:00:00. > :00:07.Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North.

:00:08. > :00:10.The headlines tonight: Blinded in an attack last ydar `

:00:11. > :00:18.the religious leader still waiting for justice.

:00:19. > :00:23.The pain still remains. I still have the pain in my head,

:00:24. > :00:33.even today. The region's biggest event `

:00:34. > :00:35.the RAF Waddington airshow has been cancelled next year due to runway

:00:36. > :00:37.repairs. Inevitably, it was always going to

:00:38. > :00:40.affect next year?s airshow, but the decision has just bden taken

:00:41. > :00:43.that in 2015, there won?t bd an airshow at RAF Waddington.

:00:44. > :00:45.The news comes as organisers prepare

:00:46. > :00:47.for this year's show which has already seen record ticket sales.

:00:48. > :00:48.The MP?s claims that anti fracking protestors are wasting police

:00:49. > :00:51.resources. Warnings of rail delays and

:00:52. > :00:54.disruption as the Selby swing bridge is to close for six weeks.

:00:55. > :01:08.And the school science projdct sending pictures back from space.

:01:09. > :01:21.Join me later for the forec`st. He was partially blinded

:01:22. > :01:25.in what he says was a racist attack Seven months ago,

:01:26. > :01:36.the religious leader in charge of Hull's main mosque was ptnched

:01:37. > :01:40.in the face by a gang who stopped Now his family has criticisdd police

:01:41. > :01:45.for being slow to investigate. Officers have denied that

:01:46. > :01:48.and have started a new appe`l Leading prayers at

:01:49. > :02:07.Hull Central Mosque. Hafiz Rahmat Aziz Salik before his

:02:08. > :02:09.third operation. Doctors say the attack

:02:10. > :02:12.on the 61`year`old has left him I can see the only tiny light of the

:02:13. > :02:16.sunlight, or the electric lhght It sliced his eyeball compldtely

:02:17. > :02:20.in half and broke the nose bone

:02:21. > :02:23.in his nose and also fractured The shocking nature of the `ttack,

:02:24. > :02:28.not only affected the Imam `nd There was a lot

:02:29. > :02:31.of anger within the community We don't look

:02:32. > :02:37.for revenge or anything likd that, The Imam was driving here along

:02:38. > :02:42.Spring Bank West at around 0030 at night on Saturday 30th

:02:43. > :02:44.of November. Two men and a woman then stopped

:02:45. > :02:46.the Iman's car, one of the men approached hhm

:02:47. > :02:50.and punched him in the eye. These are

:02:51. > :02:51.the only pictures police have of Two men and a woman walking

:02:52. > :02:58.along Princes Avenue, Police do not believe what

:02:59. > :03:04.happened was racially motiv`ted At the mosque, that is something the

:03:05. > :03:08.Iman and his family disagred with. They also believe police took too

:03:09. > :03:14.long to get hold of the CCTV footage and to take a statelent

:03:15. > :03:20.from the Imam. I don't think there was

:03:21. > :03:23.a realisation of the gravit`s of the situation as to what impact

:03:24. > :03:26.it would have on the communhty. The contact from the local LP,

:03:27. > :03:29.he spoke to the head of the police and the counchllors

:03:30. > :03:32.got in touch and the communhty members got in touch and I think

:03:33. > :03:35.that kind of speeded things up. Humberside Police say they `re still

:03:36. > :03:38.hopeful of making a breakthrough in the case and do not

:03:39. > :03:40.accept the families criticisms. At the time the attack

:03:41. > :03:45.took place we did take that very seriously, as we do all casds of

:03:46. > :03:48.violent crimes, such as this one. I would say this was a cowardly

:03:49. > :03:51.and unprovoked attack I would ask any persons who have

:03:52. > :03:55.information, in respect Officers have since visited the

:03:56. > :04:04.mosque to reassure the commtnity It's hoped this fresh appeal will

:04:05. > :04:14.finally lead to answers and justice. 60 years on ` the film comp`ny with

:04:15. > :04:28.an international reputation which It attracts 150,000 people, brings

:04:29. > :04:42.in ?12 million to the Lincolnshire economy every year and has raised

:04:43. > :04:45.millions of pounds for charhty. But today organisers

:04:46. > :04:47.of the Waddington Airshow s`y next year?s event has been cancelled

:04:48. > :04:50.and there are no guarantees that it Tonight,

:04:51. > :05:26.the base is preparing to welcome Many of the aircraft on display this

:05:27. > :05:31.weekend have to land on the runway. It is getting old and needs to be

:05:32. > :05:34.rebuilt. That work will not be completed until autumn next year.

:05:35. > :05:35.That is why organisers have announced there will be no show here

:05:36. > :05:42.next year. This year will be the 20th show and

:05:43. > :05:45.record numbers of people ard expected to attend. They'll get to

:05:46. > :05:47.see displays like the Royal Jordanian Falklands. Today

:05:48. > :05:53.organisers have confirmed they'll be no RAF Waddington Anjou next year in

:05:54. > :06:08.2015 because of work that is being done here to rebuild the runway

:06:09. > :06:21.It is disappointing. To be presented with that news has taken thd weekend

:06:22. > :06:28.away from those. It brings ` tear to my eye. Quite devastated. Wd were

:06:29. > :06:35.hoping the Ayrshire would c`rry on. `` we were hoping the show would

:06:36. > :06:40.carry on. Organisers have rdfused to speculate about what could happen in

:06:41. > :06:46.future years, or if this cotld be the final airshow clear. Thd event

:06:47. > :06:51.is worth millions to the local economy. For traders, the

:06:52. > :06:56.cancellation leaves a hole hn their calendars. There are a lot of shows

:06:57. > :07:01.around the country from Invdrness to Brighton. Bit upset that solething

:07:02. > :07:06.so good and prosperous will not be here next year. But it will be back,

:07:07. > :07:11.and probably just as big as it is now. The Vulcan is always a

:07:12. > :07:19.favourite among the crowds. One of its pilot told me he is hopdful the

:07:20. > :07:25.show will return in 2016. W`ddington is very special. We hope it comes

:07:26. > :07:28.back stronger than ever in 2016 We definitely no show next year, it is

:07:29. > :07:34.little wonder organisers ard expecting record`breaking crowds

:07:35. > :07:38.this weekend. Organisers told me that advance ticket sales are rocked

:07:39. > :07:42.by 20% this year compared to last year. For the first time evdr, there

:07:43. > :07:48.will be no tickets availabld on the gate on Saturday or Sunday. With no

:07:49. > :07:53.show next year, if you want to be among the 150,000 expected here this

:07:54. > :07:55.weekend, you have to purchase an advance ticket before tomorrow

:07:56. > :07:59.night. Thank you.

:08:00. > :08:02.done here to rebuild the runway Wing Commander Jim Beldon is from

:08:03. > :08:04.RAF Waddington I asked him hf the airshow could relocate to ndarby RAF

:08:05. > :08:16.Scampton. This year's air show is at RAF

:08:17. > :08:20.Waddington, but next year that has to be cancelled owing to thd

:08:21. > :08:28.restructuring work to the rtnway. The decision about the venud of a

:08:29. > :08:31.future show has yet to be determined. Whether there whll be an

:08:32. > :08:37.event next year of any kind is not yet decided, and for 2016, `

:08:38. > :08:42.decision will be forthcoming in the future. So it is possible there

:08:43. > :08:50.could be a Waddington air show next year but somewhere else? Thd

:08:51. > :08:54.Waddington earth show is cancelled. There has been no information about

:08:55. > :08:58.any other information. The only information I have is that

:08:59. > :09:04.regrettably, the show next xear is cancelled. Can you guaranted that in

:09:05. > :09:09.2016, it will be back at Waddington? I sincerely hope it will, btt we

:09:10. > :09:19.await a decision on that, which will be forthcoming. So you can't give a

:09:20. > :09:26.guarantee it will be back? H can give absolute confirmation on that,

:09:27. > :09:30.no. Operationally, it is very busy there. Is it perhaps in these tight

:09:31. > :09:37.security times, is it is not a go any more? It is a very busy,

:09:38. > :10:20.operational station and has been throughout my association hdre,

:10:21. > :10:22.toilets were smashed and furniture was made into weapons,

:10:23. > :10:28.just days after the segregation unit on J wing opened last Lay.

:10:29. > :10:48.Boxing nor the Lincolnshire are to investigate

:10:49. > :10:54.Hospital, while ear, nose and throat services would be based on the

:10:55. > :10:58.Grimsby site. If the numbers are not big enough to maintain both sites,

:10:59. > :11:04.in the same way we have looked at ear and throat and stroke, ht may be

:11:05. > :11:09.possible to have children sdrvices to mount one of the sites.

:11:10. > :11:12.The Humberside Police Commissioner says he's prepared to ask the

:11:13. > :11:14.government for extra money hf anti`fracking protests conthnue in

:11:15. > :11:16.East Yorkshire. Matthew Grove says the cost of policing the

:11:17. > :11:19.demonstrations has the potential to become a concern. His comments come

:11:20. > :11:22.as Humberside Police is criticised for sending too many officers to

:11:23. > :11:31.police a protest at a gas drilling well. Here's Paul Murphy.

:11:32. > :11:35.This morning there was a light police presence at the drilling

:11:36. > :11:38.site. It was in marked contrast to last night when dozens of officers

:11:39. > :11:50.descended on this remote corner of East Yorkshire as the lorry after

:11:51. > :11:54.lorry of gas drilling equiplent was driven into the site. Lots of police

:11:55. > :11:57.along the route. Police werd at quite frequent intervals. It seems

:11:58. > :12:02.so excessive, the number of police. These people are not violent, they

:12:03. > :12:05.want to make a peaceful protest This is about a controversi`l method

:12:06. > :12:07.of gas extraction. There is no fracking taking place here but

:12:08. > :12:12.protesters believe it is a latter of time before it does. At present

:12:13. > :12:23.local people seem more concdrned about the nature of the polhce

:12:24. > :12:26.response. I've never seen so many police. You would not have `s many

:12:27. > :12:31.lease if you'd had two murddrs. The children videoed it because they had

:12:32. > :12:47.never seen anything like it before. There is growing frustration. You

:12:48. > :12:58.My message would be, go homd. We welcome you to demonstrate, but wait

:12:59. > :13:06.until we have proposals on ht. Costs will also be a concern. The Greater

:13:07. > :13:09.Manchester force ramped up bills of over ?1 million. It is applxing for

:13:10. > :13:15.government help now. The Hulberside police Commissioner says if the cost

:13:16. > :13:34.of policing protest here escalate, he will do the same. I will write to

:13:35. > :13:40.the Home Secretary if it continues. Was that police say its presence was

:13:41. > :13:45.to facilitate a peaceful process `` Humberside police. It is a challenge

:13:46. > :13:47.this force will face again `nd again with these protesters in thd weeks

:13:48. > :13:50.to come. Who should pick up the cost

:13:51. > :13:53.of policing the protests? Is it right it comes out

:13:54. > :13:57.of the general policing budget? Should the Home Office step in

:13:58. > :14:02.and give Humberside Police dxtra Six weeks of repairs to the Selby

:14:03. > :14:27.swing bridge ` and a warning of delays and disruption

:14:28. > :14:31.for rail passengers this sulmer Pictures from space ` captured a

:14:32. > :14:42.part of a school science experiment. River Hull in Beverley taken by

:14:43. > :15:00.Robert Bentley. Thank you for that. Paul has gone

:15:01. > :15:06.part time this week. This week?

:15:07. > :15:09.Yes, not just this week. A lessage here saying that somebody s`w

:15:10. > :15:18.clearly Donovan on a bicycld with somebody even older than Peter.

:15:19. > :15:22.I am not sure handed people would thank me for seen you in cycling

:15:23. > :15:27.shorts. I think you would look craving them.

:15:28. > :15:33.John said that you get around. I think he meant cycling.

:15:34. > :15:47.I will get onto the weekend forecast in a minute. Tomorrow looks largely

:15:48. > :15:55.dry, but it will be cloudy. Overnight Friday into Saturday, some

:15:56. > :16:03.heavy spots of rain. We havd had some sunshine today. It has felt

:16:04. > :16:08.quite humid out there. Tempdratures got to 23 of 24 in some parts of

:16:09. > :16:12.Lincolnshire, but humid feel, and that will continue overnight. A lot

:16:13. > :16:18.of cloud overnight, but gendrally fairly overcast, and a mild night

:16:19. > :16:35.with temperatures falling to 15 or 16. Tomorrow, that cloud cotld be

:16:36. > :16:44.thick for the hotspot of light rain or drizzle, but for the bulk of the

:16:45. > :16:49.day, it will be largely dry. His rain spreading tomorrow evening

:16:50. > :17:03.Temperatures should be quitd warm, getting up into the early 20s. As I

:17:04. > :17:10.mentioned, cold front from the North. The rain will clear `nd it

:17:11. > :17:16.will brighten. Sunday, the risk of the odd shower in the afternoon

:17:17. > :17:24.I suspect you will get some offers of cycling partners are not under.

:17:25. > :17:26.I wonder if you will get anx request for pictures in lycra.

:17:27. > :17:29.I doubt it. Every passenger wanting to travel

:17:30. > :17:31.by train to Leeds or Manchester this summer from Hull will have to

:17:32. > :17:34.start their journey on a bus. It's because of six weeks of repair

:17:35. > :17:38.work to a key bridge on the line. It'll add 40 minutes to

:17:39. > :17:41.the journey with business owners on the East Yorkshire coast saying

:17:42. > :17:44.that could put people off vhsiting. Work's already started strengthening

:17:45. > :17:57.sections Selby Swing Bridge. Built in 1889, the ageing structure

:17:58. > :18:00.has often been the source of delays for passengers getting to and from

:18:01. > :18:02.East Yorkshire. This ?14 million upgrade

:18:03. > :18:19.aims to fix that. But it also means It obviously is a problem for

:18:20. > :18:23.commuters, but the work has to be done. It will make it a bit of a

:18:24. > :18:25.nightmare. From the 26th July to the 8th

:18:26. > :18:28.September, First Transpennine Express Northern Rail trahns from

:18:29. > :18:37.Leeds or York will stop at Selby, divert via Goole, with buses

:18:38. > :18:49.ferrying passengers to the station It will be significant, and Jenny

:18:50. > :18:58.Sandell be extended by around 3 minutes. Unfortunately, the road is

:18:59. > :19:05.not as quick as the trains `` and journey times will be extended.

:19:06. > :19:07.A landslip on another line last summer

:19:08. > :19:10.delayed these works. The public got a chance to have a closer look at

:19:11. > :19:23.The work will mean current weight and speed restrictions on the bridge

:19:24. > :19:26.will be lifted, which should improve the reliability of services. There

:19:27. > :19:32.is concern about the timing of these repairs, in the middle of the

:19:33. > :19:39.tourist season. I am concerned there will be some sort of withdr`wal of

:19:40. > :19:43.people coming to Bridlington. It will affect people who are coming

:19:44. > :19:47.certainly for day trips to the seaside, because they will see it

:19:48. > :19:50.has a disproportionate amount of disruption.

:19:51. > :19:53.So it may be a short term inconvenience, but these

:19:54. > :19:55.improvements should mean faster trains for passengers in thd future.

:19:56. > :19:58.So it may be a short term inconvenience, but these

:19:59. > :20:00.improvements should mean faster trains for passengers in thd future.

:20:01. > :20:02.Do you use trains into Leeds or Manchester?

:20:03. > :20:05.Would it put you off visiting the East Coast

:20:06. > :20:58.Thanks to everyone who got hn touch about foreign aid.

:20:59. > :21:01.In the last few minutes, thd opening ceremony for the Tour de Fr`nce

:21:02. > :21:04.which gets underway in Yorkshire at the weekend, has begun.

:21:05. > :21:07.Some of the top riders in the world have arrived and are making their

:21:08. > :21:10.Organisers say they're delighted with the response that

:21:11. > :21:27.There are yellow bikes everxwhere, French flags everywhere, bunting

:21:28. > :21:33.everywhere. It is amazing, very special. There is such a passion for

:21:34. > :21:37.cycling and love for the totr. I am very impressed.

:21:38. > :21:39.It's 60 years since the famous film company Ealing

:21:40. > :21:42.Studios came to East Yorkshhre with one of its best loved stars.

:21:43. > :21:44.Lease Of Life was made on location here in 1954.

:21:45. > :21:47.It starred Robert Donat and involved many local people as extras.

:21:48. > :21:55.This is the founder's day sdrmon I was going to preach to you.

:21:56. > :21:58.Lease of Life tells the story of a country parson,

:21:59. > :22:10.who gives a controversial sdrmon to a cathedral full of schoolboys.

:22:11. > :22:13.In 1954, Ealing Studios found the perfect place to be

:22:14. > :22:17.It was, in fact, Beverley and most of the schoolboys were boys

:22:18. > :22:25.Mixing with the stars and some rather ill`fitting uniforms.

:22:26. > :22:28.You were given one that was the nearest size to fit.

:22:29. > :22:30.One or two of them were rather baggy.

:22:31. > :22:31.The cloth was rather a poor quality cloth.

:22:32. > :22:34.We wouldn't have had a blazdr of that cloth.

:22:35. > :22:41.This lady, with the pale co`t, was Adrienne Corri.

:22:42. > :22:44.Many of us who were about 14 or 16 thought she was very glamorous.

:22:45. > :22:46.She had beautiful red, or auburn hair.

:22:47. > :22:50.The lead was Robert Donat, seen here on the left.

:22:51. > :22:54.He starred in films like Thd 39 Steps and Goodbye Mr Chips.

:22:55. > :23:02.His character's country parhsh was really the village of Ltnd.

:23:03. > :23:03.Claude Hodgson also played a small part.

:23:04. > :23:06.Named on his official letter from Ealing, as Pot Man.

:23:07. > :23:08.They had old tramlines right down near me and

:23:09. > :23:27.People came from miles around to see it.

:23:28. > :23:29.Choosing an East Yorkshire location would have been

:23:30. > :23:35.A film company with an international reputation.

:23:36. > :23:38.I can't think of an Ealing film before this that was actually set

:23:39. > :23:41.in Yorkshire. They were looking for a Cathedral town and, appardntly,

:23:42. > :23:44.there was a member of Ealing staff who was the son of

:23:45. > :23:48.the then Archbishop of Cantdrbury. He said what about Beverley Minster.

:23:49. > :23:53.The schoolboys couldn't be paid so they each received a book,

:23:54. > :23:58.as thanks. The school library was also donated a chair.

:23:59. > :24:01.Small mementos but inspiring great memories of the days when E`ling

:24:02. > :24:10.They're pictures that could have been taken by a multi billion

:24:11. > :24:14.But instead, these were takdn 1 miles above Earth

:24:15. > :24:16.by a ?500 smart phone belonging to schoolchildren in Boston.

:24:17. > :24:34.All the schools and Lincolnshire want their students to reach for the

:24:35. > :24:40.skies, but how many have actually touch the edge of space? Yot just

:24:41. > :24:45.realise, this has been into space. Not only has it been in space, you

:24:46. > :24:52.have put it into space. Kyle was part of a team that sent an

:24:53. > :24:59.iPhone into space, capturing this footage.

:25:00. > :25:04.It gives is a great view. That blue glow of the earth with that backdrop

:25:05. > :25:10.of space behind it, for me that is what I wanted to achieve. As it

:25:11. > :25:17.falls, that opens a parachute. You see the balloon that has just burst

:25:18. > :25:20.above it. Goes, before it starts to fall again. The space balloon and

:25:21. > :25:26.parachute were created here in this science lab. Maths, physics and

:25:27. > :25:37.media students all played their part. This is where we put the heat

:25:38. > :25:45.pad. They chased the parachtte using satellite tracking. When thdy caught

:25:46. > :25:52.up with it in Norfolk, they had to wonder how I was footage. Creating

:25:53. > :25:57.such a documentary which has been able to almost broadcast around is

:25:58. > :26:04.pretty amazing. The crisp qtality of the images are phenomenal. Ht has

:26:05. > :26:11.done a really good job and hnspiring students. There hasn't been a

:26:12. > :26:15.student who hasn't had another question about it. You have to

:26:16. > :26:18.admire the technical skill. My favourite thing is the fact it was a

:26:19. > :26:24.couple of small pencils that help this together.

:26:25. > :26:30.This was all achieved by a handful of young minds and Italian teacher.
