:00:15. > :00:21.Police issue new pictures as part of the appeal over the case of the

:00:22. > :00:27.missing airman Corrie McKeague. And one of East Anglia's last

:00:28. > :00:28.of the Japanese prisoner of war of the Japanese prisoner of war

:00:29. > :00:34.camps is laid to rest. Detectives investigating

:00:35. > :00:38.the disappearance of airman Corrie McKeague have today

:00:39. > :00:42.made their first arrest. Suffolk Police said

:00:43. > :00:44.a 26-year-old man was held on suspicion

:00:45. > :00:47.of perverting the course of justice. The police also released new video

:00:48. > :00:50.of potential witnesses. The developments come

:00:51. > :00:51.as police prepare to search

:00:52. > :00:53.a rubbish tip near Cambridge. Suffolk police say the 26-year-old

:00:54. > :01:04.man they arrested this morning has They had been questioning

:01:05. > :01:08.him for most of the day, on suspicion of attempting

:01:09. > :01:11.to pervert the course of justice relating to what they say

:01:12. > :01:13.was information given 23-year-old Corrie McKeague,

:01:14. > :01:18.who is stationed at RAF Honington near Bury St Edmunds,

:01:19. > :01:21.was last picked up on CCTV in the town centre after a night out

:01:22. > :01:26.with friends on 24th September. He was seen it going in but not

:01:27. > :01:29.emerging from Today, police made their first

:01:30. > :01:34.arrest in connection It is incredibly difficult not

:01:35. > :01:40.to read into it that this could be But for my own sanity,

:01:41. > :01:49.and that of the boys, we are really, really trying just to wait

:01:50. > :01:51.for the update from the police and keep focused on the search

:01:52. > :01:55.for next week. Police stressed that the man

:01:56. > :01:58.arrested was NOT the driver of a bin lorry which

:01:59. > :02:00.delivered refuse to this massive landfill

:02:01. > :02:03.site near Cambridge. It had collected a bin from the area

:02:04. > :02:08.where Corrie was last seen. The fear is he may have

:02:09. > :02:10.fallen into or had been placed in one of these

:02:11. > :02:12.commercial bins in the Horseshoe car

:02:13. > :02:15.park behind some shops. Mindful that part of this

:02:16. > :02:18.120-acre landfill site is about to be searched,

:02:19. > :02:25.a ?50,000 reward put up by Nicola Urquhart

:02:26. > :02:47.was withdrawn last month. Police say a huge effort

:02:48. > :02:47.is going on behind the scenes Today, they released CCTV footage

:02:48. > :02:47.of two remaining individuals who were seen in the area

:02:48. > :02:47.at the time the airman disappeared Both are seen as

:02:48. > :02:47.potential witnesses. Police expect to begin

:02:48. > :02:47.searching this landfill site behind me in the next

:02:48. > :02:48.seven days or so. But first they have to move large

:02:49. > :02:50.amounts of bulk materials and create safe access routes

:02:51. > :02:54.onto the landfall for their offices. Now, they accept that there is every

:02:55. > :02:57.chance that Corrie McKeague may be dead and that his body may be buried

:02:58. > :03:01.in the site somewhere behind me. It is expected to

:03:02. > :03:18.last several weeks. Next tonight, prayers will be said

:03:19. > :03:21.at the local church in Stowmarket in Suffolk tomorrow after a couple

:03:22. > :03:24.were found dead in their home. Detectives say they are treating

:03:25. > :03:26.it as a murder inquiry but are not looking for anyone else

:03:27. > :03:29.in connection with the incident. Post-mortems concluded that

:03:30. > :03:31.Sarah Pitkin was stabbed to death while her husband Richard

:03:32. > :03:33.died from hanging. Mike Liggins is in

:03:34. > :03:46.the town for us now. This is stoked Acland Street in the

:03:47. > :03:53.town, where the Pitkins lived and where their bodies were found on

:03:54. > :03:55.Sunday lunchtime. Tonight Suffolk police have formally identified the

:03:56. > :03:56.couple and confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in

:03:57. > :04:01.connection with their deaths. Flowers were laid at

:04:02. > :04:04.the doorstep of the Pitkins' house today with friends just trying

:04:05. > :04:06.to work out what lay behind the deaths of Sarah

:04:07. > :04:08.and Richard Pitkin. The couple had moved with their four

:04:09. > :04:16.children from London Michael Egan is the vicar

:04:17. > :04:23.of St Peter and St Mary's He said many in the community have

:04:24. > :04:31.shed tears in the last few days. Since Sunday when the news

:04:32. > :04:33.came through, clearly, there was a sense of shock

:04:34. > :04:37.throughout the whole town and with the most recent news,

:04:38. > :04:48.I think people are just confused confused as to why or how it

:04:49. > :04:51.happened, whatever happened. According to Suffolk Police,

:04:52. > :04:58.Sarah Pitkin died from multiple stab wounds.

:04:59. > :05:01.Richard was found hanged. Tomorrow, prayers will be said

:05:02. > :05:16.at St Peter's for both families. Sarah Pitkin worked at the Saint

:05:17. > :05:21.Elizabeth Hospice charity shop in the town. The daily charity issued a

:05:22. > :05:25.statement. It said staff were shocked and saddened to hear of her

:05:26. > :05:29.hospice for four years, and made a hospice for four years, and made a

:05:30. > :05:33.huge difference during that time. She was a an creative and brought a

:05:34. > :05:38.real sense of fun to the shop. She will be sadly missed Arsenal. -- by

:05:39. > :05:41.us all. Next tonight a pledge from Suffolk

:05:42. > :05:43.police keep people who live

:05:44. > :05:45.in the countryside safe from crime. for having fewer bobbies

:05:46. > :05:48.on the beat in rural areas. Now the force is planning

:05:49. > :05:50.to deploy more mounted volunteers

:05:51. > :05:52.in remote areas. The key focus of this new strategy

:05:53. > :05:58.is ensuring a visible presence -

:05:59. > :06:00.and that means mixing horsepower, to help patrol the areas

:06:01. > :06:03.which are tucked away We don't give chase or do

:06:04. > :06:08.anything like that. I would always say to people,

:06:09. > :06:14.you know, if something just doesn't seem right because you've got that

:06:15. > :06:18.gut feeling, just call it in. As well as the volunteers,

:06:19. > :06:20.the three-year plan will also see specially-trained police officers,

:06:21. > :06:24.13 in total, effectively embedded in neighbourhoods, on the ground,

:06:25. > :06:28.on the case with rural crime, whether it is lead

:06:29. > :06:29.theft from churches, But the underlying mix

:06:30. > :06:35.of crimes is a complex one, often fuelled by rural isolation

:06:36. > :06:39.and deprivation, and including domestic violence and exploitation

:06:40. > :06:44.of the young and the vulnerable. Talk to me about response time,

:06:45. > :06:47.because a lot of farmers tell me that once they report a crime,

:06:48. > :06:50.by the time your officers get there, Can you give maybe

:06:51. > :06:54.a much faster response? The target time is 15 minutes

:06:55. > :06:57.for response in the urban areas We have got a bit of work

:06:58. > :07:02.to do in one or two areas in rural communities

:07:03. > :07:04.and that is what we are looking at at the moment and that will be

:07:05. > :07:06.addressed The force has 1,500 square miles

:07:07. > :07:11.to cover and admits that criminals too often see the countryside

:07:12. > :07:15.as a place for easy pickings. The funeral took place today

:07:16. > :07:25.of a decorated war veteran. Harold Lock, who was 93,

:07:26. > :07:29.was the last known survivor of the sinking of HMS Jupiter

:07:30. > :07:36.in 1942 in the Battle of Java Sea. He was captured as a teenager

:07:37. > :07:39.by the Japanese - and imprisoned in terrible conditions until the end

:07:40. > :07:41.of the war. Former hostage Terry Waite described

:07:42. > :07:47.Mr Lock as "the salt of the earth". Harold Lock's last journey, arriving

:07:48. > :07:50.at the West Suffolk crematorium to the strains of

:07:51. > :07:55.The White Cliffs Of Dover. Harold was a boy sailor aboard

:07:56. > :08:01.the destroyer HMS Jupiter when it struck a mine

:08:02. > :08:08.and sank off Java in 1942. He swam 20 hours, 15 miles

:08:09. > :08:12.to an island and was captured by the Japanese, eventually released

:08:13. > :08:18.in 1945 at the age of 21. He was the last man standing

:08:19. > :08:21.of that particular ship. At the Heritage Centre in Sudbury

:08:22. > :08:23.where he lived, It is his experience

:08:24. > :08:32.as a prisoner of war. He weighed under six

:08:33. > :08:37.stone when he was liberated. He writes, "death has become

:08:38. > :08:39.commonplace, we were getting "like robots, all feeling

:08:40. > :08:42.is disappearing except "It is strange how

:08:43. > :08:47.precious everything "seems when you are on the verge

:08:48. > :08:51.of death, as most of us were." He was discharged from

:08:52. > :08:53.the Navy with manic depression but rebuilt his life,

:08:54. > :09:01.marrying local girl Audrey in 1962. For a time, they ran a pub,

:09:02. > :09:05.managed a coal yard, and he was a formidable

:09:06. > :09:07.darts player. For years he kept buried his

:09:08. > :09:12.experiences in the Far East. It did affect him.

:09:13. > :09:14.Without a doubt. But he tried to keep it

:09:15. > :09:17.hidden a lot of the time. No, I have never in 54

:09:18. > :09:27.years, seen him cry. There were tributes from fellow

:09:28. > :09:29.members of the Order of Buffaloes and from former hostage Terry Waite,

:09:30. > :09:32.with whom he travelled back to Java and

:09:33. > :09:36.Singapore years ago. By organising PoW reunions

:09:37. > :09:38.and fighting for compensation, he helped

:09:39. > :09:45.so many of his fellow captives. Just time to tell you about

:09:46. > :09:51.something happening tomorrow. A ceremony will mark

:09:52. > :09:52.a significant milestone in the construction of what will be

:09:53. > :09:55.one of Europe's largest centres The Quadram Insitute

:09:56. > :10:01.is a multi-million pound project and tomorrow Look East will be given

:10:02. > :10:04.access to the site. I'll leave you with the weather

:10:05. > :10:06.forecast from Julie, but from the rest of

:10:07. > :10:08.the team, goodnight. We have some outbreaks

:10:09. > :10:11.of rain tonight, heavy at times, but that rain will become

:10:12. > :10:17.confined to more northern parts, with the south becoming largely dry

:10:18. > :10:20.with clear spells developing. We are expecting the

:10:21. > :10:22.winds to pick up with a fresh, strong at times,

:10:23. > :10:24.West to south-westerly As this system pulls

:10:25. > :10:29.away onto the continent We will start to see the winds

:10:30. > :10:33.easing, but it looks like a We will start to see the winds

:10:34. > :10:37.easing, but it looks like a windy start of the day. Eventually the

:10:38. > :10:42.showers and rain should clear and everywhere will become dry with

:10:43. > :10:46.sunny spells developing. Temperatures, at best, around 10

:10:47. > :10:51.Celsius and by the afternoon those winds should ease to a much pressure

:10:52. > :10:55.south-westerly. Finishing the day dry with lots of clear skies. In a

:10:56. > :10:58.moment, the national forecast but I will leave you with the Outlook. One

:10:59. > :11:01.Friday, more rain pushing in from the south, some of it heavy.

:11:02. > :11:06.Saturday, rain first outlook. A whole load of 11 is. What

:11:07. > :11:12.does that mean? Maybe John Hammond will tell you.

:11:13. > :11:17.We're in for a bumpy ride. The weather chopping and changing

:11:18. > :11:21.keeping us on our toes. Rain never too far away from our crystal ball.

:11:22. > :11:25.There has been rain around today across southern areas. This band of

:11:26. > :11:26.wet weather pushing through Wales and the
