:00:08. > :00:12.Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North. The Headlines tonight:

:00:12. > :00:17.has the set too much? Question is Albrecht Nick Barmby is a teacher

:00:17. > :00:22.at Hull City. I am at the KC Stadium to see what the future

:00:22. > :00:26.holds. Campaigners celebrate after plans

:00:26. > :00:30.for a more wind turbines in East Yorkshire are rejected.

:00:30. > :00:34.Claims that cuts in the number of its sheltered housing could cost

:00:34. > :00:40.the council more in the long run. They have not had the decency to

:00:40. > :00:45.come and explain everything to rise. And find in the sun, but there is

:00:45. > :00:55.more rain on the way. Who took advantage of the break in the

:00:55. > :01:00.

:01:00. > :01:06.clouds? It has been the wettest April ever recorded.

:01:06. > :01:10.There is speculation tonight concerning the future of the Hull

:01:10. > :01:15.City manager Nick Barmby. He took charge in December and is due to

:01:15. > :01:20.meet the club's members this week after the Tigers missed out on the

:01:20. > :01:25.chance of promotion to the Premier League. It is also his comments in

:01:25. > :01:32.the media in recent weeks but have led to unrest at the club. Our

:01:32. > :01:36.reporter is that the stadium right now. What details to we have?

:01:36. > :01:42.all started this afternoon when they get social media lines started

:01:42. > :01:47.buzzing with a remote that are the had been suspended by the owners.

:01:47. > :01:52.Since that time, we have had a statement from the owners who have

:01:52. > :01:56.said that they are aware of the speculation and are not in that

:01:56. > :02:04.position to make any comment. Tonight at the KC Stadium there is

:02:04. > :02:10.doubt over Nick Barmby is future. He joined the club eight years ago.

:02:10. > :02:16.All smiles for Nick Barmby. He joined in 2004 and was given

:02:16. > :02:20.managerial responsibility in December. This is the club for me.

:02:20. > :02:25.It is the club that I want to stay at. I have never thought about

:02:25. > :02:31.anything else. Even if I stopped as a player I do not think I would

:02:31. > :02:35.play for in other club. Soon he had the team on a winning streak. But

:02:35. > :02:43.this afternoon, then media networks started buzzing with rumours of his

:02:43. > :02:48.suspension. He was expected to meet owners about the club's future. He

:02:48. > :02:56.explained after their defeat to West Ham. We are nearly there. It

:02:56. > :03:02.is very important in to have meetings on how their club is doing.

:03:02. > :03:08.What you think about your own future? It is not what I want, all

:03:08. > :03:14.I want is what is best for the player's first and foremost. It is

:03:14. > :03:18.not a rallying cry. We're all trying for one thing and that is

:03:18. > :03:25.for at their club to do well. developments today have come as a

:03:25. > :03:30.shock to Tigers fans. He was doing a really good job. There have been

:03:30. > :03:34.a few rumours of things going on behind the scenes. There are

:03:34. > :03:40.meetings with them to discuss the future, but I take it it hasn't

:03:40. > :03:44.gone well. You will have heard my colleague

:03:45. > :03:48.speaking to him at the end of the West hand game he is with me now.

:03:48. > :03:52.Is this a shot you? I did wonder whether it he would be the manager

:03:52. > :03:57.at the end of the season and the beginning of next season. I did not

:03:57. > :04:03.see it coming today. I would say now that this is the end of the

:04:03. > :04:08.road for a Nick Barmby. I would also say that my expectation is

:04:08. > :04:13.that it will be the end of the head of their operations as well. What

:04:13. > :04:17.you think brought this about? not think the owners were impressed

:04:17. > :04:22.with what he was saying to people like me in the build up to getting

:04:22. > :04:28.future funding and making sure that promises that they had made to play

:04:28. > :04:32.most -- players were still in place. It is all about money. Let me just

:04:32. > :04:36.tell you that here at the KC Stadium Nick Barmby was due to be

:04:36. > :04:40.here because it is the official supporters' club end-of-season

:04:40. > :04:50.bonanza. Some of the players may be here we will try and get them later

:04:50. > :05:00.

:05:00. > :05:07.on in the programme. I do very much indeed. If you could give us your

:05:07. > :05:17.thoughts on this one please e-mail and.

:05:17. > :05:19.

:05:19. > :05:25.-- e-mail it in. In a moment on tonight's programme we will see

:05:25. > :05:29.them take their fight to the at top local MPs. The meat they BAE

:05:29. > :05:35.Systems chief executive. Campaigners against wind turbines

:05:35. > :05:40.in East Yorkshire are celebrating after proposals for at two sites in

:05:40. > :05:45.the Wolds were it withdrawn. It comes on the day that I knew

:05:45. > :05:49.reports on the Campaign to Protect Rural England says that parts of

:05:49. > :05:55.rural England are being overrun with plans to make more wind

:05:55. > :06:01.turbines. In the heart of the Wolds they rely

:06:01. > :06:06.on wind energy as an important source of extra income. 1 wind

:06:06. > :06:09.turbines dead as half of this man's allergist he needs.

:06:09. > :06:13.It is a really important part in managing the costs of the business

:06:13. > :06:17.and making sure that we are competitive in the marketplace. In

:06:17. > :06:24.doing that, we have shielded ourselves from the inevitable rise

:06:24. > :06:31.in costs of energy. With these breathtaking views campaigners want

:06:31. > :06:37.the Wolds protected from the wind turbines. Today it two applications

:06:37. > :06:43.were withdrawn. Another two were rejected. They are saying that they

:06:43. > :06:49.are sorry but we -- value are landscapes. These people are making

:06:49. > :06:59.money. That is money about a of tariffs at the expense of this

:06:59. > :07:02.

:07:02. > :07:07.beautiful landscape. With any decade it is set to triple. At the

:07:08. > :07:15.moment there are a lot of turbines in a UK but to meet Government

:07:15. > :07:18.targets they will have to generate 15 % from renewable energy.

:07:18. > :07:25.It is expected that 10,000 wind turbines need to be built across

:07:25. > :07:31.the country. We're keen to see a strategic approach happen. It needs

:07:31. > :07:36.to filter down to local level to ensure that we do not see these an

:07:36. > :07:39.appropriate sites come in forward in the first place. Campaigners

:07:39. > :07:47.want to see a better balance between the concerns of those who

:07:47. > :07:53.live here and the demands for a renewable energy. Two men who

:07:53. > :07:58.attempted to smuggle nine Kuwaiti nationals into Hull have been

:07:58. > :08:03.jailed for 11 years. The core 18 nationals were found in

:08:03. > :08:08.the back of this and on its way back from Rotterdam by UK Border

:08:08. > :08:13.Agency officers last year. Tariq Mohammed and Muhammad Al-Kulefi

:08:13. > :08:20.were found guilty after a breaching immigration law. They have no

:08:20. > :08:25.regard for those people. They have no regard for concern for them. All

:08:25. > :08:30.they are is a commodity. And 11- year-old girl from Lincolnshire

:08:30. > :08:36.suffered injuries at birth and is to receive compensation of nearly

:08:36. > :08:40.11 million. Milly Evans was born at Lincoln County cost -- Lincoln

:08:40. > :08:48.County Hospital. It is one of the highest negligence

:08:48. > :08:53.payments ever made. How much of the battle has this been? Lincoln

:08:53. > :08:58.County Hospital has not always looked at this case in the same way,

:08:58. > :09:01.but they have always admitted their negligence. It was more about how

:09:01. > :09:07.much they would get. She was transferred to any NATO

:09:07. > :09:10.unit once she was born but then had trouble breathing. The midwife

:09:10. > :09:14.should have stopped -- spotted sooner that there was a problem and

:09:14. > :09:19.that she was in distress. The claim that then she would have been

:09:19. > :09:24.delivered sinner and not suffered such a catastrophic injury. She now

:09:24. > :09:30.has cerebral palsy and needs 24- hour care. She cannot speak but can

:09:30. > :09:34.communicate with specialised equipment. We were at court date --

:09:34. > :09:40.today to see the settlement. What did the hospital have to say about

:09:40. > :09:47.the case? The trust paid tribute to the family and said that no amount

:09:47. > :09:51.of words could put right what had gone wrong. They said that the NHS

:09:51. > :09:55.Trust admitted liability and apologised. It said that in the 11

:09:55. > :10:01.years since her birth the guidelines and practices had

:10:01. > :10:06.changed significantly. The trust hopes that the settlement will

:10:06. > :10:10.assessed Milly Evans to achieve a full potential. Her lawyer has said

:10:10. > :10:17.that the money would ensure that she had a positive life experience

:10:17. > :10:22.as far as possible. It has been confirmed that no compulsory

:10:22. > :10:28.redundancies will be made in Brough from BAE Systems.

:10:28. > :10:33.David Davies and Alan Johnson net worth company chiefs of BAE Systems.

:10:33. > :10:38.They say that the problem with jobs at the site is intensifying this

:10:38. > :10:44.week as workers prepare for a protest at the company's AGM on

:10:44. > :10:49.Wednesday. Recycled to Manchester to see the Prime Minister and plot

:10:49. > :10:56.their fight to Downing Street. As the battle to save Brough enters

:10:56. > :11:00.its 8th month the MPs continued to keep pressure on the bosses of BAE

:11:00. > :11:07.Systems. At last the company are beginning

:11:07. > :11:12.to engage constructively. They are still not keeping all the jobs at

:11:12. > :11:16.Brough. But they are looking at supply jobs and assembly jobs and

:11:16. > :11:23.other engineering jobs being kept their which were not be for it. We

:11:23. > :11:28.are having some progress. They have effectively gone back into

:11:28. > :11:34.consultation. They are now doing things to investigate those job

:11:34. > :11:37.losses which they should have been doing what -- three months ago.

:11:37. > :11:42.They have said that manufacturing will stop here next June and there

:11:42. > :11:46.will be more than 800 redundancies. There are still options to go

:11:46. > :11:50.forward. We won its to keep these people

:11:50. > :11:55.together. There is a high skilled work force here with a lot of

:11:55. > :12:01.skills. It is an ideal place to put work into what every aircraft in

:12:01. > :12:05.the street or any other industry they have planned for us. Workers

:12:05. > :12:11.like Steve are queuing up to do their bit. These buyers will be

:12:11. > :12:17.held -- handed out at the next AGM. They will be protect the --

:12:17. > :12:23.protesting against job cuts there. It is a big wide world out there

:12:23. > :12:27.for us. Progress might seem slow but MPs and workers say that

:12:27. > :12:31.meetings like today are vital to their fight. They are playing the

:12:31. > :12:39.long game. There are sustaining pressure or on BAE Systems in the

:12:39. > :12:46.hope that they will keep jobs local in the future. The story that we

:12:46. > :12:51.have followed since the start. Flat water in a foot deep has been found

:12:51. > :12:54.on a winter just reach this morning. The emergency services say that

:12:55. > :13:01.they found many other places that were affected, lots of houses had

:13:01. > :13:06.been affected. We will have more on the forecast in just a minute.

:13:06. > :13:12.Still ahead on the programme tonight, wardens are cut in Hull

:13:12. > :13:20.and there are claims that elderly accommodation will be lost. And who

:13:20. > :13:23.has made the most of the good weather before the rain returns?

:13:23. > :13:31.Thank you for what in this Monday night.

:13:31. > :13:36.If you have a photograph descended 10. We found this one from Wolds.

:13:36. > :13:42.We will have been other picture a roundabout the same time tomorrow

:13:42. > :13:50.roundabout the same time tomorrow night. It has been the wettest

:13:50. > :13:57.April on record. Let me show you the headlines for the next 24 hours.

:13:57. > :14:03.The weather is not changing there is more rain to come. It is

:14:03. > :14:07.smashing records for rain for a people. Over 150 mm have been found

:14:07. > :14:12.in the month right across the region. Tomorrow it will be cloudy

:14:12. > :14:16.with patchy rain. The high pressure continues down from the North.

:14:16. > :14:22.There will be more rain coming with that. Early this evening we will

:14:22. > :14:28.see more of that also. Especially over Lincolnshire. You can see the

:14:28. > :14:32.downpour is coming out going across East Anglia and clipping into North

:14:32. > :14:38.West Tonight. It is fine at the moment with 17 degrees across the

:14:38. > :14:43.region. But we will see showery outbreaks. That is especially in

:14:43. > :14:50.southern areas. In the North, it looks mostly dry though Wendy. They

:14:50. > :14:56.will be a strengthening easterly wind. It will be around 45 degrees

:14:56. > :15:06.Fahrenheit. The sun will rise in the morning and there will be high

:15:06. > :15:10.water at in Skegness. On the 1st May we will see mostly cloudy skies.

:15:10. > :15:14.It will not rain all day. It will not be like it was yesterday. There

:15:14. > :15:19.will be dry spells in between but there will be rain never fired a

:15:19. > :15:25.way. There will be a strong easterly wind that will ease later

:15:25. > :15:31.on. It will be around 10 or 11 degrees Celsius. There will be dry

:15:31. > :15:35.spells as well. On Wednesday it will be a cloudy and damp start

:15:36. > :15:45.although it will become brighter. Its tents much colder in May. The

:15:46. > :16:00.

:16:00. > :16:04.bank had -- the Bank Holiday Say here tomorrow. -- see you

:16:04. > :16:06.tomorrow. Politicians in Hull are being warned that 45% cuts to

:16:06. > :16:09.sheltered accommodation warden service could end up costing the

:16:09. > :16:12.authority more money than it is saving. The Labour-run council says

:16:12. > :16:15.it needs to save around half a million pounds from the service to

:16:15. > :16:25.save money and it is blaming the cuts on the coalition government.

:16:25. > :16:28.

:16:28. > :16:34.But opposition parties say core services should be protected. Steve

:16:34. > :16:38.Wilson is a regular visitor at his mum's flat, but he fears the loss

:16:38. > :16:43.of the Daily warden service at her sheltered housing complex could

:16:43. > :16:48.mean she will have to go into residential care. I know the scheme

:16:48. > :16:54.isn't good enough and doesn't provide the confidence and the

:16:54. > :17:00.back-up that we need for my mum. It should totally be financed by the

:17:00. > :17:04.council. Funding sheltered councils properties like this come from

:17:04. > :17:10.their council budget which has seen cuts of almost half a million

:17:10. > :17:14.council. Elections are taking place next Thursday, so you have the

:17:14. > :17:19.biggest leveraged possible on your local councillors. A union leaders

:17:19. > :17:24.are worried about job losses, but they are more concerned about the

:17:24. > :17:29.safety of the residents. Potentially, the could be at risk.

:17:29. > :17:35.People could fall in the home and not be able to access help and lie

:17:35. > :17:41.there for days. Daily wardened visits are being replaced by weekly

:17:41. > :17:47.visits at best. They just men con - - they just knock on the door to

:17:47. > :17:51.see if you are OK. Anger, real anger, because they have not had

:17:52. > :17:55.the decency to come down and explain everything to us. A trend

:17:55. > :18:03.that is one of 800 people who live in sheltered accommodation in the

:18:03. > :18:11.city. -- Brenda is. These voters could prove crucial in the

:18:11. > :18:17.elections. If I had a fall, and could not get up, and could not get

:18:17. > :18:27.a life line, I could be left there for more than 24 hours. The Labour

:18:27. > :18:30.

:18:30. > :18:34.group are in control of the council at present. All three main parties

:18:34. > :18:39.insist the service is safe with them. A we should look at her core

:18:39. > :18:45.services, which is looking after elderly, and the vulnerable and

:18:45. > :18:52.street lights. That is always first and foremost in our budget. Where

:18:52. > :18:55.there are needs which need to be met, and where they are the

:18:55. > :19:03.physical disabilities that need that extra attention, I will make

:19:03. > :19:09.sure that happens. The warden service is vital for those who live

:19:09. > :19:14.in sheltered accommodation. It is human contact that they need on a

:19:14. > :19:19.regular basis. Those affected by the cuts see if it is not reversed,

:19:19. > :19:25.it could end up costing the local- authority more in the long run.

:19:25. > :19:30.Earlier, I spoke to Age UK on the issue and asked if they had some

:19:30. > :19:40.busy for the financial position of the council? I said so -- I think

:19:40. > :19:41.

:19:41. > :19:47.so but it can be up conundrum. The local council needs to bring

:19:47. > :19:53.everything into the equation, it will it make a saving? Is it

:19:53. > :19:58.safeguarding of the welfare of people living in those games?

:19:58. > :20:02.only the number of visits of wardens which will be cut, is that

:20:02. > :20:08.not a sensible compromise? It may be a sensible compromise depending

:20:08. > :20:11.on the needs of individuals in that scheme. They need to make sure they

:20:11. > :20:16.are talking to individual residents in that scheme, assessing their

:20:16. > :20:20.needs and talking to their families and ensuring it can guarantee the

:20:20. > :20:27.well-being of all those people living in those games. They cannot

:20:27. > :20:30.take a blanket approach. Another of wardens and visits are being cut,

:20:30. > :20:38.but we heard from the council leader that where there is a

:20:38. > :20:43.medical lead, it will be met, are you reassured by that? -- medical

:20:43. > :20:48.need. The role of the warden is providing people with the Daily

:20:48. > :20:55.point of contact and support. Often a warden provides many different

:20:55. > :20:58.functions, acting as a good neighbour and monitoring and making

:20:58. > :21:04.sure that they can respond to the needs of the individuals in those

:21:04. > :21:07.schemes. It is not just about emergency situations. It is also

:21:07. > :21:14.acting as a point of contact for people who might be vulnerable or

:21:14. > :21:19.isolated. A used see it as a mistake? It depends on how far they

:21:19. > :21:24.have actually spoken to the residence and negotiated that to

:21:24. > :21:33.ensure they can guarantee the support and safety of those

:21:33. > :21:37.residents. Thank you very much. You might want to comment on that,

:21:37. > :21:40.so send me an e-mail. On Friday we reported on alleged

:21:40. > :21:42.mismanagement at a group of academies in Lincolnshire. Report

:21:42. > :21:44.by the Department of Education described serious failings at the

:21:44. > :21:47.Priory Federation of academies, following allegations that the

:21:47. > :21:55.Trust's former chairman had spent public money employing his daughter

:21:55. > :22:05.and on items including riding lessons for his son. A big response

:22:05. > :22:30.

:22:30. > :22:33.to this after the programme, here Thank you very much.

:22:33. > :22:40.Grimsby Town's joint manager has told Look North the mariners can

:22:40. > :22:43.challenge for promotion back to the Football League next season.

:22:43. > :22:46.Saturday's 1-nil home defeat to Southport in the club's last match

:22:46. > :22:51.of the season means they finished 11th in the table, and 11 points

:22:51. > :22:59.off the play-offs. I lookout where we are and the teams we were up

:22:59. > :23:05.against, how far away from them? Certainly, we can compete to get

:23:05. > :23:12.back consistency throughout the season. After weeks of rain, we saw

:23:12. > :23:17.some rare sunshine today. Have people been making the most of the

:23:17. > :23:21.warm spell while they can? Our reporter has been out and about to

:23:21. > :23:28.see what has been going on. There is something different about

:23:28. > :23:34.today. Maybe it is because I do not need this raincoat for the first

:23:34. > :23:40.time in about a month. With this short break of fine weather, how

:23:40. > :23:48.are people making the most of it? Jean and Ernest Henderson are

:23:48. > :23:52.finally getting their late -- their roof done. We started in April,

:23:52. > :23:56.stripping it down and then the rains came and everything has been

:23:56. > :24:04.held up ever since. It is unbelievable how much she can get

:24:04. > :24:09.done when it is not raining. It is fantastic. I hope it will be like

:24:09. > :24:17.this all week. And Nick Marshall can now start to sell some of his

:24:17. > :24:21.open-top cars. We might have all the doors open and the roofs of us

:24:21. > :24:27.like you can see M8 such a difference, the place looks alive.

:24:27. > :24:31.Yesterday was a washout. Children at the local primary school are

:24:31. > :24:41.finally playing outside and doing some local support. We get to play
