:00:15. > :00:17.caught fire this morning on Mersea Island in Essex.

:00:18. > :00:21.Eight have been destroyed and two are badly damaged.

:00:22. > :00:26.Pictures of the scene on social media showed the beach huts

:00:27. > :00:30.on Empress Avenue completely burnt to the ground.

:00:31. > :00:34.The alarm was raised shortly before 2am this morning.

:00:35. > :00:37.Firefighters found propane gas cylinders inside

:00:38. > :00:41.There's an awful lot of people who will lose a lot of emotional

:00:42. > :00:44.things in these beach huts, memories, and actual things.

:00:45. > :00:47.We've had cases of mild vandalism in the past

:00:48. > :00:54.Two years ago in January, three of the huts were set on fire

:00:55. > :01:00.These huts can change hands for up to ?25,000 a time.

:01:01. > :01:03.The area has been cordoned off to allow an investigation into how

:01:04. > :01:14.Essex Police are trying to find a three-year-old girl from Clacton

:01:15. > :01:22.Peggie Happer was last seen five days ago.

:01:23. > :01:23.Officers are concerned because her parents,

:01:24. > :01:27.are believed to be involved with drugs.

:01:28. > :01:30.Coastguards rescued three groups of people cut off by the tide

:01:31. > :01:34.All are safe and well but the news comes as

:01:35. > :01:36.a whistle-blower claims the service is at breaking point.

:01:37. > :01:38.The Maritime and Coastguard Agency says it's taking

:01:39. > :01:46.It's mid-morning in Felixstowe but already, with the temperatures

:01:47. > :01:48.climbing, sun-seekers are coming in their droves.

:01:49. > :01:53.But this is a spot at Cobbolds Point where the pull of the water can be

:01:54. > :01:55.especially deceptive on the ebb tide.

:01:56. > :01:57.And even on a warm day the water temperature

:01:58. > :02:03.But it is not just currents and cold which should alarm us,

:02:04. > :02:05.says the whistle-blower behind today's allegations,

:02:06. > :02:09.Citing the mass closure of main coastguard centres,

:02:10. > :02:13.including those at Great Yarmouth and at Walton in Essex.

:02:14. > :02:15.This leak pinpoints a number of alleged problems,

:02:16. > :02:18.including people without the right qualifications, low morale,

:02:19. > :02:24.All that, it's claimed, leads to problems retaining staff.

:02:25. > :02:26.Our casualty rate rose by 58% last year.

:02:27. > :02:29.John Creswell is from the Coastal Patrol Rescue.

:02:30. > :02:32.Last year alone, it helped more than 160 people

:02:33. > :02:37.Now we are dealing with Dover Coastguard,

:02:38. > :02:39.which is 160 miles to the south, or Humber Coastguard,

:02:40. > :02:46.I mean, we're having more responsibility thrust on us.

:02:47. > :02:49.The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said, we're very proud of our

:02:50. > :02:52.coastguard, both our full-time staff and volunteers,

:02:53. > :02:56.around the coastline for the work they do to ensure

:02:57. > :02:59.the safety around our coast 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

:03:00. > :03:01.We're committed to looking after our staff and we take any

:03:02. > :03:05.concern about our coastguard operations very seriously.

:03:06. > :03:09.The dossier of allegations has already been passed

:03:10. > :03:16.to MPs and will be studied in the coming weeks.

:03:17. > :03:19.In rugby, in the Premiership, heartbreak for Northampton,

:03:20. > :03:22.who lost to a last-minute try at Wasps this afternoon.

:04:16. > :04:18.What we've got at the moment is a cold front slipping towards us

:04:19. > :04:22.from the north and west and as it approaches, it brings cold air with

:04:23. > :04:26.Although there will be some sunshine to start us off tomorrow morning.

:04:27. > :04:29.At the moment it is bringing that cloud in with it.

:04:30. > :04:30.That north-westerly wind really starting to develop

:04:31. > :04:36.But I think temperatures overnight should largely hold up in the mid-to

:04:37. > :04:38.high single figures, certainly in our towns,

:04:39. > :04:41.and we'll start with some sunshine first thing tomorrow morning.

:04:42. > :04:44.As the day wears on, though, cloud starts to bubble up and also

:04:45. > :04:46.we'll see some showers coming in from the north and west

:04:47. > :04:49.as the day wears on, mostly clipping part of Norfolk,

:04:50. > :04:55.Those temperatures, just ten to 12 Celsius for most of us tomorrow.

:04:56. > :05:02.And as we go through the week, staying in the low teens.
