:00:08. > :00:12.A fresh appeal from hospitals in this region

:00:13. > :00:16.NOT to go to accident and emergency unless your life is in danger.

:00:17. > :00:18.Many are struggling to cope with the high number of elderly

:00:19. > :00:22.patients and fear the crisis will get worse over New Year.

:00:23. > :00:28.There's also been a record demand for ambulances over Christmas.

:00:29. > :00:31.When a hospital says don't come to accident and emergency

:00:32. > :00:33.unless your condition is life or limb threatening,

:00:34. > :00:38.All beds here at the James Paget near Great Yarmouth are full.

:00:39. > :00:43.at A are having to wait up to five hours to be seen.

:00:44. > :00:46.Our staff are working relentlessly

:00:47. > :00:51.under extreme pressure to provide safe patient care.

:00:52. > :00:53.And are you able to keep up with that?

:00:54. > :00:57.we have to do the right thing for our patients.

:00:58. > :01:02.Northampton has no spare beds, Addenbrooke's and Cambridge says

:01:03. > :01:05.it's treating many older patients and the Lister in Stevenage,

:01:06. > :01:11.like many hospitals, is extremely busy.

:01:12. > :01:13.But this year we've seen another factor, Christmas Day

:01:14. > :01:18.and New Year's Day both fall on Sundays which means

:01:19. > :01:20.that effectively we have got two bank holiday weekends back to back

:01:21. > :01:24.and that also has consequences for the wider health care system.

:01:25. > :01:27.It means more perhaps look to the emergency services

:01:28. > :01:30.rather than their family doctor when they fall ill.

:01:31. > :01:33.The region's Ambulance Service has seen

:01:34. > :01:37.a record-breaking rise in 999 calls this Christmas.

:01:38. > :01:40.Between 7pm on Christmas Eve and 11pm on Boxing Day,

:01:41. > :01:44.the service received almost 7000 calls,

:01:45. > :01:46.up from just over 6000 the previous year.

:01:47. > :01:49.The reason for the increase isn't clear.

:01:50. > :01:51.Our crews are working 12-hour days and often

:01:52. > :01:54.they're going from one patient to another patient to another patient

:01:55. > :01:57.and then to a hospital and then to another patient and it's

:01:58. > :02:01.The message from paramedics and hospital

:02:02. > :02:02.doctors, make your GP, your local pharmacy,

:02:03. > :02:05.your first point of contact if you fall ill.

:02:06. > :02:08.Because the next few days will be a huge challenge

:02:09. > :02:10.for those on health care's emergency front line.

:02:11. > :02:19.Hundreds of people gathered on the beach at Leigh on Sea last

:02:20. > :02:22.night to remember two teenagers who died in a car crash on Tuesday.

:02:23. > :02:24.Paper lanterns and balloons were released and fireworks set off.

:02:25. > :02:29.Reegan Knight and Liam Phillips were both 17 years old.

:02:30. > :02:31.Southend United Football Club is also planning a tribute

:02:32. > :02:38.I feel devastated, one of my close mates is not here any more.

:02:39. > :02:41.I can't speak to him but I just want to give him

:02:42. > :02:44.this lovely sendoff so he knows up there that we are looking out

:02:45. > :02:53.A man's been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence

:02:54. > :02:56.of drugs after a three car crash in Suffolk this afternoon.

:02:57. > :02:59.Police were called at around 2.30 to the A-1065 near Barton Mills

:03:00. > :03:03.and found one of the three vehicles on its side in a hedge.

:03:04. > :03:06.A woman had to be airlifted to Addenbrooke's hospital

:03:07. > :03:12.The mother of the missing airman Corrie Mckeague has called

:03:13. > :03:14.on the police to search more buildings in the area

:03:15. > :03:17.He went missing three months ago after a night

:03:18. > :03:21.Nicola Urquhart says an area opposite where he was last seen

:03:22. > :03:28.But Suffolk Police say "extensive" searches have been made.

:03:29. > :03:31.The Norwich City manager Alex Neil has refused to comment on a report

:03:32. > :03:35.in the Sun newspaper that he'll get ?2 million if he's sacked.

:03:36. > :03:41.With eight defeats in the last ten league matches, he's under pressure.

:03:42. > :03:43.Very little is going right for Alex Neil just

:03:44. > :03:46.at the moment and the last thing he needed was to find his name

:03:47. > :03:49.and that of his chairman Ed Balls on the back page

:03:50. > :03:56.The paper claims Neil will get ?2 million if he gets sacked.

:03:57. > :04:00.The man himself wouldn't confirm or deny that.

:04:01. > :04:03.It's like anything else, I've never sat here and spoke about

:04:04. > :04:04.players' contracts and different things like that

:04:05. > :04:07.so I'm not going to sit here and speak about my contract

:04:08. > :04:12.Despite relegation from the Premier League last year,

:04:13. > :04:18.But eight defeats in the last ten League matches this season

:04:19. > :04:25.So, can the Canaries afford to sack him now?

:04:26. > :04:28.It's much more important that Norwich try and get back to the

:04:29. > :04:31.Premier League than it is maybe to have to pay a manager

:04:32. > :04:34.what he's owed, it's as simple as that.

:04:35. > :04:37.Because it would cost a lot more to stay in

:04:38. > :04:39.the Championship or even worse, as we've seen with Norwich

:04:40. > :04:42.in the past, to go down another league than it is

:04:43. > :04:45.to maybe change the manager and it's a case of how long

:04:46. > :04:52.Contrary to suggestions in the local media,

:04:53. > :04:53.I don't bury my head in the sand.

:04:54. > :04:55.I know exactly where we are, what's gone on.

:04:56. > :04:58.I know that it's unacceptable and we need to do better.

:04:59. > :05:01.I can assure you I feel that more than anybody else.

:05:02. > :05:04.Mainly because I'm a winner, I want to win games,

:05:05. > :05:12.Brentford tomorrow, Derby at Carrow Road on Monday.

:05:13. > :05:15.Two wins and the pressure eases but if the results go against

:05:16. > :05:21.the Canaries, it's unlikely to be a happy New Year for Alex Neil.

:05:22. > :05:28.Mike Liggins, BBC Look East, at the Norwich City training ground.

:05:29. > :05:30.In football, two of our teams were in action tonight.

:05:31. > :05:33.Ipswich beat Bristol City 2-1, a goal in the final minutes taking

:05:34. > :05:41.Let's see how the weather's looking now.

:05:42. > :05:54.No snow to talk about. Instead, it is fog and frost we are contending

:05:55. > :05:58.with. The Met office have got a yellow warning out of the fog until

:05:59. > :06:02.tomorrow morning. Reduced visibility across the region. It is quite misty

:06:03. > :06:05.and murky in many parts of the region right now. As we go to

:06:06. > :06:09.tonight, we might see things improving in the north and the west.

:06:10. > :06:16.Temperatures not far off freezing but not as cold as last night. A bit

:06:17. > :06:22.of a great start to New Year's Eve. -- grey. Maybe something a little

:06:23. > :06:25.bit brighter in the afternoon. Eight or nine Celsius. Warmer than today.

:06:26. > :06:30.If you are heading out tomorrow evening in the run-up to midnight,

:06:31. > :06:35.should rather dry and cloudy. Some rain spreading its way southwards

:06:36. > :06:42.Good evening. Looking ahead to 2017 it looks like we will start off on a

:06:43. > :06:48.cold note. This weather front will move south in the next day or so

:06:49. > :06:52.bringing rain with it, but also much colder air following a lull behind.

:06:53. > :06:55.It will sweep the fog away. It's grey for some places this afternoon.

:06:56. > :06:56.You could hardly
