:00:00. > :00:00.goodbye from me and on BBC One, we now join the BBC's news teams where

:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North.

:00:07. > :00:15.The power station accused of harming the environment while

:00:16. > :00:25.We deal with pellet produces the deal with biomass from areas which

:00:26. > :00:27.are not protected. Seven people

:00:28. > :00:29.from Lincolnshire are arrested in an Despite one of the goals

:00:30. > :00:37.of the weekend, Hull City throw away The country's favourite corner shop

:00:38. > :00:40.opens its doors again, And I will be back with the week

:00:41. > :00:54.ahead forecast. It's one

:00:55. > :00:56.of the biggest power stations in Europe providing electricity to

:00:57. > :00:59.more than five million homes. But the Yorkshire power station Drax

:01:00. > :01:03.is being accused of causing environmental damage as it tries to

:01:04. > :01:12.produce 'greener' electricity. It's converting part

:01:13. > :01:14.of its operation from burning coal But some campaigners say

:01:15. > :01:17.it's damaging woodland. Here's our Environment

:01:18. > :01:32.Correspondent Paul Murphy. Is one of the biggest coal burning

:01:33. > :01:37.power stations in Europe, it is a big polluter. But it is going to

:01:38. > :01:43.change. It is hoping to redtce the amount of carbon dioxide it omits.

:01:44. > :01:50.These pellets come from fordsts that regrow. They can reabsorb the carbon

:01:51. > :01:57.dioxide. What biomass does ht turns us into a renewable power station.

:01:58. > :02:06.It preserves the jobs in Yorkshire, and it is dot`mac the biomass is

:02:07. > :02:13.shipped from the United States. Drax says that it uses trees which are

:02:14. > :02:17.not good enough for furniture, construction, and it ensures that

:02:18. > :02:21.the trees are regrowing. But some question the wisdom of burnhng trees

:02:22. > :02:25.in the first place. When yot burn it, CO2 go straight up the chimney

:02:26. > :02:28.and into the atmosphere. For a long time, we have been told that we

:02:29. > :02:35.should not worry, because the forests will regrow. But it is

:02:36. > :02:40.common sense that trees takd a bit of time to regrow. They can take

:02:41. > :02:44.decades to neutralise the CO2 that has been put back into the

:02:45. > :02:49.atmosphere. There are furthdr concerns. Environmental ``

:02:50. > :02:53.environment list in the United States say that some of the trees

:02:54. > :03:03.are from sensitive habitats. The biomass industry want you to see an

:03:04. > :03:10.artificial planted Pond Plantation. They do not want you to seek a

:03:11. > :03:15.forest like these, in part because anyone can look around here and see

:03:16. > :03:20.that there is a lot that wotld be lost if these were cut and burned

:03:21. > :03:28.for fuel. Drax says that all trees are very well policed. We whll only

:03:29. > :03:37.do with pellet produces frol areas which are not protected, not define

:03:38. > :03:41.a special habitats. The company is convinced that biomass is bdtter

:03:42. > :03:45.than coal for the environment. Allen we are delivering 80% savings, so it

:03:46. > :03:52.is the low carbon fuel. That is why it's good few of us. The government

:03:53. > :03:55.is using millions of pounds of taxpayers money to subsidisd the

:03:56. > :04:00.conversion, but despite the concerns, the Minister declhned our

:04:01. > :04:03.invitation for interview. Well our correspondent Paul Murphy

:04:04. > :04:05.joins me now, live from Drax. Paul, we've heard Drax deny claims

:04:06. > :04:08.about harming the environment, how does the company make stre it's

:04:09. > :04:20.producing more environmentally It tells us that the responsible

:04:21. > :04:25.sourcing of sustainable biolass is at the very heart of what it does.

:04:26. > :04:29.It has to be, because that hs the basis on what the government

:04:30. > :04:35.subsidises it. From next April, they are focusing the mind of thd biomass

:04:36. > :04:38.industry by introducing a whole raft of tougher measures to ensure the

:04:39. > :04:44.trees are coming from the rhght place, and the trees are replanted

:04:45. > :04:51.to replace the trees that are cut down. But the challenge of dnforcing

:04:52. > :04:54.any policy is that these pellets are being sourced 4000 miles aw`y in a

:04:55. > :05:02.different country, with different laws and different regulatory

:05:03. > :05:05.environments. It is difficult for Drax to ensure all the time that

:05:06. > :05:08.what it is getting here is absolutely sustainable, and it has

:05:09. > :05:09.come from a safe source, if you like.

:05:10. > :05:12.And you can see a longer report about this on tonight's inshde Out

:05:13. > :05:24.We would like to hear from xou on this story. Do you think thdre is a

:05:25. > :05:42.better way of producing electricity? Thousands of pounds are pledged

:05:43. > :05:46.for an award winning dog brdeder after all her animals are khlled

:05:47. > :05:54.in a fire. Seven people from Lincolnshhre

:05:55. > :05:58.have been arrested as part of an Lincolnshire Police, working with

:05:59. > :06:01.the National Crime Agency and the International Red Cross executed

:06:02. > :06:04.arrest warrants at five loc`tions in and around Lincoln today, including

:06:05. > :06:06.Drinsey Nook near Saxilby. Six men

:06:07. > :06:08.and one woman have been arrdsted. The youngest aged 25,

:06:09. > :06:10.the oldest in their sixties. Jessica Lane is in Lincoln

:06:11. > :06:27.for us now. Lincolnshire police have described

:06:28. > :06:32.the arrest today at the tip of the iceberg. They say they come as a

:06:33. > :06:38.result of months of investigation. That work will continue. Thd seven

:06:39. > :06:42.people arrested will be held at locations around the county. The

:06:43. > :06:51.allegations are about modern safe Lee slavery. These are people,

:06:52. > :06:57.living in slavery in servittde. They have been living in cramped, squalid

:06:58. > :07:00.conditions, they have not bden given access to food, medical card and

:07:01. > :07:06.water. They have been working for many hours without receiving a

:07:07. > :07:14.decent day's wage. What we know about the seven people? Fivd of them

:07:15. > :07:23.are English and is to them `re Eastern European will stop they have

:07:24. > :07:29.had medical attention, and Lincolnshire police say that

:07:30. > :07:31.safeguarding these people is their number one priority. When it is

:07:32. > :07:35.appropriate, they will be qtestioned as witnesses.

:07:36. > :07:38.Police have been given more time to question two men,

:07:39. > :07:40.arrested following an armed robbery at a bank in East Yorkshire.

:07:41. > :07:43.Officers were called to the TSB on Manor Street, Bridlington,

:07:44. > :07:46.on Saturday morning, after four members of staff were

:07:47. > :07:50.Police now suspect that the robbers had stayed

:07:51. > :07:54.Two men ` aged 50 and 27 ` were arrested in connection with

:07:55. > :08:01.Thousands of pounds has been pledged to help a family who've lost

:08:02. > :08:04.their home after a fire which killed more than 20 dogs in Hornse`.

:08:05. > :08:07.The animals were bred at a private house which burnt

:08:08. > :08:13.Fire fighters say the building was already well alight

:08:14. > :08:15.when they arrived, and the dogs couldn't be saved.

:08:16. > :08:17.Our reporter Emma Massey is in Hornsea,

:08:18. > :08:34.All that remains after a fire ripped through this bungalow. Inside at the

:08:35. > :08:40.time 20 dogs, all of them pdrished. Those who saw it said that the fire

:08:41. > :08:47.took hold quickly. Two days on, and many people living nearby are

:08:48. > :08:50.shocked by what happened. At seven o'clock, you could hear dogs usually

:08:51. > :08:57.yapping, and you could not hear them. Everything was alight. I am

:08:58. > :09:07.presuming that they have didd. It must be heartbreaking, I did not

:09:08. > :09:14.know they had so many dogs `t all. I thought they just had a few. The

:09:15. > :09:18.building was owned by this woman, shown with some of the dogs that

:09:19. > :09:25.died. But no puppies had bedn bred for some time. The couple do not

:09:26. > :09:29.want to appear on camera just now, they are too distraught. But they

:09:30. > :09:35.have said that this is not ` business. This is a family home and

:09:36. > :09:43.their dogs were part of this family. The Fire and rescue service tackled

:09:44. > :09:47.the blaze, but they are investigating the cause. We are

:09:48. > :09:52.trying to establish the cause of the fire. There is not a lot to go on.

:09:53. > :09:59.What we have to do is speak with the family, and try and put togdther a

:10:00. > :10:04.timeline of events leading tp to the fire being discovered. Thousands of

:10:05. > :10:08.pounds of donations have already been pledged by as far afield as

:10:09. > :10:09.Australia. The family say they are thankful, but nothing can rdplace

:10:10. > :10:25.what was lost at the weekend. Councillors at the city of Lincoln

:10:26. > :10:29.Council have approved a new smoking policy. At the moment, council

:10:30. > :10:38.workers are allowed at cigarette break at their manager's discretion.

:10:39. > :10:44.It is going to come in next April. You may want to comment on that one.

:10:45. > :10:47.Thank you for watching us. The time is 6:39pm.

:10:48. > :10:51.Still only one defeat ` Hull City's good start to the season continues

:10:52. > :11:01.Everyone at the football cltb is frustrated. But it is still a point.

:11:02. > :11:02.It is still an early part of the season. They are in the top half of

:11:03. > :11:04.the league. Open all hours once again `

:11:05. > :11:28.a special guest for the country s Tonight's photograph is takdn by

:11:29. > :11:33.Chris Wren. A stratocumulus. I was going to say it was a stratocumulus.

:11:34. > :11:41.Do you want to upset any more major players? What did Pauline h`ve to

:11:42. > :11:49.say? I am dealing with the complaints. Lets have a look at the

:11:50. > :11:54.headline for the next 24 hotrs. It is going to be dry with somd

:11:55. > :11:58.sunshine. Some rain on the way tomorrow evening and tomorrow night.

:11:59. > :12:06.That is courtesy of this we`ther front. It is a big change this week,

:12:07. > :12:16.because we have had easterlx winds. A lot of wet weather to comd this

:12:17. > :12:25.week. 18 Celsius today. As we had through this evening, it looks like

:12:26. > :12:37.it will be dry. Mist and fog in the bottoms of the valleys. Vishbility

:12:38. > :12:46.should be good. Temperatures of 9`11dC. These are the times of high

:12:47. > :12:52.water. It looks like it's going to be a fine morning. There will be

:12:53. > :13:00.some patchy cloud floating down from the north`west. Then, apart from the

:13:01. > :13:07.odd shower, cloud thickens. There is the rain, it holds off into tomorrow

:13:08. > :13:15.night, then it will sneak sdlf. Just the odd shower in the early evening.

:13:16. > :13:23.Temperatures 18 Celsius. Looking further ahead, it could be puite wet

:13:24. > :13:31.for a time, but it will cle`r by Dawn Wednesday morning. The emphasis

:13:32. > :13:42.is on a good deal of fine and dry weather. That is the forecast. One

:13:43. > :13:51.person said that he would w`tch in black and white. That is thd only

:13:52. > :13:54.way they can cope with your shirt. They should watch with the sound

:13:55. > :14:00.turned down as well. See yot tomorrow.

:14:01. > :14:02.David Cameron has held talks with senior Conservatives to discuss

:14:03. > :14:05.barring Scottish MPs from voting on issues that only affect Dngland.

:14:06. > :14:07.They met at the Prime Minister's country residence, Chequers.

:14:08. > :14:10.Mr Cameron has said he wants a settlement on the matter to be

:14:11. > :14:13.reached at the same time as new devolved powers covering tax and

:14:14. > :14:30.Phil texted to say "I personally think England as a country `re going

:14:31. > :14:58.to pay even more tax to fund an already stable Scottish life .

:14:59. > :15:04.Well earlier today I discussed the issue of devolution with

:15:05. > :15:06.Diana Johnson MP for Hull North and the leader of UKIP

:15:07. > :15:20.I started by asking whether Scottish MPs should be able to vote on issues

:15:21. > :15:23.affecting England only. I don't think it is sensible, when xou are

:15:24. > :15:27.dealing with the constitution of this country, to deal with little

:15:28. > :15:30.bits in isolation. You have to look at the whole thing. You havd to look

:15:31. > :15:38.at the whole of the House of Lords. You have to look at how this area

:15:39. > :15:44.can make decisions for them. That is why I want a constitutional

:15:45. > :15:49.convention. How do you think you can see devolution happened nattrally?

:15:50. > :15:54.Eight movement has been started We will see the Welsh and the Northern

:15:55. > :15:57.Irish and we will continue to seek the Scottish asking for mord control

:15:58. > :16:03.and power in their own countries. That will potentially lead to the

:16:04. > :16:07.House of Commons becoming an English house of commons. That is why I

:16:08. > :16:12.think the country needs to have a debate about the weight that we are

:16:13. > :16:15.governed, and the roles of these different assemblies in Northern

:16:16. > :16:19.Ireland and Wales and Scotl`nd, and what we do about England. What I am

:16:20. > :16:25.anxious about is areas like Yorkshire getting the powers they

:16:26. > :16:29.need to best fit the requirdments of our local populations. I am not sure

:16:30. > :16:35.the idea of having an English parliament will ever do that. It is

:16:36. > :16:45.about bringing things down to a much more local level. It is also about

:16:46. > :16:51.the money. If the Barnett formula was applied to Yorkshire, wd beget

:16:52. > :16:56.another ?2 billion every ye`r. `` we would get. It is an impossible

:16:57. > :17:02.dream, because if it was applied to England, that would mean th`t ? 0

:17:03. > :17:07.billion per year. That would double our existing deficit. I am

:17:08. > :17:10.interested in making sure that certain parts of the countrx which

:17:11. > :17:15.are not getting a fair deal under this government get a fair deal and

:17:16. > :17:22.I have been fighting for a fair deal for the city of Hull in particular.

:17:23. > :17:25.I will make it much fairer, not just concentrating on the south `nd

:17:26. > :17:33.London, but making sure that Yorkshire gets its fair share of

:17:34. > :17:48.money. That is linked with political reform. We have a London focused

:17:49. > :17:51.government. We had some e`m`ils after Friday's discussion. Ht has

:17:52. > :18:03.moved on to having an English Parliament. You may have a view on

:18:04. > :18:07.that. You can get in touch with us. We will have some of those responses

:18:08. > :18:14.tomorrow. On Lake programme tonight, I will be talking to Andrew Percy.

:18:15. > :18:18.He was at the talks with a bra minister today about barring

:18:19. > :18:19.Scottish MPs from voting on English issues. If you want to be in touch

:18:20. > :18:27.on that one, you can get in touch. A former Hull City captain says

:18:28. > :18:30.there is no need to panic even though the club have drawn

:18:31. > :18:32.their last two games Ian Ashbee described the prdsent

:18:33. > :18:35.squad as the best there's ever been. He's been speaking to

:18:36. > :18:54.our sports reporter Simon Clark Hull City visits to Newcastle tend

:18:55. > :18:57.to arrive when there is bother at This time, a fan revolt

:18:58. > :19:00.against their manager, Alan Pardew. Today, we invited former captain

:19:01. > :19:03.Ian Ashbee to view the match, It was a game where Hull City made

:19:04. > :19:07.a positive start. A possible goal of the month

:19:08. > :19:09.from Nikica Jelavic. And pushing Jelavic all the way in

:19:10. > :19:12.that competition is Mohammed Diame. But when Pardew introduced

:19:13. > :19:15.Papiss Cisse, the match turned. And the Tigers failed to sed out

:19:16. > :19:26.the game, as Papiss Cisse epualised And yet, with just one defe`t,

:19:27. > :19:30.Hull City stand ahead of Liverpool, Manchester United and Everton

:19:31. > :19:32.in the table. Lots of quality players,

:19:33. > :19:34.no question about that. And that is why people are wanting

:19:35. > :19:46.six points out of the last two Everyone at the football cltb is

:19:47. > :19:49.frustrated, but it is still a point. It is still an early part

:19:50. > :19:52.of the season. And we are in the top half

:19:53. > :19:54.of the league. We were up twice in the Prelier

:19:55. > :20:05.league, and it is usually enough to hold on and it is usually enough to

:20:06. > :20:08.see a game out. Today, we have not,

:20:09. > :20:10.which is totally disappointhng. I think the crop of players are

:20:11. > :20:13.far better than what we had. Goals are there for sure,

:20:14. > :20:15.and it is exciting times ahdad, and I can see many goals in

:20:16. > :20:22.the season this year for Hull City. It is set up for staying

:20:23. > :20:25.in the Premier league a long time. And I believe that it will happen,

:20:26. > :20:28.for sure. So a little work for Steve Bruce

:20:29. > :20:31.this week, before champions Manchester City visit Hull City on

:20:32. > :20:37.Saturday. Hull boxer Luke Campbell warmed up

:20:38. > :20:39.his forthcoming inter`continental title challenge with a stoppage over
