:00:00. > :00:15.UKIP's new councillor's celebrate as they take seats across Hull

:00:16. > :00:32.I'm live in Grimsby where UKIP have taken seven out of 15 seats.

:00:33. > :00:40.Today's result is a fantastic accumulation of tenures of work.

:00:41. > :00:59.The teenage boy who took his own life because he was bullied online.

:01:00. > :01:01.The 4`star Hotel Break for college students.

:01:02. > :01:04.You get to go there with all of your friends.

:01:05. > :01:09.Flash floods, thunder and lightning. Today, the clearer about torrential

:01:10. > :01:13.rain. And the team hoping to travel more than 400 mph to set a new world

:01:14. > :01:16.record. And a soggy start to the bank

:01:17. > :01:20.holiday weekend, but it should gradually improved. I will be back

:01:21. > :01:27.later in the programme with all the details.

:01:28. > :01:30.UKIP is celebrating big successes in the local elections

:01:31. > :01:35.after winning eight seats locally in yesterday's polls.

:01:36. > :01:38.In Hull they won one seat, beating one of Labour's most long

:01:39. > :01:45.But their biggest gains have come in North East Lincolnshire where

:01:46. > :01:51.Labour remain in overall control in Hull and Lincoln,

:01:52. > :01:55.but they've now lost control of North East Lincolnshire.

:01:56. > :01:57.Our Political Editor, Tim Iredale, is in Grimsby tonight.

:01:58. > :02:05.How much of a surprise is this showing by UKIP?

:02:06. > :02:11.Well, I have been out on the campaign trail across Lincolnshire

:02:12. > :02:15.and east Yorkshire in the past few weeks and it has been cleared,

:02:16. > :02:20.speaking to voters, that they wanted to give the established parties are

:02:21. > :02:25.good kicking. There will be some who say UKIP still do not have any

:02:26. > :02:31.direct power in our every outcome any other words the door not

:02:32. > :02:34.actually run `` in our area, in other words they do not actually run

:02:35. > :02:37.any of our councils, but they certainly have their opponents

:02:38. > :02:42.running scared. Meet the new kids on the block.

:02:43. > :02:45.UKIP's success has seen the party secure a solid power base in North

:02:46. > :02:50.East Lincolnshire. I think today's result is a fantastically with ``

:02:51. > :02:55.fantastic attenuation of ten years of work.

:02:56. > :03:00.The fruitcakes have come home! The result sees Labour dropped to 21

:03:01. > :03:05.seats on North East Lincolnshire Council. The Conservatives are down

:03:06. > :03:10.to ten seats, with UKIP now boasting eight councillors on the authority.

:03:11. > :03:14.The Liberal Democrats have three. UKIP I think will be a temporary

:03:15. > :03:19.phenomenon that will split and the divide on the council, and possibly

:03:20. > :03:23.even in Europe. The interesting thing about this election is the

:03:24. > :03:28.fact that the electorate has said to both main parties, a plague on both

:03:29. > :03:32.your houses. For people like me, who have long

:03:33. > :03:36.been Eurosceptics even before the word was invented, it confirms our

:03:37. > :03:41.view that people are very disconnected from the whole process,

:03:42. > :03:45.particularly the fact that Europe is seen as a distant organisation going

:03:46. > :03:50.against what the British people, and in some cases the British

:03:51. > :03:55.government, want. Last night saw Labour retain control

:03:56. > :04:00.of Hull City Council. UKIP's share of the vote was more than 25% of the

:04:01. > :04:04.vote, but that only resulted in them winning a one seat from the veteran

:04:05. > :04:07.Labour councillor David Gemmill, who had served on the authority for 26

:04:08. > :04:11.years. What do you make to the swing ``

:04:12. > :04:19.make of the swing towards UKIP version macro `` towards UKIP?

:04:20. > :04:24.There is certainly a swing across the country and all edition should

:04:25. > :04:29.take note. It tells you, it is a symptom of something that the public

:04:30. > :04:33.are not happy with. Labour also kept control of the city

:04:34. > :04:38.of Lincoln Council after gaining two Micro seats from the Conservatives.

:04:39. > :04:41.So, a mixture of celebration and commiseration after the local

:04:42. > :04:47.elections. For some, the excitement was all too much.

:04:48. > :04:50.Tim, do these results tell us anything about what we might expect

:04:51. > :04:57.on Sunday when we find out the results of the European elections?

:04:58. > :05:01.Yes, I managed to get some sleep first, like that last bloke, but it

:05:02. > :05:06.does seem a given now that UKIP will do well in the European elections.

:05:07. > :05:11.The votes are counted on Sunday night. There is one crumb of comfort

:05:12. > :05:16.this evening to UKIP's opponents, and that is that only one third of

:05:17. > :05:22.voters turned out in yesterday's elections. That is around half of

:05:23. > :05:26.that which would normally turn out in a general election. Some will say

:05:27. > :05:29.that voters have not necessarily switched allegiances, they just have

:05:30. > :05:33.not bothered to turn out to vote at all.

:05:34. > :05:42.Earlier this afternoon I spoke to Victoria Ayling, I UKIP `` single

:05:43. > :05:45.Michael UKIP councillor, and I asked why they had done so well in North

:05:46. > :05:51.East Lincolnshire. I think it is because everyone in the country, not

:05:52. > :05:54.just in Grimsby, are sick to the teeth of the three main parties

:05:55. > :06:00.selling them down the river. We are fed up with the lies, the

:06:01. > :06:03.same old spin, and the UKIP have common`sense policies and people who

:06:04. > :06:08.want to make a difference to bring this country forward again.

:06:09. > :06:12.I assume you will agree that a lot of these people who voted UKIP did

:06:13. > :06:16.it just to send a message. What percentage of these people will vote

:06:17. > :06:21.UKIP at the next election? No, it is not just a message. They

:06:22. > :06:25.realise we are forced to be reckoned with to turn this country around and

:06:26. > :06:31.get our country back for our people. This is not a flash in pan.

:06:32. > :06:34.We are a year away from the general election, number crunching has been

:06:35. > :06:39.done today, they reckon that Nigel Farage is right when he says that

:06:40. > :06:44.Grimsby is winnable as I UKIP seat one year from now and you will be

:06:45. > :06:48.the candidate. There has been no selection so I

:06:49. > :06:51.cannot comment. In North East Lincolnshire UKIP got 36% of the

:06:52. > :06:55.vote today. If it is you, and it is assumed it

:06:56. > :06:58.will become is it awkward? Four years ago you were wondering

:06:59. > :07:02.around the streets as a conservative.

:07:03. > :07:07.Is that not confusing for people? As I say, there has been no

:07:08. > :07:10.selection so I cannot comment on who the candidate is. All I can say is I

:07:11. > :07:16.am interested and that is it. Grimsby has gone well, and you have

:07:17. > :07:20.taken votes away from Labour. What do you think the average UKIP

:07:21. > :07:24.supporter stands for, and what do they want? We know what David

:07:25. > :07:30.Cameron thinks, closet racists and fruitcakes. What does the average

:07:31. > :07:34.person think and want? The average person wants a change

:07:35. > :07:37.with the party that will change things in this country for the

:07:38. > :07:43.better run to stop the downward spiral into the European Union and

:07:44. > :07:48.into the clutches of professional politicians, who have let us all

:07:49. > :07:52.down so much for years, whichever party it is. But David Cameron has

:07:53. > :07:58.promised a referendum on Europe. He has given a cast iron guarantee.

:07:59. > :08:04.UKIP's work is done, we do not need them any more, do we?

:08:05. > :08:08.No, David Cameron is not to be trusted. He reneged on the Lisbon

:08:09. > :08:12.Treaty referendum, that did not happen. But that was different, he

:08:13. > :08:17.has given a cast iron guarantee this time.

:08:18. > :08:21.I cast I guarantee from David Cameron or any of the main parties,

:08:22. > :08:26.voters realise it is not worth the paper is written on. There is only

:08:27. > :08:30.one way to get us out of Europe and to get our country back on its

:08:31. > :08:34.feet, and that is to vote UKIP. Anything else is a wasted vote for

:08:35. > :08:38.the same old system sucking us further into Europe. Cameron will

:08:39. > :08:42.not deliver, and even if we had a referendum it would be a fudge,

:08:43. > :08:47.because he has said he will campaign for a yes vote. Who can trust a man

:08:48. > :08:53.like that? Fast forward one year.

:08:54. > :09:00.Will you be, Victoria Ayling, UKIP MP? Or will it be eyed UKIP MP,

:09:01. > :09:05.someone else if not you, in Grimsby? There will be a UKIP MP in Grimsby,

:09:06. > :09:09.I believe that. Whether it is me or someone else, purely because the

:09:10. > :09:13.people of Grimsby and Cleethorpes have woken up, along with many in

:09:14. > :09:19.this country, that they can have a difference, they can get our country

:09:20. > :09:23.back and have a party that puts them first. This has proved it. Last year

:09:24. > :09:26.it proved it with council elections then. This is not a flash in the

:09:27. > :09:32.pan. Thank you for your time.

:09:33. > :09:36.There we are, an important day, seats for UKIP in Grimsby today, and

:09:37. > :09:39.we would be keen to get your thoughts on this one.

:09:40. > :09:43.Are you surprised that the results? Why has UKIP done so well?

:09:44. > :09:47.Please e`mail us at the address below.

:09:48. > :09:53.Give us your views on what you have heard from the local elections. As I

:09:54. > :09:55.say, UKIP has done well in north`eastern indenture and also

:09:56. > :09:58.Hull. Austin Mitchell there saying that UKIP are temporary phenomenon,

:09:59. > :10:07.do you agree with that? Thank you for watching this Friday

:10:08. > :10:10.night come in a moment of... Bringing the salmon back to East

:10:11. > :10:18.Yorks's rivers by leaving the lock gates open.

:10:19. > :10:20.A coroner has ruled a 17`year`old boy from Lincolnshire killed

:10:21. > :10:32.themselves after receiving file and threats on Facebook. Callum

:10:33. > :10:35.Moody`Chapman was found dead last regatta going missing from his aunt

:10:36. > :10:38.'s home. In yours before he went missing he had read messages from a

:10:39. > :10:45.boy on Facebook saying he would be stabbed and beaten.

:10:46. > :10:48.Callum Moody`Chapman was described as a happy`go`lucky boy who put his

:10:49. > :10:53.family and others before himself. You would never meet another boy

:10:54. > :10:57.like him. If he got into trouble at school, he would not be in trouble

:10:58. > :11:03.for long because he knew how to work his charm. You know, he was...

:11:04. > :11:07.Unbelievable. But, one weekend last December, his life was turned upside

:11:08. > :11:11.down when he read threats to stab and beat him on Facebook.

:11:12. > :11:16.He was so troubled by it, a coroner decided, he killed himself. After

:11:17. > :11:20.today's hearing, his mum and dad said cyber bullying had taken their

:11:21. > :11:25.son's life. I would say to parents, I know you

:11:26. > :11:29.do not like to be nosy and look into your child's personal accounts or

:11:30. > :11:35.whatever. But you have to look out for the signs. The cyber bullying

:11:36. > :11:39.that is going on at the moment, it is rife, it really is. There are

:11:40. > :11:43.people out there that do it. They use Facebook as a weapon, not for

:11:44. > :11:51.what it should be used, for friends and genuine chat.

:11:52. > :11:55.The evidence's Callum `` the evidence Callum's family heard had

:11:56. > :11:58.been harrowing. On the night he died, he came here to the harbour,

:11:59. > :12:01.crying and sobbing he made two phone calls.

:12:02. > :12:05.One was to his older brother, Robert, saying he had messed up his

:12:06. > :12:09.life and he was sorry, and asked him to say goodbye to his niece. The

:12:10. > :12:15.second was to his father, Kevin, saying, simply, dad, I love you.

:12:16. > :12:20.117`year`old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons earlier this year

:12:21. > :12:25.pleaded guilty to charges of assault and fences under the malicious

:12:26. > :12:29.Communications act. A man has been charged with murder

:12:30. > :12:36.following a shooting at Melton in East Yorks on Tuesday night.

:12:37. > :12:42.30 age old Jonathan Smith from gunshot widths. 54`year`old Peter

:12:43. > :12:45.Guy from Milton will appear before magistrates tomorrow morning charged

:12:46. > :12:47.with his murder. A 15`year`old boy has been charged with assault and a

:12:48. > :12:50.third man released on police bail. A Hull academy is rewarding GCSE

:12:51. > :12:53.students who attend extra revision classes with trips to

:12:54. > :12:56.a 4 star hotel for a weekend Sirius Academy, which is rated

:12:57. > :13:02.as outstanding takes around 80 Academies are independently run

:13:03. > :13:12.and have more control over budgets. But anti`academy campaigners have

:13:13. > :13:28.described these weekends away It is a stressful time of year for

:13:29. > :13:33.thousands of teenagers, and like many schools at Sirius Academy in

:13:34. > :13:36.Hull they put on extra revision sessions. Your legal even further,

:13:37. > :13:40.rewarding some of those attending these classes with a stay at a hotel

:13:41. > :13:46.for a weekend of learning. Although the intense work we have

:13:47. > :13:52.done in the exam I just threw it. You get stressed and tired, to go

:13:53. > :13:55.and sit with your friends. You could do this at home with your friends,

:13:56. > :13:58.could you not ration might know, at home I would not have the

:13:59. > :14:02.motivation. The academy runs two of these

:14:03. > :14:08.residential ploys of `` residential is every year to around 40 pupils.

:14:09. > :14:14.Since 2009 they have used hotels in Hull, Scarborough, York and North

:14:15. > :14:19.Lincolnshire. Peace `` these days are a reward for

:14:20. > :14:28.good attendance and hard work, things like queue jump passes or

:14:29. > :14:32.special weekends away. Some people would say picking kids up in a hotel

:14:33. > :14:37.is a waste of public money. I disagree, because we have had a

:14:38. > :14:41.huge impact in terms of performance with our children being able to be

:14:42. > :14:46.given that last`minute revision with the support of a qualified member of

:14:47. > :14:56.staff. In 2009, 20 9% of pupils achieved

:14:57. > :15:02.five a star to C grades. At figure has risen to 25% `` 65%.

:15:03. > :15:05.Some argue it is an unnecessary expense.

:15:06. > :15:09.It sounds like a bribe. We now have these elite schools with extra

:15:10. > :15:15.finance and extra cash, and that is great for them but it does nothing

:15:16. > :15:22.for an equitable system. Opening at weekends for revision and

:15:23. > :15:28.these trips away costs around ?5,000 per year, and those here say it has

:15:29. > :15:32.helped boost grades. Another one you may wish to comment

:15:33. > :15:36.on, if you do, let me know, here are the contact details...

:15:37. > :15:42.The school says it is a good way to boost grades, do you agree?

:15:43. > :15:47.I look forward to hearing from you, as always.

:15:48. > :15:51.It is exactly 6:45pm, Friday night on BBC One. Still ahead... Hoping to

:15:52. > :15:57.set a new record for the fastest motor cycle in the world.

:15:58. > :16:01.It will be the first 400 mph record on two wheels, it has never been

:16:02. > :16:03.done before. As Britain has not held the record since 1937, that is far

:16:04. > :16:12.too long, we need that record back. If you have a picture you are proud

:16:13. > :16:18.of, please send it in and we will show it next week.

:16:19. > :16:19.Tonight's was taken by Mike Woodcock of wooden in North Lincolnshire.

:16:20. > :16:29.Like you for that. I am pleased to say you have put

:16:30. > :16:34.Sunita Darren. I thought you preferred blondes!

:16:35. > :16:40.That is what we always said. She is more polite and less cheeky

:16:41. > :16:44.than you come anyway. Some very unsettled weather to come

:16:45. > :16:47.through tomorrow, but an improvement through the bank holiday weekend. A

:16:48. > :16:52.lot of uncertainty about Monday still but it does look like the

:16:53. > :16:57.warmest and brightest day. Tomorrow will be thundery with

:16:58. > :17:00.showers from the south. This is courtesy of this area of low

:17:01. > :17:06.pressure, very unsettled weather tomorrow. It has been quite pleasant

:17:07. > :17:10.today, but some showers just creeping into part of North East

:17:11. > :17:13.Lincolnshire and some thunder. There is a risk anywhere of some showers

:17:14. > :17:19.into this evening, diminishing across the evening. A dry night with

:17:20. > :17:23.clear spells at first, more cloud later. It will not be called,

:17:24. > :17:30.temperatures down around ten or 11 Celsius. `` it will not be cold. The

:17:31. > :17:36.sun will rise in the morning at 4:47am setting at 9:10pm tomorrow

:17:37. > :17:41.evening. We start the day with a lot of cloud

:17:42. > :17:44.and we will start to see showery outbreaks of rain spreading into

:17:45. > :17:48.Lincolnshire. They will be heavy and persistent in

:17:49. > :17:50.places, perhaps again rumble of thunder, tending to ease later in

:17:51. > :17:55.the day. We could get quite wet spells at

:17:56. > :17:59.times, very large puddles again, and local surface water flooding as

:18:00. > :18:04.possible. Temperatures getting up to around 15 or 16 Celsius, cooler than

:18:05. > :18:11.today in Hull where we got around 20. On Sunday, starting on a damp

:18:12. > :18:15.zero but we should see an improvement, saw a dry day to come

:18:16. > :18:19.on Sunday. Some uncertainty about the forecast on Monday, some heavy

:18:20. > :18:23.showers for Lincolnshire but generally dry and bright with some

:18:24. > :18:28.sunshine and feeling warm. You have changed, I used to look forward to

:18:29. > :18:30.Fridays, now I look forward to Monday to Thursday.

:18:31. > :18:33.There is a special treat for you because I am on Monday to Friday

:18:34. > :18:37.next week, Peter. Don't tell me he has gone on holiday

:18:38. > :18:41.again! No, he has gone for more weather

:18:42. > :18:47.training, actually. It is a bit late for that!

:18:48. > :18:49.See you later. Homeowners is `` homeowners and

:18:50. > :18:52.business owners in parts of linkage today have been clearing up after

:18:53. > :18:58.flash flooding. Emergency services received more than 30 calls about

:18:59. > :19:02.damage caused by flooding and lightning.

:19:03. > :19:07.Some had a lucky escape. Wednesfield community School in

:19:08. > :19:14.keeping Saint James, deep in water. Here, headteachers and staff trying

:19:15. > :19:18.to clear corridors after a monsoon like a storm. It was like bucket

:19:19. > :19:21.after bucketload of water was pouring through the ceiling.

:19:22. > :19:26.Having walked in, I was horrified to see such a depth of water in the

:19:27. > :19:33.school, fast spreading. It took less than one hour for heavy

:19:34. > :19:37.rain to overwhelm roads here. Emergency services to 34 columns of

:19:38. > :19:43.flooding, 25 incidents attended. The road in which my partner lives

:19:44. > :19:47.was flooded to about a foot deep for maybe a quarter of a mile. We

:19:48. > :19:51.gritted our teeth and get the engine running and got home.

:19:52. > :19:54.The building behind me had its roof completely destroyed by a lightning

:19:55. > :19:58.strike in what people have described to me as one heck of a storm.

:19:59. > :20:05.We have been your 25 years and I have never known anything like it.

:20:06. > :20:09.The house was actually shaking. My son said a lightning bolt hit the

:20:10. > :20:14.aerial and there was a flash of yellow light, then the tiles on the

:20:15. > :20:18.roof lifted and fell back down. Some of them fell off and some were still

:20:19. > :20:21.hanging. One tenant missed the boat by

:20:22. > :20:26.minutes. Another was still in the building but was unhurt.

:20:27. > :20:30.This is my bedroom here, that window there, all of the ceiling is all

:20:31. > :20:36.collapsed over my bed. If I was lying in my bed, that would have all

:20:37. > :20:39.come down on top of me. There was a massive hole just in the ceiling. It

:20:40. > :20:46.is just huge, there is nothing left of it. I mean... Everything is gone.

:20:47. > :20:53.Every single light socket, plug socket, lamp, everything has just

:20:54. > :20:57.blown off the walls. A flash storm that made its impact

:20:58. > :21:02.in minutes will take months to put right.

:21:03. > :21:07.Let us hope that salmon could return to the rivers of East Yorkshire.

:21:08. > :21:11.The Barmby Barrage near Goole is being opened to allow the fish

:21:12. > :21:16.And as our Rural Affairs Correspondent Paul Murphy reports,
