:02:53. > :02:55.The Lincoln Red Cattle Society says it has seen numbers

:02:56. > :02:58.massively increase in recent years, as people discover how cheap

:03:03. > :03:05.Alan has been breeding Lincoln red cattle for 11 years.

:03:06. > :03:09.It is the traditional breed which is seeing an increase in popularity.

:03:10. > :03:15.These big Continental breeds, they are expensive to run.

:03:16. > :03:18.The native breeds are durable, they will produce 10 or more calfs in

:03:19. > :03:23.a lifetime and you can feed them on grass all summer and silage and hay

:03:24. > :03:29.They need a little more than that really.

:03:30. > :03:31.They are also hardier and more durable so they will

:03:32. > :03:36.10 years ago, the Lincoln Red Cattle Society had 45

:03:37. > :03:43.Last year, the society had 240 members and there were 4000 animals.

:03:44. > :03:47.Some say that could partly be because people are more keen to buy

:03:48. > :03:51.local meat after tests last year found horse in a number of products

:03:52. > :03:59.We saw a great resurgence of people going much more local

:04:00. > :04:02.for their food and perhaps shunning more processed and frozen foods

:04:03. > :04:07.We have seen the resurgence of the Hereford Breed for example

:04:08. > :04:10.and Aberdeen Angus, which are ubiquitous in our supermarkets.

:04:11. > :04:14.What we need to see more of is named breeds so that people actually know

:04:15. > :04:17.they are buying Lincoln red, or Aberdeen Angus or Hereford.

:04:18. > :04:22.In Lincoln, some say they agree and care where their beef comes from.

:04:23. > :04:27.I don't buy beef very often, but I am very interested in what animal it

:04:28. > :04:31.Yes, it does bother me where it comes from.

:04:32. > :04:39.I like to know where it has been reared and butchered.

:04:40. > :04:41.The Lincoln Red Cattle Society say the breed has

:04:42. > :04:45.a strong history locally and this renewed interest could mean

:04:46. > :04:55.In Rugby League, it was a bad afternoon for Hull Kingston Rovers
