:00:14. > :00:19.Good evening. The headlines: A six year-old boy and his grandmother

:00:20. > :00:24.drown in a Lincolnshire duck pond. It may be one of these cases where

:00:24. > :00:29.we never fully establish how this accident happened, but we are

:00:29. > :00:33.treating it as a tragic accident. He claims that school Jubilee

:00:33. > :00:35.celebrations could be illegal as teachers call for lessons about

:00:36. > :00:41.alternatives to the Queen. Grimsby celebrates the return of

:00:41. > :00:46.its adopted warship and crew. Catching the bad books before they

:00:46. > :00:49.bite. The new technology to kill unwelcome visitors.

:00:50. > :00:59.And it is going to turn colder through the weekend. There is frost

:01:05. > :01:09.on Saturday night. I have a Good evening. A six year-old boy

:01:09. > :01:14.and his 70-year-old grandmother have been discovered dead in a

:01:14. > :01:18.village pond in Lincolnshire. Police began a search yesterday

:01:18. > :01:25.evening when the boy's mother reported him missing. It happened

:01:25. > :01:31.in the hamlet of Holywell near Bourne. What more do we know at

:01:31. > :01:35.this stage? In the last 24 hours, this

:01:35. > :01:42.picturesque corner of Lincolnshire, a mile or so from Castle Bytham,

:01:42. > :01:48.has been the subject of a major RAF search with the aid of underwater

:01:48. > :01:52.dive teams. The bodies were found last night and early this morning.

:01:52. > :01:55.Police say they may never know how the pair ended up in these freezing

:01:55. > :02:00.waters. This remote country late in the

:02:00. > :02:03.village of Holywell has become the scene of a terrible family tragedy.

:02:03. > :02:08.The six year-old boy came here some time yesterday with his grandmother

:02:08. > :02:13.to feed the ducks. Somehow, and we may never know precisely how, they

:02:13. > :02:20.ended up in these freezing waters. It may be one of these cases where

:02:20. > :02:25.we never fully establish how this accident happened, but we are

:02:25. > :02:29.treating it as a tragic accident. If anyone was in the Holywell area

:02:29. > :02:33.who may have seen the grandmother and her grandson in this location,

:02:33. > :02:38.please come forward. The search began when the boy failed to turn

:02:38. > :02:42.up at his mother's home. The grandmother lived in Castle Bytham,

:02:42. > :02:47.just one mile from the lake. It is a complete shock. You do not expect

:02:47. > :02:50.anything like that to happen around here. It is a tragedy for somebody

:02:50. > :02:59.to being a local area and for something so happily -- horrible to

:02:59. > :03:02.happen to him. My condolences to the family that is left behind.

:03:02. > :03:06.police are offering whatever support they can to family members,

:03:06. > :03:13.both in Lincolnshire and Leicestershire.

:03:13. > :03:17.It does look like the police will never know what actually happened?

:03:18. > :03:22.That's right. They only really know a very rough chronology of what

:03:22. > :03:26.happened. They are assuming that this boy was on his way home to

:03:26. > :03:30.Leicestershire with his grandmother to go back to his mother's house

:03:30. > :03:35.after half term. We do not know when they were here, and the police

:03:35. > :03:40.are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the ground mother's car

:03:40. > :03:44.near this lake to come forward. There is a post mortem examination

:03:44. > :03:48.taking place on the boy and his grandmother tonight. The police are

:03:48. > :03:53.not expected to release their names or any details about them until

:03:53. > :04:00.Monday at the earliest, but officers offering comfort to all

:04:00. > :04:04.the families involved. In a moment, the father from

:04:04. > :04:10.Gainsborough who has had 40 operations in his 13 year fight

:04:10. > :04:13.against cancer. Some more news. Police and hospital

:04:14. > :04:20.chiefs say they cannot predict how long they will be investigation

:04:20. > :04:24.allegations that a baby was injured at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

:04:24. > :04:31.Five staff from the hospital have been suspended. The Royal College

:04:31. > :04:33.of Nursing says it expects all staff were being trained in how to

:04:34. > :04:43.restrain children when treating them.

:04:43. > :04:47.There have been put it cuts -- budget cuts of 43 million at North

:04:47. > :04:51.East Lincolnshire Council. Anglian Water, which supplies homes

:04:51. > :04:57.in Lincolnshire, is warning that Rutland Reservoir could begin to

:04:57. > :05:00.fall beyond manageable levels. The company says it has position --

:05:00. > :05:04.permission to these levels by taking water from a nearby river,

:05:04. > :05:08.but that might not be enough. There are calls for children in

:05:08. > :05:11.East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire to be talked about an alternative to

:05:11. > :05:16.the monarchy, following claims that some schools could be breaking the

:05:16. > :05:19.law by promoting the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Republican

:05:19. > :05:25.campaigners and some teachers say that children are being

:05:26. > :05:30.indoctrinated into supporting the royal family. His -- this report

:05:30. > :05:36.contains flash photography. Here in the East Riding village of

:05:36. > :05:43.Everingham, they are preparing for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

:05:43. > :05:46.This is a special year this year, isn't it? Yes. Gren Halton believes

:05:46. > :05:50.it is important that her granddaughter understand the

:05:50. > :05:54.relevance of this year's events. They are tomorrow's generation, and

:05:54. > :05:59.they should be aware of what a great job she does for us and that

:05:59. > :06:06.she is important. We should celebrates all these things. It is

:06:06. > :06:11.part of our heritage. Not everyone is getting into the party spirit. A

:06:11. > :06:15.group calling itself Republic says it is organising a series of anti-

:06:15. > :06:19.monarchy protests in the run-up to the Diamond Jubilee. We do not

:06:20. > :06:23.think that the Jubilee is something to celebrate. If you ask yourself

:06:23. > :06:29.what the Queen has done to achieve a position and how she has managed

:06:29. > :06:32.to stay in that position, it is not a democratic process. We do not

:06:32. > :06:37.think children should be indoctrinated to think that is OK.

:06:37. > :06:46.In particular, and the monarchists believe that the school's cooking

:06:46. > :06:50.competition launched by the Duchess of Cornwall could be on lawful --

:06:50. > :06:54.unlawful because it presents celebrations of the Queen's Diamond

:06:54. > :06:59.Jubilee. It is not done it in an informed way. You do not find out

:06:59. > :07:03.about what the monarchy is, or why we have a monarchy. Despite

:07:03. > :07:12.opposition from some, there appears to be no shortage of people ready

:07:12. > :07:16.to dig out the bunting to celebrate the Queen's 60 years on the throne.

:07:16. > :07:21.I am joined by Graham Smith from the anti- monarchy campaign group

:07:21. > :07:26.Republic. Good evening. Good evening. Is it is an over-reaction

:07:26. > :07:29.to what will be a great weekend of celebrations and parties? No. It is

:07:29. > :07:33.not a great weekend for the whole country, it is not a national

:07:34. > :07:38.celebration, it is a royal celebration. A quarter of the

:07:38. > :07:41.population in polls at the time of last year's wedding said we would

:07:41. > :07:45.be better off without the royal family. More people were not

:07:45. > :07:55.interested in the wedding and are not interested in the Jubilee. We

:07:55. > :07:55.

:07:55. > :08:03.are seeing reduce numbers of street parties and events. There are a

:08:03. > :08:07.wind -- wide range of opinions around this issue. Schools should

:08:07. > :08:12.not be jumping on the Royal bandwagon and celebrating the

:08:12. > :08:15.monarchy. They should be remaining balance and impartial. But the

:08:15. > :08:19.Department of Education told us today that the law is designed to

:08:19. > :08:23.stop children being indoctrinated, not from joining in a national

:08:23. > :08:27.celebration. What is your concern? As I said, it is not a national

:08:27. > :08:35.celebration. It is not for the Department of Education to choose

:08:35. > :08:38.when the law is applied. The law is there to ensure that political

:08:38. > :08:41.abuse and institutions are presented it in schools in a

:08:41. > :08:46.balanced way. If they simply put across the monarchy as being

:08:46. > :08:50.something that everybody is celebrating, they are excluding all

:08:50. > :08:54.other possibilities by doing that. There certainly marginalising those

:08:54. > :08:59.possibilities, and that is not appropriate. Last year, we were

:08:59. > :09:03.inundated by letters and e-mails from parents concerned that their

:09:03. > :09:07.children were being forced to take part in celebrations. Let me read

:09:07. > :09:10.you some letters we have had. These Republicans do not take into

:09:10. > :09:14.consideration the amount of money that the monarchy brings into the

:09:14. > :09:19.country. In other one says that you're short-sighted not to see how

:09:19. > :09:26.valuable the Queen is. Your views are not popular. A handful Alf --

:09:26. > :09:29.of e-mails and letters to your studio does not change, but rather

:09:29. > :09:39.reinforce his wife -- point. There are a variety of views on this

:09:39. > :09:40.

:09:40. > :09:44.issue. This is the whole point of the law, to ensure that balance is

:09:44. > :09:48.maintained in our schools. A final question, will you be working on

:09:48. > :09:52.the bank holidays over the Diamond Jubilee? I will be, because I work

:09:52. > :09:56.for Republic, and we will be staging protests on the weekend

:09:56. > :09:59.itself at the Thames pageant. We have people coming from all low-

:09:59. > :10:05.fare the country because we are opposing the idea that we all as a

:10:05. > :10:14.country should be celebrating an undemocratic institution. Good to

:10:14. > :10:17.have you on the programme. Thank you. Is it wrong to encourage

:10:17. > :10:27.schoolchildren to celebrate the Jubilee, or our critics missing the

:10:27. > :10:28.

:10:28. > :10:38.Jubilee, or our critics missing the point? What you think? You can e-

:10:38. > :10:38.

:10:45. > :10:49.can follow us on Twitter off owners. -- or telephone us.

:10:49. > :10:54.You can pursue this topic on the Sunday Politics this weekend. That

:10:54. > :10:58.is up on Sunday at 12 A M -- told pm on BBC One.

:10:58. > :11:02.He has had cancer six times and has had 40 operations to fight the

:11:02. > :11:06.disease. Chris Underwood-Frost from Lincolnshire is still going strong.

:11:06. > :11:13.The father of one from Gainsborough has said his son has been an

:11:13. > :11:16.inspiration in his fight for cancer. He hopes his story will be

:11:16. > :11:21.inspirational for others. For all Chris Underwood-Frost,

:11:21. > :11:28.medication is part of everyday life. He has to inject himself with the

:11:28. > :11:37.drug drug mac to keep his cancer at bay. Incredible, given that's he

:11:37. > :11:41.was given only 18 months to live 13 years ago. Moving forward, I have

:11:41. > :11:45.had its further cancer and cancer treatment over the years. By the

:11:45. > :11:50.third time, I was getting used to the fact that I was getting --

:11:50. > :11:53.having to go to Hull every few weeks. Chris was diagnosed with

:11:53. > :11:59.weeks. Chris was diagnosed with skin cancer in 1999. A year later,

:11:59. > :12:03.scans revealed lymphoma. In 2006, he discovered a lump on his chest,

:12:03. > :12:05.and so then he had lung cancer. and so then he had lung cancer.

:12:05. > :12:10.Last year, he had bladder cancer, and in December, another lump was

:12:10. > :12:14.found there. Despite that, he has carried on working as a councillor,

:12:14. > :12:19.and he is running for the job of Lincolnshire's Police Commission.

:12:19. > :12:24.He is one of the most vocal on the county council, and he is never shy

:12:24. > :12:29.in coming forward. To be like that and bees are so vociferous about

:12:29. > :12:34.things he cares about in his community is incredible.

:12:34. > :12:37.doctors at Castle Hill Hospital in Hull are also astounded. It is

:12:38. > :12:42.quite an amazing story. There is something about the melanoma,

:12:42. > :12:48.something about his physiology, something about his mental attitude.

:12:48. > :12:53.He has been very positive from the word go. But Chris says his son Max

:12:53. > :12:58.has been vital in fighting his cancer. Max, my beautiful son, is

:12:58. > :13:02.the person who keeps me going. He is the first love of my life. I do

:13:02. > :13:07.not want to upset anyone out there by saying is, but I live with

:13:07. > :13:13.cancer. I refuse to die of cancer. That is it promisee is determined

:13:13. > :13:23.to keep, even if he has to take life one step at a time.

:13:23. > :13:26.An amazing story. Still to come: So Alyn home.

:14:08. > :14:12.is -- she is looking lovely tonight It has been mild today but it will

:14:12. > :14:22.turn colder as we go through the weekend. Tomorrow it will brighten

:14:22. > :14:26.up in the north. A cold front will put its front north. That will

:14:26. > :14:29.bring us a fair amount of sunshine for the afternoon. Today, you can

:14:30. > :14:35.see on the satellite picture that the cloud was thickening up from

:14:35. > :14:40.the West. It has given us some outbreaks of patchy light rain. We

:14:40. > :14:49.will keep mostly cloudy skies tonight. By the end of the night,

:14:49. > :14:59.the temperatures will drop down it. Here are the sometimes across the

:14:59. > :15:02.

:15:02. > :15:06.regions. -- Sun Times. It will be a cloudy and breezy start to the day

:15:06. > :15:12.tomorrow. Very mild first thing. Then and have rain will push his

:15:12. > :15:17.way southwards across the day. It will brighten up nicely in the

:15:17. > :15:21.north. Plenty of sunshine for the afternoon. The wind was changed

:15:21. > :15:25.from a south-westerly to an north- westerly direction. It will feel

:15:25. > :15:30.cooler in the afternoon. Our maximum temperatures will be around

:15:30. > :15:35.nine degrees. Once the sun comes out, temperatures will start to

:15:35. > :15:42.drop. Clear skies overnight into Sunday, this means we will have a

:15:42. > :15:49.frost. Temperatures below zero. Try and find on Sunday. Only around

:15:49. > :15:59.five degrees. As cloud increases on Monday, it will be 12 degrees by

:16:45. > :16:51.it back. I am hoping they are going to come out in their droves to show

:16:51. > :16:56.their support. HMS Grimsby was commissioned in September 1999. She

:17:11. > :17:16.this is how they do it. Sending underwater vehicles to inspect

:17:16. > :17:20.objects that Cup on their radar. This is one of the systems we use.

:17:20. > :17:27.This is put into the water once the team have identified a possible

:17:27. > :17:33.mind. On the front we have a searchlight and a camera. It could

:17:33. > :17:38.turn out to be a mine or a shopping trolley! This will be then

:17:38. > :17:43.recovered and we will send out a live one it with a charge on the

:17:43. > :17:50.front that will be detonated to destroy the mind. The team are also

:17:50. > :17:55.supported by divers. We will attach a four at pound pack of plastic

:17:55. > :18:00.explosives to it then we will swim away and detonate the mind. I am

:18:00. > :18:08.scared of the sharks. After a stressful day, food is always

:18:08. > :18:13.available from the ship's two chefs. Stuff ends up everywhere because we

:18:13. > :18:22.get thrown about. It makes it more exciting than working at home!

:18:22. > :18:27.weekend, a warm welcome is in store for all of its 37 crew members.

:18:27. > :18:33.As part of the celebrations this weekend, you can go on board HMS

:18:33. > :18:39.Grimsby. It will be open to the public from 11am until 3pm tomorrow,

:18:39. > :18:46.when the crew will play at charity football match at 4:30pm. On Sunday,

:18:46. > :18:52.there will be a parade from the town hall at 10am and a service of

:18:52. > :18:55.thanksgiving at 11 o'clock. If you are going, have a good weekend.
