:00:00. > :00:10.first British champion. That is it for now.

:00:11. > :00:13.Good evening. Independent traders in Beverley say

:00:14. > :00:16.the disruption caused by the refurbishment of the market place

:00:17. > :00:20.has lost them thousands of pounds in business. They're calling on the

:00:21. > :00:24.council to do more to advertise the fact that the works are coming to an

:00:25. > :00:26.end in the hope of attracting more shoppers back to the town. Caroline

:00:27. > :00:30.Bilton reports. They've been working on this for

:00:31. > :00:33.over a year but the end is finally in sight. In four weeks' time, the

:00:34. > :00:36.transformation of Beverley's Saturday Market will be complete but

:00:37. > :00:42.for local traders here, it has come at a cost. It has affected takings

:00:43. > :00:45.really badly. I would say that currently we are taking about half

:00:46. > :00:50.of what we would normally take in a week at the same time of year.

:00:51. > :00:54.Emma Curtis runs this clothing boutique ` she fears the work may

:00:55. > :01:01.have put people off shopping here. People now need to be encouraged

:01:02. > :01:04.back. There needs to be a lot of good advertising about it, work

:01:05. > :01:07.coming to an end and Beverley is open for business and there are lots

:01:08. > :01:10.of fantastic shops here. This has been a controversial scheme

:01:11. > :01:14.from the start when protests took place to keep the cobbles. It lead

:01:15. > :01:21.to a compromise being made by the council but it also meant the work

:01:22. > :01:24.would take a further ten weeks. I think always the worry is that you

:01:25. > :01:30.think, have people find somewhere else to go in the meantime? `` have

:01:31. > :01:34.people found somewhere else to go? And that we don't know until it has

:01:35. > :01:37.all cleared up and people start to come back. The work was planned

:01:38. > :01:40.extremely carefully. We carried out work on footpaths in the first

:01:41. > :01:44.instance so we maintained access to every business in Beverley at all

:01:45. > :01:47.times. The key message for me is, Beverley is open for business. There

:01:48. > :01:50.are other car parks just off the Market Square, off Lairgate, off New

:01:51. > :01:54.Watergate, all the businesses are open and have been open throughout

:01:55. > :01:58.this period of work. It has been awkward to get around but it has

:01:59. > :02:02.been worth it in the end, I think. It looks really good. We thought the

:02:03. > :02:05.disabled parking was at that end but now you can't drive through, you

:02:06. > :02:09.have to come out and come round. It will be safer for the pedestrians,

:02:10. > :02:13.I'd imagine, but a bit confusing for the cars. You just can't get parked.

:02:14. > :02:17.They have made a whole mess of the place. I think something had to be

:02:18. > :02:19.done. Whether we have got best value for money...

:02:20. > :02:23.This jewellery store has also seen a drop in trade, but it's hoping the

:02:24. > :02:26.works will benefit them in the long`term. It's cost ?2.6m ` traders

:02:27. > :02:30.here are counting down the days to find out if it's enough to entice

:02:31. > :02:33.shoppers back to this town. Caroline Bilton, BBC Look North, Beverley.

:02:34. > :02:36.A credit union which offers loans has secured ?200,000 to expand its

:02:37. > :02:39.services in Grimsby. Supporters of the project say it's essential to

:02:40. > :02:42.stop people signing up for high`interest loans. Seven new jobs

:02:43. > :02:50.at the union are being created with the money. With the welfare reforms

:02:51. > :02:54.that have been happening over the last two or three years, a lot of

:02:55. > :02:59.people are in a lot of need and therefore, as the council, we have

:03:00. > :03:01.invested a lot of money in order to bring the credit union into the

:03:02. > :03:05.21st`century, fit for purpose. Onto Rugby League, and both Hull

:03:06. > :03:09.teams have been in action. It was an afternoon to forget for Hull FC as

:03:10. > :03:14.they lost 7`0 to Widnes. But it was better news for Hull Kingston

:03:15. > :03:17.Rovers. They beat Bradford 16`0. In football, Hull City are eight points

:03:18. > :03:20.above the Premier League relegation places after beating West Brom 2`0.

:03:21. > :03:24.And in League Two, Scunthorpe United are in second after another narrow

:03:25. > :03:28.win. Simon Spark has the details. Shane Long was the centre of

:03:29. > :03:32.attention as the team he left in January were the visitors to the KC

:03:33. > :03:37.Stadium, and his was a pivotal role as Hull eased their relegation

:03:38. > :03:40.concerns. The Irishman went down in the area to earn a penalty that Ben

:03:41. > :03:46.Foster saved from Nikica Jelavic, before Liam Rosenior headed in for

:03:47. > :03:49.his first goal since October 2009. Six minutes later, Long then added

:03:50. > :03:56.the second, after West Brom had failed to clear a corner. The second

:03:57. > :03:59.half was less eventful, with Long's strike against the post from 20

:04:00. > :04:02.yards the highlight for the home team, but Steve Bruce had targeted

:04:03. > :04:09.ten wins for survival this season, and the Tigers now have nine.

:04:10. > :04:13.Overall, we have managed to take the points off the teams that really are

:04:14. > :04:18.going to be around us. Today was that day. We have not played well on

:04:19. > :04:22.the day, but we have done enough, we have done enough with our resilience

:04:23. > :04:24.and attitude to get a result which obviously is very important at this

:04:25. > :04:27.stage. In League Two, Paddy Madden's goal

:04:28. > :04:31.was enough to beat Burton and move Scunthorpe United into second. The

:04:32. > :04:34.Iron had not managed a shot on target until Madden's second`half

:04:35. > :04:35.volley, and despite having a penalty saved, they stretched their club

:04:36. > :04:49.record unbeaten run to 22 games. Shire horses from across Europe have

:04:50. > :04:52.been in Grantham this weekend. The Shire Horse Society's National Show

:04:53. > :04:56.is the world's largest gathering of the breed. Spectators have come from

:04:57. > :04:59.as far afield as Australia and the USA for the event which showcases

:05:00. > :05:06.the Society's work protecting the endangered breed. We have got people

:05:07. > :05:09.here from America, Germany, Sweden, France, Austria, Switzerland.

:05:10. > :05:16.England is the home of the shire horse. A lot of people come from

:05:17. > :05:20.overseas where there are quite big shire horse populations because they

:05:21. > :05:24.want to see the best. And this is where the best is, this show.

:05:25. > :05:31.Let's get the weather now, with Kay Crewdson.

:05:32. > :05:34.Hello. Good evening. A fair few showers that will continue but they

:05:35. > :05:40.will fizzle out as we had overnight. All parts dry. The breeze will stay

:05:41. > :05:42.fairly light and we will have predominantly clear skies. A frost

:05:43. > :05:46.forming overnight tonight, temperatures dropping to below

:05:47. > :05:50.freezing. A cold and frosty start tomorrow morning, watch out for ice

:05:51. > :05:53.where we have had showers, but it is going to be a fine start, dry and

:05:54. > :05:56.bright, plenty of sunshine through the day tomorrow. The breeze

:05:57. > :05:57.freshens from the south, temperatures rise to around 10

:05:58. > :05:58.degrees. temperatures rise to

:05:59. > :06:13.Good night. Hello. Following today's showers,

:06:14. > :06:18.tonight is going to be much colder. Clear skies, light winds, a recipe

:06:19. > :06:21.for a widespread frost. Sharp showers for the next couple of

:06:22. > :06:23.hours. From East Yorkshire
