:00:12. > :00:17.of a flat in Norwich in the war against drug dealers from London.

:00:18. > :00:22.A jewel in the crown of the region's economy is sold to America.

:00:23. > :00:25.And just like Forest Gump - the charity fundraiser

:00:26. > :00:39.I'm Vanessa Baffoe with the late edition of Look East.

:00:40. > :00:41.Police in Norfolk have carried out their biggest raid yet

:00:42. > :00:48.Operation Gravity was set up three months ago.

:00:49. > :00:51.136 people have been arrested and Class A drugs with a street

:00:52. > :00:58.This morning, Alex Dunlop joined police

:00:59. > :01:00.for two raids in the centre of Norwich.

:01:01. > :01:04.An inspector and his team come to call, but for the people in these

:01:05. > :01:10.flats it is anything but a gentle door knock.

:01:11. > :01:13.The search for heroin, cocaine and cash.

:01:14. > :01:16.Within seconds they find evidence of drug abuse -

:01:17. > :01:25.needles, syringes, pipes and pills and evidence of chaotic lifestyles.

:01:26. > :01:33.Criminal gangs are migrating north from London preying on teenagers

:01:34. > :01:38.This machete was found near the front door.

:01:39. > :01:45.This is common that they use these weapons.

:01:46. > :01:48.After just an hour, police have found enough to arrest six people,

:01:49. > :01:58.You are under arrest on suspicion of intent to supply class a drugs.

:01:59. > :02:08.A common practice for drug dealers who move into an area

:02:09. > :02:12.is so-called cuckooing, which is what has happened here.

:02:13. > :02:15.They befriend a vulnerable person and then take over the property

:02:16. > :02:19.and use it as a base from where they can deal drugs.

:02:20. > :02:24.More often than not the occupant is too afraid to tell them to leave.

:02:25. > :02:26.If I phone the police they will put the windows

:02:27. > :02:42.Violence, prostitution, shoplifting, burglaries,

:02:43. > :02:45.all our crime is generally because people are trying

:02:46. > :02:52.They come from London, other major cities.

:02:53. > :02:58.Operation Gravity intends to stifle that market for drug dealers,

:02:59. > :03:05.but that means these teams are in for the long haul.

:03:06. > :03:07.The man leading Operation Gravity is Chief Superintendant Dave Marshall

:03:08. > :03:10.Earlier, I asked him about the change in pattern

:03:11. > :03:24.Drug dealing goes in phases. At the moment we have lots of people,

:03:25. > :03:30.groups based in London coming out to Norfolk. They will befriend local

:03:31. > :03:35.drug users, to use their premises to deal drugs from and that causes

:03:36. > :03:38.quite a lot of tension so we will not only get violence and

:03:39. > :03:46.competition between the dealers themselves, but we get people

:03:47. > :03:51.receiving disproportionate violence. ?36,000 worth of drugs, that is a

:03:52. > :03:57.small amount. Are you finding that you were singing against the tide?

:03:58. > :04:01.The people coming up to Norfolk to deal drugs only carry small

:04:02. > :04:05.quantities. They don't want to get lots of drugs seized off them if

:04:06. > :04:10.caught, but we are taking those dealers out. We are taking those

:04:11. > :04:14.drugs of the market but we're finding out who those people are and

:04:15. > :04:19.reducing violence and gives an obituary to to safeguard those

:04:20. > :04:23.impacted. Talking about those impacted by it, as well as looking

:04:24. > :04:28.at the criminals bringing the drugs here to Norfolk, it is also about

:04:29. > :04:33.the victims. What are you doing to help them and make sure they come

:04:34. > :04:40.forward? Automatically what we are trying to do is reduced violence, so

:04:41. > :04:44.it is about getting the community to come forward with information. It is

:04:45. > :04:50.also about supporting those people who of honourable, people who want

:04:51. > :04:56.to change their lifestyle, because by reducing the number of people who

:04:57. > :05:00.want drugs, we reduced the market and safeguard people. We're working

:05:01. > :05:02.with a whole range of partners to give that support to people.

:05:03. > :05:06.The leader of the UK Independence Party on Norfolk County Council

:05:07. > :05:11.Party sources say Toby Coke stood down following

:05:12. > :05:17.He was a leading member of the so called rainbow alliance,

:05:18. > :05:24.which ran the County Council in Norfolk for four years.

:05:25. > :05:25.Another of the region's leading high-tech firms

:05:26. > :05:29.E2V in Chelmsford is being bought by an American company

:05:30. > :05:36.Well, our business correspondent Richard Bond has

:05:37. > :05:40.It's one of the jewels in the crown of the region's economy.

:05:41. > :05:45.E2v of Chelmsford might not be a household name, but Nasa,

:05:46. > :05:49.Boeing and Airbus use its sensors and semiconductors and now this

:05:50. > :05:54.British high-tech star is about to fall into foreign hands

:05:55. > :05:58.thanks to a ?600 million takeover by an American firm.

:05:59. > :06:04.It grew out of Marconi and for many years was known

:06:05. > :06:11.It's the latest British high-tech firm from this region to fall

:06:12. > :06:15.under foreign ownership, but should we care?

:06:16. > :06:19.Quite a few people cared when Cambridge -based Arm Holdings

:06:20. > :06:31.The chip designer was bought by the Japanese.

:06:32. > :06:33.Does it matter if our high-tech firms are bought

:06:34. > :06:37.If you look at the companies that are acquiring our local businesses,

:06:38. > :06:39.they are major multinationals with huge resources,

:06:40. > :06:41.so that gives a big opportunity for further investment

:06:42. > :06:45.The American company buying E2v is called Teledyne.

:06:46. > :06:48.It specialises in defence electronics, aerospace

:06:49. > :06:53.It's a great compliment to E2v and all it has achieved

:06:54. > :06:58.over its various incarnations that we have this American

:06:59. > :07:06.We want to see it remain in Chelmsford, we want to see

:07:07. > :07:08.investment continued in developing the company, developing products

:07:09. > :07:11.there and we are hopeful that it will be good news for E2v

:07:12. > :07:13.as an organisation and Chelmsford as a city.

:07:14. > :07:16.While a small number of head office jobs are expected to be lost,

:07:17. > :07:20.the vast majority of staff are likely to be kept on.

:07:21. > :07:23.The company's strength in growing high-tech markets should see to

:07:24. > :07:29.As a mark of respect to those killed and injured

:07:30. > :07:33.in the Westminster attack, City Hall in Norwich is being lit up

:07:34. > :07:40.The tribute will continue until early next week.

:07:41. > :07:43.Three years ago, Dave Reading smoked 60 a day

:07:44. > :07:53.and now he's hoping to beat the world record

:07:54. > :08:00.for running the 837 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats.

:08:01. > :08:04.In just three years, Dave has become a running machine.

:08:05. > :08:07.Pounding the pavements at steady speed.

:08:08. > :08:12.For him it really is much, much more of a marathon than a sprint.

:08:13. > :08:21.I was a heavy smoker and gave up and running helped with the craving.

:08:22. > :08:24.Trouble is I did not know where to stop.

:08:25. > :08:28.He is now taking on a truly epic challenge running all the way

:08:29. > :08:32.from Lands End to John O'Groats raising money for the charity

:08:33. > :08:40.You are trying to run 837 miles in eight and half days,

:08:41. > :08:54.It is a long way so we will see what happens.

:08:55. > :08:59.At home, his wife and eight children keep him busy.

:09:00. > :09:04.He could barely make it up the stairs.

:09:05. > :09:12.I thought he was stupid but it is inspiring.

:09:13. > :09:25.We have a toilet on-board, cooking facilities, a small bed

:09:26. > :09:33.for Dave to have a rest on if he needs to have a lie down.

:09:34. > :09:42.I will run four marathons a day so that is the equivalent of 33

:09:43. > :09:50.The record stands at just over nine days.

:09:51. > :09:56.His attempt to beat it already makes him a hero.

:09:57. > :10:08.Alex is next with the weather but it's goodnight from me.

:10:09. > :10:17.Good evening. It is a pretty settled outlook with fine spring weather on

:10:18. > :10:21.the way. At the moment there is some cloud coming in from the North sea.

:10:22. > :10:26.A slightly brisk north-easterly breeze continuing meaning

:10:27. > :10:32.temperatures not dropping as low as they could. Along the coast six or 7

:10:33. > :10:38.degrees. Further inland, four or five Celsius. High-pressure

:10:39. > :10:41.dominating the scene. Cloud around first thing but good spells of

:10:42. > :10:46.sunshine through the day. That wind will still be present so it will be

:10:47. > :10:51.cooler on the coast, but it should feel warmer in the shelter, around

:10:52. > :10:58.ten or 11 Celsius. The outlook- another fine day on the way for

:10:59. > :10:59.Saturday. More cloud and cooler for Sunday
