:00:09. > :00:13.Ukip councillors in Clacton have told Look East they're pleased

:00:14. > :00:14.Douglas Carswell has resigned from their party.

:00:15. > :00:17.Mr Carswell, who is the town's MP, announced this morning he's leaving

:00:18. > :00:21.He says a by-election isn't needed because he's not

:00:22. > :00:23.Our political correspondent, Andrew Sinclair, has been

:00:24. > :00:34.Clacton once against finds itself back in the political spotlight, for

:00:35. > :00:40.the second time in two-and-a-half years, the town's MP is leaving the

:00:41. > :00:43.party he was elected to represent. I think he has probably thought about

:00:44. > :00:47.this carefully, but what he has done is thought about it from his own

:00:48. > :00:52.the party down? I think so. If that the party down? I think so. If that

:00:53. > :00:56.passion and your drive isn't there any more for your party, then, I

:00:57. > :01:01.think he has made the right decision to step away. It is down to him. If

:01:02. > :01:06.he wants to do that, we can't do a lot about it. Douglas Carswell was

:01:07. > :01:09.mobbed when he returned here after announcing his defection to Ukip but

:01:10. > :01:14.since then he has had a fractious relationship with the party. This

:01:15. > :01:19.a great sense of cleansing. We have a great sense of cleansing. We have

:01:20. > :01:25.had a deep and gapeling wound, ever since really, Douglas joined the

:01:26. > :01:28.party. I think we felt shall we say debatch -- detached from our MP. We

:01:29. > :01:32.don't seem to be getting the support we once got, and that has been

:01:33. > :01:37.ongoing for some time. So, we are not shocked. But at higher levels

:01:38. > :01:43.today, shock. Personally I am devastated. I ran Douglas's campaign

:01:44. > :01:48.when he first came across and was elected as our first Ukip MP, so I

:01:49. > :01:52.am personally very very disappointed, very upset by it.

:01:53. > :01:57.Douglas Carswell has always said if he was thrown out of Ukip he would

:01:58. > :02:02.be happy to sit as an independent. He told me he was happy in Ukip the

:02:03. > :02:04.other week an thought the new leadership was doing the right

:02:05. > :02:08.thing. This resignation has come as a complete surprise. Many will say

:02:09. > :02:13.that Douglas Carswell is an independently minded MP. Now the

:02:14. > :02:14.people of Clacton will have an independent MP.

:02:15. > :02:18.Network Rail wants to close 24 level crossings across Suffolk.

:02:19. > :02:20.It says it would help improve rail safety.

:02:21. > :02:23.Crossings that could go include this one near Capel St Mary.

:02:24. > :02:25.Network Rail has asked the Secretary of State for Transport

:02:26. > :02:30.for permission to go ahead with the closures.

:02:31. > :02:33.Rugby, and heartbreak for Northampton who lost a dramatic

:02:34. > :02:36.Both sides scored three tries a piece, the last one coming

:02:37. > :02:39.from Tigers' Lachlan McCaffrey, which put them in front

:02:40. > :02:42.In a barnstrming finish to the match, Saints then responded

:02:43. > :02:47.But Leicester had too much in the end, with two

:02:48. > :02:54.more late penalties, to win 36-31 at Franklins Gardens.

:02:55. > :02:56.Saints Jim Mallinder unhappy, his teams play-off hopes now

:02:57. > :02:58.They are seventh, six points behind Leicester,

:02:59. > :03:03.In the Championship, Bedford secured an excellent victory

:03:04. > :03:05.in the capital, beating London Scottish 41-22.

:03:06. > :03:12.In football, the focus was on the lower leagues due

:03:13. > :03:16.Southend maintain their position in the League One play-offs,

:03:17. > :03:22.Peterborough beat Gillingham 1-0, thanks to a late goal.

:03:23. > :03:24.Northampton's and MK Dons matches ended 0-0.

:03:25. > :03:27.In League Two, a big result for Colchester, who beat Luton 2-0

:03:28. > :03:31.The Us now just a point off the top seven.

:03:32. > :03:37.Isaac Vassell with a late consolation.

:03:38. > :03:39.The Hatters are now without a win in five games.

:03:40. > :03:42.Elsewhere, Cambridge and Stevenage played out a goalless draw

:03:43. > :03:54.Hello, hope you managed to make something of

:03:55. > :03:59.It's been very lovely, except a bit cool out

:04:00. > :04:01.towards the North East, with a nagging wind.

:04:02. > :04:05.Another cool start, perhaps not as cold as today,

:04:06. > :04:07.and then dry and sunny for your Mothering Sunday.

:04:08. > :04:09.You can see that north-easterly wind persisting through

:04:10. > :04:15.Actually, it might mean we don't see too much in the way of frost.

:04:16. > :04:18.This morning we were at minus two, we're a little bit milder

:04:19. > :04:22.through the night, but I think there'll still be some pockets

:04:23. > :04:26.But lots of sunshine for the get-go for Mothering Sunday.

:04:27. > :04:29.I think in the afternoon, maybe just a little bit more

:04:30. > :04:32.in the way of high cloud coming in from the North Sea.

:04:33. > :04:33.Shouldn't affect things, though, for you.

:04:34. > :04:37.Inland, it's highs of 13 or 14 degrees, cooler to the coast.

:04:38. > :04:39.Still settled on Monday, a little more unsettled

:04:40. > :04:44.Don't forget the clocks go forward by an hour tonight,

:04:45. > :04:47.and British Summer Time starts tomorrow.

:04:48. > :04:51.We'll be back with our next bulletin at ten to seven tomorrow evening.

:04:52. > :05:22.Good evening. What a belter of a day it has been. If you missed out on

:05:23. > :05:25.the sunshine, don't worry, we will get more tomorrow. The one

:05:26. > :05:31.exception, the Shetland Islands, shrouded in cloud. Elsewhere it has

:05:32. > :05:36.been a stunner. The highest temperature of the year so far, 19

:05:37. > :05:40.degrees. A beautiful shot here by one of our weather watchers. It is

:05:41. > :05:45.already cooling down and will turn quite chilly this evening through

:05:46. > :05:49.those clear skies. Dry nationwide and in the early morning the clocks

:05:50. > :05:52.go forward and British summertime begins, which means an hour less

:05:53. > :05:54.obsolete, unfortunately. We'll be dried chilli through the early

:05:55. > :05:56.hours. As
