:00:07. > :00:10.Welcome to BBC Look North. The headlines: Strong winds prevent

:00:10. > :00:20.a ferry docking and fishermen setting sail, as disruption hits

:00:20. > :00:22.

:00:22. > :00:30.the area. If you owe more than a few miles out, you lose the Lee of

:00:30. > :00:34.the land until his horrendous. -- it is horrendous.

:00:34. > :00:38.Those who will carry the Olympic torch next year are revealed.

:00:38. > :00:41.just making my confidence caught up the ladder.

:00:41. > :00:50.The last-minute plea by businesses not to reduce pay-outs for

:00:50. > :00:55.producing solar electricity. And the sailor from Grimsby taking

:00:55. > :01:00.a starring role in the latest internet video.

:01:00. > :01:10.And the wind is likely to get stronger and the last -- and the

:01:10. > :01:18.next few hours. Hundreds of ferry passengers have

:01:18. > :01:21.been stranded for nine hours off Hull today because of high winds.

:01:21. > :01:30.The overnight crossing from Rotterdam should have berthed at

:01:30. > :01:37.8.30am, but it was not until that they could finally disembark. --

:01:37. > :01:42.only been in the last hour. The weather has caused many transport

:01:42. > :01:47.problems. Amanda Thomson is live at Hull Marina, further into the

:01:47. > :01:51.shelter of the estuary from the ferry terminal.

:01:51. > :01:56.There is better news for the passengers. These are the latest

:01:56. > :02:06.figures we have. -- pictures. It is not the end for other people in the

:02:06. > :02:06.

:02:06. > :02:15.region. Bridlington's lobster fisherman. This is a important time

:02:15. > :02:18.of year, but it is hindering their livelihoods.

:02:18. > :02:20.All tied up and going nowhere. And a glance over the harbour wall

:02:20. > :02:24.shows you why. Bridlington's lobster fishermen are sitting at

:02:24. > :02:28.home, unable to make a living while high winds have kept them in port

:02:28. > :02:32.for over a week. If you go too far out, it is just horrendous. It has

:02:32. > :02:40.been a week and a half since we last went out. Last time we went it

:02:40. > :02:45.was horrendous. It wasn't worth what you were catching. The risk

:02:45. > :02:49.involved, no way. It even takes a certain amount of courage to

:02:49. > :02:57.venture out on land. If you have nowhere to be an you like a bracing

:02:57. > :03:02.walk, this will blow the cobwebs away. But people coming from

:03:02. > :03:07.Rotterdam last night, this has made their journey gruelling. The Pride

:03:07. > :03:10.Of Hull's berth lay empty today. She was out on the heavy seas that

:03:10. > :03:16.had tossed her all night, all day, and into this evening, along with

:03:16. > :03:20.hundreds of passengers waiting for better conditions.

:03:20. > :03:24.The problem has been a combination of two things. The first was the

:03:24. > :03:29.weather and the winds, but by the time the ship got into the area

:03:29. > :03:38.this morning, on schedule, we had a low tide, which made it very

:03:38. > :03:41.difficult or virtually impossible for the ship to move on to birth. -

:03:41. > :03:44.- into berth. Back on land, conditions that could be put to

:03:44. > :03:47.good use at Lisset were making it dangerous to travel on two wheels.

:03:47. > :03:50.You have to constantly slowdown and go back to the side of the road so

:03:51. > :03:55.people can get past. It is scary, because you do not have full

:03:55. > :03:59.control. And with winds picking up again tonight, it will be the early

:03:59. > :04:07.hours before we see any respite. Is the disruption likely to

:04:07. > :04:11.continue? There are some bits and bobs we

:04:11. > :04:16.need to tell you about. If you are expecting anyone on East Coast

:04:16. > :04:20.trains from London this evening, the service that a schedule to

:04:20. > :04:25.leave at 7:30pm, that is now a replacement bus service. But

:04:25. > :04:28.northern rail services are running on time. On the road, the Humber

:04:28. > :04:37.bridges closed to high-sided vehicles and caravans, and there is

:04:37. > :04:47.a 30 mph speed limit. We have checked with the reports, and

:04:47. > :04:50.everything seems pretty much OK there. That is good news. We are

:04:50. > :04:58.told that the ship should be departing Hull at midnight, and

:04:58. > :05:01.fingers crossed we will have the weather and a few minutes.

:05:01. > :05:08.Hopefully the crossing tonight will not be as horrific for those trying

:05:08. > :05:18.to get into Hull this afternoon. For all the latest on any delays or

:05:18. > :05:20.

:05:20. > :05:22.problems the weather is causing, tune into your local radio stations.

:05:22. > :05:25.Radio Humberside and Radio Lincolnshire are on the air

:05:25. > :05:31.throughout the evening, and will also have the latest through the

:05:31. > :05:35.morning rush-hour. And we will have more at 10:25pm.

:05:35. > :05:40.In a moment: A blunder from the Birmingham

:05:40. > :05:43.keeper gives Hull City an early Christmas present at the KC Stadium.

:05:43. > :05:45.It has been described as the opportunity of a lifetime, and

:05:45. > :05:48.today hundreds of people across East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire

:05:48. > :05:53.have learned that they will be running with the Olympic torch next

:05:53. > :05:59.year. Overall more than 6,000 people will take part in the torch

:05:59. > :06:03.relay ahead of the opening ceremony in London next summer. The relay is

:06:03. > :06:13.expected to have a worldwide audience of millions. We have met

:06:13. > :06:17.some of the chosen few. Carrying the Olympic torch on part

:06:17. > :06:23.of its journey to like one of the most important symbols of the Games

:06:23. > :06:30.is considered a great honour. But to get that incredible chance, you

:06:30. > :06:40.have to be nominated. Like this man from Hull. He has followed in his

:06:40. > :06:42.

:06:42. > :06:47.father's that it -- that stepson dedicated his life to boxing.

:06:47. > :06:51.It is fantastic. I'm very proud. Not just for me, but for my family

:06:51. > :06:57.and friends, for the people of the city. Everyone that I know, and

:06:57. > :07:02.have worked with. He was not the only one to get the e-mail. So did

:07:02. > :07:07.this Fifteen-year-old. She was hospitalised two years ago after a

:07:07. > :07:11.horse fell on her and crushed her pelvis. Her return had -- her

:07:11. > :07:21.return to sport has been inspiration will. I have been given

:07:21. > :07:25.this amazing opportunity, I am honoured. It is amazing. This women

:07:25. > :07:31.set up a foundation that helps children with serious childhood

:07:31. > :07:36.illnesses. This was after her son was born with a condition she could

:07:36. > :07:41.not find help for. I didn't think I would have a touch it, far less

:07:41. > :07:49.hold it in my hand. It is going to be amazing. What a fantastic thing

:07:49. > :07:55.for the torch to come to Hull, it will be a fantastic day for.

:07:55. > :07:58.And when this lady is not playing cricket, she is teaching children.

:07:58. > :08:02.It is a great way to get people involved in the Olympics, and

:08:02. > :08:05.taking it around Lincolnshire is great, and being part of that and

:08:05. > :08:11.share it with the pupils at the school, they are very excited as

:08:11. > :08:15.well. Hopefully they can come and see. Each one of them will be part

:08:15. > :08:24.of an amazing journey. From 18th June, the torch will travel from

:08:24. > :08:30.Bridlington, to Beverley, Hull, and then on to Scunthorpe and Grimsby,

:08:30. > :08:40.on to Lincoln. It will then return to the south of Lincolnshire after

:08:40. > :08:41.

:08:41. > :08:48.Nottingham, then heading to Norfolk,. Without you and my mum, I

:08:48. > :08:58.would not be doing this. It will be an emotional and forgettable -- and

:08:58. > :09:06.

:09:07. > :09:10.unforgettable experience. The idea of the Olympic torch is to

:09:10. > :09:16.celebrate achievements of ordinary people. We have seen some of those

:09:16. > :09:18.achievements. The idea of the torch is to

:09:18. > :09:26.celebrate the lives of ordinary people, who have achieved

:09:26. > :09:30.remarkable things. Earlier today this household found

:09:30. > :09:38.out that she was going to carry the torch. She developed a brain tumour,

:09:38. > :09:47.and it has been a long battle back to health. It is amazing,

:09:47. > :09:55.unbelievable. You do not hear stuff like that every day. I am really

:09:55. > :10:05.shell-shocked. When she was nominated, I thought no, she won't

:10:05. > :10:05.

:10:05. > :10:12.get it. She just gets on with life, but when we got the news, I thought,

:10:12. > :10:15.yes, she's done it! I'm so pleased for her.

:10:15. > :10:25.It was her teacher who had nominated her to carry the torch.

:10:25. > :10:31.

:10:31. > :10:35.She has seen for herself how Starr has made such progress. Her whole

:10:35. > :10:43.attitude to life is absolutely inspirational, so it was no

:10:43. > :10:51.question who we would choose. going good. I have some days where

:10:51. > :10:59.I have a wobble, but it is going good. At the end of the day, it is

:10:59. > :11:09.school! There is no doubt, that here she is a very popular nominee.

:11:09. > :11:09.

:11:09. > :11:13.We wish her all the very best. I would like to hear from you on

:11:13. > :11:16.this one. Have you been selected to be a torch bearer, or maybe you

:11:16. > :11:23.know someone who has? Who do you think should be holding the torch?

:11:23. > :11:33.Will you be going to watch the event as it travels through East

:11:33. > :11:45.

:11:45. > :11:50.Last night we brought you the story of an unofficial protest, where

:11:50. > :11:52.workers were protesting about planned changes to their conditions.

:11:52. > :11:59.But the contract to their workforces they have to remain

:12:00. > :12:02.competitive or they could lose work to foreign firms.

:12:02. > :12:06.A viewer has Dexter to say the company seemed to do what they want

:12:06. > :12:11.to, due to the recession. They know people need a job.

:12:11. > :12:16.An anonymous call says, it seems to be that the employers always get

:12:16. > :12:23.their own way. I travel from Hull to the site, and all I get is 37 a

:12:23. > :12:29.week for fuel and tolls. And regarding changes to terms and

:12:29. > :12:31.conditions, a cure has said, I would do as my employer thinks is

:12:31. > :12:39.best to seek competitive to keep the business going in these

:12:39. > :12:41.difficult times. Some more news now.

:12:41. > :12:43.A convicted axe-murderer from Latvia has been jailed for ten

:12:43. > :12:46.years for killing a woman in Lincolnshire. 34-year-old Intars

:12:46. > :12:51.Pless was twice the drink-drive limit when he knocked a scooter

:12:51. > :13:01.into the path of a car in Wyberton Fen near Boston. The judge has

:13:01. > :13:14.

:13:14. > :13:17.recommended he is deported after serving his sentence.

:13:17. > :13:20.A woman who admitted killing her husband at their business in Burgh

:13:20. > :13:23.Le Marsh, has claimed she did it because he had asked her to. Julie

:13:24. > :13:27.Dixon locked David Twigg in a store cupboard, and then set the premises

:13:27. > :13:30.on fire. But her claim that he wanted to die has been disputed by

:13:30. > :13:33.the prosecution. A special hearing to decide her sentence will take

:13:33. > :13:36.place in front of a judge next week. Police investigating an explosion

:13:36. > :13:39.in Boston have submitted a file to the Crown Prosecution Service to

:13:39. > :13:42.see whether any more legal action should be taken. The blast killed

:13:42. > :13:44.five men and seriously injured a sixth. They were thought to be

:13:44. > :13:47.distilling illegal alcohol. A teenage cancer unit in East

:13:47. > :13:57.Yorkshire has opened its doors to patients for the first time today.

:14:11. > :14:21.raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity. Any died last

:14:40. > :14:46.him a dedicated following. He could go anywhere in the East Riding and

:14:46. > :14:53.they all said they listen to him. I was talking to friends in Lincoln

:14:53. > :14:57.yesterday, and they remembered him from his broadcasts. He may have

:14:57. > :15:01.been known Thant wide, but the village of Walkington hold -- held

:15:01. > :15:08.a special place in his heart. He was instrumental in the war killed

:15:08. > :15:18.to -- in a Walkington here right. His charity work earned him an MBE.

:15:18. > :15:19.

:15:19. > :15:23.He set the tone for the village. The because of his gifts of welcome

:15:23. > :15:30.and hospitality, and generosity, he inspired his village to be that

:15:30. > :15:33.kind of place. Ernie and his wife Doris were married in 1941 at

:15:33. > :15:41.Beverley Minster. This celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary

:15:41. > :15:51.this year. It a bore you this out of my pension. -- I bought you this.

:15:51. > :15:52.

:15:52. > :15:56.A consummate storyteller, he will be missed by all who knew him. his

:15:56. > :16:02.funeral was held today. BBC Radio Humberside had a lovely

:16:02. > :16:12.documentary about any, which went out on Sunday. You can listen to it

:16:12. > :16:13.

:16:13. > :16:20.Thank you for watching. Still ahead: Businesses rush to install

:16:20. > :16:25.solar panels before payouts for producing so electricity are hard.

:16:25. > :16:35.Be Grimsby sale there taking a starring role in the latest

:16:36. > :16:46.If you have any good pictures of the weather, sent them in.

:16:46. > :16:47.

:16:47. > :16:51.Holderness Hunt taken at Kelk near Thank you very much for that. Your

:16:51. > :16:55.equipment has been in overdrive today, I bet.

:16:55. > :16:59.You could say that. I will be exhausted by the end of the day. It

:16:59. > :17:04.is not like me to put in a full day!

:17:04. > :17:13.I am saying nothing! We are not out of the woods yet.

:17:13. > :17:23.The wind will pick up again. Look at this. This could be

:17:23. > :17:24.

:17:24. > :17:27.So Church Fenton, 72 mph this afternoon. That would be

:17:27. > :17:31.representative of some parts of East Yorkshire. There have been

:17:31. > :17:37.some very strong gusts a rat. There is still a warning in place for

:17:37. > :17:44.fairly widespread gales to develop again. Especially northwards of the

:17:44. > :17:53.Humber and more exposed parts of East Yorkshire. There is a nasty

:17:53. > :18:03.depression just off Scotland. The isobars open up. It will turn

:18:03. > :18:04.

:18:04. > :18:10.colder. There's bad weather front. It is clearing in the Wash now. It

:18:10. > :18:15.is followed by a clear spells and a few showers. The wind will pick up

:18:15. > :18:25.further gusts. Possibly as high as 60 miles per hour, then easing

:18:25. > :18:26.

:18:26. > :18:35.later. Down to two Celsius later. The sun will rise at 86 and M,

:18:35. > :18:45.setting at 3:41pm. A much called a feel to the day. Much less when

:18:45. > :18:47.

:18:47. > :18:54.eight. There will be a less wind. So there could be a bit of sleet,

:18:54. > :18:59.but it will not cause problems. Temperatures where 11. In some

:18:59. > :19:05.places, there will be a drop of seven degrees. Saturday is similar.

:19:05. > :19:11.A good deal of sunshine, the risk of showers. That's the forecast.

:19:11. > :19:18.Andy says, it is so windy on Victoria Dock, married friends has

:19:18. > :19:23.blown down, did Paul Hudson forecast this -- like offence has

:19:23. > :19:32.blown down. I have some advice for you, walk

:19:33. > :19:35.like this! It's left an industry in chaos and

:19:36. > :19:38.customers in limbo. Businesses are making a last minute plea to the

:19:38. > :19:40.government not to reduce the financial incentive given to those

:19:40. > :19:43.who generate their own solar electricity. Across East Yorkshire

:19:43. > :19:53.and Lincolnshire, there has been a rush to install panels before the

:19:53. > :19:55.

:19:55. > :19:59.tariff drops. Caroline Bilton has been speaking to those affected.

:19:59. > :20:05.Normally from a rate of installing around 20 project a week, we have

:20:05. > :20:08.been installing up to 40 a week. They're working around the clock to

:20:08. > :20:11.get panels installed before Monday, the day that the subsidies given to

:20:11. > :20:13.those who generate their own solar electricity drops by more than half.

:20:13. > :20:22.Instead of receiving 43.3p for every kilowatt hour they provide,

:20:22. > :20:26.new solar installations will get just 21p. They have immediately

:20:26. > :20:32.pulled the rug out and given a 55 % reduction. There is a period of

:20:32. > :20:37.limbo. We do not have the clarity to build our businesses and invest

:20:38. > :20:42.in jobs for the future. Electric would have been great for

:20:42. > :20:46.everything on the farm. Poultry farmer Robert Borill is

:20:46. > :20:51.someone else who has been left in limbo. He took out a 150,000 loan

:20:51. > :20:53.to install panels on this field. He signed the contract, paid for

:20:53. > :21:02.planning permission, but the government's decision to drop the

:21:02. > :21:07.tariff prematurely means now it might not be worth his while.

:21:07. > :21:12.absolutely livid. All signs we got about the changes were that it

:21:12. > :21:15.would be in April, which is fine. It would have given us time to plan

:21:15. > :21:19.is properly and make sure everything was done on time and in

:21:19. > :21:21.the correct sequence. We paid the money, signed the contract, and out

:21:21. > :21:24.of the blue, a decision like this comes through.

:21:24. > :21:27.The Government argues the cuts are needed now to prevent the solar

:21:27. > :21:36.industry from falling victim to boom and bust, but by moving the

:21:36. > :21:41.goalposts it's knocked confidence. How damaging is this in reality? We

:21:41. > :21:48.have seen headlines of, this is the death of the solar industry.

:21:48. > :21:52.best time for the use solar industry has not yet Iraq. -- not

:21:52. > :21:55.yet a ride. The cost of panels will continue to come down.

:21:55. > :22:00.Not all businesses will be able to ride the storm, though. Many have

:22:00. > :22:03.been left struggling to still see a bright future in solar.

:22:03. > :22:06.And the issue of whether the coalition has lived up to its

:22:06. > :22:10.promise of being the greenest government ever will be the subject

:22:10. > :22:20.of a debate on the Politics Show. That's this Sunday at noon here on

:22:20. > :22:22.

:22:22. > :22:24.BBC One.. Hull City have climbed into the

:22:24. > :22:27.Championship play-off places, after beating Birmingham City at the KC

:22:27. > :22:34.stadium. The Tigers came from a goal down to secure the win, as

:22:34. > :22:38.Sarah Burton reports. As Hull City fans arrived at the KC Stadium got

:22:38. > :22:41.there when hoping for his second win in four days. After half an

:22:41. > :22:46.hour, the visitors scored. Chris Wood put Birmingham ahead by

:22:46. > :22:50.driving the ball into the goal from just inside the area. A minute into

:22:50. > :22:54.the second half, Robert Carr ran volleyed home after Cameron

:22:54. > :23:01.straight's pass deflected into his path to give the Tigers an

:23:01. > :23:07.equaliser. 20 minutes from the end, Boaz Myhill's error allowed the

:23:07. > :23:14.Tigers to steal all three points. Consider in the operation --

:23:14. > :23:21.considering the opposition, I think it was first class. We really cause

:23:21. > :23:24.them problems. This victory leaves Hull City 6 in the league table. It

:23:24. > :23:29.will strengthen Nick Barmby's claim to take a manager's job on a full-

:23:29. > :23:32.time basis. A couple from North Norfolk have

:23:32. > :23:35.spent 10,000 on a rabbit hutch! Runnie and Hunnie's new home comes

:23:35. > :23:43.complete with a fan to control the temperature, a shutter if the

:23:43. > :23:53.weather's bad, lighting, and a webcam. It's been built by engineer

:23:53. > :23:53.

:23:53. > :23:58.Jason Batterbee, who lives near Kings Lynn. The old hutch was

:23:58. > :24:03.starting to deteriorate. A winter coming up, I thought I would give

:24:03. > :24:08.myself a project to do, with permission from a wide. She said OK.
