:00:00. > :00:00.Through Sunday and inch or two inches of rain, gales are possible

:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North.

:00:00. > :00:13.Arriving in Lincolnshire after a transatlantic flight `

:00:14. > :00:18.the world's only airworthy Lancasters are brought together.

:00:19. > :00:21.But there was disappointment here at RAF Coningsby where heavy rain and

:00:22. > :00:26.thunder storms meant their historic flight together had to be cancelled.

:00:27. > :00:30.More than half an inch of rain in less than an hour ` flash floods

:00:31. > :00:55.The worst of the bad weather is over for now, but more storms are

:00:56. > :00:58.I'll have the full forecast later in the programme.

:00:59. > :01:02.The motorway closures which tourism bosses say will put

:01:03. > :01:06.The last minute goal that kept Hull City's European dream alive.

:01:07. > :01:11.As unique to the area as the Humber Bridge and white phone boxes,

:01:12. > :01:23.but is Chip Spice one of Hull's best kept secrets?

:01:24. > :01:27.It was supposed to be a unique moment in aviation history,

:01:28. > :01:31.but today thunderstorms and heavy rain meant the flight

:01:32. > :01:33.of two Lancaster bombers over Lincolnshire had to be cancelled.

:01:34. > :01:36.Thousands of people had turned out to see the world's last two

:01:37. > :01:50.A flypast over Lincoln cathedral accompanied by

:01:51. > :01:56.the Red Arrows had been planned, but the weather put a stop to all that.

:01:57. > :01:58.Gemma Dawson has spent the day at RAF Coningsby where

:01:59. > :02:11.Gemma, how much of a disappointment has this been?

:02:12. > :02:21.The Canadian Lancaster has travelled 3700 miles. But with 100 miles to go

:02:22. > :02:27.a thunderstorm hit preventing the fly`past taking place. But many

:02:28. > :02:33.people were happy to sleep off of the Lancasters together even if it

:02:34. > :02:48.was just on the tarmac. `` were happy to witness the Tang Castor ``

:02:49. > :02:52.witness the Lancaster together. Sometimes on the way to read you

:02:53. > :03:04.could see at the Lancaster is underneath you.

:03:05. > :03:06.To commemorate the wartime efforts and the lives lost the Canadian

:03:07. > :03:15.Lancaster is set off for Lincolnshire. They stopped in a

:03:16. > :03:20.slant last night. Back in Lincolnshire crowds had gathered

:03:21. > :03:27.from early this morning. We were on our way to a wedding and we heard

:03:28. > :03:33.about this. To see one is fantastic, to see two is out of this world. It

:03:34. > :03:40.is once in a lifetime. At 11 o'clock the Lancaster was taken into

:03:41. > :03:47.position. There have been false starts over the years to try to get

:03:48. > :03:58.both aircraft together. Finally it has come together. But it was not to

:03:59. > :04:12.be. The weather turned. EV Asian enthusiasts waited for news. ``

:04:13. > :04:25.Aviation enthusiasts waited for news. We were waiting for so long.

:04:26. > :04:35.40 minutes late their Canadian aircraft arrived. It is a momentous

:04:36. > :04:40.day to have these aircraft together. I am disappointed that they have not

:04:41. > :04:47.been able to fly together. But it is a very exciting day. It would have

:04:48. > :04:55.been nice to see them fly together. But I am happy enough. The aircraft

:04:56. > :05:02.were finally united on the runway. The historic flight is still to

:05:03. > :05:07.come. The Canadian Lancaster needs to be

:05:08. > :05:13.serviced after its long journey. The aircraft are now due to fly together

:05:14. > :05:16.next week. There will be a number of events

:05:17. > :05:32.where both aircraft will appeared together.

:05:33. > :05:33.So there are still plenty of opportunities to see the aircraft

:05:34. > :05:43.flying together. With three quarters of an inch

:05:44. > :05:46.of rain falling in an hour it wasn't just today's historic fly

:05:47. > :05:48.past which was affected. Flash flooding has caused damage to

:05:49. > :05:50.homes and businesses in several places with Louth being

:05:51. > :05:53.the worst affected. Our reporter Jill Archbold has spent

:05:54. > :05:55.the afternoon there A torrential downpour that didn't

:05:56. > :06:01.last more than half an hour which overwhelmed this Lincolnshire

:06:02. > :06:02.market town. The rain described

:06:03. > :06:15.by those living here as biblical. It's just flooded from three

:06:16. > :06:18.different directions. It was coming in under The Doors.

:06:19. > :06:20.One street in Eastgate looked more like a river.

:06:21. > :06:23.Luckily for Michael O'Hara sandbags saved his home ` his garden taking

:06:24. > :06:32.It is fair rather than anything else that that will get worse and come

:06:33. > :06:52.into the house. What can you do? Contractors in Louth working

:06:53. > :07:10.for Anglian Water rushed with They saw what was happening to us

:07:11. > :07:19.and came to our assistance. We were within two inches of it coming into

:07:20. > :07:22.the house. There is going to be further rainfall but we hope it will

:07:23. > :07:26.not be on the same scale as earlier on. But we have taken the

:07:27. > :07:30.opportunity to do further planning. Water poured through the ceiling

:07:31. > :07:33.at this sewing shop ` and business owner Valarie rushed to

:07:34. > :07:37.save wedding dresses. I have a dress that cost a lot of

:07:38. > :07:50.money. It cannot be replaced. With more rain forecast `

:07:51. > :07:52.emergency services in Louth watch closely to see if their help will be

:07:53. > :08:02.needed once more. Mark Welsh is from

:08:03. > :08:05.Lincolnshire County Council. I asked him what problems

:08:06. > :08:29.the rain had caused flooding. In years gone by we would

:08:30. > :08:29.down? not `` either councils letting as

:08:30. > :08:33.down? Fire and Rescue have been there

:08:34. > :08:39.through the day. This sort of rainfall, where ever it would fall

:08:40. > :08:43.would cause a problem. One of the water companies has said this will

:08:44. > :08:51.be the norm for the future. Have you got the resources to cope? Some

:08:52. > :08:56.people see the likelihood of summer five times as likely. I think that

:08:57. > :09:03.is true. In terms of resources we are prepared. There was some heavy

:09:04. > :09:09.rain today for a short period of time and then we see those pictures.

:09:10. > :09:17.Do you have the resources to cope? Yes we have. Had that rain fallen

:09:18. > :09:29.somewhere else it would have caused the same problem. What advice do you

:09:30. > :09:48.have for those affected today, and also over the weekend? I am very

:09:49. > :09:53.sorry for anybody that has been flooded. We will be investigating

:09:54. > :09:58.that. Over the weekend, heavy rainfall tonight, Sunday, a storm

:09:59. > :10:02.coming through. Be prepared. Check the Environment Agency for online.

:10:03. > :10:06.Check the net office warnings. Have you been affected

:10:07. > :10:08.by the flooding today? A man accused of murdering

:10:09. > :10:30.a Bridlington guest house owner John Heald appeared at

:10:31. > :10:33.Hull Crown Court Bei Carter died at the

:10:34. > :10:37.Morayland Guest House on He also faces ten separate charges

:10:38. > :10:42.of rape in South Yorkshire. Health officials trying to trace

:10:43. > :10:45.the source of a Legionnaires disease outbreak say four people

:10:46. > :10:48.recovering from the disease had all visited Freeman Street in Grimsby

:10:49. > :10:54.prior to being ill. The source of the infection

:10:55. > :11:00.hasn't yet been identified. Doctors? surgeries will stay

:11:01. > :11:03.on alert for another two weeks A man has been charged

:11:04. > :11:08.after a laser`like beam was shone at a police helicopter in

:11:09. > :11:11.North East Lincolnshire. Simon Pearson who's 40 and from

:11:12. > :11:14.St Nicolas Drive in Grimsby, has been charged under the

:11:15. > :11:17.Air Navigation Order. He was arrested in the early

:11:18. > :11:20.hours of yesterday morning. The first female commander

:11:21. > :11:22.of a Royal Navy warship, who was born and raised

:11:23. > :11:25.in Lincolnshire, has been removed from her post after claims she had

:11:26. > :11:32.an affair with another officer. Commander Sarah West from Grimsby

:11:33. > :11:37.took charge of HMS Portland in May 2012,

:11:38. > :11:40.but left her vessel last month. A Royal Navy spokesman said that

:11:41. > :11:45.she would be assigned a new role. That's the message

:11:46. > :11:49.from business leaders who fear that visitors won?t come to the town this

:11:50. > :11:52.weekend because of the traffic chaos Part

:11:53. > :11:55.of the motorway was reopened today after the Highways Agency admitted

:11:56. > :11:58.it was wrong to shut the eastbound More from our

:11:59. > :12:25.Political Editor Tim Iredale. Throughout the day yesterday

:12:26. > :12:27.national radio stations warned of the problems caused by the closure

:12:28. > :12:30.of this section of the M180. Although only one lane eastbound

:12:31. > :12:34.reopened today traffic was moving. And that meant

:12:35. > :12:37.a less stressful journey for drivers Where have you come from? What was

:12:38. > :12:50.the motorway like? Not too bad. But some Cleethorpes business owners

:12:51. > :12:53.fear this week's traffic chaos in North Lincolnshire will deter

:12:54. > :13:04.many weekend visitors. The gentleman said he would give

:13:05. > :13:12.himself the eight of ten for the destruction. I would give him too.

:13:13. > :13:18.On behalf of of the traders, please, it is a storm in a teacup.

:13:19. > :13:20.The Highways Agency admit they got it wrong by closing the whole

:13:21. > :13:23.They've spoken to business leaders and politicians in

:13:24. > :13:32.North East Lincolnshire to avoid a repeat performance.

:13:33. > :13:41.The traders and the tourist industry are outraged. These problems can

:13:42. > :13:49.easily be avoided. The message is that we are open for business. The

:13:50. > :13:49.agency has promised to try and put alternative traffic arrangements in

:13:50. > :13:52.place. Of course if you are heading to

:13:53. > :13:55.the seaside this weekend other modes Tim Iredale, BBC Look North,

:13:56. > :14:02.Cleethorpes. Thanks to everyone who got

:14:03. > :15:20.in touch about the roadworks taking faced the axe in the World War I.

:15:21. > :15:30.He showed a picture last night of me in Turkey. There is a picture of me

:15:31. > :15:34.in France. The director says it is dull.

:15:35. > :15:51.Maybe they cannot understand what you are seeing.

:15:52. > :15:57.Still some very heavy showers around. Still the potential for a

:15:58. > :16:07.heavy downforce over the next few hours. After a fine day tomorrow

:17:23. > :17:27.will be broken. On Sunday heavy rain will spread out from the side. Very

:17:28. > :17:45.windy overnights, Sunday into Monday.

:17:46. > :17:48.And somebody has contacted us to see that you are Mary Poppins of whether

:18:24. > :18:26.a difficult night for the Tigers That away goal meant the home

:18:27. > :18:33.side needed two to progress. It was a frustrating effort until

:18:34. > :18:36.Robbie Brady's cross found a superb So just the one needed

:18:37. > :18:42.but it wouldn't come. Not until substitute Sone Aluko

:19:31. > :19:32.So expect a busy time around King George Dock in Hull

:19:33. > :19:38.around the 20th August as fans make the short hop to the continent.

:20:00. > :20:06.The players we have brought to the club will make us competitive. It is

:20:07. > :20:11.difficult to see where we're going to finish. We want to finish as high

:20:12. > :20:14.as we possibly can. You have got to make sure you stay in that league.

:20:15. > :20:16.And BBC Radio Humberside will have full commentary of

:21:27. > :21:29.But when war broke out 100 years ago, the venue's star

:21:30. > :21:32.faced being axed because everyone thought he was German.

:21:33. > :21:38.Jo Makel has been looking at how even the world

:21:39. > :21:49.of entertainment couldn't escape the realities of war.

:21:50. > :22:07.Edwardian piddling ten combined seaside fun with elegance. `` Eduard

:22:50. > :22:51.seaside. But Kandt's future at the Spa was

:22:52. > :22:53.at risk. The outbreak of war meant

:22:54. > :22:55.attitudes were changing. Seaside fun was

:22:56. > :22:57.about to get serious. For one thing the Government wanted

:22:58. > :22:59.everyone to boycott German goods. But the worry about German

:23:00. > :23:01.influences put the spotlight He was from a Russian immigrant

:23:02. > :23:05.family, called Kantovich and had But his adopted name ` Herr Kandt `

:23:06. > :23:13.was a problem. It was a disaster to be branded as a

:23:14. > :23:22.foreigner, especially if you were in military uniform. There was a

:23:23. > :23:30.feeling in favour of him in the town because of commercial reasons.

:23:31. > :23:38.Loyalty to King and country crashed against commercial success. Energy

:23:39. > :23:45.and the council decided to keep him. He was on a new wartime contract

:23:46. > :23:54.which could be changed at any time. A lot of effort was made.

:23:55. > :23:57.Even the elegant escapist world of the Spa could not avoid

:23:58. > :24:31.You may not have heard of chips ice. We went to find out by chip spice is

:24:32. > :24:41.such a hit. It is a phenomenon. Its appeal seems

:24:42. > :24:53.to be spreading. I am sending it to my son who emigrated to Australia.

:24:54. > :25:01.It is good to. This person is one of those credited with starting the

:25:02. > :25:06.clays. We saw products of the same style in America. That puts the idea

:25:07. > :25:20.into our heads. It has inspired a line of clothing. They sold out

:25:21. > :25:24.straightaway. And now this entrepreneur has brought out his own

:25:25. > :25:38.brand. Who better to explain what it is? You can put chilly or carry on

:25:39. > :25:46.your chips. It is healthy. But in Lincolnshire at no one has heard of

:25:47. > :25:54.it. Have you ever heard of it? No. It is not something we have been

:25:55. > :25:58.asked for. It has not spread over the bridge

:25:59. > :26:16.yet, but one day Lincolnshire could be as mad on chip spice.

:26:17. > :26:23.Here is a recap of the headlines. America attacks Islamist militants

:26:24. > :26:28.in Iraq launching an air strike. And the last to hear worthy

:26:43. > :26:53.that has happened today in Lincolnshire.

:26:54. > :27:00.And one viewer has said he is fed up hearing how the agencies are working

:27:01. > :27:03.hard and still the floods occur. Many of the messages seeing a

:27:04. > :27:07.similar thing. Another message says, it is always

:27:08. > :27:13.the same places where it flat and they want to build new homes where

:27:14. > :27:17.it floods. Another message says, too many

:27:18. > :27:21.houses are being built without sufficient infrastructure such as

:27:22. > :27:27.drains. And another message says, as houses

:27:28. > :27:32.were not squashed into small pleasers without renewing the drains

:27:33. > :27:38.then they would not be an overflow of the drains.

:27:39. > :27:59.Buying queue for all the messages. `` thank you. Goodbye.
