0:00:00 > 0:00:01That's all from the BBC News at One - so it's goodbye from me -

0:00:03 > 0:00:05In Look East this lunchtime: Constituents in Essex

0:00:05 > 0:00:13give their backing to under fire MP Priti Patel.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15She's a very popular MP in Witham.

0:00:15 > 0:00:16So you think she'll get over this, will she?

0:00:16 > 0:00:24Hopefully.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26We'll have the latest on the Greater Anglia train strike.

0:00:26 > 0:00:36And I'll be here with the latest weather forecast.

0:00:36 > 0:00:41Good afternoon.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44As you have been hearing, the future of the Essex MP

0:00:44 > 0:00:47Priti Patel as a government minister is hanging in the balance.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49It comes after the controversy surrounding her meetings

0:00:49 > 0:00:50with official in Israel.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52She is expected in Downing Street some time today

0:00:52 > 0:00:53to discover her fate.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56But this morning in her constituency in Witham, people told Look East,

0:00:56 > 0:00:57she still has their support.

0:00:57 > 0:01:07Andrew Sinclair is there now.

0:01:10 > 0:01:14Whatever happens this afternoon, Priti Patel will still be the MP for

0:01:14 > 0:01:20Witham. It is a seat she holds with a majority of 18,000 500. She still

0:01:20 > 0:01:27had time to get involved in local causes which she often champions,

0:01:27 > 0:01:31campaigns to improve the rail line through Essex. A lot of negative

0:01:31 > 0:01:34headlines today in the newspapers but amongst her constituents, most

0:01:34 > 0:01:38of them are very supportive today.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41I think she's the best thing that has happened to this town.

0:01:41 > 0:01:42She's a very popular MP in Witham.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44So you think she'll get over this, will she?

0:01:45 > 0:01:46Hopefully.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49I think she was put in a position where she should have known better

0:01:49 > 0:01:51but at the same time, she's a good MP.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53This doesn't diminish your opinion of her?

0:01:53 > 0:01:54God, no.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56Well, she shouldn't have done what she did.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58It was all a bit underhand, I think, that.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00Best of luck if she can get away with it.

0:02:00 > 0:02:08There's many rogues who don't get caught, you know.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12At times like these, the views of the local party are very important

0:02:12 > 0:02:14and they too are being supportive.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17She's an exemplary MP and we selected her to serve

0:02:17 > 0:02:19the people of Witham, which she was elected to do and

0:02:19 > 0:02:21that's exactly what she has done.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23So even though she may have embarrassed the party,

0:02:23 > 0:02:24that doesn't bother you?

0:02:24 > 0:02:26Clearly, reputation is key to this but I'm really only concerned

0:02:26 > 0:02:36about her job as a member of Parliament for Witham.

0:02:39 > 0:02:44So, whatever happens this afternoon, she will still be MP for Witham but

0:02:44 > 0:02:48make no mistake, this is very embarrassing for an up and coming MP

0:02:48 > 0:02:52often talked about as a future party leader but she has been caught out

0:02:52 > 0:02:55and shown not to have been completely open about their

0:02:55 > 0:03:01activities. There are still unanswered questions I'm at some

0:03:01 > 0:03:03stage, she is going to have to answer those questions.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06The latest strike on Greater Anglia started this morning.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09It's the third time in the last six weeks that members of the RMT Union

0:03:09 > 0:03:12have walked out in the dispute over the future of train guards.

0:03:12 > 0:03:19So far services seem to be operating as normal.

0:03:19 > 0:03:24Another strike day, another RMT union picket line. In Clacton and in

0:03:24 > 0:03:29Ipswich. But this time the walk-out is for 48 hours. Greater Anglia says

0:03:29 > 0:03:33it is running a near full service and so far it says there have been

0:03:33 > 0:03:39no related cancellations. Commuters still seemed confused as to the

0:03:39 > 0:03:44detail of the dispute.Just having no guards on the train, which they

0:03:44 > 0:03:49are saying is a safety issue, beyond that, I'm not sure.I think it is

0:03:49 > 0:03:54good to have a guard on the train for safety for a woman travelling on

0:03:54 > 0:03:59her own.I have not been affected yet. But you get the feeling if it

0:03:59 > 0:04:04is not about safety then it is about workers' rights and pay, I guess.

0:04:04 > 0:04:08Greater Anglia says it will retain all its conductors in two years. The

0:04:08 > 0:04:17unions say the guards will lose their safety critical role. Guards

0:04:17 > 0:04:21across five train companies are walking out today. This dispute is

0:04:21 > 0:04:25now gaining more political traction. The Department for Transport told us

0:04:25 > 0:04:31the RMT is playing a political game. This dispute is not about jobs as

0:04:31 > 0:04:35the guards at Greater Anglia have had their jobs guaranteed for eight

0:04:35 > 0:04:39years. More it says is the dispute about safety.Unions are furious

0:04:39 > 0:04:45with that assertion. It is all about safety. They are sacrificing their

0:04:45 > 0:04:54wages about safety.Five weeks on, this dispute seems no closer to a

0:04:54 > 0:04:58resolution. This latest strike action will continue until midnight

0:04:58 > 0:05:02tomorrow. Further walk-outs look inevitable.

0:05:02 > 0:05:04Suffolk Police have released CCTV pictures of the moment a 79-year-old

0:05:04 > 0:05:06woman was attacked in Ipswich.

0:05:06 > 0:05:08It happened on Victoria Street at about 7.30 on Sunday evening.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11the woman had just parked her car when she was robbed

0:05:11 > 0:05:12near the Westgate Ward Social Club.

0:05:12 > 0:05:19The man escaped with her bag.

0:05:19 > 0:05:20The latest inspection by the health watchdog.

0:05:20 > 0:05:22has found that Northampton General Hospital has made

0:05:22 > 0:05:23significant improvements.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26It had been rated as requires improvement, but the new report

0:05:26 > 0:05:33rates the hospital as "good".

0:05:33 > 0:05:36At the front line of patient care, Michelle is trying to work out why

0:05:37 > 0:05:38Kevin has a shortage of breath.

0:05:38 > 0:05:44All in a hospital inspectors say is much improved.

0:05:44 > 0:05:46It's done huge amounts for morale.

0:05:46 > 0:05:47Our work...

0:05:47 > 0:05:51We have put in an awful lot of work in over the last three years.

0:05:51 > 0:05:52And I think that has really paid off.

0:05:52 > 0:05:54It's just really nice that is being rewarded.

0:05:54 > 0:05:57A&E has seen some of the biggest improvements at a time

0:05:57 > 0:05:58when attendances are up 10% year-on-year.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00There is still room to improve.

0:06:00 > 0:06:02Emergency wait time targets are still being missed.

0:06:02 > 0:06:07Aa are cancer care targets, but patients appear happy.

0:06:07 > 0:06:09As are cancer care targets, but patients appear happy.

0:06:09 > 0:06:11They have always been accommodating to visiting times

0:06:11 > 0:06:13and that sort of thing.

0:06:13 > 0:06:16The staff are really good.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19They helped me and my baby when we were in hospital.

0:06:19 > 0:06:21Sometimes it's a bit on slow on waiting but apart

0:06:22 > 0:06:23from that it is good.

0:06:23 > 0:06:26So this is the rating table from 2014 on the left.

0:06:26 > 0:06:27On the left, the last inspection results.

0:06:27 > 0:06:28Orange showing areas requiring improvement.

0:06:28 > 0:06:31On the right, the 2017 results and green equals good.

0:06:31 > 0:06:34The boss is proud of what she calls a massive achievement.

0:06:34 > 0:06:37The biggest change in it I think really is the positivity

0:06:37 > 0:06:40from the staff compared to three years ago and the biggest thing

0:06:40 > 0:06:43of importance in that would be that the people here feel that

0:06:43 > 0:06:46despite the pressure on the NHS, they can actually do things to make

0:06:47 > 0:06:56things better for patients.

0:06:56 > 0:06:59This stroke ward has been named in the top ten in the country.

0:06:59 > 0:07:01As demand on services like this continues to rise,

0:07:01 > 0:07:11the challenge for the hospital is to keep improving for patients.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15Anglian Water has agreed to donate 60,000 pounds to wildlife groups

0:07:15 > 0:07:17after a sewage overspill into a brook in Essex.

0:07:17 > 0:07:19The company admitted polluting the Layer Brook, which runs

0:07:20 > 0:07:21into the Abberton reservoir.

0:07:21 > 0:07:23Fish were found dead upstream but the incident is not thought

0:07:23 > 0:07:24to have caused lasting damage.

0:07:24 > 0:07:27The incident happened in 2013 but has only just been resolved.

0:07:27 > 0:07:29Anglian Water has reached an agreement with the Environment

0:07:29 > 0:07:32Agency to make the donation to the Essex and Suffolk Rivers

0:07:32 > 0:07:37Trust and the Essex Wildlife Trust.

0:07:37 > 0:07:38Now let's get the weather.

0:07:38 > 0:07:40Here's Alina Jenkins.

0:07:41 > 0:07:43Here's Alina Jenkins.

0:07:43 > 0:07:49It has been a fairly grey November morning but at least some bright

0:07:49 > 0:07:53weather in great chest in Essex early on. Brighter skies trying to

0:07:53 > 0:08:01get through earlier. We have been underneath this bank of

0:08:01 > 0:08:06cloud which is slowly getting the road from the West. The further west

0:08:06 > 0:08:09you are, the best of the bright weather on the sunshine. Further

0:08:09 > 0:08:14east that cloud will be slowed to clear. Thick enough for the odd spot

0:08:14 > 0:08:22of rain. Most places drive. Certainly quite a cool feel to the

0:08:22 > 0:08:25afternoon. Temperatures struggling to get into double figures. A lot of

0:08:25 > 0:08:30that cloud will melt away this evening. A frost for many as

0:08:30 > 0:08:34temperatures get close to freezing if not below. Temperatures start to

0:08:34 > 0:08:42recover as the night wears on. Cloud streaming down. By dawn, we are back

0:08:42 > 0:08:47up to five Celsius. Another cloudy morning. Cloud thickener for a few

0:08:47 > 0:08:54outbreaks of rain. It should dry up quite quickly. More in the way of

0:08:54 > 0:08:59sunshine in the afternoon. That will affect the temperature. Ten or 11

0:08:59 > 0:09:03Celsius the highly tomorrow. On Friday, this weather system slipping

0:09:03 > 0:09:06its way across the country. It is fairly weak and it will introduce

0:09:06 > 0:09:13more cloud on Friday and the odd spot of rain. Late on Friday, a more

0:09:13 > 0:09:16persistent spell of rain but that will clear and leave plenty of

0:09:16 > 0:09:19sunshine through the weekend.

0:09:19 > 0:09:20That's all from us.

0:09:20 > 0:09:23We'll be back with more with Look East at 6.30.

0:09:23 > 0:09:31Goodbye.
