:00:07. > :00:08.Good evening, I'm Katherine Nash.

:00:09. > :00:12.First tonight, the sacking of Norwich City manager Alex Neil.

:00:13. > :00:15.A few hours ago, the club announced that it had terminated his contract.

:00:16. > :00:18.It follows a disappointing run of results which has left

:00:19. > :00:21.the Canaries well short of the promotion places

:00:22. > :00:27.The news comes on the eve of their home game against Blackburn.

:00:28. > :00:30.This from our sports reporter Tom Williams.

:00:31. > :00:38.Alex Neil guided Norwich to Premier League promotion

:00:39. > :00:42.Their return to the championships been inconsistent

:00:43. > :00:46.with the Canaries falling off the play off pace

:00:47. > :00:50.Is it the right decision to sack him?

:00:51. > :00:57.It's felt, to me, for a while like this is when,

:00:58. > :01:01.They had a run over Christmas where they lost eight out

:01:02. > :01:03.of ten league games, they dropped from top of the table

:01:04. > :01:06.to 12th and since then, Alex Neil has had the

:01:07. > :01:08.majority of the supporters, if not completely against him,

:01:09. > :01:12.In a statement, Norwich said, the board has taken

:01:13. > :01:15.the tough but unanimous decision, believing it's in the best interest

:01:16. > :01:19.of the club for a new manager to be in place through a crucial

:01:20. > :01:25.Alex Neil made an immense and immediate impact at Norwich,

:01:26. > :01:29.these scenes at Wembley after victory in the play-off final

:01:30. > :01:34.But in recent months, fans who once adored him

:01:35. > :01:36.had become increasingly agitated and the players'

:01:37. > :01:42.We seem to go 1-0 down, 2-0 down, 3-0 down

:01:43. > :01:46.It's like, you know, we almost quit, we don't play for each other,

:01:47. > :01:49.Following Saturday's 5-0 humiliation at Sheffield Wednesday,

:01:50. > :01:55.Well, the fact is, we just haven't played well enough.

:01:56. > :01:58.So I don't really know what you want me to say.

:01:59. > :02:00.The fact is, we went to Brighton and we got beat

:02:01. > :02:04.We've now went to Sheffield Wednesday and we've got beat and

:02:05. > :02:07.What you're basically saying is these players aren't

:02:08. > :02:12.The opportunity is there to get somebody in, to give them a good

:02:13. > :02:15.chance to look at the squad and makes some big decisions over which

:02:16. > :02:18.players are going to go and which players are going

:02:19. > :02:22.I think this is the start, this is the first of many changes

:02:23. > :02:25.we're going to see at Norwich City Football Club over the next

:02:26. > :02:29.First-team coach Alan Irvine is in caretaker charge, the Canaries

:02:30. > :02:31.now without a chief executive, with scant hope of promotion.

:02:32. > :02:32.Managerless, some would say rudderless.

:02:33. > :02:35.The board will hope Norwich can now get back on course.

:02:36. > :02:39.Earlier I spoke to Darren Eadie, a former Norwich City player.

:02:40. > :02:42.I asked him for his reaction to the news that the club

:02:43. > :02:48.Well, I guess I'm a little surprised.

:02:49. > :02:51.I'm a little surprised it didn't happen after the poor run

:02:52. > :02:56.But I am probably a little bit more surprised now,

:02:57. > :02:58.that they've sacked him now considering the backing

:02:59. > :03:01.they were only giving him a week or so ago.

:03:02. > :03:05.I kind of felt if they were going to do it, it was going to

:03:06. > :03:08.happen before and all the noises coming out of Carrow Road were,

:03:09. > :03:11."He's our man, he's the one to take us forward for the next so many

:03:12. > :03:15.years and he'll do it his way and he needs to change the players,

:03:16. > :03:18.have a bit of a clear out," and that was kind of the focus,

:03:19. > :03:21.it seemed it was all the noises that were coming out

:03:22. > :03:26.But in a press conference earlier, Alex Neil said that he was

:03:27. > :03:30.So do you think this is the right decision to make?

:03:31. > :03:32.Well, I don't expect him to say anything else.

:03:33. > :03:34.I don't think he's ever going to come out

:03:35. > :03:36.and say, "Actually, I think I'm struggling.

:03:37. > :03:39.They gave him the opportunity, things

:03:40. > :03:41.started to turn around again but the poor run

:03:42. > :03:44.of form in recent games, I think, they had no other choice.

:03:45. > :03:48.So who do you think will take on this job now?

:03:49. > :03:52.I think they've missed out on a few in recent months.

:03:53. > :03:55.Somebody who probably does stand out a little bit to me,

:03:56. > :03:57.only because I know him, is Gary Rowett.

:03:58. > :03:59.I played with him at Leicester, a very kind of true pro,

:04:00. > :04:01.traditional pro, does things right, prepares right,

:04:02. > :04:04.He's a defender and also defenders tend to

:04:05. > :04:07.build from the back when they're building their teams and that's

:04:08. > :04:09.an area where Norwich have struggled for probably

:04:10. > :04:10.two or three, four, maybe five years now.

:04:11. > :04:12.So certainly someone like that would be given

:04:13. > :04:14.an opportunity and I'm sure he would love

:04:15. > :04:24.Controversial plans have been announced today to install

:04:25. > :04:26.traffic lights at one of the region's busiest junctions.

:04:27. > :04:29.The Fiveways roundabout on the A11 is a main road joining up

:04:30. > :04:35.Local people insist it will help them cross

:04:36. > :04:41.But there are concerns it will actually slow traffic down.

:04:42. > :04:44.This from our political correspondent Andrew Sinclair.

:04:45. > :04:48.Some 30,000 vehicles a day use the Barton Mills roundabout.

:04:49. > :04:51.While hold-ups on the main A11 are short lived, for those trying

:04:52. > :04:54.to cross from nearby towns like Mildenhall, it can take a long time

:04:55. > :05:02.There have been quite a few accidents on that

:05:03. > :05:04.roundabout, like with people not going in and out

:05:05. > :05:08.Today, the Transport Secretary announced

:05:09. > :05:13.funding for a number of congestion relief schemes

:05:14. > :05:17.and he's going to spend ?400,000 putting traffic lights at Fiveways.

:05:18. > :05:20.It is a junction that sees congestion too often.

:05:21. > :05:23.This will smooth the flow of traffic through it,

:05:24. > :05:26.it will help the overall flow of traffic up the A11.

:05:27. > :05:30.It's one part of a programme of smaller

:05:31. > :05:33.schemes to sit alongside the big investments we're making.

:05:34. > :05:36.But will traffic lights really relieve congestion?

:05:37. > :05:39.Some regular users of the A11 aren't impressed.

:05:40. > :05:45.Well, it's just going to make it clog up even more, isn't it?

:05:46. > :05:47.Today, local councillors were telling reporters

:05:48. > :05:51.though a little disruptive, will make Fiveways safer.

:05:52. > :05:52.They say it will only be an interim measure

:05:53. > :05:58.until money is found to divert the A11 away from here.

:05:59. > :06:00.The A11 is an important trunk road, we don't want

:06:01. > :06:03.to slow down traffic on the A11 and clearly having

:06:04. > :06:13.Local people are pleased with today's news.

:06:14. > :06:16.A11 drivers will nervously wait to see what happens.

:06:17. > :06:22.the world-renowned architect Sir Norman Foster

:06:23. > :06:24.has been chosen to design three new crossings at the port

:06:25. > :06:37.Today, images of the multi-million pound

:06:38. > :06:40.It's hoped they'll help ease traffic congestion in town.

:06:41. > :06:43.That's it for now but i'll leave you with the weather.

:06:44. > :06:51.It's a largely dry night, perhaps a little bit of drizzle. Some patchy

:06:52. > :06:56.mist and fog so some of us. Very mild, temperatures for many of us

:06:57. > :07:01.will not drop any lower than seven Celsius. Tomorrow, any mist and fog

:07:02. > :07:05.should clear and then dry leading up from France will help break the

:07:06. > :07:10.piled up. Some decent sunny spells developing. Temperature is quite

:07:11. > :07:16.widely around 14 or 15 Celsius, in the best of the sunshine, perhaps 18

:07:17. > :07:19.Celsius. A different day on Sunday, cloudy with outbreak of rain for a

:07:20. > :07:23.time. Some of this rain could be on the heavy side. Hopefully we will

:07:24. > :07:26.have some fine and dry weather also. Sarah will have the national

:07:27. > :07:27.forecast but I will leave you with the outlook and high pressure in

:07:28. > :07:45.charge on Monday and Tuesday, Where the sunshine broke through to

:07:46. > :07:48.the North of Cornwall temperatures rose to 17 degrees under the blue

:07:49. > :07:53.skies. For many of us the cloud didn't break up through the day,

:07:54. > :07:58.keeping temperatures pegged at around about 13 degrees. That was

:07:59. > :08:00.the high today in the London region. Mild over night with the blanket of

:08:01. > :08:02.cloud around. Most places
