:00:09. > :00:15.Good evening. Here are the headlines: East Yorkshire's only

:00:15. > :00:20.natural birth unit closes after a surprise healthcare inspection.

:00:20. > :00:26.There is no more money in the system. The Prime Minister joins

:00:26. > :00:33.talks to try and save jobs at the Scunthorpe steelworks. We left him

:00:33. > :00:37.in no doubt that there are serious challengers. Veterans who claim

:00:37. > :00:42.they were used as guinea pigs to test nuclear bombs prepared to go

:00:42. > :00:45.to the Supreme Court. And one year and counting -

:00:45. > :00:51.organisers hope that the Olympic Games will involve the whole of

:00:51. > :00:56.Britain. The Olympic Stadium. With one year to go it is all taking

:00:57. > :01:03.shape. We are giving two lucky people a chance to look behind the

:01:03. > :01:13.scenes later in the programme. there has been welcome sunshine

:01:13. > :01:17.

:01:17. > :01:22.across our region. All the details The man in charge of hospitals in

:01:22. > :01:26.Hull and East Yorkshire has admitted that the region's only

:01:26. > :01:30.natural birthing centre may never open again. The Jubilee Centre has

:01:30. > :01:38.been forced to shut after a surprise inspection by the Care

:01:38. > :01:46.Quality Commission. It was found that mother's choice was not being

:01:46. > :01:53.met. Our reporter has been it to meet a mother to be who feels she

:01:53. > :01:57.may not get the care she needs. This woman was excited about going

:01:57. > :02:07.back to the Jubilee Centre to give birth again. But today she heard

:02:07. > :02:08.

:02:08. > :02:18.the news it is closing. My heart is there. The atmosphere, everything.

:02:18. > :02:18.

:02:18. > :02:23.For me that was the best place. It still is the best place. The newest

:02:23. > :02:27.member of his family was born at the Jubilee Centre two weeks ago.

:02:27. > :02:32.His mother is shocked that this centre is closing. It is a

:02:32. > :02:36.fantastic place to give birth. I had two different bird there. One

:02:36. > :02:42.was quick and one was a bit longer and both times it was an amazing

:02:42. > :02:47.experience. Incredible staff. An incredibly relaxed place to be.

:02:47. > :02:50.decision to close the centre until September follows an unannounced

:02:50. > :02:57.visit by the care quality commission. The found there was

:02:57. > :03:02.disruption because there was not enough staff on duty.

:03:02. > :03:05.The centre had to close its doors 103 times over the last year

:03:05. > :03:10.because of staff shortages and also because of a suspected case of

:03:10. > :03:14.swine flu over Christmas. A decision is now being made over its

:03:14. > :03:20.future. This could be one of the last babies to be born at the

:03:20. > :03:26.centre. Many mothers are now Wapping it will be saved.

:03:26. > :03:34.-- are now hoping it will be saved. Phil Morley is the man in charge of

:03:34. > :03:38.their Trust. He said he is determined to sort the problem out.

:03:38. > :03:44.I am surprised that some of the things that came back. I have not

:03:44. > :03:47.had the full report yet. There has been an ongoing issue about the

:03:47. > :03:53.future of the Jubilee Centre. We had committed to keeping it open

:03:53. > :04:01.despite the fact that it made a significant loss. Basically it cost

:04:01. > :04:07.too much money? The issue is about having the right numbers of staff.

:04:07. > :04:14.You have been close 103 times in the last year. That would be Dean

:04:14. > :04:24.as bad management. Every decision we take is about patients. The

:04:24. > :04:24.

:04:24. > :04:34.times we have had to close his regarding care for those ladies.

:04:34. > :04:40.you have enough staff or is that it? As you know that NHS budget is

:04:40. > :04:44.reducing. There is no more money in the system. With the resources that

:04:44. > :04:51.we have where do we best provide the service? If you are a mother

:04:51. > :04:57.expecting a baby you will be very upset. It is a great service.

:04:57. > :05:03.are you not sticking with it? only have 300 births per year there

:05:03. > :05:07.and we have 6,000 on the site. Our choice was simple. We either take

:05:07. > :05:12.start from the site to support the staff at that site which leaves the

:05:12. > :05:16.site more unsafe or for the time being we have to close at centre.

:05:16. > :05:22.So natural birthing is a luxury that the Budget does not permit any

:05:22. > :05:27.more? We still have 1000 natural births on this site and 300 on the

:05:27. > :05:32.Castle Hill site. We will still offer a natural childbirth option.

:05:32. > :05:38.Are you saying this is it? There will be a review in September. We

:05:38. > :05:44.will make a decision then. We will choose based on what is the right

:05:44. > :05:49.level of care and we're well that you be? Will it open again? It is

:05:49. > :05:56.unlikely in the next six months. After that? We will have to see at

:05:56. > :06:06.that time. Why do you not to say it is closing? Our plan would always

:06:06. > :06:08.

:06:08. > :06:18.be if it is possible to call locate on to that site. It is unlikely to

:06:18. > :06:28.open in the near future. What do you think about this? Should there

:06:28. > :06:42.

:06:42. > :06:45.NHS Trust be trying harder? Get in In the past hour it has emerged

:06:45. > :06:50.that a house in Lincolnshire is being searched by officers

:06:50. > :06:53.investigating alleged cyber attacks on international businesses. Police

:06:53. > :06:59.have not revealed we're in Lincolnshire the property is at

:06:59. > :07:06.have said that the are interviewing at man and a caution. Scotland Yard

:07:06. > :07:10.has also arrested a man in Scotland. Work has officially began at an new

:07:10. > :07:14.Business Park in Lincolnshire. Once complete Teal Park could create

:07:14. > :07:18.4,000 jobs and bring investment to the county. Engineering firms

:07:18. > :07:26.Siemens already has plans to relocate to the site just outside

:07:26. > :07:31.Lincoln. It is hoped many more businesses will follow suit. Back

:07:31. > :07:37.in 2006 when Siemens said they might relocate, that made us

:07:37. > :07:44.concentrate our efforts on developing the site. I am pleased

:07:44. > :07:49.to say we have now secured them. We have stuck with the process. Police

:07:49. > :07:53.have widened their search for a missing pensioner. 77-year-old

:07:53. > :07:57.Marlene Wagstaff was last seen in Withernsea on Friday. Today

:07:57. > :08:02.officers searched local field and bite. They are asking the public to

:08:02. > :08:10.help. Our concern is that it has been nearly five days. We are very

:08:10. > :08:16.worried about her health. The weather is not too bad but it still

:08:16. > :08:19.gets cold in the evening. We have concerns. The search will continue

:08:19. > :08:25.and we will continue to follow that story.

:08:25. > :08:30.They were claiming that they were used as guinea pigs in the 1950s.

:08:30. > :08:35.Now veterans in our region are planning to take their fight for

:08:35. > :08:38.damages to the Supreme Court. They say they suffered serious health

:08:39. > :08:42.problems after being exposed to radiation in the Pacific. Tomorrow

:08:42. > :08:52.they hope to overturn the ruling made by the courts last year

:08:52. > :08:53.

:08:53. > :08:58.rejecting their case. The South Pacific at the height of

:08:58. > :09:04.the Cold War. The British military tests the atomic bomb. When it went

:09:04. > :09:09.off it was so severe it was as if somebody had put at fire at the

:09:09. > :09:16.back of your head. You could see the bones like an X-ray on your

:09:16. > :09:20.finger. These men were young when they were sent to what they thought

:09:20. > :09:29.was a paradise island. Now they believe the nuclear tests they saw

:09:29. > :09:39.their damaged their health. I lost sight in my right eye. The bones

:09:39. > :09:41.

:09:41. > :09:45.crumble. I have lost 70 % kidney function. This man served with the

:09:45. > :09:54.Royal Navy on Christmas Island. He believes his children suffered

:09:54. > :09:58.because of the radiation he was exposed to. My second daughter

:09:58. > :10:02.contacted at type of cancer when she was 11 and died when she was 13.

:10:02. > :10:08.If we had been warned I'd do not think we would ever have had any

:10:08. > :10:12.children. The MoD has always argued there is no evidence to show the

:10:12. > :10:16.tests were the only cause of their illnesses. Last year it won an

:10:16. > :10:21.appeal against a decision to allow the men is to seek damages. Now

:10:21. > :10:25.some fear time is running out. are elderly and in poor health.

:10:25. > :10:32.They are dying at a rate of approximately three per month.

:10:32. > :10:37.have not even been classed as cold war he rose. We were the lads that

:10:37. > :10:42.stood on the front line in the Pacific. Tomorrow the veterans must

:10:42. > :10:48.persuade the Supreme Court that they still have a legal case after

:10:48. > :10:53.decades of battling with the government.

:10:53. > :10:58.A group of local MPs say that they are optimistic that the Prime

:10:58. > :11:02.Minister will help to secure the future of the Scunthorpe steelworks.

:11:02. > :11:06.A task force aiming to reduce the planned number of job losses met

:11:06. > :11:11.with David Cameron at lunchtime. In a moment we will get reaction from

:11:11. > :11:14.Nic Dakin in the local MP, but first our correspondent will

:11:14. > :11:18.explain why so many jobs are at stake.

:11:18. > :11:23.Their aim of the meeting was to tell the Prime Minister how

:11:23. > :11:31.important steel is to Scunthorpe. All three of our region's MPs and

:11:31. > :11:34.businessman John Clugston travelled to London. Their job is to work

:11:34. > :11:44.with the unions to try to save as many of the threatened jobs as

:11:44. > :11:45.

:11:45. > :11:51.possible. If I expect them to come along with a big cheque book, we do

:11:51. > :11:55.not expect that. When the process is through we will see how it goes.

:11:55. > :12:03.Everything is an opportunity to develop. We have an opportunity on

:12:03. > :12:10.this steel works. Tata says it is investing 400 million in the

:12:10. > :12:14.business. It says demand for steel has dropped by two-thirds since

:12:14. > :12:18.2007. It said plans for a new tax on carbon producing industries

:12:18. > :12:23.could make Scunthorpe less competitive in the global market.

:12:23. > :12:26.Last week the Business Secretary Vince Cable visited Tata. He said

:12:26. > :12:36.the government will try to help Scunthorpe find new business but

:12:36. > :12:37.

:12:37. > :12:41.I think the decision has already been made. I believe the steel

:12:41. > :12:46.industry has a big future in the UK. A two big future could hinge on

:12:46. > :12:52.this, one a two huge wind turbines factories planned for the Humber.

:12:52. > :12:58.If they get the go-ahead, Tata hopes it could provide steel for

:12:58. > :13:01.the turbines. It would give steelworkers jobs for the future.

:13:01. > :13:05.Nick Dakin, the MP for Scunthorpe, spoke to me after meeting the Prime

:13:05. > :13:11.Minister. He told me more about what David Cameron had to say about

:13:11. > :13:16.the future of the Tata site. He was interested in any innovative

:13:16. > :13:19.ideas coming out of Tata and the task force in relation to the

:13:19. > :13:24.retreading of people who lose their jobs, so they can either do

:13:24. > :13:28.different jobs within the steel industry or elsewhere locally. I

:13:28. > :13:33.think there may be funds available to support that sort of assistance.

:13:33. > :13:38.A lot seems to be riding on this area becoming the centre for

:13:38. > :13:44.renewable energy. You think that is too dangerous? You are right, it is

:13:44. > :13:49.a big risk, but we did have the energy minister in Scunthorpe

:13:49. > :13:58.yesterday, we had Vince Cable in Scunthorpe last week. We saw the

:13:58. > :14:02.Prime Minister today and we are making it very clear that the

:14:02. > :14:06.opportunity for wind of locally is massive. We are the best area in

:14:06. > :14:12.Europe to develop it. It is a big risk, but a big opportunity. Those

:14:13. > :14:16.who are watching who were affected? What you say to them? I say it is a

:14:17. > :14:23.very difficult situation. They are well aware of the word that is

:14:23. > :14:29.going on by management and unions. That process has to follow its

:14:29. > :14:31.course. My job is to make sure we do everything we can to make sure

:14:31. > :14:35.the local economy is well- positioned to move positively

:14:35. > :14:43.forward, so anybody losing their jobs has the opportunity to get new

:14:43. > :14:46.jobs in the future, and soon. Should they be optimistic? I think

:14:46. > :14:51.people will be realistic, not optimistic. They will recognise

:14:51. > :14:55.these are challenging times, for the area and for the people

:14:55. > :15:03.affected. I do not think up to us and is the right word. Realism,

:15:03. > :15:07.resilience, and determination. Thank-you.

:15:07. > :15:12.Talking about the future of Scunthorpe there. Another one you

:15:12. > :15:22.might have a few one. Thank you for watching this Wednesday. Still to

:15:22. > :15:22.

:15:22. > :15:27.come: Land prices trebled in our area to more than 8,000 an acre.

:15:27. > :15:37.They can down to London 2012 is on. I will be live from the Olympic

:15:37. > :15:38.

:15:38. > :15:48.Park later. If you have a photograph you are proud of, send

:15:48. > :15:57.

:15:57. > :16:07.it in. This is tonight's. It is the He said he thinks he consider

:16:07. > :16:11.

:16:11. > :16:15.Lincolnshire him! -- he can see the Has that been fiddled on adobe

:16:15. > :16:19.Photoshop? Anybody else you want to insult?

:16:20. > :16:24.Just do the weather! For the next 24 hours, mostly fine.

:16:24. > :16:30.I think we will see more of the sunshine we have had this after

:16:30. > :16:38.them. It has been beautiful, even along the coast. The first sunshine

:16:38. > :16:44.along the coast since Sunday. This weather front will act to help

:16:44. > :16:51.break up the clout somewhat. Some warm spells tomorrow after a grey

:16:51. > :16:55.start. You can see the brakes. This is the gap that will come across

:16:55. > :17:03.tomorrow. This weather front will bring cloud for Thursday night and

:17:03. > :17:11.Friday. Let's look at this evening. It is a glorious evening. Make the

:17:11. > :17:19.most of it. There will be a little drizzle, mainly to the coast.

:17:19. > :17:25.Temperatures down to 11 or 12. The sun rises at 5:09am, setting at

:17:25. > :17:31.nine has 6:00pm. Generally, quite a grey start and perhaps a bit of

:17:31. > :17:35.dampness, but things will improve through the morning. There will be

:17:35. > :17:39.some warm spells of sunshine for most of us through the day.

:17:39. > :17:45.Tomorrow evening, we might see a shower pushing back in from the

:17:45. > :17:52.West. For most of us, it is bright and warm. The winds will be all

:17:52. > :17:57.over the place. Light and variable. Top temperature in land, 23. 73

:17:57. > :18:07.Fahrenheit. Back to cloudy skies on Friday. The who pays the weekend is

:18:07. > :18:10.

:18:10. > :18:20.looking promising. Some warm My favourite tweets of the dairy,

:18:20. > :18:23.

:18:23. > :18:28.as I rub my crystal ball, I see a hint of summer!

:18:28. > :18:31.A I think I will delay that! See you tomorrow. The price of

:18:31. > :18:34.farmland in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire has more than tripled

:18:34. > :18:37.in the last decade, making it some of the most sought-after land in

:18:37. > :18:41.the country. There's been interest from as far away as Hong Kong.

:18:41. > :18:48.Caroline Bilton is in the Lincolnshire Wolds this evening.

:18:48. > :18:53.Caroline, why is this land so appealing?

:18:53. > :18:58.We have some of the best farmland in the country here. Let me show

:18:58. > :19:02.you it in its glory. I am on top of the Lincolnshire Wolds. What you

:19:02. > :19:10.are looking at his are the most productive land in the country. Of

:19:10. > :19:13.course, that comes at a price. Prices that are rising year on year.

:19:13. > :19:23.According to the latest survey, land in Lincolnshire, the average

:19:23. > :19:28.price is 5,400 an acre. In East Yorkshire, it is 6,000. It is not

:19:28. > :19:34.unheard of to have land selling here for more than 8,000 an acre,

:19:34. > :19:40.which is a record high. There's expects in the field at saying if

:19:40. > :19:45.you have a bit of money that she would like to invest, you would do

:19:45. > :19:50.well to invest it in the fields of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

:19:50. > :19:54.The patchwork quilt that is a Lincolnshire countryside. In recent

:19:55. > :19:59.years for some, they have become fields of gold. This land sold

:19:59. > :20:03.recently for in excess of 7,000 an acre. I have been in business for

:20:03. > :20:08.over 30 years and have never known the market to be as strong as it is

:20:08. > :20:12.today. Land here has become such a good investment, it is attracting

:20:13. > :20:16.attention from overseas. The last year, we sold some land by auction.

:20:16. > :20:21.We finished up with a competition between a Hong Kong businessman and

:20:21. > :20:26.a local farmer. It is indicative of the type of people that are looking

:20:26. > :20:30.at investing in English farmland. High prices agreed when you are

:20:30. > :20:34.selling, not when you are buying. William Gradwell is a farmer in

:20:34. > :20:42.North Lincolnshire. His family had been farming here for five

:20:42. > :20:46.generations. The chance to expand is a pipe dream. The values are now,

:20:46. > :20:52.8,000 or something and a cake, we cannot afford to farm and pay off

:20:52. > :20:56.the interest on a loan. You have to have flexibility of land use. That

:20:56. > :21:05.is being able to provide the food, but look at things like renewable

:21:05. > :21:09.energy, the employment uses in the countryside. That is the concern.

:21:09. > :21:13.Higher land prices have the potential to knockout the younger

:21:13. > :21:18.generation from earning -- from owning their own the land and homes.

:21:18. > :21:24.This may be fields of gold for some. For the likes of William, they are

:21:24. > :21:30.out of reach. Is there any sign that these prices

:21:30. > :21:38.will stabilise? Those people I spoke to say they are expecting

:21:38. > :21:43.them to level out cent. At the moment, wheat prices are high.

:21:43. > :21:48.Confidence in the agricultural sector is good at the moment. It

:21:48. > :21:52.drives prices up. Thank-you. Yesterday, we told you how new

:21:52. > :21:54.council houses are being built in Lincoln for the first time in 20

:21:54. > :21:57.years, amidst warnings of a housing crisis. More than 50,000 families

:21:57. > :22:00.in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire are already on the waiting list for

:22:00. > :22:06.council homes and concerns have been raised that the problem is

:22:06. > :22:16.getting worse. Well, we had a big response from

:22:16. > :22:49.

:22:49. > :22:52.you on this. Thank-you fall of theirs. -- thank-

:22:52. > :22:55.you for all of those. Exactly a year today the curtain

:22:55. > :22:58.will go up on the 2012 London Olympics. Tonight, a big party is

:22:58. > :23:01.planned in Trafalgar Square to mark the date. Thousands of people from

:23:01. > :23:04.East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire will be heading to the capital to

:23:04. > :23:12.be part of the spectacle next year. Phillip Norton is lucky enough to

:23:12. > :23:17.be there now. Phil, what's it like there with 12 months to go? Take a

:23:17. > :23:21.look. This is the Olympic Park and the Olympic stadium, looking

:23:21. > :23:25.fantastic in a London sunshine. It is hard to believe that in a year's

:23:25. > :23:30.time, the world's eyes will be on this site. Thousands will be going

:23:30. > :23:35.in there for the start of the opening ceremony. The scale of this

:23:35. > :23:41.site is incredible. There is still a lot of work to be done, but it is

:23:41. > :23:44.starting to feel very real. Last week, Simon Clark came down here

:23:44. > :23:49.with two people from East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire for his special

:23:49. > :23:53.look around. The first thing that grab your

:23:53. > :24:03.attention is the main stadium... What is it like behind the scenes

:24:03. > :24:09.of Olympic Pat? Vicky and Jason got the opportunity to find out. They

:24:09. > :24:17.met an Olympic gold medallist. It is the sort of thing you do not

:24:17. > :24:22.normally get to see as an athlete. It is brilliant. I think it puts

:24:22. > :24:29.into focus what you want to do and a treat. These funds them bumped

:24:29. > :24:33.into another gold medallist, Britain's golden gale. Do you wish
