:00:00. > :00:21.Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North. The headlines tonight.

:00:22. > :00:25.Backing for the owners of Htll City. A woman from Lincoln dies trying to

:00:26. > :00:29.save two children swept into the sea in Tenerife.

:00:30. > :00:33.1,000 days to go to City of Culture 2017, but does Hull have thd ability

:00:34. > :00:43.to host big events? Some evdnts the city does not have the venuds for

:00:44. > :00:47.for the moment. And as Russ Wilcox becomes ` global

:00:48. > :00:51.record`breaker, what else h`s the time given the world? Torrential

:00:52. > :00:53.downpours this evening, but what about the rest of this week.

:00:54. > :01:10.Join me later. Good evening. The majority of Hull

:01:11. > :01:18.city season ticket holders who voted in a ballot have supported the

:01:19. > :01:24.change of name to a whole Thgers. But less than half of those eligible

:01:25. > :01:29.actually voted. The club's owners say they will not comment on the

:01:30. > :01:35.decision until after the wedkend's FA Cup semifinal. The footb`ll

:01:36. > :01:41.Association will make its comments on Wednesday. Last August, @ssem

:01:42. > :01:47.Allam announced his named the club.

:01:48. > :01:50.He said it would give the club a stronger brand identity, potentially

:01:51. > :02:01.worth millions of pounds. Btt the move angered some fans, seehng it

:02:02. > :02:10.went against over 100 years of history and tradition. The club

:02:11. > :02:14.balloted the fans. A short time ago, the results were released. The club

:02:15. > :02:17.says the forms went out to 05,0 3 pass`holders. Of those, 5874 took

:02:18. > :02:21.part in the vote. If you thhnk of it like an election, that's a turnout

:02:22. > :02:24.of 39%. This is how the restlt breaks down, counted, the club says,

:02:25. > :02:28.by an independent company. 2565 said yes to Hull Tigers with the Allams

:02:29. > :02:31.in charge. 2517 voted no to the name change. 792 fans replied saxing they

:02:32. > :02:36.were not good concerned and would support the club no matter what

:02:37. > :02:48.That is a 48 vote majority hn favour of changing the name.

:02:49. > :02:52.In an important week for thd club but NFA cup semifinal at Welbley on

:02:53. > :02:56.Sunday, this is not the end of the matter. A full F a council leets on

:02:57. > :03:10.Wednesday and they will votd on whether Hull city can becomd whole

:03:11. > :03:15.Tigers. `` Hull Tigers. Joining me now is Mark Gretton from

:03:16. > :03:22.the City Til We Die campaign group. Good evening. You have seen the

:03:23. > :03:31.results. What is your reacthon? Very hard to know what this tells us

:03:32. > :03:41.When you have a question th`t says yes to whole Tigers with thd Allams

:03:42. > :03:53.in charge, a lot of people wanted to support the Allams. But a lot of

:03:54. > :03:58.people didn't bother to votd. The club did say they would get in touch

:03:59. > :04:04.with all ticket holders. A lot of people who did vote found that there

:04:05. > :04:10.bought in forms were blank, the ballot boxes were shot when they

:04:11. > :04:17.said they were open. I think a lot of people gave up. Is it not time

:04:18. > :04:25.you just fell in line? Most supporters are happy to go with the

:04:26. > :04:31.owners? If this was a gener`l election, we would be having a

:04:32. > :04:37.recount over 48 votes of a difference. It is not a ringing

:04:38. > :04:44.endorsement. But this muddids the water. It makes it worse. I agree.

:04:45. > :04:52.I've no idea why the club dhd this at this time. We asked for this back

:04:53. > :05:13.in November. We could have fired a straightforward ballot. The club

:05:14. > :05:22.have tended. Mac if the F a doodle `` FA do rule against it, would you

:05:23. > :05:30.lose the Allams? I hope not, they have done a lot. Please let us not

:05:31. > :06:00.your thoughts on this one. In a moment. Missing out, the

:06:01. > :06:05.families who feel to benefit from free childcare. It's free, please

:06:06. > :06:09.come forward. A GP from Lincolnshire is one of two

:06:10. > :06:12.women who have drowned whild on holiday in Tenerife. Dr Bar`thi

:06:13. > :06:17.Ravikumar was a partner at the Heath Surgery at Bracebridge Heath near

:06:18. > :06:26.Lincoln. It's thought they were trying to rescue their children

:06:27. > :06:30.who'd been swept away by a wave They bear in Tenerife when the

:06:31. > :06:35.accident happened yesterday. Our correspondent Paul Murphy is live in

:06:36. > :06:42.Bracebridge Heath for us tonight. What else to we know about the

:06:43. > :06:46.circumstances of the accident? Those precise details surrounding the

:06:47. > :06:50.accident are still unclear. We are getting bits and pieces of

:06:51. > :06:58.information from the authorhties in Tenerife. It appears that Dr Barathi

:06:59. > :07:04.Ravikumar was in a family group with a doctor friend and another adult, a

:07:05. > :07:09.woman and two children who got into difficulty in this scene. It is

:07:10. > :07:20.unclear how that happened. There are suggestions the children were washed

:07:21. > :07:23.off rocks. The result was that Dr Barathi Ravikumar and her f`mily

:07:24. > :07:31.friend both drowned. There were three rescues. Local fisherlen went

:07:32. > :07:36.to help. There was a rescue effort by the local authorities and

:07:37. > :07:44.holiday`makers as well. Tributes have been paid to her, what have her

:07:45. > :07:54.colleagues said tonight? Shd had only worked here for three or four

:07:55. > :07:57.years, but made quite an impact People have been shocked by her

:07:58. > :08:00.death. In a statement, the Heath surgery where Dr Ravikumar worked

:08:01. > :08:03.said, "During her short timd with the practice, she was passionate

:08:04. > :08:08.about making a difference to health care in Lincolnshire. Dr Ravikumar

:08:09. > :08:16.will be sorely missed." Friends and neighbours of the doctor

:08:17. > :08:20.have been speaking to us tonight. It's a shame because she was a very

:08:21. > :08:34.nice lady and was admired bx everybody. A tragedy. Massive shock.

:08:35. > :08:43.I was in there a few weeks `go and you sorted me out, sort of blood is

:08:44. > :08:47.out. It's come as a shock. We expect a full details of these

:08:48. > :08:52.tragic incidents to unravel in the next few hours and coming d`ys, but

:08:53. > :09:12.an entire community in shop here. Thank you.

:09:13. > :09:20.Councillors in Norfolk have decided to strap plans for a waste

:09:21. > :09:24.incinerator. A former soldidr from East Yorkshire released on bail from

:09:25. > :09:27.an Indian jail, where he's been held since October, says he hopes to be

:09:28. > :09:31.back in the UK within weeks. Ray Tindall, from Hull, and Nicholas

:09:32. > :09:34.Simpson, who grew up in Cottingham, were among six guards arrested when

:09:35. > :09:37.Indian police detained the ship they were protecting. The authorhties

:09:38. > :09:39.said the boat had arms on board which didn't have the correct

:09:40. > :09:42.paperwork. It's been a nightmare, to bd honest.

:09:43. > :09:46.But, having been in the milhtary, I've got a different mindset to the

:09:47. > :09:50.normal person and I have bedn able to focus on the right sort of things

:09:51. > :09:54.rather than the bad sort of things. Being in jail for 170 days, it will

:09:55. > :09:58.take time is to get used to being out. The lawyer says I should be

:09:59. > :10:08.home hopefully in three to four weeks.

:10:09. > :10:10.It's emerged that families hn Hull aren't benefiting from government

:10:11. > :10:14.money which provides free childcare for two`year`olds. Despite having

:10:15. > :10:17.been on offer in the city for more than seven years, hundreds of

:10:18. > :10:20.parents are missing out. Hull was one of the first places in the

:10:21. > :10:24.country to pilot the scheme. The city council says it has more than

:10:25. > :10:26.350 free nursery places, and has been criticised by Ofsted for not

:10:27. > :10:31.encouraging parents to take advantage of them. Amy Cole reports.

:10:32. > :10:34.It's not all child's play hdre at Little Jumping Beans nurserx, but

:10:35. > :10:37.learning how to interact with other kids as well. And for some parents,

:10:38. > :10:42.the opportunity to send thehr young ones to nursery for 15 hours a week

:10:43. > :10:46.for free is an opportunity too good to miss. She's always singing and

:10:47. > :10:50.talking. She's the first ond of my kids that have gone for the

:10:51. > :10:55.2`year`old funding. The othdrs never did and there's a big difference.

:10:56. > :10:59.I think it's one of the best things we've done, as far as our child is

:11:00. > :11:02.concerned coming to nursery. He can be with his parents, but thdre's

:11:03. > :11:05.nothing like making friends and being with other adults. I think

:11:06. > :11:09.it's the best thing for him, really. He's my first to come to a

:11:10. > :11:14.two`year`old nursery. I've got a little girl, she turns two hn three

:11:15. > :11:18.weeks, so she might be joinhng him. While these parents are makhng the

:11:19. > :11:21.most of the incentive, therd are plenty who aren't. Hull Citx Council

:11:22. > :11:24.has been criticised by Ofstdd for not encouraging more parents from

:11:25. > :11:27.disadvantaged backgrounds to take up the free nursery places. Thd city

:11:28. > :11:29.council says that for the up`coming summer term, it's received 208

:11:30. > :11:32.successful applications for two`year`old funding. It currently

:11:33. > :11:35.has around 370 vacancies across the city. And, following a list provided

:11:36. > :11:39.by the Department for Work `nd Pensions, the council has written to

:11:40. > :11:47.406 families who may be eligible but are still yet to apply.

:11:48. > :11:51.It's getting children into ` proper playing environment where they can

:11:52. > :11:55.learn a whole mass of skills. If a child is on their own at hole, they

:11:56. > :11:58.simply won't have a chance to do that and it's a terrible sh`me. And

:11:59. > :12:06.we're offering these places free, please come forward.

:12:07. > :12:09.The problem is that some parents aren't even aware of the benefit,

:12:10. > :12:12.like this woman. She has just started bringing her daughtdr to

:12:13. > :12:15.nursery and is now wondering whether she would qualify. I didn't actually

:12:16. > :12:20.know that 2`year`old funding existed. That's why I've not looked

:12:21. > :12:27.into it at all. I'm wondering whether we would have been dntitled

:12:28. > :12:29.to it. I don't know anything about it so I will have to go and

:12:30. > :12:32.research. Parenting organisations say they

:12:33. > :12:35.welcome free places for 2`ydar`olds and would like to see more childcare

:12:36. > :12:51.support. Hull City Council hs urging parents to get in touch.

:12:52. > :12:54.You might also have a view on this story and the free nursery places,

:12:55. > :12:56.maybe you're a parent, do you think two is too young to send chhldren to

:12:57. > :13:11.nursery? 1000 days until whole becomds city

:13:12. > :13:23.of culture 2017, but will bd city be ready? And as Russ Wilcox breaks

:13:24. > :13:27.another record, how else has a town impressed the world?

:13:28. > :13:43.Keep your pictures coming in. Let's get the forecast now.

:13:44. > :13:49.It's very lively out there. We got thunder storm and downpours. But the

:13:50. > :13:52.good news is to date will bd the most unsettled day of the wdek

:13:53. > :13:58.because tomorrow looks fine with some sunshine. Thresher will remain

:13:59. > :14:10.high throughout the week and probably into next weekend. That

:14:11. > :14:15.means many part will... This has given some very heavy rainf`ll in

:14:16. > :14:21.places. Very quickly moving off into the North Sea. Overnight, a fresher

:14:22. > :14:25.feel. The westerly wind will bring fresh air with a scattering of

:14:26. > :14:33.showers. By the end of the night, those showers should be out of the

:14:34. > :14:45.way. Cooler than of late. The sun will rise at about 20 past six. One

:14:46. > :14:50.or two showers are possible in the morning, otherwise it is brhght and

:14:51. > :14:53.breezy with variable amounts of cloud and sunny spells. A fdw

:14:54. > :14:59.showers trying to get into Lincolnshire. But most of us will

:15:00. > :15:09.enjoy a fine, right and bredzy day. Temperatures a few degrees down on

:15:10. > :15:14.today with highs of 11 Celshus. Further ahead, Wednesday looks a

:15:15. > :15:17.fine, dry day with some sunshine. Thursday mostly fine with a few

:15:18. > :15:26.spots of rain on Thursday nhght Friday and next weekend look dry.

:15:27. > :15:49.The man who ran Delhi` Londonderry city of culture see Hull has an

:15:50. > :15:58.advantage. `` Derry/Londonddrry We have been looking at how thd city

:15:59. > :16:01.has been getting ready for 2017 City of Culture status brought more

:16:02. > :16:03.than a million visitors and an estimated ?25 million to

:16:04. > :16:07.Derry/Londonderry. Plans ard being made so it can do the same for Hull.

:16:08. > :16:11.Just four months since Hull was named City of Culture, almost half

:16:12. > :16:14.of the ?18 million needed h`s been promised to the city. And that's

:16:15. > :16:17.before they even begin speaking to private sponsors. Fundraising is

:16:18. > :16:21.going really well. It's early days, we have three years to put together

:16:22. > :16:24.the budget. But now that Hull has won, we see ?7 million of ilmediate

:16:25. > :16:29.coverage and sponsors beating a path to our door. This has reallx hit the

:16:30. > :16:33.national psyche. Plans for the BAFTAs or the Brits to

:16:34. > :16:36.come here have been ruled ott because of Hull's lack of c`pacity.

:16:37. > :16:38.But it's hoped Hull could follow Derry/Londonderry's lead and host

:16:39. > :16:41.Radio One's Big Weekend mushc festival and the country's

:16:42. > :16:45.best`known art competition, the Turner Prize. They want to `ttract

:16:46. > :16:49.show stopping displays like this one in Sydney by Brian Eno. But before

:16:50. > :16:54.they book artists, the team are making sure they have the

:16:55. > :17:01.infrastructure to deliver 2017. It is a marathon. It's not ` sprint.

:17:02. > :17:04.It's really important that we get all those discussions and those

:17:05. > :17:08.dialogues right now so that we can plan for what is going to bd an

:17:09. > :17:10.amazing year for the city. @nd also that we create legacy. That is

:17:11. > :17:13.critical. So what else is in the pipeline By

:17:14. > :17:16.summer, a chairperson and an artistic director will be appointed

:17:17. > :17:22.and making decisions about what the city will host. Plans are bding

:17:23. > :17:25.drawn up to make it easier to move between Hull's cultural highlights

:17:26. > :17:28.and create artistic gateways to the city. And next year, an offhcial

:17:29. > :17:31.campaign begins to recruit 4,00 volunteers, similar to the

:17:32. > :17:37.gamesmakers that helped makd London's Olympics a success. And on

:17:38. > :17:40.June the 28th, there'll be ` big public party to thank peopld in Hull

:17:41. > :18:00.for the part they played in winning the bid.

:18:01. > :18:08.Elia, I spoke to the director of Derry/Londonderry. Its liturgy where

:18:09. > :18:15.it should be `` is the city would it should be? Yes, work

:18:16. > :18:22.behind`the`scenes has been going on. The team will be making things

:18:23. > :18:29.prepared for releases about the programme. Do people realisd how big

:18:30. > :18:37.this could be? There are cynics everywhere you go in the world. The

:18:38. > :18:40.situation turned around when people began to see the programme `nd the

:18:41. > :18:55.opportunities and the busindss opportunities. That happened made

:18:56. > :19:01.each year `` mid`year. It c`me with recognition in the lonely planet

:19:02. > :19:04.guide. You think it is a little things that matter and you worked

:19:05. > :19:09.with the taxi drivers. What should they do here? They need to consider

:19:10. > :19:18.what the business is for thdm going forward. A great taxi experhence is

:19:19. > :19:24.likely to sell the city. If their appearance being polite? To be

:19:25. > :19:27.knowledgeable and proud of the city because everybody in this chty,

:19:28. > :19:33.250,000 people, are ambassadors for this city going forward. Visitors

:19:34. > :19:41.will come from around the world Why should ordinarily peopld, who

:19:42. > :19:46.might not have a job, why should they be excited about this? They

:19:47. > :19:53.should be proud about their city. This city has one and not m`ny other

:19:54. > :19:57.people have done. The probldm going forward is people may not sde the

:19:58. > :20:02.opportunity at this moment hn time. If you have not got a job, perhaps

:20:03. > :20:12.you will get a job out of chty of culture. Did it bring jobs to

:20:13. > :20:19.Derry? Yes, it did. But it can't be about one year, it has to bd a

:20:20. > :20:33.sustained effort. Thank you. Thanks to everybody who got in touch

:20:34. > :20:42.about a shortage of prescription drugs.

:20:43. > :20:48.Roy in Cleethorpes messaged me to say... I had at heart transplant 15

:20:49. > :20:53.years ago and one of the drtgs I am on is proving difficult to get hold

:20:54. > :20:57.of. I have to order it two weeks before I needed and the pharmacy as

:20:58. > :21:02.to ring the supplier to get hold of it because it is not being stalked.

:21:03. > :21:09.It is adding stress to a difficult situation.

:21:10. > :21:50.Plenty of other similar expdriences as well.

:21:51. > :21:55.One of Hull City's longest serving players, Andy Davidson, has died. He

:21:56. > :21:58.played 579 times for The Tigers during the '50s and '60s before

:21:59. > :22:02.joining the coaching staff during a career at the club lasting 33 years.

:22:03. > :22:08.There will be a minute's silence in his memory ahead of City's home game

:22:09. > :22:19.against Arsenal later this lonth. On the pitch, the Tigers have

:22:20. > :22:25.virtually secured their place in the Premier League for another xear

:22:26. > :22:34.They are now nine points cldar of the relegation zone. I just can t

:22:35. > :22:42.see that the teams below us will get enough. We are hopeful to kdep going

:22:43. > :22:44.to the end. Hull Kingston Rovers went out of the Challenge Ctp at the

:22:45. > :22:47.fourth round stage yesterdax. The Robins led at half time, but

:22:48. > :22:51.Warrington proved to strong for them and ran out 28 to 24 winners. Both

:22:52. > :22:53.Hull clubs are now out of the competition.

:22:54. > :22:57.And plenty from this weekend's rugby league will be on the Super League

:22:58. > :23:08.Show. That's on BBC One this evening, just before midnight.

:23:09. > :23:20.This weekend, this man becale a world record`holder. Russ Whlcox,

:23:21. > :23:31.his Scunthorpe side has rem`ined unbeaten for 25 games.

:23:32. > :23:35.Scunthorpe, a town of grittx steel like and steel`making deterlination.

:23:36. > :23:38.A town that gave birth to ldgendary actresses like Joan Plowright and

:23:39. > :23:49.the most successful British golfer of his generation Tony Jacklin. It

:23:50. > :23:54.all started here. With a golf ball in front of me and just wanting to

:23:55. > :23:57.be as good at golf as I could possibly be. And now the world's

:23:58. > :24:01.spotlight is shining on Scunthorpe again.

:24:02. > :24:07.We're talking about this man, manager Russ Wilcox. On Sattrday, he

:24:08. > :24:12.did it again. After an away win against Torquay. Now 25 unbdaten

:24:13. > :24:21.games in a row, extending hhs new world record. That's the kexword,

:24:22. > :24:29.momentum. Having a great st`rt breeds confidence, belief,

:24:30. > :24:33.togetherness. They won from this penalty. It was a bit cheekx, but

:24:34. > :24:36.went past the keeper into the back of the net. Torquay had thehr own

:24:37. > :24:42.chance, but couldn't get back Sam Slocombe. An historic run continues.

:24:43. > :24:49.We've never known them win `s many as they have this year. Thex've done

:24:50. > :24:54.really well. Usually they start well and go down. Any club that can make

:24:55. > :24:58.a record, no matter what it is, it's got to be good for the town. The

:24:59. > :25:04.fact that Scunthorpe are dohng well has lifted the town. Look at those

:25:05. > :25:10.two. It's lifted the spirits. This is a town well prepared to keep

:25:11. > :25:19.enjoying the moment. That's fantastic. Let's havd a recap

:25:20. > :25:23.of the main national and regional headlines.
