:00:00. > 3:59:59life changing experience. The question is whether the Games will
:00:00. > :00:12.deliver a lasting change to Good evening. An East Yorkshire MP
:00:13. > :00:17.is asking the government for more than ?200 million to improve flood
:00:18. > :00:22.defences around the Humber. 1,100 homes in the area were flooded
:00:23. > :00:25.during the tidal surge in December. The MP for Haltemprice and Howden,
:00:26. > :00:28.David Davis, is lobbying the government to provide money for work
:00:29. > :00:31.on the defences. Kate Sweeting reports.
:00:32. > :00:37.For John and Liz Kirk from Yokefleet in East Yorkshire, this caravan is
:00:38. > :00:43.now home. Now after 11 weeks, it is just really depressing now and it
:00:44. > :00:46.gets you down after all this time. 1,100 homes in the Humber area were
:00:47. > :00:51.flooded during December's tidal surge. Now with predictions that
:00:52. > :00:57.extreme weather will become more common there are calls for the East
:00:58. > :01:01.Coast to be better protected. We are the second highest flood risk in the
:01:02. > :01:05.country. That is going to get worse as sea levels go up, then we are
:01:06. > :01:09.going to get more and more risks like this and we have to do
:01:10. > :01:12.something about it. The plan is to raise the height of parts of the
:01:13. > :01:15.river bank which protect thousands of homes from flooding but which
:01:16. > :01:19.were overtopped during December's tidal surge. There are also plans to
:01:20. > :01:24.create water holding areas and to remove some flood defences to allow
:01:25. > :01:27.some areas to flood. This has already been done in Aukbrough,
:01:28. > :01:32.Paull and Donna Nook, albeit amid controversy, as many did not want to
:01:33. > :01:36.see that land lost. All of this work would cost more than ?200 million,
:01:37. > :01:41.money which would largely have to come from the government. It's a big
:01:42. > :01:46.project. We're looking forward 20 years from now. It's a very
:01:47. > :01:50.important area, very valuable assets and so it's right to invest a large
:01:51. > :01:54.amount of money in such an important area.
:01:55. > :01:59.If it's not done all this land will be reclaimed. Nature will just take
:02:00. > :02:03.its own back again, won't it? Unless you fight it.
:02:04. > :02:07.Liz and John hope to stay in this village for the rest of their lives,
:02:08. > :02:09.and it's hoped if this work is carried out, it will also be saved
:02:10. > :02:17.for future generations. People living in Grimsby have met
:02:18. > :02:21.tonight to talk about the planned new series of Skint which could be
:02:22. > :02:24.filmed in the town. People on the Nunsthorpe estate expressed their
:02:25. > :02:29.worries about the programme which shows how people survive without
:02:30. > :02:32.being employed. More than 800 people have signed a petition calling for
:02:33. > :02:37.filming to cease. Gemma Dawson reports.
:02:38. > :02:41.Ah, Scunthorpe... This TV show was watched by millions. Scunny is
:02:42. > :02:48.perhaps best known for the steelworks. Or what's left of 'em.
:02:49. > :02:51.Skint was based on life on this Scunthorpe estate, but the Channel 4
:02:52. > :02:54.show proved to be controversial. Tonight people in Grimsby have
:02:55. > :03:00.attended a public meeting concerned it could be the featured town in the
:03:01. > :03:05.next series. People here are very proud of their town. We don't really
:03:06. > :03:08.want that to be hit by a negative programme. The fact that we're
:03:09. > :03:11.joining together shows that it's no longer down to big decision makers,
:03:12. > :03:15.it's down to the people, the people's power. It showed that
:03:16. > :03:20.people are very concerned and they care about their town. We don't want
:03:21. > :03:25.to be vilified in this way. I'm going home feeling very positive.
:03:26. > :03:30.There's a huge number of people and everyone with one voice. Loads of
:03:31. > :03:34.creativity, lots of ideas and a desire to carry this forward. This
:03:35. > :03:39.is a group that's united and I think that's unstoppable. Channel 4 didn't
:03:40. > :03:42.attend tonight's meeting because it says it offered to meet organisers
:03:43. > :03:44.in person as part of a wider consultation process which has
:03:45. > :03:48.involved community organisations and over 100 residents. But test filming
:03:49. > :03:53.has already taken place on the East Marsh estate and the Nunsthorpe area
:03:54. > :03:56.of Grimsby. People need to know the conditions in which people in this
:03:57. > :04:01.country, which the Prime Minister himself has now admitted is a
:04:02. > :04:06.wealthy country. The conditions some people have to live in, they need to
:04:07. > :04:13.see it and know it. If they see it as entertainment then that's their
:04:14. > :04:16.problem. Channel 4 says it can't definitely confirm the final
:04:17. > :04:21.location of the next series yet. But many at tonight's public meeting are
:04:22. > :04:23.hoping it won't be here. Lincolnshire's Police and Crime
:04:24. > :04:28.Commissioner has apologised to the chief constable he suspended last
:04:29. > :04:32.year. Neil Rhodes was subsequently reinstated by a High Court judge.
:04:33. > :04:37.Alan Hardwick says his apology is sincere and unreserved. But he says
:04:38. > :04:40.his intention was to act appropriately.
:04:41. > :04:43.The last two remaining flying Lancaster bombers are to fly
:04:44. > :04:48.together in Lincolnshire. A bomber from Canada will arrive at RAF
:04:49. > :04:51.Coningsby in August. It'll fly alongside the Lancaster from the
:04:52. > :04:57.Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Last year was the 70th anniversary
:04:58. > :05:01.of the Dambusters raids. Hull City are into the quarterfinals
:05:02. > :05:05.of the FA Cup after a 2`1 win over Brighton at the KC Stadium tonight.
:05:06. > :05:10.Two first half goals were enough to give the Tigers the win. Simon Clark
:05:11. > :05:20.was at the game. Do City have a real chance in this competition now?
:05:21. > :05:24.They have never won this competition but what an opportunity this season
:05:25. > :05:29.presents now they are in the quarterfinals. Let me show you how
:05:30. > :05:39.they got there. First up this from Curtis Davies. Soon after it was to
:05:40. > :05:45.win this free kick `` free kick took a deflection from Robert Koren. They
:05:46. > :05:54.spurned and opportunity to increase before Brighton at themselves their
:05:55. > :05:57.goal. The Tigers held on for a two to one victory. This is what the
:05:58. > :06:01.fans thought. They made hard work of tonight but at least we're through.
:06:02. > :06:04.It is absolutely fabulous, I love it, me. I'm thrilled, can't wait for
:06:05. > :06:08.Sunderland. We've done the double over them, three times will be good
:06:09. > :06:10.for me. It was very very scary the last ten minutes but absolutely
:06:11. > :06:19.brilliant. Absolutely brilliant, Sunderland, crack on. Hull City have
:06:20. > :06:27.only been in the quarterfinals six times. They have only gone beyond
:06:28. > :06:34.that, 1913 into the semifinals. And if they are in the semifinals this
:06:35. > :06:42.year it is at Wembley Stadium. The quarterfinal date, the second week
:06:43. > :06:47.in March. It is turning wetter and windier. Rain spreading in from the
:06:48. > :06:53.west. The rain tending to clear towards morning. A mild night and
:06:54. > :06:57.temperatures down to six or seven degrees. The cloud will break up
:06:58. > :07:04.quite nicely tomorrow and it will get brighter sickly. A decent day,
:07:05. > :07:08.dry and bright. The risk of the odd shower and not until later on. The
:07:09. > :07:14.breeze will be quite gusty and now eased out later. Not quite as mild
:07:15. > :07:19.as today, but at 212 degrees. It will be more like 10 degrees.
:07:20. > :07:27.Another decent day on Wednesday, bright and easy. Rain into Thursday.
:07:28. > :07:30.We're back tomorrow at 6:25am with the breakfast bulletins. We hope you
:07:31. > :07:43.can join us then. Goodbye for now. Good evening. We have a spell of wet
:07:44. > :07:46.and windy weather working across the British Isles. Today brought many of
:07:47. > :07:51.us some decent spells of sunshine and it brought us some decent
:07:52. > :07:58.temperatures. In fact, our warmest day of the year so far.
:07:59. > :08:04.At the moment, though, things have changed. This is the gap in the
:08:05. > :08:08.satellite picture. Now, this curl of cloud looks like a snail's shell, it
:08:09. > :08:11.is an area of low pressure that is sweeping wind and rain across us.
:08:12. > :08:16.It's pushed into the west already and is now making rapid progress
:08:17. > :08:17.eastwards, moving into eastern England through the small
