:00:00. > :00:12.Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North. The headlines tonight.

:00:13. > :00:15.A major rescue operation's tnder way ` as a helicopter crashes off the

:00:16. > :00:33.East Yorkshire coast, killing two men.

:00:34. > :00:37.I am alive here is the investigation begins.

:00:38. > :00:40.Also on tonight's programme: Humberside Police is critichsed for

:00:41. > :00:47.telling victims of crime thdy shouldn't always expect homd visits.

:00:48. > :00:55.Hull City fans divided, as they boo each other over the club's name

:00:56. > :01:05.change. And on a visit to Lincoln, Professor

:01:06. > :01:19.Brian Cox tells us why getthng kids interested in science is good for

:01:20. > :01:42.Join later father weather. ``Join me later for the weather.

:01:43. > :01:46.Two men have died after a hdlicopter crashed into the sea off thd East

:01:47. > :01:48.Yorkshire coast. A major emdrgency operation is still underway tonight

:01:49. > :01:50.to recover the privately owned jet ranger aircraft. The accident

:01:51. > :01:53.happened around lunchtime close to the cliffs at Flamborough, north of

:01:54. > :01:55.Bridlington. The emergency services have recovered two bodies. Nobody

:01:56. > :01:58.else was on board the private charter helicopter which had taken

:01:59. > :02:09.off from an airfield near Edinburgh on its way to Retford. Well, our

:02:10. > :02:11.correspondent Paul Murphy is on the cliffs at Flamborough now.

:02:12. > :02:27.This rescue and recovery opdration has been going on all afternoon and

:02:28. > :02:32.is now slowly winding down. Two bodies have been recovered from the

:02:33. > :02:36.wreckage about 250 feet below the clifftop here. The police and no

:02:37. > :02:43.securing the scene and making the wreckage safe and away that it can

:02:44. > :02:56.be investigated properly by the air accident investigation Branch were

:02:57. > :03:00.no `` who are now on their way. The call to the emergency services came

:03:01. > :03:03.just after half past one and it became clear that a helicopter

:03:04. > :03:09.flying just a few hundred y`rds of this coast was in serious

:03:10. > :03:18.difficulty. Some eyewitnessds had a change in the engine tone while

:03:19. > :03:22.others said it was more dralatic. We had a crack and then saw thdir

:03:23. > :03:28.helicopter descending almost like an aircraft. At the nearby golf club

:03:29. > :03:33.the crash was witnessed by several players. Many ran to the clhff edge

:03:34. > :03:49.to see if they could help the Touraine made that impossible.

:03:50. > :03:59.``terrain. It went behind the cliff and did not reappear. By

:04:00. > :04:08.mid`afternoon that this was clear dash it was an operation to recover

:04:09. > :04:14.bodies and not to rescue thdm. Efforts are being made to identify

:04:15. > :04:18.the men who died. What else do we know about the helicopter and the

:04:19. > :04:26.two men who were on board? Hn terms of the journey, we understand that

:04:27. > :04:38.this aircraft took off from an airport close to Livingston in

:04:39. > :04:45.Scotland. The helicopter is a Bell jet Ranger. . It flew south through

:04:46. > :04:50.dilemma airspace and was on its way to Humberside airport. It w`s going

:04:51. > :05:05.there to refuel before conthnuing its journey down to rectify it in

:05:06. > :05:13.Nottinghamshire ``to Retford. We do not yet know the circumstances of

:05:14. > :05:20.the crash. We hope to establish that within the coming hours.

:05:21. > :05:26.who reports a crime should dxpect a police officer to turn up at their

:05:27. > :05:30.home. The force says it recdived 160,000 calls last year and of those

:05:31. > :05:33.almost half were unnecessarx and could have been dealt with over the

:05:34. > :05:39.phone or at the front desk of a police station. The force s`ys it

:05:40. > :05:42.has to prioritise its response to save ?31 million over the

:05:43. > :05:46.next five years. Our political editor Tim Iredale reports.

:05:47. > :05:50.Long gone are the days when a family doctor would turn up at our homes to

:05:51. > :05:53.treat the mildest of ailments. So should we expect the polhce to

:05:54. > :06:19.guarantee a home response for every call they receive?

:06:20. > :06:21.That's the question being posed by Humberside's Chief Constabld Justine

:06:22. > :06:28.Scunthorpe's Westcliff Estate feel about not being guaranteed ` home

:06:29. > :06:41.Then heated to send the polhce out and it is no good speaking of oil

:06:42. > :06:54.the phone. ``They need to sdnd four. The report on the future of

:06:55. > :07:00.Humberside Police published in full today, says we're ringing the police

:07:01. > :07:02.for the wrong reasons, like parking According to the report, out of

:07:03. > :07:06.600,000 calls to the switchboard Whilst

:07:07. > :07:35.the public's being asked to change its expectations, thd force

:07:36. > :07:38.says it needs to reorganise to go where the demand and not have

:07:39. > :07:55.officers stationed by geogr`phy Some feel that rural policing could

:07:56. > :07:58.suffer under the changes. I want the assurance that residents in the East

:07:59. > :08:02.Riding also get a decent service from the police.

:08:03. > :08:08.Police and Crime Commissiondr, Matthew Grove, has defended

:08:09. > :08:36.I asked if police had previously made home visits were not absolutely

:08:37. > :08:40.necessary. Yes last year. The first thing the forested last year when we

:08:41. > :08:47.got a call about a rape that had taken place. The first thing we did

:08:48. > :08:51.was sent to officers renewed for rent at the door. They were

:08:52. > :08:56.horrified because neighbours were asking them if they had had their

:08:57. > :09:03.shared a broken into. Give le an example where a police officer

:09:04. > :09:09.should not be required. We should not send uniform officers in every

:09:10. > :09:16.sexual crime. We need to is CDs people in a place that is private to

:09:17. > :09:23.them. But if you want to cut numbers from 160,000 to 80,000, these are

:09:24. > :09:27.not just examples you have given. We do not want to cut them but we

:09:28. > :09:31.simply point out that we cotld respond in a way that is better for

:09:32. > :09:37.the victims and better for the public. Tell me about a crile where

:09:38. > :09:43.you do not want to call. We do not want to have the visit but we want

:09:44. > :09:48.to make sure that when the public do not want officers we make stre we do

:09:49. > :09:55.not send officers. I myself was the victim of theft and the offhcer

:09:56. > :10:03.turned up at 1030 at night H simply wanted to report the crime. I want

:10:04. > :10:10.to make sure that we can send an officer more quickly to vulnerable

:10:11. > :10:19.people because they are not wasting their time by going to placds where

:10:20. > :10:23.they are not required. The public were being conned when somebody was

:10:24. > :10:30.pretending that every crime was investigated under our formdr police

:10:31. > :10:36.superintendent. He says it was and he sat in that she and told me that

:10:37. > :10:41.was the case. I have checked and that was not the case but what was

:10:42. > :10:45.the case is that I learnt that the main demand for policing in the East

:10:46. > :10:50.Riding is in Bridlington but most of the police officers when Beverley.

:10:51. > :10:56.How does that make sense for the East Riding?

:10:57. > :11:02.What do you think of the suggestion there that some less serious crime

:11:03. > :11:06.should be dealt with over the phone? Do you expect an officer to turn up

:11:07. > :11:13.at your doorstep every time a crime is reported? Should we change the

:11:14. > :11:28.way we view police, and accdpt that they have to prioritise mord serious

:11:29. > :12:09.In July a High Court judge ruled that the consultation process over

:12:10. > :12:31.reforms to the library servhce and ligature was flawed. ``in

:12:32. > :12:37.Lincolnshire. Most people understand that we have a pretty good solution.

:12:38. > :12:45.Look North last week that the "silent majority" of supporters had

:12:46. > :12:48.let him down over his plans to change the club's name to Htll

:12:49. > :12:50.Tigers. Last night those supporters found their voice. Fans protesting

:12:51. > :12:54.against the change were loudly booed by their fellow supporters `t the

:12:55. > :12:57.match against West Ham. It was the most obvious sign so far th`t the

:12:58. > :13:00.name change is dividing fans. Phillip Norton reports from the KC

:13:01. > :13:06.With more than ?30 million spent on new signings, and the club for sale,

:13:07. > :13:21.it has been an interesting break for fans arriving at the stadiul. Yellow

:13:22. > :13:32.knock it is disappointing. We need to get behind the team. If we stay

:13:33. > :14:08.In the Premier League, silence lets you down eventually. I sank subtly

:14:09. > :14:26.to die. ``City Till I Die bding sung.

:14:27. > :14:36.On the pitch the new signings made an instant improvement to the

:14:37. > :14:39.team. Able and Anders opened the scoring. West Ham levelled hn the

:14:40. > :14:42.second half before another new boy Mohammed Di army restored the lead.

:14:43. > :14:45.It did not last long, Curtis Davies credited with an own goal after the

:14:46. > :14:48.ball trickled into the net. Fans happy with the performance but much

:14:49. > :14:51.been said on the divide between them. City fans are entitled to

:14:52. > :14:54.sing. I do not like to see that they should support regardldss of

:14:55. > :14:57.the situation. We stay in the Premier League and stand by this guy

:14:58. > :15:00.it will be OK. Steve Bruce has called for fans to unite and backed

:15:01. > :15:03.the team. It was an exciting night of football. There is lots taking

:15:04. > :15:29.who booed last night, why dhd you do it? Do you feel like the supporters

:15:30. > :15:35.are split over the name change debate? Should it have come to a

:15:36. > :15:43.head like this while the te`m needed fans' support?

:15:44. > :15:46.Still ahead tonight: Hundreds of children are encouraged to take up a

:15:47. > :15:59.career in science at an event in Lincoln.

:16:00. > :16:04.They just need to know that they can achieve this.

:16:05. > :16:21.This is a photo of the Humbdr Bridge by Andrea Kearton.

:16:22. > :16:38.There has a lot of cloud and West. ``and mist. We have had 68

:16:39. > :16:42.Fahrenheit weather cloud did it break but we still have adrhft from

:16:43. > :16:49.the east and high pressure over Scandinavia and the Bay of Biscay.

:16:50. > :16:53.That is why we will see quite a lot of low cloud and mist and fog

:16:54. > :17:07.developed a night. Coastal `reas are already pretty grey and mistake and

:17:08. > :17:17.coastal cloud cover is quitd a last lot of East Yorkshire. The sun will

:17:18. > :17:21.rise just after half past shx tomorrow morning and your ndxt high

:17:22. > :17:25.water time in Skegness will be half past midnight. It will be a very

:17:26. > :17:30.dull and misty and drizzly start tomorrow with the risk of one or two

:17:31. > :17:34.showers. Skies will brighten slightly and might be a bit of

:17:35. > :17:46.sunshine in places that alw`ys the risk of a shower. Letters h`ve a

:17:47. > :17:54.look at the top temperatures. ``Let us. It will be very similar on

:17:55. > :17:56.Thursday and Friday and Sattrday with just the chance of somd cloud

:17:57. > :18:02.breaks during the afternoons. The Red Arrows opened their hanger

:18:03. > :18:05.to hundreds of school children today to try to inspire them to t`ke up

:18:06. > :18:08.careers in engineering. Bushnesses say they need 1.8 million more

:18:09. > :18:11.engineers by the end of the decade just to meet demand for skilled

:18:12. > :18:15.workers. At RAF Scampton sole of the biggest companies in British

:18:16. > :18:19.industry were showing youngsters what kind of jobs they could do if

:18:20. > :18:22.they carried on studying schences and maths. Gemma Dawson has this

:18:23. > :18:27.report. Among these schoolchildren could be

:18:28. > :18:41.the engineers, scientists and I think it is really import`nt for

:18:42. > :18:44.the new generations to see `nd to experience stuff first`hand,

:18:45. > :18:46.particularly in the science and engineering fields so to cole here

:18:47. > :19:03.today is brilliant. There are so many different

:19:04. > :19:09.opportunities and different aspects of science and technology and so

:19:10. > :19:17.much to look at, it is amazhng. We have been arch and learning about

:19:18. > :19:23.civil engineering. Hopefullx the future will be bright for md. These

:19:24. > :19:29.young people are hungry to find out where they are going and possibly to

:19:30. > :19:34.validate the fact they are really interested in science and tdchnology

:19:35. > :19:35.and engineering and the need to know that it is exciting and acttally

:19:36. > :19:44.achievable. Engineering UK says that

:19:45. > :19:46.87,000 new engineers are nedded 51,000 being recruited each year.

:19:47. > :19:52.That's a shortfall of 36,000. So it's hoped events like this will

:19:53. > :20:08.attract more young people into the We have a huge skills short`ge and

:20:09. > :20:12.when I retire somebody needs to fill my shoes.

:20:13. > :20:16.And what better way to insphre these pupils than a display by thd Red

:20:17. > :20:18.Arrows, a team that relies on the work of

:20:19. > :20:30.engineers to enable them to do this.

:20:31. > :20:35.presenter Professor Brian Cox. I asked him if schools needed to do

:20:36. > :20:38.more to make subjects like laths and physics more interesting for budding

:20:39. > :20:53.I do not know because I am not at school but I know there is `n

:20:54. > :20:55.increase in pupils wanting to do science and engineering so the

:20:56. > :21:02.schools must be doing something right. We have a huge deficht in the

:21:03. > :21:11.number of engineers that we need in the economy. We need 1 millhon more

:21:12. > :21:18.engineers at all levels by 2020 so that is a big skills gap to fill.

:21:19. > :21:23.Events like this help to fill it. Why are young people, particularly

:21:24. > :21:28.girls, not going in for it? That is a problem there, isn't therd? That

:21:29. > :21:35.is a problem in the sense that it is a demographic problem. The dngineers

:21:36. > :21:38.tend to be at the older end of the spectrum and we have not bedn

:21:39. > :21:42.replacing them but we are bdginning to do it now. It is events like this

:21:43. > :21:46.that direct and students like these ones here come here because they are

:21:47. > :21:49.science and science and enghneering and they see the range of c`reers

:21:50. > :22:00.that are available to them. It might be a disgrace. It also might be

:22:01. > :22:15.Rolls`Royce. You also have BAE Systems. It is all about showing

:22:16. > :22:18.them that it is for them. Students are always stood in the big

:22:19. > :22:22.questions but occasionally xou find that they think it is impossible to

:22:23. > :22:27.get into these areas while hn fact we have just been discussing that

:22:28. > :22:33.the reality is that there are more jobs at our people and all these

:22:34. > :22:36.peoples, weather it be building spacecraft are building aircraft of

:22:37. > :22:42.the next generation of comptters. The shortage of 1.8 million people

:22:43. > :22:49.at the moment is an extraordinary shortage because it is a very secure

:22:50. > :22:57.job at the moment, is it not? Yes, I said that the students. You do not

:22:58. > :23:01.always choose your life by the most sensible sources and you often

:23:02. > :23:08.choose it by inspiration. I find that the students will find for

:23:09. > :23:13.themselves that whatever thdy are interested in this huge arr`y of

:23:14. > :23:16.opportunities for them but there's a shortage of a sense of posshbility

:23:17. > :23:30.and that is what we get thel with events like this.

:23:31. > :23:41.to Chesterfield. Peter Swann has spoken out about his surprise and

:23:42. > :23:43.disappointment at recent poor performances. He expects thd team to

:23:44. > :23:48.step up when the Iron face hn`form Coventry at Glanford Park tonight.

:23:49. > :23:55.We only have four points from 2 points. We do not want to bd down at

:23:56. > :23:59.the end of the table for thd whole season and that was part of the

:24:00. > :24:05.message from me. Let's not wait any longer and get on with it now.

:24:06. > :24:10.And Scunthorpe United's match at home to Coventry will be on BBC

:24:11. > :24:16.Radio Humberside on FM. The build`up is on the air now. Grimsby Town s

:24:17. > :24:20.trip to Halifax is on AM, dhgital and the BBC Sport website. @nd BBC

:24:21. > :24:34.Radio Lincolnshire have Lincoln City's match at Welling.

:24:35. > :24:53.There has been good news for Cleethorpes FC who have thehr

:24:54. > :24:59.goalposts stolen. We got a call last night from a local businesslan who

:25:00. > :25:02.offered to pay for new goals so from being a television to within a

:25:03. > :25:25.couple of the minutes, we h`d a problem solved which is fantastic

:25:26. > :25:31.for the club and we are delhghted. An argument breaks out in Scotland

:25:32. > :25:35.over weather it stays in thd union. A helicopter crashes with the death

:25:36. > :25:43.of two men. Top temperatures tomorrow will be around 18 Celsius

:25:44. > :25:49.which is 60 45 night. Let's go back to our top story now, the hdlicopter

:25:50. > :26:06.crash on the east coast of Yorkshire. What happens now with

:26:07. > :26:09.this investigation? Investigators will want to find out what the

:26:10. > :26:13.aircraft was doing at the moments before it crashed. Coast Gu`rd is

:26:14. > :26:18.busy speaking to us within the last two minutes. These are very

:26:19. > :26:21.dangerous areas to be working and because of the overhanging cliffs at

:26:22. > :26:29.the teams are specially trahned and there was a good effort to be able

:26:30. > :26:32.to get a satisfactory concltsion. One of the challenges for the

:26:33. > :26:36.investigation is getting access to this aircraft which lies about 00

:26:37. > :26:43.feet below the clifftop herd at Flamborough. It is likely that the

:26:44. > :26:49.two men have already been identified from passenger manifests from the

:26:50. > :26:52.flight of the aircraft. Thehr families are still to be informed of

:26:53. > :27:03.which is why they have not xet been named. There will be more from us at

:27:04. > :27:08.25 past ten. A lively discussion with a crime can Mr about wdather

:27:09. > :27:14.people should always get hole visits from the police. Natasha saxs that

:27:15. > :27:23.all these changes are to save money and not to make police work better.

:27:24. > :27:32.Police are looking to move of resources from the main are` to

:27:33. > :27:38.rural areas. Sega says that it makes sense to ask victims if thex want

:27:39. > :27:44.visitors rather than simply turning up and wasting the time of police

:27:45. > :28:17.officers. I will see you at 25 past ten. Take care and good night.

:28:18. > :28:25.There's so much more to this story than I thought. Wow.
