:00:00. > :00:00.Hello and welcome to Look East, with Susie and me.

:00:00. > :00:08.The headlines tonight, from Essex, Suffolk

:00:09. > :00:11.and Norfolk: Jailed for life - the partners in crime convicted

:00:12. > :00:21.We will always remember Michael as he was.

:00:22. > :00:24.A happy man who would give you the shirt off his back

:00:25. > :00:26.and always had a cheeky smile that was infectious.

:00:30. > :00:31.block which has stood empty for eight years.

:00:32. > :00:34.Old enough to vote - so why don't they?

:00:35. > :00:37.We ask young people what it will take to get them

:00:38. > :00:40.And former Canaries boss Chris Hughton returns tonight

:00:41. > :01:00.A woman from Essex who lured her former boyfriend to a remote spot

:01:01. > :01:03.where he was battered to death with metal poles has

:01:04. > :01:10.The plot was hatched between Rebecca Ryan and Scott Swift.

:01:11. > :01:12.He was said to be jealous of her former boyfriend.

:01:13. > :01:16.A jury at Chelmsford Crown Court was told she agreed to invite

:01:17. > :01:21.Michael Beckwith, who was a care worker, to a remote spot in Harwich.

:01:22. > :01:25.Let's get the full story now from our Essex

:01:26. > :01:38.Michael Beckwith was described as likeable and popular. Last July he

:01:39. > :01:43.was lured to a secluded area in Harwich were two masked men beat him

:01:44. > :01:47.with metal poles. The judge described it as a vicious and cut

:01:48. > :01:56.with the attack in which she stood no chance as the life was battered

:01:57. > :02:02.out of him. Rebecca Ryan had been engaged to him and was jealous

:02:03. > :02:07.because she thought he had been texting an ex-girlfriend. She Luton

:02:08. > :02:14.to the sport he was killed and later called 999 claiming she was an

:02:15. > :02:22.innocent bystander. There were two men, they were all covered up and I

:02:23. > :02:30.could not see. But the Judy believes she masterminded the whole thing.

:02:31. > :02:34.She returned to the scene and spent time almost pretending to tend to

:02:35. > :02:38.Michael and making comments such as look what you have done that I could

:02:39. > :02:43.quickly have done to you. To then come back to be scene and pretend

:02:44. > :02:49.you were concerned for his welfare. Joel Smith, a teenager, was the

:02:50. > :02:57.second attacker who tagged along with Scott Swift. Michael Beckwith

:02:58. > :03:02.left with her mother -- left with his mother who died shortly before

:03:03. > :03:07.the trial began. Michael's murder has taken everything away from us. A

:03:08. > :03:11.mother who could not take the strain of the trial passed away from a

:03:12. > :03:17.heart attack just before it started. An uncle from a nephew who never got

:03:18. > :03:21.to see grow into young man, because we could all share a laugh with a

:03:22. > :03:29.new we could turn to if we needed help. Both were jailed for life,

:03:30. > :03:37.Scott Swift a minimum of 24 years, Rebecca Ryan 17. The other attacker

:03:38. > :03:39.got seven years. Two other people got two and a half years for

:03:40. > :03:42.perverting the course of justice. an abandoned building project

:03:43. > :03:46.on the waterfront in Ipswich. Regatta Quay has become a symbol

:03:47. > :04:05.of the economic crash in 2008. For the best part of a decade

:04:06. > :04:13.Winerack is that looking forlorn and forgotten. Now the last things are

:04:14. > :04:18.on the game with ?20 million of funding with two loans with interest

:04:19. > :04:23.which will be repaid as and when required. 15 million from a

:04:24. > :04:26.Government fund and the rest from the new Anglia local enterprise

:04:27. > :04:32.partnership which also uses Government funding. This is public

:04:33. > :04:36.money and we take it very seriously and the interest we will get on the

:04:37. > :04:41.loan repayments we can put into other projects. A lot of people will

:04:42. > :04:45.benefit and not just those living here. Two years ago there were

:04:46. > :04:50.hopeful signs with local developer John Howard to take on this part --

:04:51. > :04:57.partly built site would to complete the scheme and put the work out to

:04:58. > :05:01.tender. It has been frustrating how long it has taken to get started but

:05:02. > :05:08.now we're getting the tender of things. Happening quite quickly. He

:05:09. > :05:11.admitted construction costs have risen and bankers unwilling to

:05:12. > :05:18.commit to this funding is not just pleasing but pivotal. On the scheme

:05:19. > :05:26.like this what the Government have done is very positive and forward

:05:27. > :05:33.and without them and the money we ourselves are putting in it would

:05:34. > :05:40.not happen. This project is was promised so much, almost 150 new

:05:41. > :05:44.homes,, shall space and 50 new jobs. Hopefully, finally, if all the

:05:45. > :05:51.developer's ducks end up in a road trip be transformed from total

:05:52. > :05:57.eyesore to totally eye-catching. -- if the ducks lined up for the

:05:58. > :06:00.developer. From stagnation too slick and stylish. Fingers crossed.

:06:01. > :06:04.and the Green Party have been campaigning in Norfolk today ahead

:06:05. > :06:07.The party sees Norwich as one of its strongholds,

:06:08. > :06:09.with 10 councillors on the city council.

:06:10. > :06:11.On the county council, though, it only has three.

:06:12. > :06:13.Today, the party's candidates for the general election

:06:14. > :06:16.Norwich South is expected to be a target seat once again.

:06:17. > :06:18.In 2015 the party came third in the consituency,

:06:19. > :06:31.The launch of the Green Party manifesto was on one

:06:32. > :06:37.It was a photocall, really, so rosettes, posters and smile,

:06:38. > :06:42.The Greens are putting up 34 candidates for the county council

:06:43. > :06:46.People know what they get when the Greens are elected here.

:06:47. > :06:48.We have people who stand against cuts, who make sure

:06:49. > :06:51.we are reducing air pollution and people who are building things

:06:52. > :06:54.like making sure there is no privatisation in our NHS and looking

:06:55. > :06:57.The Green Party is also fielding candidates in four constituencies

:06:58. > :07:08.They are against a hard Brexit, for the NHS and,

:07:09. > :07:13.on the environment, plan to campaign for better air quality.

:07:14. > :07:15.At Castle Meadow in Norwich EU air quality limits

:07:16. > :07:20.have been broken for six years, they say.

:07:21. > :07:22.The solution is more restrictions on diesel vehicles,

:07:23. > :07:24.it is zero carbon transport, it is also to get more

:07:25. > :07:32.Healthy walking and cycling and active travel makes a huge

:07:33. > :07:34.difference to your personal well-being.

:07:35. > :07:36.We take air quality very seriously in Norwich

:07:37. > :07:39.We have already made many achievements and improvement over

:07:40. > :07:41.the past few years and continue to do that.

:07:42. > :07:44.We work with the bus companies across all Norfolk to improve

:07:45. > :07:46.the emissions on their buses, when they are replaced

:07:47. > :07:56.Having launched their manifesto, the Greens candidates launch

:07:57. > :08:04.The Greens are keen to woo younger people -

:08:05. > :08:06.votes at 16, affordable housing, and education are all things

:08:07. > :08:13.When you have all the parties, in effect, accepting the tuition

:08:14. > :08:20.Education is a right, not a privilege.

:08:21. > :08:22.It should be free whether you arefour years old,

:08:23. > :08:26.14 years old or 40 years old, whether you are a student

:08:27. > :08:33.If Brexit is the big issue of the general election the Greens

:08:34. > :08:39.will have to shout loudly to make themselves heard.

:08:40. > :08:41.But they are out there are now pounding the streets

:08:42. > :08:46.in a low-carbon and keen to debate the issues as always.

:08:47. > :08:51.Well, let's pick up on that point about younger voters.

:08:52. > :08:54.The fact is all the parties need to engage with younger people.

:08:55. > :08:57.At the EU Referendum last year nearly one in five of registered

:08:58. > :09:14.The -- these sixth form students are well aware of the upcoming election.

:09:15. > :09:18.They are across all the hot political topic squabble like most

:09:19. > :09:24.of the country they do not agree on all the solutions. The reason may be

:09:25. > :09:29.a lot but no deal being better than a bad deal but no deal would be

:09:30. > :09:34.catastrophic. We now do not have to worry about what the EU will say.

:09:35. > :09:43.This man realises how important it is for young people to vote. The

:09:44. > :09:48.other do not have much chance... Head out to the rest of the College

:09:49. > :09:54.and other students have not got the same appetite. You're old enough to

:09:55. > :09:59.vote? Will devote this time round? Probably not. I do not know a lot

:10:00. > :10:06.about politics so I do not interest myself in elections. Will you vote?

:10:07. > :10:12.Probably not. Younger people are not showing up to vote is widespread.

:10:13. > :10:23.During the EU referendum almost 20 in every 118-34 -year-old registered

:10:24. > :10:26.to vote did not turn up, whereas people over 35 and ten and 100

:10:27. > :10:30.registered voters did not turn up. That means the votes for all the

:10:31. > :10:36.people and their issues can be a lot more weight. This was seen in the

:10:37. > :10:41.referendum result. The people have spoken and we are out. The majority

:10:42. > :10:44.of young people wanted to remain part of judo but that was drowned

:10:45. > :10:52.out by all the people generally preferred to leave. -- remain part

:10:53. > :10:58.of the EU. And that was drowned out by all the people. If they did it on

:10:59. > :11:04.the internet and you could read through what you will be voting for

:11:05. > :11:09.it would be a lot easier. If they explained more what they can do for

:11:10. > :11:13.me and how it would affect me and let me think about how and why I

:11:14. > :11:19.should vote. There are a lot of potential votes

:11:20. > :11:20.to be earned for any politicians they can convince this generation to

:11:21. > :11:21.head to the polls. Let's have a word

:11:22. > :11:23.with Andrew Sinclair, How significant is this generation

:11:24. > :11:31.divide among voters? It is very significant number are

:11:32. > :11:35.concerned it will only get worse in the so-called Brexit election. All

:11:36. > :11:40.the parties work hard to attract young people but the reality is when

:11:41. > :11:44.it comes to pulling the most young people do not turn out to vote so

:11:45. > :11:47.that this why the party 's new policies towards all the voters

:11:48. > :11:54.would make young people feel even more disillusioned. It is a vicious

:11:55. > :11:59.circle. I supported is now a scramble to choose candidates? Yes,

:12:00. > :12:05.a lot of meetings taking place this week. In many parts of the region

:12:06. > :12:09.Labour, Ukip and the Liberal Democrats have no one in the frame

:12:10. > :12:16.at the moment and have got to find candidates quickly. For existing MPs

:12:17. > :12:22.in Chelmsford MP standing down, we know Douglas Carswell is going to

:12:23. > :12:27.want to watch is Alan Hazlehurst. Last time he had a fight on his

:12:28. > :12:32.hands on some wondered if he was too old. This time he will be 80 next

:12:33. > :12:34.month and says he is fit and ready to go. The association will meet

:12:35. > :12:36.next week. We will have more on the region's

:12:37. > :12:39.political scene in this Subjects include the county council

:12:40. > :12:42.elections and the departure It's on at the later time

:12:43. > :12:47.of 3:15 on BBC One. More than 300 people

:12:48. > :12:48.have voted unanimously in support of buying the old cottage

:12:49. > :12:52.hospital in Southwold At a packed meeting last night

:12:53. > :12:55.people voiced their concern that weekenders had

:12:56. > :12:59.forced up house prices. Most are now beyond the reach

:13:00. > :13:02.of many local people. The Save Our Southwold

:13:03. > :13:16.group has made a formal You are watching prog-mac. Stay with

:13:17. > :13:28.us for Julie's weekend weather forecast. We live at Carrow Road.

:13:29. > :13:31.And the food hall manager on top of the world as he takes a leap for

:13:32. > :13:34.charity -- the football manager. All this week, we've been

:13:35. > :13:36.meeting some of the special people who are taking part

:13:37. > :13:38.in Sunday's London Marathon. Tonight, it's the turn

:13:39. > :13:41.of Ryan Cameron, a PE Ryan has been diagnosed with early

:13:42. > :13:45.onset Parkinson's disease. He says he will carry on teaching

:13:46. > :13:52.for as long as he can, and is determined to

:13:53. > :13:53.complete the Marathon This special needs school in Luton

:13:54. > :14:10.is full of children with remarkable Appropriately, their PE teacher,

:14:11. > :14:16.Ryan Cameron, has one of his own. Diagnosed with Parkinson's disease

:14:17. > :14:19.three years ago at just 31, his decision to run

:14:20. > :14:22.the London Marathon this weekend I like to think I am

:14:23. > :14:26.an active person, a positive So even with something with this

:14:27. > :14:32.I just want to get on with life. People have been asking me

:14:33. > :14:40.if I'm nervous and I... I have been thinking about this,

:14:41. > :14:46.obviously, for a while and I have pitched myself to get over

:14:47. > :14:49.the finish line, whether that is crawling or walking,

:14:50. > :14:51.but because I have done the mental side of things and psychologically

:14:52. > :14:57.I know I am going to do it. Last year Ryan was too ill

:14:58. > :15:01.to make the start line. His grit and positivity has

:15:02. > :15:03.earned him the admiration Last year he had to pull out

:15:04. > :15:09.because of his health, and this year there has been ups

:15:10. > :15:14.and downs and his health has not been great some days,

:15:15. > :15:17.but he has come back every week, every day, with determination

:15:18. > :15:19.and I believe he can do it. And for these young people

:15:20. > :15:22.it is incredibly inspiring. I think people will see

:15:23. > :15:25.disability as a limitation and we do not believe that here,

:15:26. > :15:28.we think our children can achieve anything,

:15:29. > :15:31.what the right support and the right motivation and I think Ryan

:15:32. > :15:39.is a very good example of that. And he is already looking

:15:40. > :15:42.to his future sporting ambitions. I am hanging up my running shoes

:15:43. > :15:45.after the marathon and I am going to move on to cycling,

:15:46. > :15:48.purely because it is easier for someone with Parkinson's

:15:49. > :15:50.to cycle that it is more advantageous than running because it

:15:51. > :15:56.does not affect your joints as much. But for now he is giving

:15:57. > :16:03.up for this weekend. For 26 miles, inspiring and raising

:16:04. > :16:10.awareness every step of the way. If you are taking part

:16:11. > :16:13.on Sunday - good luck. And if you want to share your

:16:14. > :16:16.pictures of the big day you can Tonight's big match

:16:17. > :16:22.in the Championship sees Norwich City hosting

:16:23. > :16:24.league leaders Brighton. A win for Brighton will

:16:25. > :16:26.confirm them as Champions. So it could be a very happy

:16:27. > :16:28.return to Carrow Road for the Brighton manager

:16:29. > :16:32.Chris Hughton. In fact, it's the first

:16:33. > :16:50.time he's been there He probably would not admit it but

:16:51. > :16:55.would be a sweet moment for Chris Hughton if Brighton can win tonight.

:16:56. > :17:00.Sacked three years ago from here somewhat controversially, certainly

:17:01. > :17:03.the timing was at Brighton this season have beaten all, as an one

:17:04. > :17:07.more win this season would send them up as champion.

:17:08. > :17:09.A popular man, passionate, too, Chris Hughton managed Norwich

:17:10. > :17:11.for nearly two years, 11th in the Premier League

:17:12. > :17:15.in his first season, sacked in April 2014

:17:16. > :17:20.Since then he has moved to Brighton, rebuilding his reputation

:17:21. > :17:25.Victory tonight would seal the title in his first game

:17:26. > :17:29.Looking forward to it because, irrespective of anything you...

:17:30. > :17:32.work with a lot of people there, you have a lot of friends

:17:33. > :17:34.and you always look forward to going back to seeing them,

:17:35. > :17:37.and of course it is certainly nice to go back there perhaps

:17:38. > :17:47.And here is the irony - when Hughton left three years ago

:17:48. > :17:56.Five games to play, many thought his dismissal was harsh.

:17:57. > :18:00.Others felt they delayed for too long.

:18:01. > :18:09.I do not think we have got much choice because four points from six

:18:10. > :18:12.games is relegation form and so we needed to do

:18:13. > :18:21.To do it with five games to go, I can't quite understand it

:18:22. > :18:25.but hopefully it will give Neil a good chance to save the club.

:18:26. > :18:27.Youth coach Neil Adams took charge, he didn't save them,

:18:28. > :18:30.But Chris Hughton, a respected figure, will be

:18:31. > :18:34.I am a little bit biased because I like Chris anyway and have

:18:35. > :18:37.known him for a long time and I think he is

:18:38. > :18:44.I think he has done a great job and he does it

:18:45. > :18:49.The motivation for them will the their season has not turned

:18:50. > :18:53.They are all playing for that bit of pride

:18:54. > :18:56.with a new manager coming in, making a point, playing up

:18:57. > :19:00.against a very good team in ourselves and wanting to win.

:19:01. > :19:02.From Brighton, the Championship is at stake.

:19:03. > :19:04.Norwich fans would not want to deny him but delay him,

:19:05. > :19:21.Widely regarded of one of the true gentleman and football, as this

:19:22. > :19:27.month, the follow-on, -- from Norwich defender. No one would

:19:28. > :19:31.begrudge him his success? Definitely not. He has proved over the past few

:19:32. > :19:35.years he is a good manager and has gone down to Brighton and done a

:19:36. > :19:40.magnificent job, fully deserved and I'm sure they will get promoted as

:19:41. > :19:44.champions but hopefully not tonight. Not very Norwich fans were

:19:45. > :19:48.enthralled with his conservative approach when he was here but at

:19:49. > :19:53.Brighton he has been a very entertaining. I used to store has

:19:54. > :20:00.virtues and felt the supporters and the board got it wrong. -- extol his

:20:01. > :20:05.virtues. People said he was pragmatic in his approach but he

:20:06. > :20:09.played with two wingers all the time which I consider pragmatic --

:20:10. > :20:13.attacking. But he has done the same down at Brighton and has scored

:20:14. > :20:18.goals, which she was doing here. I think the board should go -- showed

:20:19. > :20:23.a lack of foresight and got rid of them to quickly and gave into the

:20:24. > :20:31.supporters, as it were. I think if they held on longer he would have

:20:32. > :20:37.brought the same success to Norwich. It was 5-0 in the reverse fixture,

:20:38. > :20:40.the public about that. They are full of confidence at the moment what is

:20:41. > :20:46.knowledge are very inconsistent at the moment which has been their

:20:47. > :20:53.season, very in and out and nothing sustainable. Thank you. You can

:20:54. > :20:56.follow tonight's match on your local radio station.

:20:57. > :20:59.If you watch professional football you will have seen different

:21:00. > :21:00.managers chewing aggressively, screaming instructions,

:21:01. > :21:03.It's all bout pressure, and it means they can

:21:04. > :21:07.But how about jumping out of a plane at 13,000 feet?

:21:08. > :21:10.Luton Town's Nathan Jones has done just that, taking part in a skydive

:21:11. > :21:14.It took place at the Hinton airfield in Northamptonshire.

:21:15. > :21:18.Our Sports Editor Jonathan Park was there.

:21:19. > :21:19.On the sidelines, Nathan Jones usually control.

:21:20. > :21:22.But it is a different story when there is a parachute involved.

:21:23. > :21:24.I think the apprehension is getting up there,

:21:25. > :21:30.But as long as you get down safely I don't mind.

:21:31. > :21:32.There is a first time for everything.

:21:33. > :21:38.And for Luton's manager at least he had another rookie by his side -

:21:39. > :21:49.It came from a drunken bid at the Luton Town Christmas dinner.

:21:50. > :21:57.I put my hands air the and bid for a skydive with Nathan Jones.

:21:58. > :22:00.With an Luton flying high, this was a nice diversion,

:22:01. > :22:02.at 13,000 feet, from the pressures of the promotion run in.

:22:03. > :22:12.My life is in this geezer's hands here.

:22:13. > :22:14.Conditions at the airfield in Northamptonshire were perfect.

:22:15. > :22:16.Time now for Nathan and Mark to head skywards.

:22:17. > :22:42.That is absolutely mental, jumping out of a plane.

:22:43. > :22:44.Nothing prepares you for when you just exit the plane.

:22:45. > :22:49.Now I understand why people say, that people have done it.

:22:50. > :23:00.I'm very proud of him and I am pleased he is back down safely.

:23:01. > :23:03.So one ticked off the bucket list and thousands raised for the club's

:23:04. > :23:07.charity Level Trust, which helps young people living

:23:08. > :23:12.To have someone as high-profile as Nathan Jones jumping out

:23:13. > :23:15.of an aeroplane for us this afternoon really is the icing

:23:16. > :23:18.on the cake of that partnership and all the club has done for us.

:23:19. > :23:21.Well, job done, now going up, not down, is all that matters

:23:22. > :23:45.to all of them although I have to say the landing was not as good as

:23:46. > :23:53.euros! -- not as good as yours. It was lovely weather but I have a

:23:54. > :23:58.feeling, will stay that way? I have a lot to talk about. Let's start

:23:59. > :24:04.with this morning, a beautiful sunrise. For most of us we had guys

:24:05. > :24:11.like this from most of the day and you can see why the satellite

:24:12. > :24:16.picture -- skies like this. That will change overnight with a cold

:24:17. > :24:22.front moving down bringing outbreaks of mainly light and patchy rain. Not

:24:23. > :24:27.for everyone and not amounting to match. Because that is a lot of

:24:28. > :24:32.cloud the frost for the night with light of a Babel winds. This is

:24:33. > :24:39.called from bringing the overnight rain quickly clears to the south.

:24:40. > :24:44.That leaves us with cloudy skies, a a showers from the north-west at a

:24:45. > :24:56.block of dry weather -- a few showers. Although on the North

:24:57. > :25:04.Norfolk coast. We finish with a few showers but a block of dry weather.

:25:05. > :25:09.That is Saturday, Sunday with high-pressure buildings are many of

:25:10. > :25:14.us it is another dry day, perhaps an isolated shower but a lot of fine

:25:15. > :25:21.and dry weather and hopefully some sunshine. Highs of 14 Celsius. A

:25:22. > :25:26.chilly start on Sunday, possibly frost for some of us. That goes from

:25:27. > :25:31.London also for the London Marathon. But conditions are looking rather

:25:32. > :25:36.good for that light winds and a fairly dry conditions. If the cloud

:25:37. > :25:40.breaks we might see more in the way of sunshine. All in all not too bad

:25:41. > :25:45.at all is good luck to everyone taking part. That is the weekend.

:25:46. > :25:52.Some showers on Saturday but largely dry and most of us Sunday will be

:25:53. > :25:57.another dry day. Monday is a cloudy start with some spots of rain, that

:25:58. > :26:01.should clear and sunny spells develop and as the sun comes out

:26:02. > :26:07.that could trigger one or two showers. Monday night will be

:26:08. > :26:13.bitterly cold. Temperatures could get down below freezing and Tuesday

:26:14. > :26:19.is a very different day. Feeling better be cold, winter showers of

:26:20. > :26:24.rain, sleet and possibly even snow which is not that unusual for April,

:26:25. > :26:29.actually, but quite a shock me think about balmy conditions we had the

:26:30. > :26:54.last few weeks. Goodbye. Why didn't we go

:26:55. > :27:00.to the library today? Because we don't have

:27:01. > :27:03.a library any more. Why? The school's had to make big cuts.

:27:04. > :27:09.Cuts like with a knife, miss? No, it means that the school

:27:10. > :27:13.can't afford to pay for things like the library any more or shows

:27:14. > :27:19.or books or school visits.
