:03:00. > :03:05.are hurting, getting new blisters on my feet. It has been very painful,
:03:05. > :03:12.but it has been good doing it. injuries will heal but they have
:03:12. > :03:16.been raising money for the men and women who have to live with their is
:03:16. > :03:19.and for the families left without their loved ones. It changed his
:03:19. > :03:25.life massively. It changes it completely. Our main goal was to

:03:32. > :03:42.to do it in memory of Gregg. It is worth more. He was a great lad.

:04:07. > :04:16.in ten under 16 's suffer from a mental health disorder and more than
:04:17. > :04:22.half of adults who have mental health problems were diagnosed in
:04:22. > :04:28.their childhood. Now residential care that was offered at the West
:04:28. > :04:36.End Centre in Hull has been cut because it does not meet new
:04:36. > :04:39.national standards. Parents told us it is a lifeline but the NHS insists
:04:39. > :04:44.that care can be better provided in other ways. Just one month after
:04:44. > :04:46.closing the residential part of the west end children's unit, they had
:04:46. > :04:51.to reopen one of the bed. This woman's 13-year-old daughter
:04:52. > :04:54.suffered a relapse last week after being treated for severe mental
:04:54. > :04:57.health problems. Her words have been re-voiced to protect the identity of
:04:57. > :05:00.the family. It was too dangerous for her to come home. If she was left
:05:00. > :05:10.alone, she would kill herself. I found a knife under her pillow and I
:05:10. > :05:13.
:05:13. > :05:15.was worried. They phoned around for a bed but there were no beds
:05:15. > :05:17.anywhere in the country. This was confirmed in a letter written by her
:05:17. > :05:19.consultant psychiatrist. Former residents like this girl who has
:05:19. > :05:23.struggled with body image, claims the units are lifesavers. Every time
:05:23. > :05:30.I looked at myself, I cried. It is devastating to know it will be shut
:05:30. > :05:33.down, because they need that placed to survive. Her mother agrees.
:05:34. > :05:38.are certain children who need that support. I do not think anything
:05:38. > :05:42.will happen until a child perhaps takes their own life and that is how
:05:42. > :05:46.bad it can get. Local health officials say they have stopped
:05:46. > :05:55.offering residential care here because they could not provide a
:05:55. > :05:58.seven-day service. Instead, all serious cases will travel outside of
:05:58. > :06:01.East Riding for round-the-clock care. The nearest beds are in your
:06:01. > :06:07.work, Leeds and Sheffield. Having treatment so far from home can cause
:06:07. > :06:14.problems according to some experts. You need to make it as easy as
:06:14. > :06:20.possible for the young person and their family to care for the young
:06:20. > :06:24.person and just adding that is going to make things even harder. Health
:06:24. > :06:29.officials insist most young people make a better recovery if they are
:06:29. > :06:34.treated closer to home. Union officials point out that some
:06:34. > :06:38.counselling jobs in Hull are being cut. It is a complex service. The
:06:38. > :06:44.fear is that there are no other services available for these young
:06:44. > :06:52.people, so where will they go close macro this teenager is concerned.
:06:52. > :06:54.do not know what I would do if I did not have that place. Patients and
:06:54. > :07:00.professionals agree that treatment is better if it is carried out
:07:00. > :07:06.closer to home. They cannot agree on how best to achieve this. Joining me

:07:11. > :07:18.concerned are you about the removal of this care? Very concerned for the
:07:18. > :07:21.people that would access the service and their families. Your report
:07:21. > :07:26.pointed out that young people particularly respond better to care
:07:26. > :07:34.and support if it is done in their own home or in their own community.
:07:34. > :07:42.The big worry with this solution is that families will have to travel.
:07:42. > :07:45.Whilst concentrating expertise in a location is a good thing to do,
:07:45. > :07:48.counter to that is you have displaced that young person from
:07:48. > :07:53.their community and you will have the problems of reintegrating them
:07:53. > :07:58.back once they are able to leave. the centre does not meet national
:07:58. > :08:05.standards, it is a good thing that care is provided in other ways?
:08:05. > :08:10.There are choices to be made. You can choose to invest in a service or
:08:10. > :08:15.you can choose to invest elsewhere. I am not in a position to comment on
:08:15. > :08:20.the efficiency of the choices being made, but it has to be recognised,
:08:20. > :08:25.that moving young people out of area will put pressure on the families
:08:26. > :08:29.and present additional problems when those young people want to return to
:08:29. > :08:33.those communities. The NHS says young people do better with mental
:08:33. > :08:41.health problems if they are around their family, so services let this
:08:41. > :08:46.one, aren't they a bit redundant? Not entirely. I am sure the
:08:46. > :08:51.investment will ensure that fewer young people need to go into the
:08:51. > :08:54.residential services. However, those that do will be faced with the real
:08:54. > :08:58.problems and there are families will be faced with the problems of
:08:58. > :09:04.supporting the young person when they come out of those residential
