:00:00. > :00:00.again. Something to look forward to. That is all from the BBC News at

:00:00. > :00:14.six. Good evening and welcome to BBC Look

:00:15. > :00:17.North. The headlines tonight. Health experts say new smoking rules

:00:18. > :00:20.could protect local children, but there is opposition to a change in

:00:21. > :00:36.the law. I believe banning smoking at home is

:00:37. > :00:46.an infringement of personal liberties.

:00:47. > :00:49.Hull City fans say they will welcome supporters from Belgium despite

:00:50. > :00:52.trouble at last week's match. Campaigners in Goole say there are

:00:53. > :00:55.too many people renting rooms in the town and fight to stop another

:00:56. > :00:57.development. The '50s movie star being remembered

:00:58. > :01:04.in the east coast town where she was born.

:01:05. > :01:23.I've detailed forecast follows shortly. `` A detailed forecast.

:01:24. > :01:25.Ineffective and unenforceable ` that's how one Conservative MP from

:01:26. > :01:30.our area has described plans to ban smoking in cars carrying children. A

:01:31. > :01:33.consultation on the idea closed today with experts saying it could

:01:34. > :01:37.improve the health of young people in Hull ` a city with one of the

:01:38. > :01:39.highest smoking rates in the country. In a moment I'll be

:01:40. > :01:43.speaking to Andrew Percy ` the MP for Brigg and Goole. But first our

:01:44. > :02:04.Health Correspondent Vicky Johnson has this report.

:02:05. > :02:09.well known but ARE children at particular risk when it comes to

:02:10. > :02:11.breathing in cigarette fumes, especially in a car?

:02:12. > :02:13.Deborah Parkinson is a senior stop`smoking specialist, working in

:02:14. > :02:16.Hull. Their lungs are smaller, their

:02:17. > :02:19.breathing rate is a lot more rapid and their immune system is much

:02:20. > :02:22.more, needs much more development and that means they are a lot more

:02:23. > :02:24.susceptible to things like respiratory disorders and also

:02:25. > :02:26.things like ear infections, as well. Previous public health campaigns

:02:27. > :02:29.have highlighted the hidden dangers. Over 80% of cigarette smoke is

:02:30. > :02:31.invisible. No matter how careful you are, they

:02:32. > :02:35.still breathe in the harmful poisons.

:02:36. > :02:37.The toxins in smoke, things like arsenic, formaldehyde, carbon

:02:38. > :02:40.monoxide, those become breathed in. In some areas of Hull, almost 50% of

:02:41. > :02:50.people smoke but even here most of the ones we

:02:51. > :03:39.spoke to say children in cars should not have to breathe in toxic fumes.

:03:40. > :03:44.If it is made illegal then drivers who smoke, or allow others to smoke

:03:45. > :03:47.when children are in their car, could face hefty fines.

:03:48. > :03:49.Smokers' groups insist such a ban is Andrew Percy is the Conservative MP

:03:50. > :03:58.for Brigg and Goole, he voted against the ban when it was debated

:03:59. > :04:28.by MPs earlier this year. Why did you vote against this man?

:04:29. > :04:42.``this ban. I asked my constituents and a narrow majority said that I

:04:43. > :04:52.should oppose this band. ``this ban. This is because it is unenforceable.

:04:53. > :04:56.Do you agree that smokers should have the right to choose and should

:04:57. > :05:00.not be told what to do by the government, even though they are

:05:01. > :05:06.subjecting their children to smoke? I think it was more about weather

:05:07. > :05:13.this is enforceable or not. People see people driving at excessive

:05:14. > :05:20.speeds and on mobile phones. Those lows are not being enforced. I

:05:21. > :05:24.remember when we all drove around without seat belts on and when it

:05:25. > :05:28.became law suddenly everybody had seat belts on. That was difficult to

:05:29. > :05:41.enforce but it made us change our way of life. It is easier to enforce

:05:42. > :05:46.seat belt. Spotting someone smoking can be very difficult and to spot

:05:47. > :05:48.that they have children in the car. They can often be very small

:05:49. > :05:53.children so to is a difficult thing to enforce. It should not take the

:05:54. > :06:04.government to tell people they should not be smoking in cars. Let's

:06:05. > :06:10.enforce what we have already. Some people do drive around with children

:06:11. > :06:15.in cars. These levels are comparable with her smoke`filled pub. It is a

:06:16. > :06:20.terrible thing and adapter thing to do but I would wonder if people who

:06:21. > :06:25.are doing it now, this irresponsible behaviour, will do it because a

:06:26. > :06:41.government says it has to be enforced.

:06:42. > :06:44.Lots of you have been debating this story on our Facebook page, Don't

:06:45. > :06:48.forget to like us on Facebook and you can have your say, too. Jackie

:06:49. > :06:51.says, "They banned mobile phones in cars but certain people think it

:06:52. > :06:55.doesn't apply to them! What makes the government think that type of

:06:56. > :07:09.person will take any notice of this ban!?" Robert says, "People won't

:07:10. > :07:16.adhere to it. Peter, "Like mobile phones in cars it won't be policed."

:07:17. > :07:19.Janie says, "If you smoke in the car whilst your children are with you,

:07:20. > :07:22.then you deserve to be fined. There is NO excuse."

:07:23. > :07:25.Do you agree that smoking in cars with children in them should be

:07:26. > :07:28.banned? Or is Andrew Percy right, is it impossible to police? Do you

:07:29. > :07:32.think it should be a priority for officers? Or is it a law too far?

:07:33. > :07:35.The headstones of those who fell during the First World War are

:07:36. > :07:40.A murder investigation is under way after the death of a 39`year`old man

:07:41. > :07:42.in Bridlington. He was found unconscious by police in Sewerby

:07:43. > :07:47.Road just before 4.30 this morning and died shortly after at the scene.

:07:48. > :07:56.Four men were arrested near Hornsea and are being questioned by police.

:07:57. > :07:59.Yorkshire ambulance staff have voted to go on strike again as part of a

:08:00. > :08:02.long running dispute over changes to shift patterns. The strike by

:08:03. > :08:05.members of the Unite union will to start on Friday. Managers say there

:08:06. > :08:06.are "robust contingency plans in place."

:08:07. > :08:11.Roads in part of Lincoln, which were upgraded last year, are being

:08:12. > :08:14.repaired after a fault was found. The County Council says it's found

:08:15. > :08:21.some "minor issues" on sections of Newark Road. Work will start at the

:08:22. > :08:24.beginning of September. It is always frustrating when things

:08:25. > :08:27.don't go right first time. Sometimes it happens, unfortunately.

:08:28. > :08:30.We need to get the material right for

:08:31. > :08:36.the longer term so it will last as long as possible and value for money

:08:37. > :08:39.for Lincolnshire County Council. Supporters of Hull City say visiting

:08:40. > :08:43.European fans should be given a warm welcome to East Yorkshire despite

:08:44. > :08:47.trouble after last week's game. The first leg against Lokeren last week

:08:48. > :08:54.was marred by violence from banned Belgian hooligans following the

:08:55. > :09:03.final whistle. Police here say they've reassessed their approach to

:09:04. > :09:06.tomorrow's match but it will still be low`key. The Hull City manager,

:09:07. > :09:08.Steve Bruce, says he wants fans from both sides to enjoy the game.

:09:09. > :09:10.Phillip Norton reports. Hull City and Sporting Lokeren fans

:09:11. > :09:12.enjoying Belgian hospitality together last week.

:09:13. > :09:17.These pictures sum up the overall warm, friendly

:09:18. > :09:20.atmosphere that surrounded the Tigers' 1`0 defeat in the first leg.

:09:21. > :09:28.The Lokeren people have been fantastic.

:09:29. > :09:31.They've welcomed us with open arms. We had a fantastic time. But the

:09:32. > :09:34.authorities in Belgium now admit that a police escort forced

:09:35. > :09:36.1200 Hull City fans past a pub full of known Lokeren troublemakers.

:09:37. > :09:37.Bottles and chairs were thrown at Hull supporters,

:09:38. > :09:57.a number were injured. The real welcome but not by an army

:09:58. > :10:00.of riot police. We want to get the message out that we welcome a

:10:01. > :10:09.friendly fans from Europe to enjoy the football match. Some supporters

:10:10. > :10:17.feel similar facilities would help tomorrow. We want them to share and

:10:18. > :10:23.enjoy our city when they come here and we had those privileges when we

:10:24. > :10:28.went there. They made us feel very welcome and it was a very friendly

:10:29. > :10:31.atmosphere and that is no doubt that they should be entitled to exactly

:10:32. > :10:33.the same reception here and we hope that the Belgians feel very happy

:10:34. > :10:39.and welcome here. a number were injured.

:10:40. > :10:42.It soured what had been a great occasion but fans here want the city

:10:43. > :10:43.to welcome their opponents and fans. A call backed by manager Steve

:10:44. > :10:46.Bruce. The one thing you don't want to be

:10:47. > :10:50.doing is having those ugly scenes we all saw on the TV.

:10:51. > :10:53.doing is having those ugly scenes we all saw on the TV.

:10:54. > :10:58.From what I'm hearing, we did nothing wrong,

:10:59. > :11:01.the Hull supporters, and they kept their calm very, very well.

:11:02. > :11:04.Let's hope there's no nonsense and any repeat of anything like that.

:11:05. > :11:06.Let's enjoy the match and the game and enjoy

:11:07. > :11:08.the occasion without any trouble. Humberside Police says it supports a

:11:09. > :11:11.celebratory atmosphere, but will deal with any offences committed by

:11:12. > :11:24.either set of fans proportionately and without discrimination.

:11:25. > :11:27.Phillip is at the Port of Hull. When are the majority of the supporters

:11:28. > :11:40.Hundreds of fans are getting on to ferries at European airports. They

:11:41. > :11:47.will arrive first thing in the morning. The chances of any trouble

:11:48. > :11:52.to model seen as a relatively low. It was a minority of Belgian fans

:11:53. > :11:55.that instigated this trouble but Humberside Police say they are ready

:11:56. > :11:59.for anything. They do not want to be seen to be over policing the event

:12:00. > :12:10.that say they have enough resources on hand should anything happen to

:12:11. > :12:15.guarantee everyone's safety. I met some of the Belgian fans in town

:12:16. > :12:24.today. Tomorrow night we will be at the stadium.

:12:25. > :12:29.The town of Goole is being turned into a ghetto by landlords who

:12:30. > :12:31.convert rooms in family homes into bed`sits. That's the claim from a

:12:32. > :12:34.leading councillor who says there needs to be a halt to similar

:12:35. > :12:37.developments in the future. Hundreds of people in Goole live in single

:12:38. > :12:40.rooms, but neighbours say they bring with them extra noise, rubbish and

:12:41. > :12:47.parking problems. Jill Archbold reports. In this residential street

:12:48. > :12:55.in Goole a number of homes are rented by the room. There are more

:12:56. > :12:59.than 100 in the town ` known as Houses in Multiple Occupation. On

:13:00. > :13:06.this street plans for one more ` and residents who describe these as

:13:07. > :13:06.family homes ` are lining up to object.

:13:07. > :13:20.CLIP. In planning documents To put nine people in the house is

:13:21. > :13:51.too many. CLIP. In planning documents

:13:52. > :13:54.In planning documents the developer says ` "it is the

:13:55. > :13:57.landlord's ultimate objective to be selective with the choice of tenants

:13:58. > :13:58.whilst providing good quality alternative essential housing for

:13:59. > :14:00.professional multiple occupancy tenants who are employed within the

:14:01. > :14:02.local community..." One local councillor says there are

:14:03. > :14:13.too many multi`tenancy properties. It is not good for anybody in the

:14:14. > :14:31.town when the town is in part being turned into a ghetto.

:14:32. > :14:33.too many multi`tenancy properties. Meanwhile in Lincoln the

:14:34. > :14:38.council may take steps to limit the number of multi`tenancy homes after

:14:39. > :14:40.1000 objectors signed a petition.

:14:41. > :14:44.Back in the East Riding, a decision is yet to be made over the plans for

:14:45. > :14:47.this house ` but when it comes to licensing such homes for tenancy,

:14:48. > :14:48.the council say they are working within legislation set by the

:14:49. > :15:23.Government. Government.

:15:24. > :15:25.Still ahead tonight: Theatre on a truck, the show on wheels that's

:15:26. > :15:34.touring rural Lincolnshire. And the headstones that are being

:15:35. > :15:43.restored. This view of the Humber Bridge was

:15:44. > :16:35.taken by Helen Parish. It looks like some might return next

:16:36. > :16:42.week. `summer might return. It will be a rainy start tomorrow but it

:16:43. > :16:46.will clear later. We will have a fine evening with sunshine and

:16:47. > :16:52.places. It will be dry through the evening and the first part of the

:16:53. > :16:56.night. We will see patchy rain which extends across all parts by dawn

:16:57. > :17:11.tomorrow morning but only a couple of millimetres. Temperatures will be

:17:12. > :17:28.13 or 14 degrees. High what time in Skegness will be half past eight in

:17:29. > :17:31.the morning. `` high water time. It will soon brighten up in the

:17:32. > :17:34.south`west with just the risk of a few showers in the West tomorrow

:17:35. > :17:43.evening. It will be a couple of degrees warmer than today with highs

:17:44. > :17:47.of 21 Celsius, very pleasant indeed. That is 17 degrees Fahrenheit. On

:17:48. > :17:52.Friday and Saturday a mixture of Sunny spells with occasional showers

:17:53. > :17:58.weather between those showers. It weather between those showers. It

:17:59. > :18:05.will be dry with sunshine on Sunday and we hope that someone will return

:18:06. > :18:26.as we head into Emily September across Yorkshire and East

:18:27. > :18:34.Lincolnshire. `` into early September.

:18:35. > :18:38.Work is under way to repair headstones across East Yorkshire and

:18:39. > :18:48.Lincolnshire which commemorate the lives of men who died in the First

:18:49. > :18:56.their lives in the Great War are given a proper memorial. Damaged and

:18:57. > :18:58.difficult to read, this headstone is one of more than

:18:59. > :19:00.50 at Gainsborough Cemetery with inscriptions commemorating men who

:19:01. > :19:09.died in the First World War. Many, like this one, are in a poor

:19:10. > :19:25.state of repair. state of repair.

:19:26. > :19:36.These out broken into pieces that stonemasons are still able repair

:19:37. > :19:40.them. It was in a very poor state and it was face down in position so

:19:41. > :19:45.we could not read the memorial and it was in 23 pieces to be a fax to

:19:46. > :19:54.pin it together and clean it so that we were able to read it. The project

:19:55. > :19:58.is helping local people rediscover their family history. This woman had

:19:59. > :20:06.no idea that her great uncle had died in the war. It is like finding

:20:07. > :20:11.a long lost brother that you did not know existed. I come from quite a

:20:12. > :20:16.large family and there are six of us and we are all very close so it is

:20:17. > :20:22.the fact that family is important. state of repair.

:20:23. > :20:26.The work in Gainsborough is just one of many restoration projects being

:20:27. > :20:29.carried out across East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire to mark

:20:30. > :20:31.the centenary of World War I. Memorials in North Ferriby and

:20:32. > :20:34.Bempton in East Yorkshire and Glentham and Wootton in Lincolnshire

:20:35. > :20:40.are among those under going repair. Lottery funding has provided

:20:41. > :20:42.?10,000 to carry out the Gainsborough restoration.

:20:43. > :20:44.Gainsborough does have its own war memorial, though there

:20:45. > :20:47.are no names inscribed on it. The only places men are commemorated

:20:48. > :20:49.in this their hometown is on headstones in the cemetery and

:20:50. > :21:05.that is why, say volunteers, this project is so important.

:21:06. > :21:25.Hull City manager Steve Bruce says the signing of England international

:21:26. > :21:28.The fee is believed to be around ?3

:21:29. > :21:29.million. He's the brother of former Hull City defender Andy

:21:30. > :21:39.Dawson. We are delighted to bring him here.

:21:40. > :21:46.It has been a long process but we are delighted to have them.

:21:47. > :21:49.Dawson. Scunthorpe United were knocked out

:21:50. > :21:52.of the Capital One Cup last night. The Iron lost 1`0 at home to

:21:53. > :21:55.Reading ` who are managed by their former boss Nigel Adkins. The draw

:21:56. > :22:02.for round three ` which will include Hull City ` takes place tonight.

:22:03. > :22:05.An arts group in Holbeach St Marks is performing a play on the back of

:22:06. > :22:08.a lorry. It's hoped by taking the theatre into parks and town centres

:22:09. > :22:11.of Lincolnshire it will get children and some adults watching plays and

:22:12. > :22:13.enjoying theatre for the first time. Here's our arts correspondent,

:22:14. > :22:20.Anne`Marie Tasker. This may look like any other lorry but take few

:22:21. > :22:23.steps backwards and you'll see it's been transformed

:22:24. > :22:29.into an open air theatre to host the very first production of

:22:30. > :22:38.a play called Fen Boy. This is the auditorium, a row

:22:39. > :23:00.Of deckchairs. You do not have too rely on the language to understand

:23:01. > :23:09.what is going on. I love it and it is really nice. We probably would

:23:10. > :23:23.not have gone to the theatre but we have enjoyed it. Around 200 people

:23:24. > :23:38.are watching this performance which has many more than if this had been

:23:39. > :23:42.performed in the theatre. I love the fight will be nothing here in 15

:23:43. > :24:11.minutes but it will be in the memory of the people.

:24:16. > :24:18.Withernsea's most famous daughter is being remembered in her home town.

:24:22. > :24:24.married to Sir Rex Harrison. But she died when she was just 33. Amanda

:24:25. > :24:43.Her career and life were cut short by leukaemia. As she remembered

:24:50. > :25:06.Not associated with this part of the world, no. This museum is dedicated

:25:07. > :25:12.to keeping her memory alive. She was in over 30 films. She starred with

:25:13. > :25:45.EU Brenner and Stanley Holloway and I really handle. ``Yul Brynner and

:26:04. > :26:04.is time for her extraordinary beauty and talent to be celebrated in her
