:00:00. > :00:00.Hello and welcome to the Look East late news.

:00:00. > :00:08.Jobs at risk in the troubled children's services department

:00:09. > :00:13.The price war between budget airlines at Stansted

:00:14. > :00:28.And following the warmest day of the year so far, what do the next few

:00:29. > :00:32.days have in store? I will be here with your local forecast.

:00:33. > :00:37.A union is warning that up to 80 jobs could be at risk

:00:38. > :00:40.at Norfolk County Council's children's services department.

:00:41. > :00:43.The news comes just hours before the latest interim

:00:44. > :00:48.In the past, the department has come under intense criticism.

:00:49. > :00:58.Katherine Nash is outside county hall in Norwich now.

:00:59. > :01:05.There has been no confirmation from Norfolk County Council as to the

:01:06. > :01:10.number of those possible redundancies within children's

:01:11. > :01:14.services, but what we do know is that education services could be

:01:15. > :01:19.restructured as Italy's to save ?4 million due to a cut in funding from

:01:20. > :01:24.central government. Those financial pressures come at a time when there

:01:25. > :01:25.are pressures to make improvements following a string of poor Ofsted

:01:26. > :01:27.reports. Norfolk children's services has been

:01:28. > :01:30.in and out of the headlines. Repeatedly judged by Ofsted

:01:31. > :01:32.as inadequate, it has struggled There have been complaints

:01:33. > :01:37.from foster carers, MPs have called for change and there have been

:01:38. > :01:41.a number of people in charge. Matt Dunkley is director of

:01:42. > :01:44.children's services at the moment. Moving from a similar

:01:45. > :01:48.post in east Sussex, he took up the role on an interim

:01:49. > :01:52.basis in February. He is the fifth person

:01:53. > :01:55.to take control since 2013. Today, news of possible job losses

:01:56. > :01:58.within the department A surprise to Jonathan Dunning,

:01:59. > :02:04.a union representative, concerned that up to 80 jobs

:02:05. > :02:06.could go because of a loss We knew nothing about this until one

:02:07. > :02:13.of our members told us and it's a 4 million scale of cuts,

:02:14. > :02:16.so it is very, very significant, so for us not to be aware of it

:02:17. > :02:19.in advance is pretty shocking. We still don't fully understand why

:02:20. > :02:22.the savings have to be made. Millions of pounds, time and effort

:02:23. > :02:25.have been invested in Norfolk children's services to try

:02:26. > :02:29.and raise standards. Tomorrow, Ofsted will report back

:02:30. > :02:32.on its latest attempts to make improvements within a department

:02:33. > :02:36.which in the past has How significant is this report

:02:37. > :02:55.from Ofsted tomorrow? It is a good indication of the

:02:56. > :02:59.department's performance since its last inspection. We understand the

:03:00. > :03:04.results of the report will not change that waiting of inadequate,

:03:05. > :03:09.but it will demonstrate whether the improvement measures have started to

:03:10. > :03:12.make a difference and we will not know the details until that report

:03:13. > :03:13.is released first thing tomorrow morning.

:03:14. > :03:15.Next tonight, a warning about the deepening crisis

:03:16. > :03:21.The British Medical Association says the NHS is at breaking point.

:03:22. > :03:24.The situation in our region is among the worst in the country.

:03:25. > :03:27.In Mid Essex, for example, there was a 12% drop in the number

:03:28. > :03:31.of GPs in just over a year - that's a loss of 27

:03:32. > :03:38.So in Essex, doctors are going into schools to try

:03:39. > :03:44.and encourage students to choose a career as a GP.

:03:45. > :03:48.This morning, Dr Siddiqui swapped his patients for pupils.

:03:49. > :03:51.I am really honoured to be talking to you today about a career

:03:52. > :03:57.Talking to over 20 sixth-form children in Raleigh,

:03:58. > :04:00.he tried to tempt them into a career as a GP.

:04:01. > :04:07.Nationally there is an issue in terms of recruitment of GPs

:04:08. > :04:10.and the GPs locally wanted to do something locally to promote general

:04:11. > :04:12.practice as a career to our young students,

:04:13. > :04:17.Since the NHS was formed in 1948, general practice has been the first

:04:18. > :04:20.port of call for people who become ill.

:04:21. > :04:24.While surgeries have modernised, the principal has stayed the same.

:04:25. > :04:28.But in Essex, surgeries like this one are struggling to find doctors

:04:29. > :04:31.to fill them and figures show the amount of GPs in

:04:32. > :04:38.This problem is made worse by a growing ageing population

:04:39. > :04:44.Doctors fear that if the recruitment crisis is not solved soon,

:04:45. > :04:50.it could start to affect the level of care they provide.

:04:51. > :04:54.Dr Siddiqui didn't shy away from the realities of the profession.

:04:55. > :04:56.It is tough and there is a lot of training

:04:57. > :05:00.that is involved and very long hours and a long working week.

:05:01. > :05:03.Are GPs talking young students out of becoming GPs?

:05:04. > :05:06.I sincerely hope that is not the case and that is not

:05:07. > :05:08.the experience I have had in particular.

:05:09. > :05:11.I can see all the different specialities I could go

:05:12. > :05:14.into because I haven't completely made my mind up.

:05:15. > :05:22.With training to work in his profession taking over

:05:23. > :05:26.a decade, this will not stop the gradual decline quickly.

:05:27. > :05:28.Health bosses say they already have problems recruiting and this

:05:29. > :05:31.could cause bigger problems for people trying

:05:32. > :05:39.We asked the Department of Health for an interview but they declined.

:05:40. > :05:44.In a statement they said: "We remain committed to an extra 5,000 doctors

:05:45. > :06:06.Meanwhile, the Chief Executive of Stansted has today defended

:06:07. > :06:10.after a protest by 17 people that meant flights had to be diverted

:06:11. > :06:13.The group was campaigning against the deportation of people

:06:14. > :06:18.The nine women and eight men have been charged and released on bail.

:06:19. > :06:22.They'll appear before magistrates next month.

:06:23. > :06:26.Where the breach actually happened was in a part of the campus,

:06:27. > :06:28.the airport campus, which wasn't in our main, critical

:06:29. > :06:31.part, so it was well away from the terminals.

:06:32. > :06:34.It was in an area, as I say, it was contained very quickly,

:06:35. > :06:38.it was within 100 metres of the fence line.

:06:39. > :06:41.I will point out it was a criminal act and the people involved,

:06:42. > :06:47.17 people, have been charged with criminal activity.

:06:48. > :06:50.The price war between budget airlines at Stansted

:06:51. > :06:55.Another low-cost carrier has arrived offering more than a million seats

:06:56. > :07:04.Jet2 is aiming to challenge the dominance of Ryanair and easyJet.

:07:05. > :07:10.Stansted's newest airline intends to give bigger rivals

:07:11. > :07:17.Manchester-based Jet2 will fly to 27 tourist destinations.

:07:18. > :07:21.There is a lack of package holiday products and flight only products

:07:22. > :07:28.We did a lot of research and our product is very much in demand.

:07:29. > :07:33.We have an award-winning tour operator, award-winning airline

:07:34. > :07:35.and we thought our product would be very successful in the east

:07:36. > :07:38.of England and the north and east of London.

:07:39. > :07:43.All Jet2 flights will be in brand-new Boeing 737 800s

:07:44. > :07:51.The company has created more than 250 new jobs at Stansted.

:07:52. > :07:54.It is a big change moving south from our predominantly

:07:55. > :07:57.northern bases of Leeds, Bradford, Manchester

:07:58. > :08:02.Now we've opened up today in Stansted and Birmingham.

:08:03. > :08:06.Jet2 will be competing head-on with Ryanair and easyJet on key

:08:07. > :08:14.I like to travel, always looking for the cheapest price,

:08:15. > :08:18.so if it gets cheaper, it would be perfect.

:08:19. > :08:22.The more accommodation there is the better.

:08:23. > :08:24.The same with the buses, the same with the trains.

:08:25. > :08:27.Jet2's arrival will upset the established order at Stansted.

:08:28. > :08:30.For years of Ryanair has been the number one airline

:08:31. > :08:35.here with easyJet second, but Jet2 wants to replace

:08:36. > :08:41.Its arrival is a big vote of confidence in Stansted

:08:42. > :08:45.at an uncertain time for the airline industry.

:08:46. > :08:48.Ryanair and easyJet have seen off challenges before,

:08:49. > :08:58.but with bookings going well, Jet2 can see only blue skies ahead.

:08:59. > :09:03.Well, earlier I asked Richard if he was surprised by Jet2's move.

:09:04. > :09:06.I think it's a very bold move indeed by Jet2.

:09:07. > :09:08.At this point in the economic cycle, they will be hoping

:09:09. > :09:11.that the recovery keeps going for many more years.

:09:12. > :09:15.Of course the whole airline sector is much affected by uncertainty

:09:16. > :09:20.at this time after the referendum, more than other sectors really,

:09:21. > :09:22.and of course they are pitting themselves against a couple

:09:23. > :09:26.of really entrenched, cash-rich rivals in easyJet and Ryanair.

:09:27. > :09:30.What impact do you think this will have on the growth of Stansted?

:09:31. > :09:35.Stansted has put on a spurt going from 17 million passengers

:09:36. > :09:39.a year to 24 million in just four years.

:09:40. > :09:43.I suppose this does confirm Stansted as a leisure, an overwhelmingly

:09:44. > :09:50.80% of its flights are leisure, only 20% business.

:09:51. > :09:53.They have wanted to boost business, but every time they get

:09:54. > :09:55.a new customer coming along, it seems to be focused

:09:56. > :10:06.Coming up now the weather with Julie, but from

:10:07. > :10:18.Overnight tonight we are expecting a few showers to move on through but

:10:19. > :10:23.there will be a lot of dry weather and after a very warm day,

:10:24. > :10:29.temperatures tonight will not flaunt lower than ten or 11 Celsius.

:10:30. > :10:34.Tomorrow a different day on the cards. We have this cold front

:10:35. > :10:41.pushing in from the West. That will introduce thicker cloud and

:10:42. > :10:46.outbreaks of rain. It will still be very warm, highs of around 17

:10:47. > :10:52.Celsius but not quite as warm as today where some parts reached 21

:10:53. > :10:59.Celsius. The main area of rain leaves away, but for many of us it

:11:00. > :11:01.will be a dry and to Friday. Here is the outlook: Some

:11:02. > :11:08.time of year. The chance of a shower on Saturday. Sunday will be dry.

:11:09. > :11:16.Hello, it will cool off over the next few days but that's not

:11:17. > :11:22.unusual, given how warm it was today. This was London. We just had

:11:23. > :11:24.the warmest March day since 2012, 20 two Celsius in the
