:00:00. > :00:00.will keep you up to date. That's all from the BBC

:00:00. > :00:12.Good evening. You are watching BBC Look North. Our headlines: Three men

:00:13. > :00:17.are jailed following the petrol bombing of a Grimsby mosque, in

:00:18. > :00:21.revenge attack for the murder of Lee Rigby. A significance sentence for

:00:22. > :00:25.three individuals that decided, in the wake of a tragedy in Woolwich,

:00:26. > :00:29.to take the law into their own hands. They unnecessarily put

:00:30. > :00:33.people's lives at risk. The pioneering cancer treatment that

:00:34. > :00:37.could see patients avoiding surgery. Hull City head into their festive

:00:38. > :00:40.fixtures with fans hoping for Christmas gifts.

:00:41. > :00:44.To stay in the Premier League. Win tomorrow. That will probably be the

:00:45. > :00:50.best thing. A win against Man United. That will be nice.

:00:51. > :00:56.Good luck Kevin and Susanna. Messages of support for Kevin from

:00:57. > :00:59.Grimsby, ahead of the Strictly come dancing final.

:01:00. > :01:02.I will be back later in the programme with all the weekend

:01:03. > :01:11.weather, plus a week ahead at the Christmas week.

:01:12. > :01:19.Our top story tonight: This was the moment two former soldiers fire

:01:20. > :01:24.bombed a Grimsby mosque while worshippers were inside. The attack

:01:25. > :01:30.was in revenge for the murder of Lee Rigby in London, four days earlier.

:01:31. > :01:33.Today a judge sentenced Stuart Harness, Gavin Humphries, and donele

:01:34. > :01:37.Cressey, each to six years in prison. They were caught after

:01:38. > :01:44.filming themselves on CCTV making and throwing the petrol bombs.

:01:45. > :01:50.Two former British soldiers with unblemished records, but who, on

:01:51. > :01:55.21st May, did this to a mosque in Grimsby? Inside, members of the

:01:56. > :01:58.Muslim community who had just finished evening prayers. In a

:01:59. > :02:02.statement read out in court today, one worshipper said he was about to

:02:03. > :02:07.open the doors. If he had done so 30 seconds earlier, he would have been

:02:08. > :02:11.set alight. An hour earlier, Stuart Harness and Gavin Humphries were

:02:12. > :02:14.caught on their own CCTV camera making the bombs. They were seen

:02:15. > :02:18.burning off excess petrol in the table and carrying the bombs to a

:02:19. > :02:23.waiting car. Driving that car was Harness' cousin, 25`year`old Daniel

:02:24. > :02:28.Cressey. This all took place just four days after the death of

:02:29. > :02:32.Fusilier Lee Rigby in London. The court heard today how Harness had

:02:33. > :02:37.been based at the same barracks. In sentencing these men today his

:02:38. > :02:41.honour, judge Berry said it was a premeditated act of retaliation in

:02:42. > :02:47.the wake of the death of Fusilier, Lee rig bi. He said, "Whatever your

:02:48. > :02:50.feelings of outrage, you should have allowed justice to take its course.

:02:51. > :02:54.He said it was a crime of violence where a particular religious group

:02:55. > :03:01.were targeted and this kind of attack cannot be tolerated." Hence

:03:02. > :03:05.the six`year sentence. There were gasp in court when all telemen were

:03:06. > :03:10.given a six`year sentence, despite the fact that Daniel Cressey had not

:03:11. > :03:15.thrown a petrol bomb He played his part in a planned and calculated

:03:16. > :03:20.attack on innocent people doing no more than honouring and carrying out

:03:21. > :03:26.their religious beliefs in in a sleepy road in Grimsby. As a result,

:03:27. > :03:30.the judges a accurately reflected his cull pabibility. He had to get

:03:31. > :03:36.them there, in the hours of darkness, to the scene, protected.

:03:37. > :03:41.We want to say thank you to our neighbours and the people of Grimsby

:03:42. > :03:44.and surrounding areas who send us support in the aftermath of the

:03:45. > :03:48.attack in the forms of cards and e`mails. At what was a difficult

:03:49. > :03:53.time for the Muslim community we were heartened by the overwhelming

:03:54. > :03:57.frorp all communities. Locally no`one has hurt in this attack, and

:03:58. > :04:01.damage was kept to a minimum because of the quick actions of those inside

:04:02. > :04:05.but the effects of what happened here, are still being felt. For

:04:06. > :04:10.some, this mosque is no longer their place of santurary. Caroline Bilton

:04:11. > :04:13.is outside the Grimsby mosque and Islamic do you recall centre.

:04:14. > :04:17.Caroline, the attack was several months ago, but what impact is it

:04:18. > :04:22.still having on people there? Well, Tim, in court today a statement was

:04:23. > :04:25.read out by the Chairman of the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Muslim

:04:26. > :04:29.community. In that, he said although calm has now been restored to this

:04:30. > :04:33.community, there is still a fear here that people won't want to come

:04:34. > :04:39.and worship here. They have improved security. They have installed more

:04:40. > :04:45.CCTV cameras and today's sentencing isp hoped will draw a line under all

:04:46. > :04:49.of this, so people here can move forward and so, really, that work

:04:50. > :04:52.can continue to improve and restore confidence within the Muslim

:04:53. > :04:55.community here. Thank you.

:04:56. > :04:59.So, the question we are asking is: How effective are these sentences in

:05:00. > :05:04.deterring people from carrying out these kind of attacks? Do you think

:05:05. > :05:12.more should be done to try to stop attacks on minorities? Get it touch

:05:13. > :05:18.in the usual way. You can e`mail us: text us: .

:05:19. > :05:32.Stay with us for Friday's Look North. In a moment, the village in

:05:33. > :05:36.Lincolnshire where residents say they'll be cut off until the New

:05:37. > :05:39.Year as work begins on a new level crossing.

:05:40. > :05:43.The body of a man has been found on an estated in North Hull. Officers

:05:44. > :05:47.were called to the Orchard Park estate after receiving a call from a

:05:48. > :05:51.member of the public in the early hours. A section of Hall Road was

:05:52. > :05:55.closed while investigations were carried out. Police are currently

:05:56. > :06:00.treating the death as unexplained and many residents say they are

:06:01. > :06:08.worried. Well, it's very nerve`wrecking, yeah. We live in the

:06:09. > :06:12.end house, you know. She heard a bang, she heard noise in the early

:06:13. > :06:16.hours. But she lives on her own. The next door neighbour said there was

:06:17. > :06:20.flashing lights and stuff. It's just a bit weird, isn't it? You are

:06:21. > :06:24.making up and hearing about a dead body on your own estate, it is mad,

:06:25. > :06:27.isn't it? You don't know what to think, really. Hull is to be the

:06:28. > :06:32.fist centre in the country to offer a paineering new cancer treatment.

:06:33. > :06:37.The new technology uses ultrasound beams to destroy tumours. It means

:06:38. > :06:41.some breast cancer patients could soon be treated without the need for

:06:42. > :06:48.surgery. Most of the new money has come from local fund`raisers.

:06:49. > :06:54.This MRI scanner at Hull Royal doesn't just take detailed pictures

:06:55. > :06:57.this. One can treat patients as W scientists say it could

:06:58. > :07:04.revolutionise care, reducing the need for surge in some breast cancer

:07:05. > :07:09.patients. What we would like to do, once we have done our pilot study

:07:10. > :07:12.and some research, is to treat the tumour where it is, but actually

:07:13. > :07:16.then, for the patient not to progress to surgery. This would mean

:07:17. > :07:19.the patient would be able to skip the surgical procedure. This new

:07:20. > :07:24.technique is thought to be very safe, as they are constantly

:07:25. > :07:30.monitoring throughout the process. They use the MRI scanner to get 3D

:07:31. > :07:34.pictures of the body without using X`rays then ultrasound beams are

:07:35. > :07:39.guided by the MRI to the site of the tumour, so it can be blasted and

:07:40. > :07:42.destroyed. Ann Purdy is a former breast cancer patient. She says the

:07:43. > :07:48.new non`invasive procedure could make a huge difference. I, every

:07:49. > :07:54.day, live with the scarring of mastectomy. After that I had to have

:07:55. > :07:59.reconstruction and ` just the trauma of that, physically and emotionally,

:08:00. > :08:04.has been quite a journey. This project is not just a first for the

:08:05. > :08:08.city. It's the first trial of its kind in the UK. We've got a huge

:08:09. > :08:13.opportunity here to really be a leader in the game. Certainly within

:08:14. > :08:18.the UK, if not certainly in Europe and possibly even globally. The

:08:19. > :08:22.equipment we have purchased is right down there at the back. Much of the

:08:23. > :08:27.?400,000 cost of the equipment has been raised locally.

:08:28. > :08:31.I just feel very proud. I hope we can continue to go from

:08:32. > :08:36.strength`to`strength purchasing equipment like this for this area.

:08:37. > :08:41.If this pilot project is deemed to be a success, this technology could

:08:42. > :08:45.be adopted across the world, meaning many thousands of women with the

:08:46. > :08:51.smallest tumours, could one day avoid surgery.

:08:52. > :08:54.Some more of today's news now. A Hull teenager accused of stabbing

:08:55. > :08:59.his grandmother to death will go on trial for a second time next month

:09:00. > :09:03.after the original jury were discharged for legal reasons.

:09:04. > :09:07.17`year`old Lewis Dale is accused of killing his grandmother, Irene. He

:09:08. > :09:12.denies murder and attempted murder. He will be tried again next month.

:09:13. > :09:17.A man has been jailed for life for the murder of an antiques dealer

:09:18. > :09:23.from full Sutton. Peter Battle was found dead at his home in February.

:09:24. > :09:26.27`year`old Graham Richardson, will serve a minimum of 27 years in

:09:27. > :09:30.prison for murder and robbery. There will be a six`monthd

:09:31. > :09:35.consultation into the speed limit on a major road into Grimsby. Some

:09:36. > :09:40.motorists argue Peaks Parkway should have a 40 miles per hour limit. Last

:09:41. > :09:43.night councillors voted against immediately increasing the speed

:09:44. > :09:49.limit from 30. The matter needs to be dealt with now. The sooner the

:09:50. > :09:52.better and to wait for another six months, I feel is really

:09:53. > :09:56.unnecessary. What that says to me is that an

:09:57. > :10:02.awful lot of people are going to end up being fined for the next six

:10:03. > :10:06.months. I don't think it is fair. Work will begin tonight on a level

:10:07. > :10:10.crossing which people living in a part of Lincolnshire, say will leave

:10:11. > :10:14.them completely cut off over Christmas. People in parts of

:10:15. > :10:20.Saxilby, divided by the railway line, will have to take a shuttlebus

:10:21. > :10:24.to get from their homes on West Bank into the village. The work will

:10:25. > :10:28.continue into the new year, as Jessica lane reports.

:10:29. > :10:33.Preparing for their first family Christmas at home in years. Maggie

:10:34. > :10:38.says being cut off won't be convenient, especially when people

:10:39. > :10:42.are coming with overnight bags and presents. They are having to go up

:10:43. > :10:48.to the sports field, leave the car, on to a minibus. Round to the

:10:49. > :10:54.drop`off point, walk over the footpath and the bridge, on to

:10:55. > :10:59.another minibus and down to our house and unload again. Network Rail

:11:00. > :11:03.says the crossing has to be fully upgraded. The work was originally

:11:04. > :11:10.planned for the summer but had to be put back when this route was used as

:11:11. > :11:17.a diversion because of a spoil heap slip at a Coylierry.

:11:18. > :11:22.Shuttlebus also take them to this footbridge. They'll have to walk

:11:23. > :11:29.over and get on a bus at the other said. Network Rail said:

:11:30. > :11:34.Simon runs a sub diving business and says Network Rail has gone out of

:11:35. > :11:37.its way to help people. They have offered to help us carry any

:11:38. > :11:43.equipment we need over the footbridge. The crossing gates have

:11:44. > :11:48.also been the bane of our lives. With the new barriers, the train

:11:49. > :11:53.will come, the barriers will go down, up they come. The work will

:11:54. > :12:00.finished in January when the gates will open again, allowing West Bank

:12:01. > :12:04.villagers to cross into their village once more. Still ahead on

:12:05. > :12:08.the programme: # Good morning to you... #

:12:09. > :12:13.As Kevin and Susanna prepare for the Strictly final, their support from

:12:14. > :12:18.children at Kev's former school. He is really good. I want him to win.

:12:19. > :12:25.I'm really proud of him. Kevin and Susanna, good luck.

:12:26. > :12:32.Tonight's weather image is the Christmas tree in Queen Victoria

:12:33. > :12:37.Square in Hull from Saskia Blacker, with what is it, five more sleeps to

:12:38. > :12:42.go. And thank you for all your messages about Peter Leavy's

:12:43. > :12:50.whereabouts. Derek did tweet and say ` has he got a bug, has he got that

:12:51. > :12:55.Christmas bug called tinselitis? Paul Hudson didn't seem too

:12:56. > :13:00.concerned and Keeley is here? Has Peter got you a Christmas present?

:13:01. > :13:05.He wasn't poorly at all. I went out for lunch with him. He is slacking.

:13:06. > :13:10.He has been scouring the pound shops for his present. That's definitely

:13:11. > :13:13.Paul. Good weather for last`minute Christmas shopping? Some heavy

:13:14. > :13:17.showers about tomorrow. Sunday doesn't look too bad. But I tell you

:13:18. > :13:22.what, if you are making the Christmas getaway, that dash on

:13:23. > :13:26.Monday, allow plenty of time. Horrible wet and windy weather to

:13:27. > :13:30.come. Tomorrow breezy, with plenty of dry weather and some sunshine.

:13:31. > :13:33.Watch out, a few very heavy showers in the offing. You can see that

:13:34. > :13:36.weather system that will affect us through the coming night. Behind it

:13:37. > :13:39.breezy conditions. I think this will be a theme through the next few

:13:40. > :13:44.days, we will keep that breeze. You can see this mass of cloud out to

:13:45. > :13:48.the north`west. It has spilt south`eastwards. The skies are

:13:49. > :13:53.cloudier. Already patchy rain around. Through the course of the

:13:54. > :13:56.evening, gutsy winds and along the coast outbreaks of rain from the

:13:57. > :13:59.north`west. It'll clear to the south`east later in the night T

:14:00. > :14:03.won't be a desperately cold night. Much milder than the frosty

:14:04. > :14:07.conditions we woke up with this morning. Temperatures around to six

:14:08. > :14:15.or seven. The sun will rise in the morning at 8.17 and setting at 3.42:

:14:16. > :14:21.So tomorrow, a bit of a mixed bag. It is going to be a breezy day for

:14:22. > :14:24.all of us. There will be a decent amount of bright and dry weather

:14:25. > :14:28.about. But there will be the risk, on and off through the course of the

:14:29. > :14:34.day of little bands of showers pushing through. I say "little."

:14:35. > :14:39.Some will be heavy with squally winds and the risk of thundser but

:14:40. > :14:43.it won't be raining all day. Temperature`wise into double figures

:14:44. > :14:47.tomorrow. 10 is 50 Fahrenheit. Sunday, probably the better chance

:14:48. > :14:51.of staying dry and it'll be cooler. Still we'll have that breeze. As I

:14:52. > :14:55.mentioned earlier on Monday. Wet and windy weather sweeping in from the

:14:56. > :14:58.west. I'm hopeful after a wet start it the day on Christmas day. It'll

:14:59. > :15:01.brighten up from the north. Thank you very much. We'll keep an

:15:02. > :15:06.eye on that whether as the weekend goes on. Our top story again and the

:15:07. > :15:11.jailing of three men for a fire bomb attack on a Grimsby mosque. A judge

:15:12. > :15:14.sentenced Stuart Harness, Gavin Humphries and Daniel Cressey, each

:15:15. > :15:18.to six years in prison. They were caught after filming themselves on

:15:19. > :15:30.CCTV, making and teling the petrol bombs. .ify as mug hall is from

:15:31. > :15:35.Faith Matters `` Fijaz z Mughal is from an organisation aimed at

:15:36. > :15:44.joining together different religious groups. Do you think this will deter

:15:45. > :15:48.other attacks on mosques I think so, they are heavy sentences. It'll send

:15:49. > :15:52.out a strong message. Strong sentencing. We welcome that. We've

:15:53. > :15:56.had the conviction of Lee Rigby's killers for that terrible attack on

:15:57. > :16:04.Woolwich. Do you fear there could be a new wave of attacks on mosques? We

:16:05. > :16:07.do fear the possibility of some kind of reprisal on the back of what has

:16:08. > :16:12.happened. However what we are seeing right now is not the level of

:16:13. > :16:17.activity we saw post`Woolwich. The activity is minuscule compared to

:16:18. > :16:21.what it is in Woolwich. So there are positive indications that what

:16:22. > :16:25.happened after Woolwich and the backlash is not happening now.

:16:26. > :16:30.That's a positive side. We say to members of the Muslim be community,

:16:31. > :16:37.stay vigilant. In mosques, think about the safety and imam's safety

:16:38. > :16:42.and watch around the bounds of your mosque. We had the situation where a

:16:43. > :16:48.man, in jail now for 40 years minimum, put bombs and other

:16:49. > :16:54.materials in the West Midlands. We say to mosques, nothing to worry

:16:55. > :16:57.about you but keep a watching eye around your institutions. In recent

:16:58. > :17:01.years, governments have worked hard to try to prevent the radicalisation

:17:02. > :17:06.of young Muslim men. Do you think there should be a similar scheme in

:17:07. > :17:11.place, targeted at young, white men with extremists views? This is what

:17:12. > :17:15.the new extremism task forces paper, which came out last week, tries. I

:17:16. > :17:20.don't think it gets the balance right. But it has inserted in there

:17:21. > :17:29.the Irish issue of far`right activism. We say `` the issue of

:17:30. > :17:36.far`right active. We say it is targeted towards the small number of

:17:37. > :17:42.Muslim men. We say they need to keep an eye out into the small area of

:17:43. > :17:50.trying to attack far`right extremists which predominantly

:17:51. > :17:53.focuses on Muslim communities. We must leave it there. Unemployment

:17:54. > :17:57.across the UK has fallen to its lowest level since 2009. The latest

:17:58. > :18:01.figures released earlier this week, show the jobless total has dropped

:18:02. > :18:05.by 6,000 across Yorkshire and the Humber and it has fallen by the same

:18:06. > :18:09.number in the East Midlands, which includes Lincolnshire. Over the last

:18:10. > :18:15.few months, we have been following these four, Teri, Stefan, Josh and

:18:16. > :18:21.Jess, who are all hoping to find work. Gemma Dawson has been finding

:18:22. > :18:26.out how they are getting on. This is Josh's dream job. He has been

:18:27. > :18:30.helping out at this building centre in Horncastle for the last few

:18:31. > :18:33.weeks. He wants to stay and with a eventually like a permanent job

:18:34. > :18:39.here. Mainly it has been out in the

:18:40. > :18:44.warehouse, helping a few customers get, for example, some cement bags

:18:45. > :18:48.and bit wood and loading it on to the vans and stuff. Mainly just

:18:49. > :18:52.helping customers. So we have been looking at functional maths and

:18:53. > :18:58.English today. This is a little bit of a fun activity. Back in college,

:18:59. > :19:01.Josh and Jess are half`way through their traineeship. The past few

:19:02. > :19:08.months on in course has helped Jess make a big decision about her

:19:09. > :19:12.future. I'm currently looking at a teacher assistant diploma that I'm

:19:13. > :19:16.going to go on for a study programme next year. I think it was the fact I

:19:17. > :19:20.was in work placement I felt so comfortable. I felt comfortable

:19:21. > :19:27.there and it didn't take me long to get into the swing of it. Can I have

:19:28. > :19:30.a toffee and the lemon drizzle case. In Ruskington Stefan has made a

:19:31. > :19:35.decision about his future. He has been unemployed for 17 years due to

:19:36. > :19:40.epilepsy, but plans to launch his own literacy business on February.

:19:41. > :19:44.When you are on dole, as they put it, you don't get much money. It is

:19:45. > :19:48.not like somebody is already working in a job, getting a nice income and

:19:49. > :19:53.starting up their own business would be a dro. For me, I'm getting very

:19:54. > :19:59.little anyway, about ?100 a week, so I don't have to earn that much to

:20:00. > :20:04.actually replace the dole. Terry, too, has made a life`changing

:20:05. > :20:07.decision. She has been looking for work for more than four years and

:20:08. > :20:12.feels she has tried everything to find a job. She has lived here in

:20:13. > :20:16.Bridlington for most of her live but is now planning to move to

:20:17. > :20:24.Doncaster. I've no more connections here any more. So, I think the best
