thing for our patients.

:01:01. > :01:06.Northampton has no spare beds, Addenbrooke's and Cambridge says

:01:07. > :01:10.it's treating many older patients and the Lister in Stevenage,

:01:11. > :01:13.like many hospitals, is extremely busy.

:01:14. > :01:15.But this year we've seen another factor, Christmas Day

:01:16. > :01:19.and New Year's Day both full on Sundays which means

:01:20. > :01:24.that effectively we have got two bank holiday weekends back to back

:01:25. > :01:29.and that also has consequences for the wider health care system.

:01:30. > :01:32.It means more perhaps look to the emergency services

:01:33. > :01:34.rather than their family doctor when they fall ill.

:01:35. > :01:36.The region's Ambulance Service has seen

:01:37. > :01:38.a record-breaking rise in 999 calls this Christmas.

:01:39. > :01:43.Between 7pm on Christmas Eve and 11pm on Boxing Day,

:01:44. > :01:46.the service received almost 7000 calls,

:01:47. > :01:49.up from just over 6000 the previous year.

:01:50. > :01:52.The reason for the increase isn't clear.

:01:53. > :01:54.Our crews are working 12-hour days and often

:01:55. > :01:57.they're going from one patient to another patient to another patient

:01:58. > :02:03.and then to a hospital and then to another patient and it's

:02:04. > :02:05.The message from paramedics and hospital

:02:06. > :02:07.doctors, make your GP, your local pharmacy,

:02:08. > :02:11.your first point of contact if you fall ill.

:02:12. > :02:13.Because the next few days will be a huge challenge

:02:14. > :02:15.for those on health care's emergency front line.

:02:16. > :02:22.Hundreds of people gathered on the beach in Leigh on Sea last

:02:23. > :02:25.night to remember two teenagers who died in a car crash on Tuesday.

:02:26. > :02:29.Paper lanterns and balloons were released and fireworks set off.

:02:30. > :02:33.Reegan Knight and Liam Phillips were both 17 years old.

:02:34. > :02:35.Southend United football club is also planning a tribute

:02:36. > :02:43.I feel devastated, one of my close mates is not here any more.

:02:44. > :02:48.I can't speak to him but I just want to give him

:02:49. > :02:51.this lovely sendoff so he knows up there that we are looking out

:02:52. > :02:56.A man has been arrested in connection with a burglary

:02:57. > :02:58.in which police officers were threatened.

:02:59. > :03:01.It happened in Wivenhoe on December the 13th when police

:03:02. > :03:06.A 24-year-old man from Colchester has been arrested on suspicion

:03:07. > :03:14.of aggravated burglary and possession of firearms.

:03:15. > :03:17.House prices in Luton are rising faster than anywhere else

:03:18. > :03:21.They've gone up by nearly 20% in the last year,

:03:22. > :03:22.making it the biggest proportional increase.

:03:23. > :03:24.The average price of a house in Luton

:03:25. > :03:37.The Norwich City manager Alex Neil has refused to comment on a report

:03:38. > :03:40.in the Sun newspaper that he will get ?2 million if he is sacked.

:03:41. > :03:43.With eight defeats in the last ten league matches,

:03:44. > :03:49.Very little is going right for Alex Neil just

:03:50. > :03:52.at the moment and the last thing he needed was to find his name

:03:53. > :03:55.and that of his chairman Ed Balls on the back page

:03:56. > :04:02.The paper claims Neil will get ?2 million if he gets sacked.

:04:03. > :04:05.The man himself wouldn't confirm or deny that.

:04:06. > :04:08.It's like anything else, I've never sat here and spoke about

:04:09. > :04:11.players' contracts and different things like that

:04:12. > :04:14.so I'm not going to sit here and speak about my contract

:04:15. > :04:18.Despite relegation from the Premier League last year,

:04:19. > :04:25.But eight defeats in the last ten League matches this season

:04:26. > :04:32.So, can the Canaries afford to sack him now?

:04:33. > :04:35.It's much more important that Norwich try and get back to the

:04:36. > :04:38.Premier League than it is maybe to have to pay a manager

:04:39. > :04:40.what he's owed, it's as simple as that.

:04:41. > :04:43.Because it would cost a lot more to stay in

:04:44. > :04:45.the Championship or even worse, as we've seen with Norwich

:04:46. > :04:48.in the past, to go down another league than it is

:04:49. > :04:50.to maybe change the manager and it's a case of how long

:04:51. > :04:57.Contrary to suggestions in the local media,

:04:58. > :04:59.I don't bury my head in the sand.

:05:00. > :05:02.I know exactly where we are, what's gone on.

:05:03. > :05:04.I know that it's unacceptable and we need to do better.

:05:05. > :05:08.I can assure you I feel that more than anybody else.

:05:09. > :05:11.Mainly because I'm a winner, I want to win games,

:05:12. > :05:18.Brentford tomorrow, Derby at Carrow Road on Monday.

:05:19. > :05:21.Two wins and the pressure eases but if the results go against

:05:22. > :05:27.the Canaries, it's unlikely to be a happy New Year for Alex Neil.

:05:28. > :05:31.Mike Liggins, BBC Look East, at the Norwich City training ground.

:05:32. > :05:34.And two of our teams are in action tonight.

:05:35. > :05:37.Ipswich are at home to Bristol City and MK Dons are also

:05:38. > :05:46.Now time for a look at the weather with Dan.

:05:47. > :05:51.Mist and fog causing some problems across the region today. Poor

:05:52. > :05:56.visibility but not everywhere. We have seen some sunshine as well.

:05:57. > :05:59.This is one of our pictures. One of the lucky few that saw a glimpse of

:06:00. > :06:07.blue sky through because of the day. I probably can't hear. But for many,

:06:08. > :06:12.a lot of locale, mist fog. If you're driving this evening, Met Office

:06:13. > :06:20.warning that the dense fog with visibility below a hundred in

:06:21. > :06:24.favours. -- not for many here. Perhaps just the thing a little bit

:06:25. > :06:27.towards the north-west of the region tonight, temperatures or maybe just

:06:28. > :06:32.above freezing but locally, if you get a gap in the car, down 2-1 minus

:06:33. > :06:38.two Celsius. Patchy frost here now. Not as cold as last night. A lot of

:06:39. > :06:41.cloud tomorrow, mist and fog lifting to the day tomorrow so improving on

:06:42. > :06:45.today with a bit of rain is here and there for the afternoon. The breeze

:06:46. > :06:52.picking up as well, highs to seven to nine Celsius. Tomorrow evening,

:06:53. > :06:57.as we run up towards midnight, not a lot changing, the breeze will pick

:06:58. > :07:00.up, mostly dry, the odd spot of impossible and temperatures should

:07:01. > :07:04.be around six or seven Celsius. Quite master this time of the year.

:07:05. > :07:08.It is all change as we go into the New Year, a band of rain stinking

:07:09. > :07:13.south towards the morning on New Year's Day, healthy buzz of rain.

:07:14. > :07:23.Bit of uncertainty of how quickly the rain clears. It might turn

:07:24. > :07:27.sweetie on the back edge. Sunday, looking quite wet through the

:07:28. > :07:30.morning but mild as the rain" it will turn colder do because of the

:07:31. > :07:34.afternoon. Hopefully something a little bit brighter later on in the

:07:35. > :07:38.day. A cold frosty night to follow into Monday morning, the bank

:07:39. > :07:42.holiday. Both Monday and Tuesday mainly dry days but cold with some

:07:43. > :07:45.sunshine, chilly overnight, sharp frost on Monday night and parts of

:07:46. > :07:51.Norfolk and Suffolk might see a wintry showers feeding in from the

:07:52. > :07:55.North Sea. Thank you very much. That is it from me for this year. I will

:07:56. > :07:59.see you next year. Have a happy New Year.
