:00:00. > :00:07.child abuse. That is all from the BBC News at six.

:00:08. > :00:16.Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North. The headlines tonight: Final

:00:17. > :00:31.tributes for the rugby league legend Steve Prescott.

:00:32. > :00:33.The fact the church was so busy says so much about what type of bloke he

:00:34. > :00:39.was. A warning to drivers caught using

:00:40. > :00:44.their mobile phone behind the wheel. You are gambling with your life and

:00:45. > :00:45.you are gambling with other people 's lives.

:00:46. > :00:58.Taking to the Strictly stage ` the the hero who jumped into a water

:00:59. > :01:07.filled ditch to rescue a trap motorist. And taking to the Strictly

:01:08. > :01:21.stage. A risk of ice and frost ahead.

:01:22. > :01:26.Hundreds of people broke out in spontaneous applause as the coffin

:01:27. > :01:29.of former Hull FC rugby league player Steve Prescott arrived at

:01:30. > :01:32.church this morning for his funeral. The 39`year`old died this month

:01:33. > :01:38.after he lost his seven year battle with a rare form of stomach cancer.

:01:39. > :01:41.During that time he raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity

:01:42. > :01:46.and retains a special place in the hearts of sports fans across the

:01:47. > :01:57.country. Phillip Norton reports from his home town of St Helens.

:01:58. > :02:03.From clubs of all colours. Family, friends and fundraisers. The

:02:04. > :02:15.sporting world united in applause for Steve Prescott. St Mary's Lowe

:02:16. > :02:18.House church in his native St Helens was packed for the service to

:02:19. > :02:21.remember his life. More than 2,000 mourners, including the England

:02:22. > :02:26.Rugby League team, gathered to say their farewells.

:02:27. > :02:34.We are here to celebrate Steve's life. We have more and and we will

:02:35. > :02:37.continue to do so but we must remember this great person.

:02:38. > :02:41.Steve Prescott was a legend on the pitch for Hull FC, as well as St

:02:42. > :02:45.Helens, England and Ireland. But in 2006, he was given just months to

:02:46. > :02:48.live when he was diagnosed with a rare form of stomach cancer. He

:02:49. > :02:50.remained defiant, courageously completing gruelling challenges and

:02:51. > :02:54.marathons, raising almost half a million pounds for charity. His son

:02:55. > :03:04.Taylor paid tribute to his dad during the service.

:03:05. > :03:10.When I was five, I made him a promise that I would always do my

:03:11. > :03:15.best and follow my dream of being a sportsman. I would make him as proud

:03:16. > :03:24.of me as I am of him. We will miss him but we will love him for ever.

:03:25. > :03:26.Outside, in drizzle and rain, the crowds remained. Hull FC fans and

:03:27. > :03:42.representatives standing side by side with other mourners.

:03:43. > :03:47.Towards the end of the service, his life was lovingly summed up. Thank

:03:48. > :03:52.you but 39 years of hope and inspiration. We will make sure your

:03:53. > :03:59.name goes on and on. We will let everyone know you were truly one in

:04:00. > :04:09.a million. He was a fantastic bloke. He was one

:04:10. > :04:14.of the best fullbacks I have ever seen. I'm just glad I could come.

:04:15. > :04:24.A private service was held shortly afterwards. A final goodbye to an

:04:25. > :04:31.inspiration and a man whose legacy will live on.

:04:32. > :04:35.In a moment: As unemployment begins to fall in parts of the country `

:04:36. > :04:53.how are these four job`seekers faring in their hunt for work? A

:04:54. > :04:56.woman from Hull whose mother was killed by a texting driver says

:04:57. > :04:59.mobile phones should be switched off completely when behind the wheel.

:05:00. > :05:02.New figures show almost 5500 people in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire

:05:03. > :05:04.have points on their licence for driving while distracted. Now a

:05:05. > :05:09.Yorkshire`based charity is calling for phones to be locked away before

:05:10. > :05:13.drivers set off. Driven to distraction. Whether it's

:05:14. > :05:16.the pressure of modern life or the tedium of the traffic, the claim is

:05:17. > :05:22.too many reach for their mobile phone. But the consequences can be

:05:23. > :05:27.severe. Dawn Timming's mother Mary died on an East Yorkshire road.

:05:28. > :05:33.She'd just been given the all clear from cancer when she was involved in

:05:34. > :05:40.a head on collision. The person that was driving towards

:05:41. > :05:47.Hull was texting on their fallen and lost control of the beer call and

:05:48. > :05:57.hit her head on. `` lost control of the vehicle. Those of us left behind

:05:58. > :06:06.are trying to put our lives back together without that person.

:06:07. > :06:20.A campaign group is calling for people to turn off their mobile

:06:21. > :06:28.phones or pack them away safely. Pro`driving groups insist that

:06:29. > :06:32.hands`free kits as a and people shouldn't have to turn their forms

:06:33. > :06:38.of altogether. The deterrent against using even a

:06:39. > :06:58.hand`held phone isn't great so we would like to see that buying put up

:06:59. > :07:12.to a minimum of ?8,000 `` ?1000. I don't have Bluetooth or anything.

:07:13. > :07:15.If I'm driving, I can ignore it. Of course there are other distractions

:07:16. > :07:17.` cigarettes, food, even passengers. The question being posed by road

:07:18. > :07:28.safety campaigners I would say turn it off, silence,

:07:29. > :07:34.get it away, because the temptation is too great.

:07:35. > :07:36.Earlier, I spoke to John Siddle from the Lincolnshire Road Safety

:07:37. > :07:41.Partnership and asked him whether he thought phones in cars should be

:07:42. > :07:46.banned completely. We talk about mobile phones and we

:07:47. > :07:51.have the disparity here between a hand`held phone and hands`free

:07:52. > :07:55.phones. The same applied to both, they are both as dangerous as each

:07:56. > :08:01.other. People have been eating and drinking

:08:02. > :08:08.behind the wheel for years. I can't see the difference.

:08:09. > :08:12.There is a big difference. Statistically your reaction time is

:08:13. > :08:19.35% slower when you are on the phone and driving than that of a drunk

:08:20. > :08:24.driver. It can't be more dangerous than drinking.

:08:25. > :08:36.If you need to drop your mobile if you are in trouble, you can. You can

:08:37. > :08:41.suddenly sober up. We have found there is a physical

:08:42. > :08:45.distraction. What about a parent with two

:08:46. > :11:27.screaming kids in the back of the car? Would you ban them.

:11:28. > :11:33.A man who jumped into a water`filled ditch to rescue a motorist who was

:11:34. > :11:37.trapped upside down in a crashed car has been described as a hero by

:11:38. > :11:40.police. Andy Stubbs says he went to help after his wife heard the crash

:11:41. > :11:44.near their home in Brothertoft near Boston. He says the road where it

:11:45. > :11:47.happened is an accident black spot and wants the council to make

:11:48. > :11:52.improvements to make it safer. Amy Cole is there. It was purely by

:11:53. > :12:00.chance that the driver got any help at all. Andy and his family were at

:12:01. > :12:04.a remembrance service for someone who had died in a road traffic

:12:05. > :12:10.accident when they heard a noise coming from the ditch. They could

:12:11. > :12:15.see the car in the ditch and that it had started to take on water and the

:12:16. > :12:23.driver was trapped inside. It was pitch black and getting cold. The

:12:24. > :12:30.police say that the driver is very lucky to be alive.

:12:31. > :12:44.It appears that the driver ended up in this ditch, for reasons unknown.

:12:45. > :12:52.There was a car overturned in the dream. I helped to calm him down.

:12:53. > :12:57.His head was above the water so we helped them a little bit until

:12:58. > :13:03.people arrived. Andy reckons that the driver was in

:13:04. > :13:08.the ditch for about 45 minutes. Lincolnshire Police praised Andy's

:13:09. > :13:20.willingness to help. Lotsa people would say that lots of

:13:21. > :13:27.other people would do that but only certain people can step up to the

:13:28. > :13:38.mark. I think he saved the driver's life. We have had about eight or

:13:39. > :13:45.nine incidents of people going into the drain. I have reported this to

:13:46. > :13:54.the council but have had no success in getting anything done. He hopes

:13:55. > :14:01.that the council will now act. Andy has told me that he has spoken

:14:02. > :14:10.to the Highways Agency and the wheels `` they will send out people

:14:11. > :14:16.to look at the ditch. That ditch has more than a ten foot vertical drop.

:14:17. > :14:21.It is very dangerous and there are always people like Andy on hand

:14:22. > :14:40.willing to help out. Well done to Andy.

:14:41. > :14:45.Still ahead tonight: Putting on a show at the Blackpool tower ballroom

:14:46. > :14:51.` the Grimsby dancers starring on the Strictly stage.

:14:52. > :15:03.The roar as we came out was just phenomenal.

:15:04. > :15:06.That's a great story. Tonight 's picture now. Tracy Needham took this

:15:07. > :15:27.of Brantingham in East Yorkshire. I have had an e`mail saying that

:15:28. > :15:43.they saw you in a cafe. They say you look better in the flesh.

:15:44. > :15:50.For the next 24 hours it is colder. We will have a frost tonight but

:15:51. > :16:03.plenty of sunshine tomorrow. Just the risk of one or two wintry

:16:04. > :16:11.showers along the coast. The cold front is still across Lincolnshire

:16:12. > :16:19.so still in narrow ribbon of rain pushing out. It will be cold

:16:20. > :16:39.tonight. A widespread frost and watch out for icy patches. The sun

:16:40. > :16:46.will rise at these times. Watch out on the roads first thing.

:16:47. > :17:00.A crisp start but a sunny one. Just the hint of a new wintry showers

:17:01. > :17:11.along the coast. Inland it will be dry but you will notice how cold the

:17:12. > :17:18.air is. We morning has a wet start in places turning brighter. Sunny

:17:19. > :17:27.intervals and scattered showers on Thursday.

:17:28. > :17:38.You should be using their ibid more make up their need is to wet the

:17:39. > :17:42.receding hairline. That got you! The latest figures show a fall in

:17:43. > :17:45.unemployment across the country. But in the Yorkshire and Humber region

:17:46. > :17:48.and across the East Midlands, which includes Lincolnshire, more than

:17:49. > :17:53.400,000 people are still looking for work. Last month we introduced you

:17:54. > :17:56.to these four ` Teri, Stefan, Josh and Jess `who're all hoping to find

:17:57. > :18:08.employment. Four weeks on, Gemma Dawson has been to find out how

:18:09. > :18:17.they're getting on. I'm job`hunting. I wonder if you

:18:18. > :18:23.have any job vacancies. Teri has been unemployed for four years and

:18:24. > :18:28.are starting to give up hope. Since I first met her last month, she has

:18:29. > :18:35.spent hours pounding the pavements looking for vacancies. I have been

:18:36. > :18:47.trying my best but it just gets me down. I can't do any more than my

:18:48. > :18:58.best and I just feel upset. Back at her apartment, Teri admits she's

:18:59. > :19:11.struggling with debt. This is the longest I've ever been

:19:12. > :19:18.between jobs. I don't know what to do. Stephan has also remained

:19:19. > :19:28.unemployed. `` Stefan. It's all right looking

:19:29. > :19:40.for work but if you cannot get anybody to employ you, you have two

:19:41. > :19:46.employ yourself. Josh is also making plans for the

:19:47. > :19:52.future. He is one month into his traineeship and is hoping to work at

:19:53. > :19:59.the builders merchants. I am still the siding which one to

:20:00. > :20:06.choose. Jess is already getting a taste of

:20:07. > :20:11.work. This is her first be helping out at the new primary school. It

:20:12. > :20:16.has been stressful because it is the first day back at work but I have

:20:17. > :20:22.enjoyed it and it has reassured me that working with children is

:20:23. > :20:26.something that I want to do. But these four are still searching

:20:27. > :20:31.for their happy ending as they continue to prepare for work.

:20:32. > :20:36.We wish them well. And we'll continue to follow the four as they

:20:37. > :20:42.try to find a job here on BBC Look North over the next few months.

:20:43. > :20:49.They went to practice their scuba`diving but ended up at the

:20:50. > :21:00.centre of one of the worst storms in history. Now soldiers have been

:21:01. > :21:15.describing how they helped after the typhoon.

:21:16. > :21:28.That is a typhoon coming in over the mountain.

:21:29. > :21:42.We are talking a freight train passed the window and doors for two

:21:43. > :21:48.hours. It was full on. We took shelter in what we thought was the

:21:49. > :21:51.safest structure which was concrete building but we realised the

:21:52. > :21:59.following morning that the roof had been lifted off.

:22:00. > :22:06.This is where they were in relation to the eye of the storm. There were

:22:07. > :22:10.hundreds of miles away but the storm still had power. Now back at their

:22:11. > :22:17.base in East Yorkshire, they are taking stock of the recovery

:22:18. > :22:28.operation. Most of the population live in rough

:22:29. > :22:37.hearts with bamboo panels. `` rough huts.

:22:38. > :22:45.We were clearing trees with machetes. We just did the best we

:22:46. > :22:55.could with what we had. The locals are very resilient.

:22:56. > :22:59.They have been lucky to escape one of the strongest storms in history.

:23:00. > :23:12.This is one training exercise these men won't forget.

:23:13. > :23:15.Volunteers from the Royal Voluntary Service have been told they'll have

:23:16. > :23:18.to compete with high street brands to run coffee shops at hospitals in

:23:19. > :23:21.Goole and Scunthorpe. North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust

:23:22. > :23:30.says asking people to bid to run the catering facilities will improve the

:23:31. > :23:40.service for patients and visitors. Utterly appalled and disgraced that

:23:41. > :23:44.they could even consider this. We are told that hospitals are not

:23:45. > :23:54.having budget cuts so there is no need for this.

:23:55. > :23:58.The Strictly Come Dancing spotlight has been on Grimsby over the past

:23:59. > :24:00.few weeks as 11 million people watch the progress of locally`born

:24:01. > :24:03.professional dancer Kevin Clifton and his celebrity partner Susanna

:24:04. > :24:06.Reid. This week though there was more than just Kevin representing

:24:07. > :24:09.North Lincolnshire. It was a family affair on BBC One as the whole

:24:10. > :24:28.Clifton family starred on the programme. Simon Spark reports.

:24:29. > :24:46.On Saturday's Strictly, Grimsby's on Kevin Clifton and Susannah reads got

:24:47. > :24:58.three tens. Kevin's sister, here on the right, .

:24:59. > :25:06.Kevin and I danced on that floor for many years so it was emotional.

:25:07. > :25:18.The rest of his family were there as well. They are seen here opening the

:25:19. > :25:22.show. They were watching the show back today.

:25:23. > :25:31.I didn't believe it at first. I thought it was a joke.

:25:32. > :25:44.Every time that music comes on now, here stands up on the back of your

:25:45. > :26:05.neck. The Road was just phenomenal. I cannot describe it. `` the roar.

:26:06. > :26:13.Is it too early to dear to hope? As soon as they say his name, my

:26:14. > :26:18.stomach goes... I was so proud. I had a few tears. I think they are

:26:19. > :26:24.doing really well and I think they should win.

:26:25. > :26:37.Fantastic dans on Saturday. It continues next Saturday. Let's get a

:26:38. > :26:42.recap of the national and regional headlines.

:26:43. > :26:47.Two Internet giants are to crack down on Internet child abuse search

:26:48. > :26:49.terms. Hundreds line the streets to pay their respects to the Hull FC

:26:50. > :26:52.star Steve Prescott. Tomorrow's weather: A frosty start

:26:53. > :26:56.with icy patches. Otherwise most places dry with just a small chance

:26:57. > :27:03.of a wintry shower, mainly along the coast. Cold with a maximum

:27:04. > :27:08.temperature four Celsius. We've had a big response on the

:27:09. > :27:16.story about driving with mobile phones. Annie says that phones

:27:17. > :27:22.should be turned off and put in the boot of the car. Our daughter was

:27:23. > :27:27.nearly knocked off her bike. Another correspondent says what about

:27:28. > :27:37.changing the radio station? When is it going to stop? Steve says, nanny

:27:38. > :27:40.state going over the top again. It won't along before the driver is

:27:41. > :27:44.sealed in a separate box away from any distraction altogether. Have a

:27:45. > :28:03.nice evening. Goodbye. 'We wanna do

:28:04. > :28:05.a science fiction series.' CS Lewis meets HG Wells meets

:28:06. > :28:12.Father Christmas, that's the Doctor.
