:00:21. > :00:26.

:00:26. > :00:36.summer disruption an hour will be added to some journeys. What an

:00:36. > :00:45.inconvenience. He did -- Claims teachers could lose their jobs if

:00:45. > :00:49.they don't agree with gay marriage. Closing the stable door. Humberside

:00:49. > :00:59.Police face the future without any horses. Standing up for Comic

:00:59. > :01:00.

:01:00. > :01:10.Relief. Could you perform a routine for charity? Your detailed weekend

:01:10. > :01:16.

:01:16. > :01:19.Up to 20,000 rail passengers a week will be forced to take a bus

:01:19. > :01:22.instead of a train for six weeks this summer. Network Rail is

:01:23. > :01:31.planning work on a bridge which could add up to an hour onto some

:01:31. > :01:34.journey times in and out of Hull. It means passengers travelling to

:01:34. > :01:37.West Yorkshire and on to Manchester will have to use buses between Hull

:01:37. > :01:39.and Selby while those making the journey to London will be diverted

:01:40. > :01:44.through Goole. In advance of the work, the rail

:01:44. > :01:50.companies and Network Rail are apologising. But there are already

:01:50. > :01:52.fears that business and tourism could suffer. Phil Connell is at

:01:52. > :01:57.Brough station from where passengers will be taking buses

:01:57. > :02:02.when the work is taking place. What have they been telling you? There

:02:02. > :02:07.has been a mixed response from rail passengers. I think most people

:02:07. > :02:11.accept that this work deeds to be carried out. The swing bridge at

:02:12. > :02:21.Selby has failed on several occasions in recent years, but

:02:22. > :02:26.

:02:26. > :02:33.there will be no quick or easy fix to this problem. The swing bridge

:02:33. > :02:39.is a major route for passengers travelling to and from home. There

:02:39. > :02:45.it seems to be no alternative. The bridge is 160 years old and needs

:02:45. > :02:53.urgent repairs. The job of minimising the destruction falls to

:02:53. > :02:57.this man. He told me that work on the bridge was important. You get

:02:58. > :03:01.to a point where you have to keep tinkering with it. We have to do a

:03:01. > :03:09.major rebuild. This is a large project with a lot of money

:03:09. > :03:14.involved. This is an inconvenience that this couple is prepared to

:03:14. > :03:19.accept. They travel frequently from Hull to see their family in

:03:19. > :03:23.Yorkshire. You have to take account of it and realise it will take

:03:23. > :03:30.another half-hour or an hour longer and just work around it. It is not

:03:30. > :03:37.so bad if you are expecting it. Wales companies will be affected

:03:37. > :03:43.between 29th July and 8th September. -- four rail companies. Northern

:03:43. > :03:52.rail and first transport -- first try as benign will face major

:03:53. > :04:00.disruption. Horrendous. If that is the alternative then it is not a

:04:00. > :04:04.great idea. Not very good at all. It has to be done, I suppose. What

:04:04. > :04:09.an inconvenience. Officers from Hull City Council are concerned

:04:09. > :04:14.about the impact on business and tourism. They have written to

:04:14. > :04:19.Network Rail to ask if the work can be less disruptive. Can they be

:04:19. > :04:22.done at weekends or in the evening? We are not certain. But we would

:04:22. > :04:27.rather that we were not cut off from the rest of the world for six

:04:27. > :04:33.weeks. Expect more of this. Diversions will bring an extra 30

:04:33. > :04:37.trains to the town every day. For six weeks this summer, the level

:04:37. > :04:46.crossing he will be very busy. How important is this work to the

:04:46. > :04:49.Selby swing bridge? The bridge is 160 years old and a series of small

:04:49. > :04:53.repairs have a really failed to tackle the problem. What will

:04:53. > :04:57.happen now is that this multi- million-pound project will

:04:57. > :05:01.virtually rebuilt the bridge from scratch. Most of the destruction

:05:01. > :05:05.will take place during the summer but the project will in fact take

:05:05. > :05:13.around two years to complete. In a moment: Under the hammer. An

:05:13. > :05:16.historic east coast landmark is up for sale.

:05:16. > :05:19.Supporters of gay marriage are stepping up their campaign to

:05:19. > :05:22.persuade MPs to back a change in the law. The vote to legalise same-

:05:22. > :05:26.sex marriage takes place next week. But one Lincolnshire MP says some

:05:26. > :05:28.workers could lose their jobs, if they don't agree with gay marriage.

:05:28. > :05:31.Gainsborough's Edward Leigh believes there's a danger that

:05:31. > :05:40.people in some professions could be reprimanded if they speak out

:05:40. > :05:43.against the proposals. More from our Political Editor Tim Iredale.

:05:43. > :05:50.Sharing memories are friends Ian Bower and Kelly Hubbard, who live

:05:50. > :05:53.with their respective partners in Lincoln. They're both in civil

:05:53. > :06:03.partnerships, but hope the law will soon allow them to marry their

:06:03. > :06:07.other halves. For a section of society, probably 10 % of society,

:06:07. > :06:11.they are being denied the right to get married, something that

:06:11. > :06:16.heterosexual people have taken for granted for hundreds of years. That

:06:16. > :06:22.is a question of equality. I am very happy being in my relationship

:06:22. > :06:27.with my partner but it is not equal and I do not think it is viewed by

:06:27. > :06:32.the general population as being equal. You say you are married and

:06:32. > :06:42.people have certain viewpoints on marriage already, whereas there is

:06:42. > :06:45.

:06:45. > :06:48.no historical stigma attached to partnership as opposed to marriage.

:06:48. > :06:50.More than 100 Conservative MPs are expected to oppose the government's

:06:50. > :06:52.proposals when same-sex marriage is debated in the Commons on Tuesday,

:06:52. > :06:55.including many Tories from Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. But

:06:55. > :06:58.opponents of the bill are seeking assurances from the government that

:06:58. > :07:02.people who continue to believe in the traditional definition of

:07:02. > :07:05.marriage shouldn't be penalised for their views. Conservative Edward

:07:05. > :07:15.Leigh wants to amend the Equality Act to protect professions such as

:07:15. > :07:18.

:07:18. > :07:21.teaching. There is a real danger that if the government succeeds in

:07:21. > :07:25.redefining marriage and next week and same-sex marriage comes in,

:07:25. > :07:35.teachers will feel an obligation to say that a gay marriage is just as

:07:35. > :07:41.equal and just as valid as traditional marriage. Kimmeridge

:07:41. > :07:47.still divides opinion. -- gay marriage still divides opinion.

:07:47. > :07:53.believe in gay marriage. Not in a church. I am not religious or

:07:53. > :07:55.anything but I just don't agree with it. Simple as that. Despite

:07:55. > :07:58.opposition from some, MPs look certain to support same-sex

:07:58. > :08:06.marriage, changing for ever the way this ancient institution is

:08:06. > :08:15.recognised by law. Luke Tryl is from a group which

:08:15. > :08:23.campaigns for gay and lesbian rights. He joins me now from London.

:08:23. > :08:27.Is this amendment needed? Absolut Lee not. -- absolutely not. The

:08:27. > :08:32.minister trying to push this through has been absolutely Queer

:08:32. > :08:35.that teachers will still be able to express -- absolutely clear that

:08:35. > :08:40.teachers will still be able to express their beliefs about a

:08:40. > :08:45.marriage under the proposals that are being put forward. Obviously,

:08:45. > :08:52.it would be very odd if equal marriage goes through if teachers

:08:52. > :08:57.deny it exists entirely. I do not think Michael Gove's initiative

:08:57. > :09:03.will mean that teachers are actively telling lies. Should

:09:03. > :09:08.teachers still be able -- expected to educate on this issue? Teachers

:09:08. > :09:12.should be there to educate young people about the world around them,

:09:12. > :09:16.and that means recognising that marriage exists for straight people

:09:16. > :09:20.and hopefully will exist for gay people as well. But that does not

:09:20. > :09:25.mean that they cannot express that some religions believe that

:09:25. > :09:35.marriage remains between a man and a woman. A housing worker has

:09:35. > :09:37.

:09:37. > :09:45.already been demoted because of comments he made about gay marriage.

:09:45. > :09:51.Edward Leigh has a point doesn't he? He took this to court and he

:09:51. > :10:00.found that he was entirely entitled to express his beliefs. We do not

:10:00. > :10:05.need to go back and demand anything yet to change the law. Should

:10:05. > :10:10.teachers be reprimanded? Teachers in faith schools should be able to

:10:10. > :10:14.express the views of certain views on marriage. If a teacher was

:10:14. > :10:18.actively denying that gay marriage existed, then they would be doing

:10:18. > :10:22.their students a great disservice. My view about teachers is that they

:10:22. > :10:28.are there to prepare young people to go into the world around them

:10:28. > :10:38.and they are there to make people well-rounded citizens. Very

:10:38. > :10:41.

:10:41. > :10:48.interesting to chat with you and your views. Do you have a duty to

:10:48. > :10:55.acknowledge same-sex marriage? Your thoughts on this, for teachers and

:10:55. > :11:05.others, it can be sent to us 3 E- mail, text or telephone. -- to us

:11:05. > :11:07.

:11:07. > :11:10.And Tim will be back with the Sunday Politics, from eleven on

:11:10. > :11:15.Sunday morning on BBC One. Guests include Cleethorpes MP Martin

:11:15. > :11:25.Vickers and Hull North MP Diana Johnson.

:11:25. > :11:27.

:11:27. > :11:30.We'd love to hear your views on this story.

:11:30. > :11:33.People in Hornsea have been given more than 350,000 to refurbish and

:11:34. > :11:38.run the town's Floral Hall. Campaigners prevented it being

:11:38. > :11:41.bulldozed when they agreed to take it over from the local authority.

:11:41. > :11:51.East Riding of Yorkshire council is now giving them the money to help

:11:51. > :11:59.

:11:59. > :12:02.Market Rasen has been named as having the UK's best small

:12:02. > :12:04.speciality market. It's won the award from the National Association

:12:04. > :12:06.of British Market Authorities. The organisers were congratulated on

:12:06. > :12:09.their pioneering local entrepreneurship and for creating a

:12:09. > :12:12.theme to each market. Humberside Police is to close down

:12:12. > :12:18.its Police Horse section, saving the force 2 million over the next

:12:18. > :12:23.four years. It's the latest example of how they're sharing some of

:12:23. > :12:26.their services with neighbouring forces. The Chief Constable says he

:12:26. > :12:32.needs to protect front line policing as Sarah Corker reports.

:12:32. > :12:35.A centuries old method of crowd control. They're a common sight at

:12:35. > :12:43.football matches, public protests and on nights out. But from March

:12:43. > :12:49.next year, Humberside Police's Mounted Section will be no more.

:12:49. > :12:53.Its Chief Constable said it's too expensive to maintain. Given the

:12:54. > :12:57.scale of budget cuts this force has to make, the amount of money we

:12:57. > :13:02.will save after removing the branch after 12 months is a key

:13:02. > :13:11.contributor, and if we do not cut it, we will have to get into some

:13:11. > :13:16.real core pits of frontline policing. The unit currently has

:13:16. > :13:19.six horses. In the future it will buy in mounted officers when needed.

:13:19. > :13:24.Sharing resources between neighbouring forces is seen as a

:13:24. > :13:27.way to save money. Last year, the four Yorkshire dive teams were

:13:27. > :13:29.combined into one county wide unit. While two years ago, Humberside and

:13:29. > :13:32.South Yorkshire Police merged their HR and training departments. And

:13:32. > :13:37.nationally there are plans to create a country-wide police air

:13:37. > :13:42.service. Big budget cuts mean forces face tough choices.

:13:42. > :13:46.courses are a frontline police source and this is a case of the

:13:47. > :13:52.austerity measures that the police are facing. This is a loss, and the

:13:52. > :13:59.only way we can get that the source now is if we try to buy it in from

:13:59. > :14:03.another force. What this damage the ability of the force to deal with

:14:03. > :14:11.public order problems in the future? No, not at all. Fewer than

:14:11. > :14:15.a quarter of the police forces have -- police forces in England and

:14:15. > :14:18.Wales have mounted forces. Humberside Police has to save up to

:14:18. > :14:22.25 million over the next four years and today wouldn't rule

:14:22. > :14:31.sharing other resources in the future.

:14:31. > :14:39.Still ahead tonight: The new Rugby League arrivals hoping to make

:14:39. > :14:44.waves in Super League. If he has a son and does not call him one, he

:14:44. > :14:53.has missed a trick. And calling all stand-ups. Could you face an

:14:53. > :14:58.audience for Comic Relief? Cuba photographs coming in. This is a

:14:58. > :15:07.photograph -- keep your photographs coming in. This is a photograph

:15:07. > :15:17.coming in to the docks and Hull. One of our viewers has said that

:15:17. > :15:17.

:15:17. > :15:22.her friend has made a picture of you that she has stuck to her door.

:15:22. > :15:26.What do you call a group of people that forecast the weather? A shower.

:15:26. > :15:32.that forecast the weather? A shower. That is quite good, that. We will

:15:32. > :15:37.be having some sunny spells and scattered when a showers. -- winter

:15:37. > :15:41.showers. There is a ridge of high pressure toppling in from the West

:15:41. > :15:46.will stop this weather front will bring some rain and a bit of sleet

:15:46. > :15:52.on Sunday morning. Behind that, it will turn dry and bright from the

:15:52. > :15:55.West. It is very changeable indeed. We are looking for a showery night

:15:55. > :16:02.across the East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. The showers will

:16:02. > :16:07.creep down eastern parts of the area. Increasingly, there could be

:16:07. > :16:11.some hail, and do not be surprised if you wake up to a slight covering

:16:11. > :16:17.of snow by the end of the night at, especially towards the coastal

:16:17. > :16:27.strip. Wherever you are, lowest temperatures will be zero war plus

:16:27. > :16:28.

:16:28. > :16:37.one. The sun will rise in the morning at 745 -- 7:47am. A cold

:16:37. > :16:41.and windy day tomorrow but bright with some sunshine. Everywhere will

:16:41. > :16:51.be CHEERING AND APPLAUSE And Sonny for Saturday afternoon, --

:16:51. > :16:53.

:16:53. > :17:00.everywhere will be cheery and sunny for Saturday afternoon and drive.

:17:00. > :17:05.It's a cold night on Sunday night and we will seek some -- we will

:17:05. > :17:15.see some snow. Next week looks cold and windy with showers of rain and

:17:15. > :17:19.

:17:19. > :17:26.slow -- snow and sleet. That is the Have a nice way again. See you

:17:26. > :17:28.later! -- have a nice weekend. See you later!

:17:28. > :17:31.One of North East Lincolnshire's most famous landmarks goes up for

:17:31. > :17:34.auction tomorrow. Cleethorpes Pier has a guide price of 400,000 and

:17:34. > :17:37.bids are expected to come from across the UK. Many local people

:17:37. > :17:40.would like to see the new owner turn it in to an entertainment

:17:40. > :17:47.venue attracting big acts to the town. Tarah Welsh reports.

:17:48. > :17:55.It's been standing here for 140 years. And now it's up for sale.

:17:55. > :18:01.Most recently the pier's been used as a night club. This brings us out

:18:01. > :18:05.to the main pavilion and bar entrance. The auction is being held

:18:05. > :18:11.on the pier and those behind it say there's a been lots of interest in

:18:11. > :18:16.such a rare opportunity. Over the past few years there has certainly

:18:16. > :18:20.then three available for sale. It is immaculate in its condition,

:18:20. > :18:25.whereas the previous two appears that have been offered on the

:18:26. > :18:30.suckers have been derelict shells. Pier sale costs are rarely

:18:31. > :18:34.disclosed, but more than 20 years ago this one sold for 1 million.

:18:34. > :18:42.Back in 1873 it was built for just 8,000 and was a huge tourist

:18:42. > :18:45.attraction. 30 years later it was destroyed by fire, but it was fully

:18:45. > :18:51.restored and has since hosted some famous names including the band

:18:51. > :18:57.Blur. He whoever buys this peer will be buying their own little bit

:18:57. > :19:01.of history. During the Second World War, it was taken down to stop the

:19:01. > :19:08.enemy from getting too sure. Now this is the shortest peer in the

:19:08. > :19:13.whole country. And it's one of just 37 piers still in private hands.

:19:13. > :19:17.First and foremost, we do not want to see it right away. If you

:19:18. > :19:22.compare its two Winter Gardens, that wasn't there as a car park,

:19:22. > :19:29.and we do not have -- and we do not want to have it what a way. We want

:19:29. > :19:32.to use it for pantomime. The chuckle Brothers could come.

:19:32. > :19:35.Whether it will sell and who to, is impossible to predict, But it's

:19:35. > :19:45.hoped a new owner will bring a bright future to this much loved

:19:45. > :19:50.

:19:51. > :19:53.landmark. Let's hope it goes to a good owner.

:19:53. > :19:56.Rugby League's new Super League season begins tonight with 14 teams

:19:56. > :19:59.all hoping they'll be crowned champions in October. Hull FC are

:19:59. > :20:02.involved in the first match tonight at Leeds. Along with Hull KR, Hull

:20:02. > :20:05.have brought in new players, hoping to improve on last season. Our

:20:05. > :20:12.sports reporter Simon Clark is live at Headingley. Simon, how important

:20:12. > :20:19.is 2013 to the sport of Rugby League? It is absolutely vital.

:20:19. > :20:24.Cobol and rugby were pushed out last year due to the Olympics. --

:20:24. > :20:31.football. There is a big season coming up. I have met up with a

:20:31. > :20:37.player who is looking to make a name for himself. It is a day off

:20:37. > :20:46.of training, so this player is enjoying family time with his wife

:20:46. > :20:56.and his two-year-old son. But it is a homecoming as well. His

:20:56. > :21:00.

:21:00. > :21:04.grandparents and even his great grandmother live in Liverpool.

:21:04. > :21:12.suppose a British passport helps with getting everyone down here. It

:21:12. > :21:17.has been good. He is really tough and aggressive and uncompromising.

:21:17. > :21:23.I thought that was very valuable. I thought that was what we lacked

:21:23. > :21:32.last year. He is one of the key signings this year along with one

:21:32. > :21:37.from London and one from Huddersfield. Across the city, an

:21:37. > :21:42.Australian man has been signed, and has been welcomed by one of his

:21:42. > :21:46.oldest friends. It is good to be back with him and playing with him

:21:46. > :21:51.again. He is a natural half-back and that is what we have lacked,

:21:51. > :21:59.someone to take control of the team and be able to have a good kicking

:21:59. > :22:04.game. Everyone we have got on board brings something to the table. It

:22:04. > :22:09.is a team sport. The familiar sight of the trophy being lifted is

:22:09. > :22:19.something that all of the players are trying to prevent, and players

:22:19. > :22:20.

:22:20. > :22:24.alike this man hoped that he can be what the big fish this season. --

:22:24. > :22:28.be with the big fish of the season. You introduced us to some of the

:22:28. > :22:38.new stars for both Hull sides in the report. Will they win some

:22:38. > :22:41.

:22:41. > :22:45.Hull have made it their mission statement to be at the top four.

:22:45. > :22:51.That shows their level of high ambition. I can tell you that they

:22:51. > :22:55.had just opened the gates here at Headingley. A handful of us -- a

:22:55. > :22:59.handful of fans are drifting in. A look at the Big Clock out there and

:22:59. > :23:07.it tells us that we have just over one hour ago to the Super League

:23:07. > :23:10.season. How -- one hour to go. For The Hull City manager Steve Bruce

:23:10. > :23:13.says he's disappointed at the behaviour of a player he was trying

:23:13. > :23:16.to sign. Bruce claims while he thought striker DJ Campbell was in

:23:16. > :23:26.negotiations with the Tigers, the player was actually driving across

:23:26. > :23:26.

:23:26. > :23:31.the Pennines to talk to Blackburn. Live go the way they handled the

:23:31. > :23:35.whole situation, to say they regard -- the way they handled the whole

:23:35. > :23:45.situation, to say they were going for lunch, and then to be gone for

:23:45. > :23:51.

:23:51. > :23:56.two hours, that is nothing short of shocking., belief is coming up with
