:00:34. > :00:37.Last July he was lured to a secluded lane in Harwich where two masked men

:00:38. > :00:43.His honour, Judge Gratwicke, described it as a vicious

:00:44. > :01:01.and cowardly attack in which Michael Beckwith stood

:01:02. > :01:04.no chance, as his life was battered out of him.

:01:05. > :01:07.She had been engaged to Michael Beckwith and was jealous

:01:08. > :01:10.because she thought he had been texting an old flame.

:01:11. > :01:13.She asked him to drive her to the spot where the attackers waited.

:01:14. > :01:15.Afterwards she rang 999, claiming she was an innocent bystander.

:01:16. > :01:17.How many people were there attacking him?

:01:18. > :01:22.They were covered and I could not see.

:01:23. > :01:24.But a jury at Chelmsford Crown Court heard she knew exactly

:01:25. > :01:27.who carried out the attack because she helped mastermind it.

:01:28. > :01:30.Scott Swift used to go out with Rebecca Ryan and he took part

:01:31. > :01:34.He then returned to the scene, spent some time almost pretending

:01:35. > :01:36.to tend to Michael and even making comments like, "Look

:01:37. > :01:41.You can imagine this sickening act of not only having been involved

:01:42. > :01:44.in the attack but then to come back to the scene and try and pretend

:01:45. > :01:48.Joe Smith, a teenager, was the second attacker.

:01:49. > :01:50.He was easily led and tagged along with Swift.

:01:51. > :01:52.Michael Beckwith lived with his mother, Iris.

:01:53. > :01:54.She was inconsolable and died shortly before the trial began.

:01:55. > :01:58.The family spoke of the huge impact both losses have had.

:01:59. > :02:00.Michael's murder has taken everything away from us.

:02:01. > :02:07.A son from a mother who could not take the strain of the trial,

:02:08. > :02:09.and passed away from a heart attack just before it started.

:02:10. > :02:13.An uncle from a nephew he never got to see grow into a young man,

:02:14. > :02:17.a cousin who we all could share a laugh witn and new we could turn

:02:18. > :02:24.Murderers Swift and Ryan were both jailed for life,

:02:25. > :02:28.Swift got a minimum of 24 years, Ryan 17.

:02:29. > :02:31.Joe Smith got 12 years for manslaughter, and a married

:02:32. > :02:36.couple who helped dispose of bloodstained clothing both got

:02:37. > :02:41.two and a half years for perverting the course of justice.

:02:42. > :02:44.is to be spent completing an abandoned building project

:02:45. > :02:49.has become a symbol of the 2008 economic crash.

:02:50. > :03:01.will have 149 apartments and a number of commercial units.

:03:37. > :03:44.So a lot of people will benefit, and not just the people

:03:47. > :03:50.Two years ago there were hopeful signs when a local developer,

:03:51. > :03:53.John Howard, took on this part-built site and put the work to complete

:03:54. > :03:56.Even getting to that point had been tough.

:03:57. > :03:59.Obviously it has been frustrating how long it has taken

:04:00. > :04:02.to get it off the ground, but now we are getting the tender

:04:03. > :04:04.out and things will start happening quite quickly.

:04:37. > :04:38.it could be transformed from total eyesore to totally eye-catching.
