:00:00. > :00:00.September will settle down with Sony spells and it will get warmer --

:00:00. > :00:08.sunny spells. A story with a happy ending.

:00:09. > :00:10.Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North.

:00:11. > :00:17.Yorkshire ambulance staff walk out on strike again, as the row

:00:18. > :00:29.save frustration what is happening. We feel we are not listening to

:00:30. > :00:34.others. Calls for landlords to stop

:00:35. > :00:48.rubbish from building up The place is becoming unsightly and

:00:49. > :00:51.people have seen vermin, rats and mice.

:00:52. > :00:53.It is wanted as a tourist attraction in Hull.

:00:54. > :00:55.Now, a bidding war erupts over who gets HMS Illustrious.

:00:56. > :00:58.And putting the spa back in Woodhall Spa ` could this

:00:59. > :01:09.And I will be back with the full weather forecast later in the

:01:10. > :01:16.programme. There could be some good use.

:01:17. > :01:19.They are a small band of workers who have been in dispute

:01:20. > :01:22.with their bosses for almost two years and, this afternoon, some

:01:23. > :01:24.staff at the Yorkshire Ambulance Service walked out on strike again.

:01:25. > :01:27.At the heart of it is a row about working hours.

:01:28. > :01:30.The Yorkshire Ambulance Service now refuses to recognise

:01:31. > :01:35.their union and, with both sides refusing to budge,

:01:36. > :01:44.amid claims patients are being put at risk, can a solution be found?

:01:45. > :01:47.They provide a vital service, and one that most of us take

:01:48. > :01:52.But one ambulance worker's union claims staff in Yorkshire

:01:53. > :02:04.The members are frustrated and fatigued. They are at breaking point

:02:05. > :02:06.move. The dispute centres on giving

:02:07. > :02:08.more responsibility to emergency care assistants who Unite claim

:02:09. > :02:10.don't get enough training before Other claims include longer shifts

:02:11. > :02:14.And changes to shifts which Unite say could lead to staff working 10

:02:15. > :02:19.hours without a meal break It is a row that has now lasted 22 months

:02:20. > :02:23.and sparked several strikes. With both sides

:02:24. > :02:45.refusing to back down. Other unions have been able to talk

:02:46. > :02:55.and council strikes. Why have you not been able to do that. They are

:02:56. > :03:08.refusing to talk to us. We have left to with no avenue apart from this.

:03:09. > :03:16.It is thought about 120 ambulance staff across Yorkshire have walked

:03:17. > :03:21.out, out of 4500. The hospital says while they are worried about the

:03:22. > :03:26.impact on patient safety, they do have other plans in place.

:03:27. > :03:29.But this ambulance worker who wants to remian anonomous for fear of

:03:30. > :03:32.losing his job, says striking is the only way to voice concern about the

:03:33. > :03:44.It could be worrying that F a paramedic was called, they could get

:03:45. > :03:51.someone who barely had a first aid certificate.

:03:52. > :03:54.But at Hull Royal infirmary today some felt strike action was

:03:55. > :04:03.a step too far The mediator Acas has now stepped

:04:04. > :04:10.The mediator has now stepped in to try abrupt break the deadlock, but

:04:11. > :04:12.after two years of dispute, a swift end to the road seems increasingly

:04:13. > :04:19.unlikely. Management at the

:04:20. > :04:21.Yorkshire Ambulance Service dispute the union's figures about

:04:22. > :04:23.the number of people on strike. I asked Ian Brandwood

:04:24. > :04:42.from the service why they would not We were talking to them until about

:04:43. > :04:48.two years ago, but they were deviating eyes after they failed to

:04:49. > :04:55.conduct themselves properly last time. The unions see the door is

:04:56. > :05:00.opened and they want to talk. Why is your one closed? Because we have

:05:01. > :05:08.nothing to talk to them about any more. The reality as they represent

:05:09. > :05:12.a very small number of staff in the organisation. We recognise Unison,

:05:13. > :05:22.who represent the majority of our staff. You mention the numbers

:05:23. > :05:31.there, I believe about 100 out of 4000 staff were out on today. That

:05:32. > :05:40.figure is wrong. They would probably be about 40 people on strike, ten of

:05:41. > :05:48.which are on strike in the region here. Is it just a small disruptive

:05:49. > :05:54.minority? No, we value our staff members, but clearly those who are

:05:55. > :05:59.in Unite view we need to take strike action. It was purely around the

:06:00. > :06:10.derecognition of the Unite union. We do not think that is an issue. This

:06:11. > :06:15.number of people on strike, what is your message to them? Our message to

:06:16. > :06:18.them is simple. If they have grievances, talk to us and we will

:06:19. > :06:33.try and address them. Are the ambulance staff right

:06:34. > :06:36.to keep going on strike. Or do you back the managers who are

:06:37. > :06:39.refusing to talk to their union? Contact us in the

:06:40. > :07:09.following manner and let us know. The East Riding of Yorkshire Council

:07:10. > :07:12.today confirmed it is talking to Rotherham Council after it emerged

:07:13. > :07:15.one of its senior child protection officers previously worked there, at

:07:16. > :07:18.a time when hundreds of girls were Pam Allen who is now the Head

:07:19. > :07:22.of Children and Young People Support and Safeguarding Services at

:07:23. > :07:25.East Riding, was in a similar job What is the council saying about

:07:26. > :07:55.Pam Allen? I have we know that this report into

:07:56. > :08:02.Child exploitation came at a time when she was working there. In her

:08:03. > :08:07.previous role, East Riding Council refused to stay anything. We have

:08:08. > :08:22.issued two statements today. In a letter sent to the

:08:23. > :08:24.Chief Executive, he asks whether the council plans to

:08:25. > :08:27.review Ms Allen's suitability "If it is the case that she bears a

:08:28. > :08:31.serious level of responsibility for the situation that was allowed

:08:32. > :08:34.to develop in Rotherham, it is highly doubtful whether Ms Allen

:08:35. > :08:36.should be entrusted with a similar safeguarding role in the

:08:37. > :08:38.East Riding, Well, the council has issued

:08:39. > :08:56.two statements today. He asked whether the council is

:08:57. > :09:12.going to renew a look at her suitability. They said,

:09:13. > :09:18.the council said the statement was a response to his questions, but they

:09:19. > :09:25.do not appear to have answered everything that they had asked. We

:09:26. > :09:31.will keep you up`to`date with any developments on the story.

:09:32. > :09:34.Lincolnshire Police say they have arrested two girls and a boy

:09:35. > :09:37.in connection with the murder of a 42`year`old man in Spalding.

:09:38. > :09:39.The man was airlifted to hospital from Coronation

:09:40. > :09:42.He died from his injuries in the early hours of this morning.

:09:43. > :09:44.Four people have been injured, three of them seriously,

:09:45. > :09:47.in a road accident on the A158 at Wragby in Lincolnshire.

:09:48. > :09:49.The road has been closed for several hours

:09:50. > :09:52.The principal of the Thomas Ferens Academy in Hull has resigned

:09:53. > :09:55.Juliet Strang stepped down after figures showed only one

:09:56. > :09:57.in five of her pupils hit the government benchmark

:09:58. > :10:09.The Canadian Lancaster bomber flown to Lincolnshire to take part

:10:10. > :10:13.It landed safely in the north east this morning

:10:14. > :10:19.Work is beginning on a new multi`million pound building

:10:20. > :10:24.The site will provide accommodation, as well as training workshops,

:10:25. > :10:35.Private landlords are being urged to take responsibility for piles

:10:36. > :10:37.of rubbish left by their tenants in parts

:10:38. > :10:44.Residents have complained about houses with so much rubbish outside

:10:45. > :10:48.One of the city MPs says landlords need to be good neighbours

:10:49. > :10:52.and take responsibility and it is urging the council to use

:10:53. > :11:13.a rundown, unsightly and he's in squalid. This is some of the words

:11:14. > :11:18.used to describe the streets, home to a high population of students.

:11:19. > :11:28.She says the problem is getting worse. They do not lose deposits are

:11:29. > :11:33.bonds, so they have nothing to lose. At Christmas time, they put all the

:11:34. > :11:41.rubbish in the front. It was horrendous. You could tell it had

:11:42. > :11:46.been there for months. There was a terrible smell. There was a gap

:11:47. > :11:53.between the two houses and a gap between the two houses between them.

:11:54. > :11:57.I could not even get into the letterbox. The council said it is

:11:58. > :12:04.working to educate residents, to take enforcement action also we are

:12:05. > :12:08.relevant. They also want to see how the powers could be strengthened. I

:12:09. > :12:16.want to see how the powers could be strengthened. I wanted to make sure

:12:17. > :12:22.tenants put rubbish out, keep premises clean and tidy and that

:12:23. > :12:28.they are an asset to the city. One local letting agent may be to punish

:12:29. > :12:37.bad landlords. That is the only way we can go forward. Something has to

:12:38. > :12:43.be done. If it is not tidied up, then you have to impose a fine. At a

:12:44. > :12:49.property owned by Christine, new students have just moved in. In our

:12:50. > :12:54.experience, it is not always practical for them to clean up after

:12:55. > :12:58.the tenants. If I have found they have left a load of rubbish, they

:12:59. > :13:08.cannot just buy get up and take it to the tip. But I am penalised. What

:13:09. > :13:09.do we do, leave it at the house? Residency it is not the first time

:13:10. > :13:13.they have complained, but they hope they have complained, but they hope

:13:14. > :13:26.the renewed focus of the problem will lead to some improvements.

:13:27. > :13:29.People have already been telling us about rubbish on West Parade

:13:30. > :13:36.in Lincoln and Beverley Road in Hull, on our Facebook page.

:13:37. > :13:38.Have you seen rubbish dumped where you live

:13:39. > :13:45.Still ahead tonight ` there is heartbreak for Hull City fans,

:13:46. > :13:50.as the Tigers' European dream comes to an early end.

:13:51. > :13:54.We take a special look at the history of this Lincolnshire

:13:55. > :14:09.landmark and ask could it be brought back to life?

:14:10. > :14:17.This photo of Cleethorpes was taken by Wayne Porter.

:14:18. > :14:26.Please keep your photographs coming in. Thank you very much for that

:14:27. > :14:44.one. We have had issues with Paul looking green over the past couple

:14:45. > :14:47.of nights. Maybe I should replace him permanently! I think a few

:14:48. > :14:57.people would be quite happy with that!

:14:58. > :15:08.It looks quite nice over the weekend. An improvement, with the

:15:09. > :15:14.return of summer. Over the weekend, it is looking quite decent. Sunny

:15:15. > :15:21.spells with the odd isolated shower. It should stay largely dry on

:15:22. > :15:26.Sunday. It may just be interrupted for a little foil by this weather

:15:27. > :15:32.front pushing and overnight on Sunday into Monday. There have been

:15:33. > :15:37.some showers around this afternoon. Most of the showers on the coast.

:15:38. > :15:48.Through the next couple of hours, they will tend to die up die out.

:15:49. > :15:57.Overnight temperatures 12`15 Celsius.

:15:58. > :16:06.Tomorrow, it is looking like a pretty decently. There could be the

:16:07. > :16:11.odd shower, but generally drier and brighter than today. There will be

:16:12. > :16:16.some pleasant spells of sunshine. It will not be quite as breezy, so

:16:17. > :16:28.should feel a bit more pleasant. Temperatures average for the time of

:16:29. > :16:32.year. 19`20 Celsius. A fine start to the day on Sunday. If anything, a

:16:33. > :16:38.bit more clouds developing during the course of the day. Wendy with

:16:39. > :16:41.patches of rain overnight into Monday. Settling down and warming up

:16:42. > :16:55.on Monday. When I say read, you forecasters and

:16:56. > :17:02.a bit touchy about that. It is all lot here!

:17:03. > :17:05.It has been suggested that Hull is among only three bidders being

:17:06. > :17:07.considered to rehome the decommissioned aircraft carrier,

:17:08. > :17:11.Hull City Council wants to bring the warship to the city as a visitor

:17:12. > :17:14.attraction for its year as City of Culture in 2017, but some residents

:17:15. > :17:28.say they are concerned about having it moored outside their homes.

:17:29. > :17:34.Our study a ceremony to officially enter a naval career yesterday, a

:17:35. > :17:44.new HMS Illustrious home is now being sought for. The council are

:17:45. > :17:52.hoping this could be yet. But some residents are worried. They were

:17:53. > :18:01.complaints about the tidal tribune Neptune which used to be here. There

:18:02. > :18:07.was a noise that the residents complained about. The jetty for the

:18:08. > :18:14.illustrious would be a lot bigger. Obviously, the ship is also a lot

:18:15. > :18:22.bigger. And its 32 years at sea, illustrious served at war and in

:18:23. > :18:28.natural disasters, helping out. It weighs 22,000 tonnes and the council

:18:29. > :18:35.is not giving an idea how much it could be bought for. It is estimated

:18:36. > :18:39.to be worth ?10 million and scope. The Ministry of Defence says that is

:18:40. > :18:47.not an option and must be in the United Kingdom. The local MP wants

:18:48. > :18:50.it to stay here. I have written to the Prime Minister and said it

:18:51. > :18:54.should not go to the scrap yard by default. If you want to keep the

:18:55. > :19:00.scrap yard by default. If you want to keep me here, you it. We have

:19:01. > :19:05.just one of these. The council will not reveal details of the bed. They

:19:06. > :19:10.have not said how will be paid for, but they are confident funding could

:19:11. > :19:13.be found. The Ministry of Defence will not see who else is in the

:19:14. > :19:21.running, although it did confirm the error of three bids to rehouse the

:19:22. > :19:26.ship. The council see if they are successful, residents will be fully

:19:27. > :19:30.consulted. It is believed they could be weeks rather than months before

:19:31. > :19:38.the future home for this famous warship could be chosen. I wonder

:19:39. > :19:41.where the other two places are. And would you welcome at?

:19:42. > :19:44.People living in parts of Lincolnshire say they should have

:19:45. > :19:46.a greater say in setting speed limits on the county's roads.

:19:47. > :19:50.At the moment, a formula is used to determine how fast cars can travel,

:19:51. > :19:53.but campaigners say the authorities do not always get a true picture

:19:54. > :20:00.Bob says, "It's not about reducing speed limits, it's more about

:20:01. > :20:06.There are not enough police to stop the speeders."

:20:07. > :20:09.Phillip says, "If I drive through any of these villages at 30mph,

:20:10. > :20:12.I am aggressively tailgated by people who don't see any reason

:20:13. > :20:18.And Patty says, "There is no point in reducing speed limits

:20:19. > :20:32.Thank you very much for all of your comments, throughout this week.

:20:33. > :20:33.Hull City's historic, but short`lived,

:20:34. > :20:37.They scored twice against Lokeren last night, but it was not enough.

:20:38. > :20:39.On the streets of Hull, fans of both sides mingled

:20:40. > :20:42.peacefully, in contrast to the violence in Belgium last week.

:20:43. > :21:01.They had filled the streets with their yellow and black. The fans

:21:02. > :21:05.from Belgium enjoyed the occasion. They are now going home after

:21:06. > :21:15.breaking the amber parts of whole city. The Tigers went into the match

:21:16. > :21:21.knowing they had to overcome a one nil defeat in Belgium. They got a

:21:22. > :21:26.dream start, with the lead after just six minutes. It all went wrong

:21:27. > :21:35.in the second half. This away goal which proved decisive. Despite them

:21:36. > :21:41.winning 2`1 on the night, and taking the lead from the penalty spot. With

:21:42. > :21:51.20 minutes remaining, the striker was sent off for this challenge. The

:21:52. > :21:59.decision incensed the supporters, but the manager was disappointed

:22:00. > :22:03.with the performance. I was disappointed. We gave the ball away

:22:04. > :22:10.far too cheaply in good areas. For five players did not get to the

:22:11. > :22:14.were terrible. I have not seen as were terrible. I have not seen as

:22:15. > :22:27.playing so badly. I am absolutely gutted. A great game ruined by an

:22:28. > :22:33.incompetent referee. We will certainly follow the games that they

:22:34. > :22:37.play this season. There was a large police presence, following a large

:22:38. > :22:43.amount of trouble caused by a minority of Belgian fans during the

:22:44. > :22:51.first leg. All ended peacefully as the dream in Europe came to an end.

:22:52. > :22:53.Steve Bruce says the Tigers' focus is on the Premier League.

:22:54. > :22:55.They are away to Aston Villa on Sunday.

:22:56. > :22:57.Radio Humberside with the commentary from 1.30.

:22:58. > :22:59.Tomorrow afternoon, on the same station on FM, you can

:23:00. > :23:03.On AM, on digital and the BBC sport website,

:23:04. > :23:09.And on Radio Lincolnshire, you can hear Lincoln's home game

:23:10. > :23:17.Phil Norton is at the KC Stadium, with news of

:23:18. > :23:30.Yes, a busy 24 hours here at the KC Stadium and this is one

:23:31. > :23:33.of those nights that it feels like the whole city looks forward to.

:23:34. > :23:36.It is only really Hull KR that have anything to play for,

:23:37. > :23:41.It is the final derby game of the season and the Robins still

:23:42. > :23:43.have a chance of making it into the Super League play`offs.

:23:44. > :23:47.Hull KR have also had a very good derby record recently.

:23:48. > :23:50.They have already beaten their West Hull rivals twice this season,

:23:51. > :23:54.including the 38`24 win at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium

:23:55. > :23:56.during the Magic Weekend back in May.

:23:57. > :24:05.No team has managed a clean sweep of victories in a Super League season,

:24:06. > :24:08.so tha is something Hull KR's Chris Chester will be aiming for here,

:24:09. > :24:17.And you can hear full commentary of the derby on BBC Radio Humberside.

:24:18. > :24:46.Beach huts along the coast could no of new orders. The council say they

:24:47. > :24:51.have already had interest from some organisations looking to take over.

:24:52. > :24:54.The benefits of the Spa water in Woodhall Spa were discovered

:24:55. > :24:57.by accident in the 1800s, but it has never become a draw

:24:58. > :24:59.for tourists, like the waters of Harrogate and Bath.

:25:00. > :25:01.It is safe to bathe in, but the original Spa Baths

:25:02. > :25:04.in the Lincolnshire village have been boarded`up for many years.

:25:05. > :25:11.So, could the Spa be brought back to life?

:25:12. > :25:19.People still enjoy coming to the spanner to take a depth. As the name

:25:20. > :25:24.suggests, the village is a long history with water.

:25:25. > :25:31.The spanner are shy came by accident, when Maynor searching for

:25:32. > :25:43.call accidentally hit on a water spout. The story goes that some

:25:44. > :25:48.local people drank the water and were cured of the illness. A

:25:49. > :25:54.bathhouse in a tail were built and people flocked to taste the water.

:25:55. > :26:03.Highly concentrated sea water, is the best way to describe it. I would

:26:04. > :26:08.not recommend you drink it on a regular basis. A lot of people dead.

:26:09. > :26:13.You would not find many people drinking it now, but ten years ago,

:26:14. > :26:20.attempts were made to use it. In 2004, the golfer till you try to

:26:21. > :26:27.pump it up into its own spanner. At the moment, the pump is broken. They

:26:28. > :26:32.cannot use the original waters at the moment. People say they enjoy

:26:33. > :26:37.the experience. It is very difficult to make medical claims, because you

:26:38. > :26:44.cannot substantiate it, but we feel the minerals help people. The

:26:45. > :26:52.original bathhouse is up for sale and the water is still under there.

:26:53. > :26:55.I am of the Shotley myself. Letters have a cap of the national

:26:56. > :27:01.headlines. The UK's terror threat level is

:27:02. > :27:04.raised to severe, meaning an attack Yorkshire ambulance staff walk

:27:05. > :27:07.out on strike again, as the row And tomorrow's weather `

:27:08. > :27:10.some cloud in places and sunny spells, too, with just

:27:11. > :27:22.the occasional shower expected. Talking about the ambulance

:27:23. > :27:27.straight, Newell says all public services should have a no strike

:27:28. > :27:35.agreement. But Emily says, good luck to the paramedics getting what they

:27:36. > :27:40.want. It says I fully support them going on strike. Like the police and

:27:41. > :27:46.Fire Service, these people are always undervalued. Thank you for

:27:47. > :27:48.all your responses this week. Have a good weekend.
