:00:00. > :00:09.Australia. More about the weather where you are on-line. That's

:00:10. > :00:13.Good evening, and welcome to BBC Look North.

:00:14. > :00:15.The headlines tonight: The rising cost of stand`in consultants as our

:00:16. > :00:21.hospitals battle to fill senior medical jobs.

:00:22. > :00:26.I would have to really consider it in terms of hours. I do want to have

:00:27. > :00:30.a family at some point in the future and I do not know if it would fit in

:00:31. > :00:32.with my plans for that. The Lincolnshire teacher

:00:33. > :00:36.hospitalised after her car was crushed by an African elephant.

:00:37. > :00:43.The Lincolnshire footballer who believes he's the only openly gay

:00:44. > :00:50.player in the English game. The quality should be here for

:00:51. > :00:54.everybody. Like racism, we have got over that, it should be the same

:00:55. > :00:58.with homosexuality. Move over, Sydney ` why tourism

:00:59. > :01:01.bosses want the Humber Bridge to be the latest major visitor attraction.

:01:02. > :01:09.Milder air around rain on the way tonight, that five`day forecast

:01:10. > :01:16.follows shortly `` Mulder air and rain on the way.

:01:17. > :01:18.Hospitals in our area are still having problems recruiting full`time

:01:19. > :01:21.doctors to work in accident and emergency departments. New figures

:01:22. > :01:24.obtained by the Labour Party show that spending on temporary staff in

:01:25. > :01:32.hospitals across northern Lincolnshire and Goole has increased

:01:33. > :01:39.by 25% to more than ?900,000 a year. Our health correspondent, Vicky

:01:40. > :01:43.Johnson reports. This is the front line of emergency

:01:44. > :01:45.care. But many of our A simply couldn't function without locums `

:01:46. > :01:58.they're temporary or freelance doctors who fill gaps in the rota.

:01:59. > :02:02.It is because fewer graduates opting to specialise in emergency medicine.

:02:03. > :02:06.Ruth brand is a fourth`year medical student. She admits that while she

:02:07. > :02:12.enjoys the buzz of the department long nights and weekend working put

:02:13. > :02:18.her off. I would have to really consider it. I want to have a family

:02:19. > :02:27.at some point in the future and I do not know if that would fit in. In

:02:28. > :02:34.the year 2009`2010 ?737,000 was spent on local doctors. I last year

:02:35. > :02:45.that figure had risen to 920,000. That is a rise of around 25%. With

:02:46. > :02:52.six out of ten A consultant posts still not filled, that is likely to

:02:53. > :02:55.continue to rise. Today the opposition blamed the government.

:02:56. > :03:02.The first warning signs were three years ago. No, the problem was a

:03:03. > :03:08.historic one. This has the building for the last decade. When my

:03:09. > :03:13.honourable friend was Secretary of State he failed to make those

:03:14. > :03:21.long`term workforce decisions. Increasing pay and changing hours is

:03:22. > :03:25.not the only answer, I am told. I am not doing it because it pays well, I

:03:26. > :03:32.am doing it because I want to do right by the people of this country.

:03:33. > :03:35.Pay does not attract me. However they decide to tackle the problem of

:03:36. > :03:40.getting more doctors to work permanently and A, one thing is

:03:41. > :03:46.certain, that it will not be a quick fix.

:03:47. > :03:52.What can the NHS do to get more full`time doctors into A? We

:03:53. > :03:59.search shows that around half of training posts current legal

:04:00. > :04:04.unfilled. To try to entice more young doctors to go into A they

:04:05. > :04:09.are going to do this by introducing more flexible working, by cutting

:04:10. > :04:15.hours, increasing the holiday pay and by introducing more training. As

:04:16. > :04:22.the young undergraduate told us, something must be done to encourage

:04:23. > :04:27.a better worklife balance. `` work`life balance. It takes six

:04:28. > :04:31.years to train somebody to work in emergency medicine, sword looks like

:04:32. > :04:37.our hospitals are going to face a further drain on their budgets as

:04:38. > :04:41.they continue to use hospital will comes `` so it looks like. We want

:04:42. > :04:44.to hear from you on this story. Do you think it matters whether doctors

:04:45. > :04:48.are temporary? Maybe you think more needs to be done to make it more

:04:49. > :04:51.attractive to work in A? You can get in touch on e`mail or

:04:52. > :05:04.text. In a moment: The council without

:05:05. > :05:07.enough councillors ` why no decisions can be made in the

:05:08. > :05:12.Lincolnshire town that's been left underrepresented.

:05:13. > :05:15.A teacher from Lincolnshire has had a lucky escape after an elephant

:05:16. > :05:19.attacked the car she was in while on safari in Africa. It rolled the car

:05:20. > :05:29.several times, piercing her thigh with its tusk. And it was all caught

:05:30. > :05:33.on camera. Caroline Bilton reports. Getting up close and personal with

:05:34. > :05:34.the wildlife in South Africa, but within moments this

:05:35. > :05:42.once`in`a`lifetime experience turned horribly wrong. And it was all

:05:43. > :05:46.caught on camera by tourists in a car just 100 feet away. You see the

:05:47. > :05:51.elephant turn and then roll the car over and over again. Inside, a

:05:52. > :05:58.teacher from Lincolnshire, Sarah Brooks, and her partner. Both no

:05:59. > :06:01.doubt fearing for their lives. This is where the attack took place ` the

:06:02. > :06:05.Kruger National Park, one of the largest game reserves in Africa and

:06:06. > :06:09.a popular destination with tourists. For this couple, it was a holiday

:06:10. > :06:13.they were lucky to survive ` Miss Brooks was stabbed in her thigh by

:06:14. > :06:17.one of the elephant's tusks after it penetrated the car. Her partner

:06:18. > :06:22.suffered less serious injuries. At the school where Sarah Brooks worked

:06:23. > :06:28.in Spalding, a sense of shock. They say they wish her a full and speedy

:06:29. > :06:30.recovery. The general manager at the Kruger National Park says the

:06:31. > :06:34.elephant had to be killed because they could not understand its

:06:35. > :06:36.behaviour. They later discovered it had been experiencing a condition

:06:37. > :06:41.where testosterone levels rise, causing male elephants to become

:06:42. > :06:44.more aggressive. For this couple, this was a close encounter that

:06:45. > :06:57.perhaps was a little too close. Caroline Bilton, BBC Look North.

:06:58. > :07:00.Witnesses have described in court today how they saw an East Yorkshire

:07:01. > :07:04.woman hysterical, upset and not knowing what she was doing after a

:07:05. > :07:07.fatal car collision with her sister. Rosie Ann Stone denies causing the

:07:08. > :07:11.death of her sister Jennie last February when their cars collided on

:07:12. > :07:23.the A165 near Fraisthorpe. Simon Spark has been in court today.

:07:24. > :07:26.Simon, what have you heard? Peter, we've heard numerous accounts mainly

:07:27. > :07:29.from witnesses who were in the queue of traffic that followed a flatbed

:07:30. > :07:32.lorry at 40mph on the A165 Fraisthorpe Straight. From what

:07:33. > :07:36.we've heard today, Rosie Ann was behind the lorry and over took it,

:07:37. > :07:39.but at the same time Jennie Stone, her sister, was overtaking from

:07:40. > :07:42.further back along that queue of traffic. They collided, Jennie

:07:43. > :07:45.seemed to lose control and ran into a tree. The question here was

:07:46. > :07:49.whether Rosie Ann was careless in her manoeuvre and whether that

:07:50. > :07:53.caused the death of her Sister. Today we heard from the lorry

:07:54. > :07:55.driver, from a van driver and from a driver that witnessed them three

:07:56. > :07:59.abreast coming from the other direction, a key piece of evidence

:08:00. > :08:05.came from Sarah Jane Williams, who was directly behind Rosie as she

:08:06. > :08:09.pulled out in her car. She saw her indicate and checked her own mirror

:08:10. > :08:17.to do the same, she said it was clear but she double`checked and saw

:08:18. > :08:19.Jennie's blue car coming at speed. She later described how upset Rosie

:08:20. > :08:25.Ann was, shouting, "Jennie, what have you done it for, I didn't see

:08:26. > :08:28.you, what have you done it for?" But the police's view from, senior

:08:29. > :08:31.investigating officer John Rusted, was that Jennie was in the process

:08:32. > :08:34.of overtaking and prior to that Rosie Ann had the opportunity to

:08:35. > :08:44.observe her overtaking in her rear`view mirror. The case continues

:08:45. > :08:48.tomorrow. An inquest into the death of a Red

:08:49. > :08:51.Arrows pilot has heard that the number of engineers on the team has

:08:52. > :08:55.increased since the accident. Sean Cunningham died when his ejection

:08:56. > :08:58.seat went off while his plane was on the ground at RAF Scampton two years

:08:59. > :09:01.ago. The coroner heard this morning that a senior engineer has been

:09:02. > :09:07.employed and is currently being trained.

:09:08. > :09:11.Police have been granted more time to question a man who was arrested

:09:12. > :09:15.after a person was found dead in Louth. Richard Samuel Woods, who was

:09:16. > :09:18.32, was found at a house on Spring Terrace in the early hours of

:09:19. > :09:24.Sunday. The 23`year`old man was arrested at the scene.

:09:25. > :09:27.Still ahead tonight: The Lincolnshire footballer who believes

:09:28. > :09:33.he's the only openly gay player in the English game.

:09:34. > :09:49.And forget Sydney or the Golden Gate ` why the Humber Bridge could be the

:09:50. > :09:52.next big tourist attraction. Don't forget to keep your

:09:53. > :09:55.photographs coming in. If you have one that you're proud of send it in

:09:56. > :10:19.by e`mail or hard copy. John says, it has been dull, can you

:10:20. > :10:27.ask what happened to the winter sunshine?

:10:28. > :10:32.It is always dull in Willoughby! Does that mean that you got it

:10:33. > :10:37.wrong? Moving on... It was nice in Lincolnshire.

:10:38. > :10:44.The headline for the next 24 hours is quite a cloudy one, especially in

:10:45. > :10:49.Willoughby frigate will be some patchy rain at first and then again

:10:50. > :10:56.later `` where there will be some patchy rain. This weather front will

:10:57. > :11:00.bring more patchy rain and from the south`west later tomorrow and into

:11:01. > :11:05.tomorrow it will be mostly dry. It will be a generally bright day apart

:11:06. > :11:12.from some stubborn cloud persisting across certain parts. That will come

:11:13. > :11:15.across as in the next few hours, just a touch of ground frost right

:11:16. > :11:20.now but temperatures are on the rise with some cloud and rain and drizzle

:11:21. > :11:28.spreading eastwards. There will be some misty nets over the tops of the

:11:29. > :11:36.walls. By dawn tomorrow morning it will be new verse six or seven

:11:37. > :11:43.Celsius. The sun will rise in the morning at around ten past eight. A

:11:44. > :11:55.grade, dull start with outbreaks of patchy rain. `` a great, dull start.

:11:56. > :11:59.Patchy rain will threaten once more from the south`west. The most

:12:00. > :12:06.notable feature from tomorrow will be the temperatures. A mild feel

:12:07. > :12:11.tomorrow afternoon, generally figures reaching ten or even 11

:12:12. > :12:18.Celsius. A bit of patchy rain on Wednesday night, a dull start on

:12:19. > :12:32.Friday, otherwise dry and bright. Saturday looks quite damp with

:12:33. > :12:39.further rain or drizzle at times. One plane today had a vapour trail

:12:40. > :12:43.and wondered not. Can you ask Paul by?

:12:44. > :12:48.I have no idea. Koch you on the hop there. `` court

:12:49. > :13:00.to you. See you tomorrow. He plays in front of hundreds of

:13:01. > :13:03.people every week, and one Lincolnshire footballer says he

:13:04. > :13:05.believes he's the only openly gay player in the professional or

:13:06. > :13:08.semi`professional game. Liam Davis was speaking days after the former

:13:09. > :13:10.Premier League midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger came out. The

:13:11. > :13:13.23`year`old Gainsborough Trinity player says he hopes there will be

:13:14. > :13:17.many more openly gay footballers in the game by the time he finishes his

:13:18. > :13:20.career. He spoke to our sports reporter Simon Clark.

:13:21. > :13:26.It has been quite a week in the life of cafe owner and semiprofessional

:13:27. > :13:28.footballer Liam Davis. He decided to make his homosexuality public even

:13:29. > :13:35.though family and most team`mates already knew. The reaction, he says,

:13:36. > :13:40.has been astonishing. The amount of stuff that has come out from it,

:13:41. > :13:43.support on Twitter and Facebook, as you would expect, social media in

:13:44. > :13:47.this day and age, has been fantastic. The number of people that

:13:48. > :13:53.have been contacting me for articles, TV things, it has been a

:13:54. > :14:05.lot more than I expected. Only last week Thomas Hitzlsperger

:14:06. > :14:10.revealed that he was gay, hopefully encouraging others to come out.

:14:11. > :14:13.Hopefully it will encourage others because they will see that they can

:14:14. > :14:18.still be professional football players, play at the highest level,

:14:19. > :14:26.and still be gay. It is not a contradiction, as I proved. The lads

:14:27. > :14:36.have been relaxed about it. We cannot treat it as something

:14:37. > :14:41.different because it is just Liam. As long as he performs well on

:14:42. > :14:56.Saturday that is all we kill about. `` all we care about. Liam hopes

:14:57. > :15:02.that coming out could help others to deal with their sexuality and sport.

:15:03. > :15:10.It comes out another sports but football seems to be a still a bit

:15:11. > :15:13.worried about it. We still need more action from the FA and putting money

:15:14. > :15:20.into things like campaigns and poster campaigns to say that it is

:15:21. > :15:25.okayed to be gay in football. Tonight the FA have told us that

:15:26. > :15:35.those who discriminate against Lyon and other gay players will face the

:15:36. > :15:39.appropriate sanctions. `` discriminate against Liam.

:15:40. > :15:42.Simon mentioned Justin Fashanu in his report there, so far the only

:15:43. > :15:46.gay professional football player to come out while still playing. Sadly

:15:47. > :15:56.he committed suicide in 1998. I can speak to his niece, Amal. Good

:15:57. > :16:01.evening. We have 5000 professional footballers, why do think that none

:16:02. > :16:06.of them have owned up to being gay? I suppose it is something pretty

:16:07. > :16:09.scary and I do not think that the environment is designed or set or

:16:10. > :16:17.has been in the past four footballer to decide to want to come out. I

:16:18. > :16:24.think that after Justin Fashanu and the example that he set, it showed

:16:25. > :16:28.that there was fear and that if you do commit something bad will happen

:16:29. > :16:32.to you. It is all revolving around negativity and if you do come, what

:16:33. > :16:38.will happen and, like Justin Fashanu, but nowadays things are

:16:39. > :16:45.changing. This is the proof that things are changing. Do you think

:16:46. > :16:51.that your uncle would think that enough progress has been made? It

:16:52. > :16:54.does not look like it. It is kind of sad because footballers are advised

:16:55. > :16:59.by other people like managers and agents. I think that the way that

:17:00. > :17:04.they are managed as along the lines of, do not come out, if you do then

:17:05. > :17:08.it will not be good for you. The outcome will not be positive, but

:17:09. > :17:11.really it is and you should always find the time to be true to who you

:17:12. > :17:14.are because otherwise you have other types of problems like depression or

:17:15. > :17:23.other things are having to commit suicide. So you think that these

:17:24. > :17:29.taunts and abuse that people are worried about, that it would not

:17:30. > :17:32.happen? We are in 2014, like me there are many other individuals who

:17:33. > :17:36.share their mentality that if a footballer came out regardless of

:17:37. > :17:40.whether he was playing retired nobody really cares any more. In

:17:41. > :17:45.order to make it so that nobody should care, then you have to come

:17:46. > :17:49.out and be who you are, why pretend? Why do normal street food follows

:17:50. > :18:02.not want to talk about the subject `` normal straight footballers? You

:18:03. > :18:09.must be delighted and proud that Liam has come out to talk about it.

:18:10. > :18:13.I am, I detained him amazing. Who cares? It is none of my business who

:18:14. > :18:21.you go to bed with that night. If you are a good player then that is

:18:22. > :18:29.lime and trusted on. It is great for him to be who he is. Do you think

:18:30. > :18:33.that stories like Liam's will encourage more people come out? Do

:18:34. > :18:37.you think that football needs to do more to tackle homophobia? Just a

:18:38. > :18:46.reminder, here is the e`mail address... Officials from Hull City

:18:47. > :18:50.Council will find out what they need to do to provide a permanent home

:18:51. > :18:52.for the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious when it is

:18:53. > :18:55.decommissioned next year. Business leaders in the city would

:18:56. > :18:59.like to use the ship as a floating tourist attraction on the Humber.

:19:00. > :19:09.They'll now get the chance to view the vessel and learn more about the

:19:10. > :19:12.bidding process. A man has appeared via videolink at

:19:13. > :19:16.Newcastle Crown Court after a fire on a ferry just off the Bridlington

:19:17. > :19:19.coast last month. Six people had to be winched off the DFDS ship and

:19:20. > :19:22.were airlifted to hospital. Boden George Hughes is charged with arson

:19:23. > :19:29.reckless to endangering life, and affray. He's due to go on trial in

:19:30. > :19:32.June. We asked for your response to the

:19:33. > :19:35.news that fracking could be carried out in Lincolnshire. French oil

:19:36. > :19:47.company Total is investing ?28 million in test drilling for shale

:19:48. > :19:51.gas near Gainsborough. There was a very big response on this story,

:19:52. > :19:54.thank you very much indeed. Jenny in Hornsea said, "I'm really

:19:55. > :19:58.against it because obviously there are grounds for having it banned in

:19:59. > :20:02.France and other European countries. I think we need to look into why it

:20:03. > :20:05.has been banned in other countries, look at the scientific evidence and

:20:06. > :20:32.the debate behind it before any decisions are made." Bill

:20:33. > :20:42.they are supposed to be the backbone of local Chrissy, town and parish

:20:43. > :20:51.councils look after a range of 80s. `` of local communities.

:20:52. > :20:54.According to the locals, all is not as it should be in this small

:20:55. > :21:02.Lincolnshire market town. They say it's a bit shabby and rundown, as

:21:03. > :21:05.Mike Chiappini explains. This is another concern I have about the

:21:06. > :21:09.parish council not maintaining things around the town. This is a

:21:10. > :21:13.nice sign which welcomes people to Wainfleet as you come in on this

:21:14. > :21:19.direction. It has been missing from this poll for released 12 months.

:21:20. > :21:22.Here you can see a pile of rubbish inside the cemetery which would

:21:23. > :21:26.normally be inside a very large wheelie bin but for some reason that

:21:27. > :21:31.has disappeared. This is another item which I think that the town

:21:32. > :21:34.council should be attending to. It was only put up last year.

:21:35. > :21:38.The problem is that Wainfleet Town Council currently has just three

:21:39. > :21:40.members and cannot make any legal decisions or sanction any changes

:21:41. > :21:47.because the council needs at least four members to have a quorum. They

:21:48. > :21:51.are in a Catch`22, I appreciate that, but they should have seen this

:21:52. > :21:54.coming, I think, in my opinion, should have seen what is happening

:21:55. > :21:58.and done something about it before now. But the council claims it is

:21:59. > :22:01.trying to do something about the situation and says it knows people

:22:02. > :22:08.interested in joining but is unsure how to bring them in. Whilst we know

:22:09. > :22:12.that we can advertise we are not sure whether we can legally co`opt

:22:13. > :22:22.them. That is something that we are asking, can we advertise, but can we

:22:23. > :22:26.also adopt those prospective councillors, or is that something

:22:27. > :22:29.that only you can do. East Lindsey District Council says it is aware of

:22:30. > :22:33.the current arrangement and is waiting to be officially contacted

:22:34. > :22:36.by the parish clerk. It says it has powers to help the town council to

:22:37. > :22:40.appoint new members and set the council tax precept. For the time

:22:41. > :22:43.being, the town council says it accepts residents concerns and is

:22:44. > :22:49.keen to restore a full council as soon as possible. Amy Cole, BBC Look

:22:50. > :22:53.North. The Hull City owner says he'll leave

:22:54. > :22:56.the club if plans to change the name aren't approved. Owner Assem Allam

:22:57. > :22:59.said there was no doubt he would leave if the Football Association

:23:00. > :23:04.don't approve his proposed name change to Hull Tigers. Meanwhile

:23:05. > :23:11.Allam confirmed that a deal to sign Nikica Jelevic will be finalised.
