:00:13. > :00:18.Good evening. Here are the headlines: Reduced to a childlike

:00:18. > :00:26.state - the rare disease which has affected two previously healthy

:00:26. > :00:36.brothers. Mentally they are younger than they should be. They are

:00:36. > :00:37.

:00:37. > :00:41.children. Turmoil at the Tigers. Adam Pearson is sacked.

:00:41. > :00:47.For the 10.8 million compensation payout for an 11-year-old girl.

:00:47. > :00:51.Swat by a massive wave - new footage of the stricken round-the-

:00:51. > :01:01.world yacht. And we will have the full weather

:01:01. > :01:03.

:01:03. > :01:09.forecasts later in the programme. There are two brothers who have

:01:09. > :01:12.been struck down with the same extremely rare terminal illness.

:01:12. > :01:17.Until they reached middle age Michael and Matthew Clark had

:01:17. > :01:20.enjoyed good health. They have both been married. Michael had even

:01:20. > :01:25.served in the RAF. But in the space of a few months they have been

:01:25. > :01:29.reduced to a childlike state - and able to wash, feed or care for

:01:30. > :01:35.themselves. The brothers, from Lincoln, have been diagnosed with

:01:35. > :01:43.Leukodystrophy, a genetic condition thought to affect fewer than 100

:01:43. > :01:47.adults in the whole of the UK. Two brothers who both used to be

:01:47. > :01:53.healthy young men, reduced now to a childlike state.

:01:54. > :01:58.Michael Clark, aged 42, had served in that Ali F. His 39-year-old

:01:58. > :02:02.brother Matthew Clark was a proud father. Now neither can survive

:02:02. > :02:07.independently. The parents, who had retired to Spain, have returned to

:02:07. > :02:11.the country to care for them. cannot look after themselves. They

:02:11. > :02:18.cannot cook. They don't even dress themselves, Bath themselves, or

:02:18. > :02:23.anything normal. They need help with everything. I have to wash and

:02:23. > :02:26.shave Michael, and dress them, and get his breakfast. The brothers

:02:27. > :02:31.have been diagnosed with a rare terminal condition called

:02:31. > :02:39.Leukodystrophy. It usually affects newborns and it is thought there

:02:39. > :02:49.could be as few as 100 adults in the UK were affected. Now I cannot

:02:49. > :02:52.

:02:52. > :02:59.walk. If I do what I need somebody holding me up. I'd get shakes. I

:02:59. > :03:06.forget things. Leukodystrophy refers to a group of disorders

:03:06. > :03:14.caused by the imperfect growth of myelin - the fatty covering on it

:03:14. > :03:19.human nerve fibres. There is no known cure. 2 million people

:03:19. > :03:26.worldwide are thought to be affected. There is not the support

:03:26. > :03:33.at their that -- out there that there should be. It puts a stress

:03:33. > :03:37.on your emotions, I knew well-being, and their well-being. Every day is

:03:37. > :03:44.a fight. For now the whole family lives in a one-bedroom flat in

:03:44. > :03:50.Lincoln. They are trying their best to cope with the effects of a

:03:50. > :04:00.disease about which so little is known.

:04:00. > :04:04.Still to come - work for the region, or back con job. They renewables

:04:04. > :04:09.sector sparked a new round. If the orders of Hull City Football

:04:09. > :04:14.Club have sat Adam Pearson, the man supporters credit with saving the

:04:14. > :04:20.club from extinction 11 years ago. Adam Pearson was the head of

:04:20. > :04:24.football operations. The orders, the Allams, have refused to

:04:24. > :04:33.elaborate on the position of manager Nick Barmby. We understand

:04:33. > :04:36.he has been expected -- suspended. The Allams say the remaining

:04:37. > :04:44.committed to Hull City and its future.

:04:44. > :04:52.Business as usual on Saturday, but today that changed.

:04:52. > :05:02.A statement from up the orders of the club confirmed they had

:05:02. > :05:07.

:05:07. > :05:10.terminated the agreement with Adam I spoke to Adam Pearson shortly

:05:11. > :05:14.after he had issued a statement registering his extreme surprise

:05:14. > :05:18.and disappointment at what he described as an unjustified

:05:18. > :05:21.termination of his agreement. He told me all matters were in the

:05:21. > :05:26.hands of his lawyers as he drove away from the club.

:05:26. > :05:34.In Hull to the it is the talk of the time. You wish him all the best.

:05:34. > :05:44.He has done everything for the club. You have got to which Adam Pearson

:05:44. > :05:46.

:05:47. > :05:49.all the best. I am not happy. He is the main man. I was satisfied with

:05:49. > :05:56.being just outside the play-offs and was looking forward to next

:05:56. > :05:59.season. I am not looking forward to it now. It is the issue that has

:05:59. > :06:03.made it one of the biggest faller in these on BBC Radio Humberside

:06:03. > :06:11.for some time. The supporters have expressed their

:06:11. > :06:16.views. Adam Pearson made an immense contribution to Hull City. The oils

:06:16. > :06:22.the wheels. He was the cog in the machine. It is a great loss to the

:06:22. > :06:29.football club. The fans respected him. We have received a copy of a

:06:29. > :06:32.document revealing: I have got to back the Allams.

:06:32. > :06:38.If it was not for them that we would have been in liquidation 18

:06:38. > :06:45.months ago. The two men may be doing business

:06:45. > :06:55.in the future. Us orders of a massive company, the Allams at

:06:55. > :07:00.effectively landlords to the rugby club owned by Adam Pearson.

:07:00. > :07:03.We are now joined by an expert on the football and business.

:07:03. > :07:07.A high-profile departure from the club. Question marks over the

:07:07. > :07:14.position of the manager. What impact will this have on the club,

:07:14. > :07:19.the sponsors, and the players? One thing that is bad for any

:07:19. > :07:22.football club is uncertainty. The more stable the club is, the more

:07:22. > :07:32.willing sponsors are to get involved, the more willing players

:07:32. > :07:38.are to join the club. Their owners have stressed that there running of

:07:38. > :07:42.the club as a sound and proper business is their top priority.

:07:42. > :07:48.first thing they have to do is communicate to the fans. If the

:07:48. > :07:53.owners do not communicate with the fans the fans get stressed. The

:07:53. > :08:03.Allams have put a lot into Hull City. A lot of it was when in the

:08:03. > :08:03.

:08:04. > :08:09.Duke the club out of administration. -- when it they took the club.

:08:09. > :08:15.is not a good time to be without ahead of food or a manager.

:08:15. > :08:23.absolutely. They had a good season. They just fell short of the play-

:08:23. > :08:31.offs. Nick Barmby has won a lot of support. There are new financial

:08:31. > :08:35.rules coming into the championship. Those financial rules mean the

:08:35. > :08:41.ability of the club to carry debt will be more restricted than in the

:08:41. > :08:45.past. Is there space for emotion in the world of football finances

:08:46. > :08:50.these days? There is always space for a motion in football. Football

:08:50. > :09:00.is an emotional game. If we did not support our clubs when they have

:09:00. > :09:03.

:09:03. > :09:07.been beaten, they would be nothing to underpin the game. But times are

:09:07. > :09:11.tough. We are seeing major clubs like Rangers falling over the

:09:11. > :09:21.precipice financially. Orders are realising that they have to manage

:09:21. > :09:22.

:09:22. > :09:27.the club's tightly, to make sure that they survive as a business.

:09:27. > :09:31.A second man has been charged with the murder of a Lincoln pensioner.

:09:31. > :09:35.70-year-old Sonny Grey was attacked last October in his home and died

:09:35. > :09:40.two days later. 23-year-old Robert Holmes from Wisbech will appear

:09:40. > :09:45.before magistrates tomorrow. 24- year-old Rocky Curtis has already

:09:45. > :09:49.been charged with murder. He appeared in court earlier today.

:09:49. > :09:54.Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body

:09:54. > :09:59.of a teenager was found near Sandringham. The body of a Alisa

:09:59. > :10:04.Dmitrijeva was found on New year's Day. The 17-year-old was reported

:10:04. > :10:14.missing last a temper. The men aged 28 and 31, and from the Wisbech

:10:14. > :10:19.area, were arrested and are currently being questioned.

:10:19. > :10:23.A former Police Community Support Officer has been found guilty of

:10:23. > :10:31.seven charges of sexual activity with children. He denied two

:10:31. > :10:34.further charges. The 48-year-old was remanded in custody and will be

:10:34. > :10:41.sentenced in June. A political row has broken out over

:10:41. > :10:47.the cost of wind energy to consumers in at our area. Speaking

:10:47. > :10:50.ahead of the local elections, Nigel Farage, the leader of UKIP,

:10:50. > :10:55.described the renewables sector as a con job which has increased

:10:55. > :10:59.energy bills by 15 %. His colleagues have been criticised by

:10:59. > :11:09.Green Party candidates. Industry figures say that the Humber region

:11:09. > :11:09.

:11:10. > :11:12.will benefit from the renewables sector.

:11:12. > :11:19.Generating cleaner electricity could provide a major jobs boost

:11:19. > :11:24.for our economy, but at what price? In this East Yorkshire village they

:11:24. > :11:28.are already feeling the benefits of the renewable energy boom. Here a

:11:28. > :11:35.fleet of new boats will be built to service offshore wind farms in the

:11:35. > :11:40.North Sea. The us opportunity has come along.

:11:40. > :11:43.Hopefully it is a good start. We have three orders. What we will

:11:43. > :11:48.secure more work. In recent years the main political parties have

:11:48. > :11:52.been bending over backwards to try to flag up their green credentials.

:11:52. > :12:01.There is a real feeling that the promise of a new green jobs could

:12:01. > :12:11.prove to be a vote-winner in the local elections. A big wind turbine

:12:11. > :12:14.

:12:14. > :12:20.will power 1000 homes. We want to create jobs, not destroy jobs would.

:12:20. > :12:26.But the leader of UKIP, Nigel Farage, has warned that green

:12:26. > :12:30.energy comes at a cost. The biggest con jobs I have seen in 50 years is

:12:30. > :12:35.the whole renewable energy game and in particular wind turbine is. What

:12:35. > :12:40.we do is be take money of poor people, they put in a 15 %

:12:40. > :12:45.surcharge on everybody's energy bill. But the renewables industry

:12:45. > :12:49.has hit back. The it is good clean energy. It does not have a cupboard

:12:49. > :12:53.footprint. It creates high quality jobs for British workers at British

:12:53. > :12:58.businesses, which I presume is something that UKIP would support.

:12:59. > :13:08.The challenge for many voters could involve separating scientific facts

:13:09. > :13:09.

:13:09. > :13:19.from Spain. -- from Spain. What do you think about renewable

:13:19. > :13:30.

:13:31. > :13:38.energy? Will it create jobs? Bears There is more information on the

:13:38. > :13:43.local elections on our website. Figures show that Bridlington Spa

:13:43. > :13:48.has lost over 800,000 since his 20 million refurbishment four

:13:48. > :13:56.years ago. East Riding council says the losses were expected because of

:13:56. > :14:04.the financial climate and the venue will to sustain itself.

:14:04. > :14:10.have been delayed by a train drivers' strike. The company put on

:14:10. > :14:18.replacement buses. The drivers' union ASLEF is striking over

:14:18. > :14:27.reduced pension contributions. could not get a train. It was a

:14:27. > :14:31.joke. If I miss my flight it will ruin my plans. I value public

:14:31. > :14:41.services, so if in the view of the people who were striking it is

:14:41. > :14:43.

:14:43. > :14:50.worth losing a day's pay for, that Still ahead: New parking wardens

:14:50. > :15:00.for Lincolnshire. Unseen footage of hour round the World yacht as it is

:15:00. > :15:01.

:15:01. > :15:09.swamped by a giant waves. Keep pictures coming in. Tonight's was

:15:09. > :15:18.taken from Flamborough Head looking towards Bridlington. Good evening.

:15:18. > :15:25.How are you? I am very well. A fax came into my hands from Catherine

:15:25. > :15:31.who wants to know how she can block very dull tweets From Peter Levy.

:15:31. > :15:39.The problem is, if she blocks the dull ones there will be none left!

:15:39. > :15:46.The weather looks like slowly improving. It will turn rather

:15:46. > :15:55.cloudy but brighter at times tomorrow. It will be drier than

:15:55. > :16:00.today. A week occluded front will keep conditions slowly improving.

:16:00. > :16:10.We have had an awful lot of cloud on the satellite picture today. It

:16:10. > :16:13.

:16:13. > :16:19.is bringing drizzle to many places in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. A

:16:19. > :16:29.lot of places could become dry will stop temperatures of around seven

:16:29. > :16:37.

:16:37. > :16:43.Celsius. There is a moderate north- A great start. Perhaps damp with a

:16:43. > :16:48.little drizzle in places. The cloud will tend to start to break up.

:16:48. > :16:52.Still be able cloud into the afternoon and one or two showers

:16:52. > :16:58.but brighter than today and some sunshine is expected in quite a few

:16:58. > :17:04.places. It will feel cooler along the coast. Inland with a bit of

:17:04. > :17:08.brightness temperatures will rise to 13 Celsius. Thursday will have a

:17:08. > :17:14.damp start with a lot of cloud but it should brighten up a little bit.

:17:14. > :17:21.There will be patchy rain on Friday. Drier brighter and cooler over the

:17:21. > :17:31.weekend. Can I just say, blue and yellow is not the new uniform, it

:17:31. > :17:31.

:17:31. > :17:34.is just bad planning. We did not get dressed together! Go away! A

:17:34. > :17:39.family from Lincolnshire have been speaking about the millions of

:17:39. > :17:45.pounds of compensation they have received for their daughter in a

:17:45. > :17:49.negligence claim against their daughter. She was awarded 10.8

:17:49. > :17:56.million at the High Court for around-the-clock here for the rest

:17:57. > :18:04.of her life. She is aged 11. She suffered a preventable seizure at

:18:04. > :18:14.the neonatal unit in Lincolnshire in 2001. Can you tell me what you

:18:14. > :18:19.

:18:19. > :18:24.want for lunch? AUTOMATED VOICE: Ham sandwich. A mistake by hospital

:18:25. > :18:32.staff when this girl was born has left her unable to speak and

:18:32. > :18:38.wheelchair-bound. The equipment was faulty so they had no idea that

:18:38. > :18:46.things were going wrong. When they did realise and that it was an

:18:46. > :18:52.emergency they were delayed. Those delays caused the brain damage.

:18:52. > :18:57.has cerebral palsy and needs 24 hour care. Her father, a former Red

:18:57. > :19:04.Arrows pilot, had to give up his job in the air force to help look

:19:04. > :19:09.after her. If you have a disabled child your life changes utterly.

:19:09. > :19:15.There is so much extra you have to do for the child. We have to be

:19:15. > :19:20.there every single moment for her. Lincoln hospital has accepted

:19:20. > :19:27.liability for what has happened and yesterday the family were in court

:19:27. > :19:31.as a judge awarded 11.5 million in compensation. She has very

:19:31. > :19:36.significant needs and we had to appoint experts to assess those

:19:36. > :19:41.needs, how much they would need for care, travel, accommodation and

:19:41. > :19:48.therapy needs. We just do not have to worry now, we have got toys in

:19:48. > :19:53.the kind of equipment we would get which is just so reassuring. They

:19:53. > :19:57.now plan to build a specially adapted home to meet their

:19:57. > :20:06.daughter's needs and make her life as happy and comfortable as they

:20:06. > :20:11.can. Why is this settlement so large? The sheer size of this

:20:11. > :20:15.payout reflects the severity of the girl's needs. As you saw in my

:20:15. > :20:20.report she needs gear for the rest of her life around the clock. This

:20:20. > :20:26.money will help to pay for that care and equipment as well as an

:20:26. > :20:31.new family home. Lincoln County Hospital and the hospital trust

:20:31. > :20:34.have offered this family their unreserved apology. The EC since

:20:34. > :20:42.2001 they have changed their working practices so that nothing

:20:42. > :20:47.like this can ever happen again. -- the sea. Now every town, village

:20:47. > :20:53.and city could soon be controlled by a new traffic wardens. Police

:20:53. > :20:57.are passing ticketing duties to the county council. When this happened

:20:57. > :21:04.in the East Riding the number of tickets issued a rose by 400 %.

:21:04. > :21:08.Some businesses are worried that their customers will be driven away.

:21:08. > :21:12.In Louth town centre illegal parking like this is common. In the

:21:12. > :21:16.narrow streets it can cause congestion but local police say

:21:16. > :21:20.they do not have the resources to deal with the problem effectively.

:21:20. > :21:24.I could put all of my officers in there for a week and we could clear

:21:24. > :21:29.it but then we would go back the following week and it would be

:21:29. > :21:33.exactly the same as before. county council is to take over

:21:34. > :21:37.enforcement and the plan to get tough across the county. We will

:21:37. > :21:43.carry out a higher level of enforcement and rethinks certainly

:21:43. > :21:50.at first there will be an increase in tickets. In the East Riding when

:21:50. > :21:54.a similar system came in ticketing went up 400 %. Businesses are

:21:54. > :21:58.worried their business will be driven away. People will be

:21:59. > :22:08.frightened to pop into the shop leaving their cars outside. It will

:22:08. > :22:13.affect us. Some are interested in the enforcement. Effect slows down

:22:13. > :22:17.the traffic it will be good for everybody, customers, shoppers,

:22:17. > :22:22.businesses accept a but I think of they are going to do that they have

:22:22. > :22:32.to provide reasonable parking elsewhere in the town so that they

:22:32. > :22:38.do not drive our customers away. These days may soon be over. If you

:22:38. > :22:44.have some thoughts on this, is bad driving blighting your community,

:22:44. > :22:49.do you welcome more enforcement? There is a reminder of our text and

:22:49. > :22:53.e-mail address. A woman who lost the use of her legs and learned to

:22:53. > :22:58.walk again thanks to an East Yorkshire invention is now halfway

:22:58. > :23:04.through completing the London Marathon. She is using a special

:23:04. > :23:11.robotic suit. She has passed the halfway point. She has also passed

:23:11. > :23:16.a target of raising 50,000. An East Yorkshire sailor has shown

:23:16. > :23:22.Look North some footage from a stricken round the World Yacht race

:23:22. > :23:29.just there for a giant wave hit his boat. He said it was like a scene

:23:29. > :23:36.from Titanic when he was forced to take cover. The dramatic journey

:23:36. > :23:41.was caught on camera. The pictures show the fine line between

:23:41. > :23:47.adventure and tragedy. 40 foot waves battered B crew. On the right

:23:47. > :23:51.of the picture almost one member was thrown overboard before another

:23:51. > :23:58.crew member scrambles across, risking their own life, to stop

:23:58. > :24:02.them. You can imagine the power, it just comes straight over the top.

:24:02. > :24:09.This man from Yorkshire wanted to be involved in the round the world

:24:09. > :24:15.yacht race as part of a retirement project but his trip of a lifetime

:24:15. > :24:22.became a near-death experience. They shouted weave when they saw it

:24:22. > :24:28.coming and told us to drop. It was mayhem. That mayhem was caused as a

:24:29. > :24:36.giant wave struck the boat, completely destroying deep Steering

:24:36. > :24:46.and injuring four crew members. Below deck, David faced his own

:24:46. > :24:48.

:24:48. > :24:54.frightening ordeal. Water -- then, alarms were all going off. Stuff

:24:54. > :25:00.that was weighed down flew across the place. It was like a water

:25:00. > :25:06.cannon. It was earth-shattering. was an agonising wait to hear that

:25:06. > :25:13.he was OK for David's family. not expect this sort of thing to

:25:13. > :25:23.happen. I knew it could but I did not expect it, it was a real shock.

:25:23. > :25:26.A his next retirement adventure is unlikely to be a cruise! Now a

:25:26. > :25:32.recap of the main national and regional headlines. A damning

:25:32. > :25:40.report from a committee of MPs says Rupert Murdoch is not fit to run a

:25:40. > :25:50.major corporation. Adair disease has reduced two previously healthy

:25:50. > :25:51.

:25:51. > :25:55.brothers to a childlike State. And talking about the renewables in

:25:55. > :26:01.energy, someone tweeted to say renewable energy is a short-term
