:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening and welcome to BBC Look North.

:00:00. > :00:07.The headlines from us this Tuesday night.

:00:08. > :00:11.Guilty - the P and O staff who used ferries to smuggle drugs into Hull

:00:12. > :00:19.A fresh outbreak of bird flu is confirmed at

:00:20. > :00:27.a farm in Lincolnshire - thousands of birds are affected.

:00:28. > :00:32.I live a farmer with a third case of bird flu has been detected in

:00:33. > :00:35.Yorkshire and literature. Recruiting from abroad

:00:36. > :00:37.to solve the GP shortage - the doctors trained in Poland,

:00:38. > :00:55.on their way to our area. Pictures show a bin man in Hull

:00:56. > :00:57.taking rubbish under the car. They tell us to report fly-tipping and go

:00:58. > :01:03.do it themselves. And Lincoln City's big night -

:01:04. > :01:06.the non-league side will be beamed into millions of homes,

:01:07. > :01:14.as their FA Cup adventure continues. In that first match it ended 2-2,

:01:15. > :01:29.so now they've got them A quiet but cloudy week of whether

:01:30. > :01:41.to come. I will be back later with the details.

:01:42. > :02:00.A 1.8-mile exclusion zone has been put in place around

:02:01. > :02:03.Low Farm in Fulstow with a six-mile surveillance zone.

:02:04. > :02:05.It is five miles from Austen Fen Farm, where another case

:02:06. > :02:09.Some restrictions were lifted there last week but it's not though

:02:10. > :02:21.It's 20 hours since bird flu was confirmed in this farm behind me. It

:02:22. > :02:25.is not a disease that is dangerous to humans but it is highly

:02:26. > :02:31.contagious and deadly when it gets not then a flock and today when vets

:02:32. > :02:43.and Democrat officials alive they spent most of the time securing the

:02:44. > :02:45.site. -- Defra. They are trying to make sure it does not spread

:02:46. > :02:46.farther. It's a sight farmers dread,

:02:47. > :02:49.your land being sealed off Bird flu has found its way

:02:50. > :02:53.into a flock of 6000 turkeys housed Earlier vets prepared

:02:54. > :03:05.to cull the birds which the It is devastating news for the

:03:06. > :03:10.farmer involved in. It is 6000 turkeys last in this outbreak and it

:03:11. > :03:13.means that his farm and his poultry units have to be disinfected and

:03:14. > :03:16.they have to be cleared and he will be closed down for some time.

:03:17. > :03:18.This outbreak is just a few yards from Austen Fen Farm

:03:19. > :03:21.With the same strain of bird flu, H5N8, was found

:03:22. > :03:22.in a flock of 5000 turkeys in

:03:23. > :03:26.It was also detected earlier this month in a backyard

:03:27. > :03:29.Poultry farming is the livelihood of many

:03:30. > :03:39.We've got a number of those sort of places around the area so

:03:40. > :03:47.although the one that happened before is not that far away was only

:03:48. > :03:51.a matter of time before we expected that there would be another break

:03:52. > :04:00.People seem to be keeping their chickens in the area

:04:01. > :04:05.Tomorrow efforts will move from securing the site to

:04:06. > :04:09.A grim day for the farmer and those who tried so

:04:10. > :04:22.So why does this keep happening? This is a highly contagious disease

:04:23. > :04:26.and Defra insist it is wild bisect harried the disease of the mingle

:04:27. > :04:30.with flocks outdoors only take the same food trays with the droppings

:04:31. > :04:34.that can cause the disease to spread but the birds here will be housed

:04:35. > :04:39.indoors ever since the recent outbreak a few miles away. So why it

:04:40. > :04:46.has happened here is a question that Defra plan to looking the next two

:04:47. > :04:51.weeks at. There will be doing what they call seek and trace and will

:04:52. > :04:55.see what anything from this site has moved to, not just bias but also

:04:56. > :04:59.staff movements and vehicles going between farms because it is very

:05:00. > :05:05.important that this disease is stopped from spreading further

:05:06. > :05:10.because poultry farming is big business in Lincolnshire. The Rover

:05:11. > :05:15.300 poultry farms employing hundreds of people and 90 million birds are

:05:16. > :05:19.raised here every year and as this disease is in the area it is

:05:20. > :05:22.affecting exports and could be affecting people's jobs which is why

:05:23. > :05:25.so much effort is going into making sure it does not spread further.

:05:26. > :05:27.Nigel Gibbens is the government's Chief Veterinary Office.

:05:28. > :05:33.I asked him what farmers in Lincolnshire were doing wrong.

:05:34. > :05:41.We're looking at this case. We confirmed that only yesterday. This

:05:42. > :05:44.is a very infectious bird flu virus. I think you would wrong to leap to

:05:45. > :05:49.the conclusion that anybody is done anything wrong. It is very difficult

:05:50. > :05:52.to stop farms from becoming infected which is why we Irish farmers and

:05:53. > :05:58.bird keepers to do anything they can. Something is going wrong. These

:05:59. > :06:02.birds have been housed since the zebra so we cannot blame wild birds

:06:03. > :06:07.for this infection. What other farmers doing wrong? What more do

:06:08. > :06:12.they need to do? Farmers need to do everything they can to protect their

:06:13. > :06:17.birds, even when they are housed. The issue with wild birds is the

:06:18. > :06:21.birds don't have to contact the kept birds directly. The virus is highly

:06:22. > :06:26.infectious and it can be spread on people's shoes and peoples clothing

:06:27. > :06:30.and equipment that may go in to housing or on food. There are lots

:06:31. > :06:36.of ways that infection may enter our house. Farmers need to do everything

:06:37. > :06:38.they can to prevent that and as I have said before this can be really

:06:39. > :06:44.difficult of farmers need to do everything they can but be given a

:06:45. > :06:53.degree of challenge which is essentially from wild birds farms

:06:54. > :06:58.are at threat. What would be a message tonight to farmers who are

:06:59. > :07:02.watching the county and beyond? Two important things. One, do everything

:07:03. > :07:06.you can. Make sure that wild birds cannot access your birds and keep

:07:07. > :07:10.them housed if you can't. Whatever you do, make sure that when you go

:07:11. > :07:16.to your birds, you are clean and are not carrying anything to your birds

:07:17. > :07:20.on your feet are in any other way. Also recognise that once disease

:07:21. > :07:24.gets into a flock it can move from one flock to another. Being a for

:07:25. > :07:29.signs of disease and reporting quickly to us which farmers are

:07:30. > :07:33.doing so that if the worst does happen and infection occurs we can

:07:34. > :07:40.do with it quickly and it does not spread quickly. I know you say

:07:41. > :07:43.there's nothing to worry about but the public will be. Would you eat a

:07:44. > :07:47.Lincolnshire turkey tonight without a thought? Absolutely without a

:07:48. > :07:51.second thought. Public of England is very clear that the risk to public

:07:52. > :07:54.health is very low and the Food Standards Agency has confirmed many

:07:55. > :08:08.times they do not consider this a risk in the food chain. We will have

:08:09. > :08:10.more at how past ten tonight on the programme. I will be talking to the

:08:11. > :08:16.National Farmers Union. Two former P ferry workers have

:08:17. > :08:18.been found guilty of conspiring to smuggle class A drugs into Hull

:08:19. > :08:21.from the Netherlands. Edward Tron from Gateshead

:08:22. > :08:23.and Mark Quilliam from Liverpool were arrested after the conviction

:08:24. > :08:25.of one of their former It follows an investigation

:08:26. > :08:28.in which Edward Tron outlined plans to import cocaine

:08:29. > :08:30.to an undercover officer. Officers boarding P's Pride

:08:31. > :08:48.of Hull in 2015 after of the ferry's ship steward Edward

:08:49. > :08:50.Tron. This is the moment they came

:08:51. > :08:55.to arrest him in his cabin. You are under arrest on suspicion of

:08:56. > :08:59.importing class a drugs. The arrest led to the 51-year-old,

:09:00. > :09:02.and Pride of York cook Mark Quilliam being arrested for conspiring

:09:03. > :09:05.to import cocaine into the UK. Mr Tron's wife Susan was also

:09:06. > :09:07.arrested for money laundering. However in Hull Crown Court

:09:08. > :09:11.the jury heard that Edward Susan Tron deposited

:09:12. > :09:13.?140,000 in cash into three separate bank accounts between 2009 and 2014

:09:14. > :09:18.- money which they claimed came The pair and Mark Quilliam were only

:09:19. > :09:24.caught following the 2013 arrest of another P employee

:09:25. > :09:28.who was found carrying ?60,000. His conviction leading

:09:29. > :09:32.to an investigation in 2015 They put an undercover officer

:09:33. > :09:37.onboard to whom Edward Tron confessed his whole smuggling

:09:38. > :09:39.operation. Later in court he said he'd

:09:40. > :09:43.made those stories up, but the jury heard that Edward Tron

:09:44. > :09:46.was a "very skilful and adept liar", who in his own words said: "I can

:09:47. > :10:01.lie when I need to." The court also heard that telephone

:10:02. > :10:03.kiosks such as at Victoria Dock as well as disposable mobile phones

:10:04. > :10:11.were part of a multi-million pound smuggling operation which involved a

:10:12. > :10:12.one-man bringing drugs on board in Rotterdam and bringing them off in

:10:13. > :10:19.Hull. A P Ferries spokesman said:

:10:20. > :10:21."P Ferries operates a zero tolerance policy

:10:22. > :10:23.towards illegal substances. We cooperated fully

:10:24. > :10:24.with the police investigation." The three will be sentenced

:10:25. > :10:34.tomorrow, when Edward There was a police chase outside a

:10:35. > :10:39.pub in Rotterdam and a partner in Hull the three have all been found

:10:40. > :10:46.guilty. All three will be sentenced tomorrow and Edward Tron and Mark

:10:47. > :10:54.Quilliam had been told to expect substantial sentences.

:10:55. > :10:56.A fourth man has been unsuccessful in his bid to sue

:10:57. > :10:58.the Catholic Church, over alleged historical abuse at

:10:59. > :11:03.249 men are carrying out the litigation

:11:04. > :11:06.against the Diocese of Middlesbrough and the De La Salle order over

:11:07. > :11:08.allegations of decades of abuse at the St William's children's home

:11:09. > :11:11.Of the five test cases for compensation only one

:11:12. > :11:14.has been successful - receiving a ?14,000 pay-out.

:11:15. > :11:17.Those acting on behalf of the men say today's judgment has no

:11:18. > :11:28.The Brexit minister David Davis has told a Lincolnshire MP

:11:29. > :11:29.the government will support the county's farming

:11:30. > :11:31.industry after Britain leaves the European Union.

:11:32. > :11:33.His comments came on the day Theresa May delivered

:11:34. > :11:37.The Prime Minister said the UK will pull out

:11:38. > :11:45.of the European Single Market when Britain leaves the EU.

:11:46. > :11:51.Can my right honourable friend assure the house that agriculture

:11:52. > :11:53.will be central in any trade negotiations and that the

:11:54. > :11:58.high-quality food standards for which British farming is famed will

:11:59. > :12:08.be a key principle in those negotiations? The answer very simply

:12:09. > :12:10.is yes. We are a large market for European agricultural food

:12:11. > :12:19.production that they are a large market for us and we will keep that

:12:20. > :12:22.in mind. The Brexit secretary, David Davies.

:12:23. > :12:26."Completely unacceptable" - a council says it'll investigate,

:12:27. > :12:32.after a bin man is filmed dropping litter and kicking it beneath a car.

:12:33. > :12:34.And Lincoln City prepares to be beamed into millions

:12:35. > :12:47.of homes, in their FA Cup match against Ipswich.

:12:48. > :12:55.Kris Lake took this photo of the Humber Bridge.

:12:56. > :13:08.It is a stunning photographs. Another picture tomorrow night. How

:13:09. > :13:12.are you? How are you? I hear your insomnia must be really bad as I

:13:13. > :13:22.noticed you said you'd been listening to Paul is a weather sure.

:13:23. > :13:32.-- show. It will help. Don't be cruel about it. The weather. It will

:13:33. > :13:37.be a lot less eventful than last week, you will be pleased to know

:13:38. > :13:42.that quite boring and say me day on Dave. Lot of dry weather to come but

:13:43. > :13:47.it will be fairly cloudy. A lot of cloud in the sky. It will be high

:13:48. > :13:51.pressure dominating the weather so a lot of settled weather to come but

:13:52. > :13:55.unfortunately it will be a fairly cloudy high and over the next 24

:13:56. > :13:58.hours and very weak when a fan stuck underneath the high summer could be

:13:59. > :14:02.gapping places. Much colder and clear the area trying to enter from

:14:03. > :14:07.the new continent and we might start to see some effects of that around

:14:08. > :14:13.Lincolnshire and around The Wash. It will was be a little bit cooler.

:14:44. > :14:47.day tomorrow but generally a lot of dry weather to come but it will be

:14:48. > :14:53.fairly cloudy and it will always be cooler the further you are towards

:14:54. > :14:56.The Wash. Not much breeze over the next few days and nothing much to

:15:52. > :15:54.on BBC Radio Lincolnshire. A dozen GPs who have been recruited

:15:55. > :15:57.from Europe to work in Lincolnshire are undergoing their final training

:15:58. > :15:59.before starting work The county's currently short

:16:00. > :16:05.of about seventy GPs, and it's hoped the new recruits

:16:06. > :16:08.who are getting their last bit of training in Poland, will help

:16:09. > :16:11.ease the strain on surgeries. Here's our Health Correspondent,

:16:12. > :16:12.Vicky Johnson. The shortage of GPs has

:16:13. > :16:14.been well documented, it's even led to the closure of some

:16:15. > :16:17.surgeries across Lincolnshire. Dr Graham Parker tried retiring two

:16:18. > :16:20.years ago but was persuaded to take up a part-time job at this

:16:21. > :16:22.surgery in Wragby. He's one of only two GPs working

:16:23. > :16:25.here, other shifts are filled by locums and he admits

:16:26. > :16:27.it can be difficult. It is stressful and sometimes

:16:28. > :16:33.if you want to pass, or get some advice from your colleagues

:16:34. > :16:35.and they are not here, The situation here at Wragby

:16:36. > :16:40.is like many other surgeries There are currently 70 GP vacancies

:16:41. > :16:43.in the county with another 75 doctors expected to retire here over

:16:44. > :16:46.the next five years. But 25 GPs are now being recruited

:16:47. > :16:49.from abroad, with the first 12 due For the Wragby practice that

:16:50. > :16:58.can't arrive soon enough. It will just be the consistency

:16:59. > :17:01.of having a regular GP, full-time, It will be better for the patients,

:17:02. > :17:33.better for the staff. The new GPs come from places like

:17:34. > :17:38.Greece, Lithuania and Poland. We will support them with dedication

:17:39. > :17:41.and providing the social activities and integrate them with the

:17:42. > :17:44.practices so they feel part of the community and part of the practice

:17:45. > :17:59.committee and part of the NHS Trinity.

:18:00. > :18:05.Health watch says it will improve matters. It will let a lot more

:18:06. > :18:09.people get implement with the doctor when they want to. -- to get an

:18:10. > :18:12.appointment. The new doctors from Europe

:18:13. > :18:15.are being given three-year contracts and will each receive a bonus

:18:16. > :18:18.if they stay on longer. Vicky Johnson, BBC

:18:19. > :18:21.Look North, Wragby. Last night Gainsborough MP

:18:22. > :18:24.Edward Leigh came on to talk about starting a debate

:18:25. > :18:26.about whether we should pay We had a big response,

:18:27. > :18:33.here's just a few of your messages. Gary from Lincoln has texted,

:18:34. > :18:35.he says, paying upfront to see a doctor or paying for your bed

:18:36. > :18:39.in hospital, doesn't sound a bad idea, providing you stop paying

:18:40. > :18:42.National Insurance contributions Joan from Hull called,

:18:43. > :18:48.she says, I'm so angry, why not charge all the foreigners

:18:49. > :18:50.who come into this country agree with Edward Leigh,

:18:51. > :19:03.but he is quite right to try and break the taboo of finding

:19:04. > :19:06.an improved model for use No system can cope with unlimited

:19:07. > :19:23.demand with no limits on use. Thank you for those, I am sure it is

:19:24. > :19:26.one which we will be returning to at a later date.

:19:27. > :19:28.A bin man has been caught on CCTV spilling rubbish

:19:29. > :19:31.over a street in Hull - and then kicking it all beneath

:19:50. > :19:54.and litter onto the road, the first reaction

:19:55. > :19:58.Instead, it was promptly kicked under a parked car.

:19:59. > :20:12.They're complaining at people fly-tipping and telling us

:20:13. > :20:14.to report fly-tipping and they do it themselves.

:20:15. > :20:19.Like I say, we would have been fined if we'd have done it.

:20:20. > :20:25.It is their job to keep places clean and they kicked it under the car.

:20:26. > :20:44.Today some of the dirty nappies and litter are still in the road.

:20:45. > :20:47.Jill says she took the issue up with another bin man

:20:48. > :20:59.to clean up some of the waste but not all of it.

:21:00. > :21:14.The bin belongs to another resident. That is disgusting. Other residents

:21:15. > :21:19.say it is not the first time this has happened. They don't do it

:21:20. > :21:25.properly. I think they are trying to get the job over with.

:21:26. > :21:28.Hull City Council said it aims to provide the highest level

:21:29. > :21:30.of service and will be investigating this matter thoroughly.

:21:31. > :21:32.The council said it is completely unacceptable behaviour

:21:33. > :21:33.and the appropriate action will be taken.

:21:34. > :21:37.Phillip Norton, BBC Look North, Hull.

:21:38. > :21:39.We would like to hear from you on this story,

:21:40. > :21:44.what's your experience of bin collection teams where you live?

:21:45. > :21:50.Do you have praise for your local teams and have you ever experienced

:21:51. > :21:51.anything like this, occasionally regularly? Your thoughts on the

:21:52. > :22:07.server should get. Humberside Fire and Rescue have

:22:08. > :22:09.revealed a new look for one The usual red paint has been

:22:10. > :22:13.swapped for pink and orange as they take on the Hull City

:22:14. > :22:17.of Culture 2017 branding. It was on display in

:22:18. > :22:27.Trinity Square earlier today. East Yorkshire tennis player

:22:28. > :22:29.Kyle Edmund has made it through to the second

:22:30. > :22:31.round of the Australian Open. He beat Colombia's Santiago

:22:32. > :22:33.Giraldo in three sets - despite the temperature reaching 35

:22:36. > :22:45.Andy Murray has helped his I've been training with an day for

:22:46. > :22:52.some four years now through pre-seasons and staff and definitely

:22:53. > :22:56.the first ones, it was a step up for me because I'm not used to that but

:22:57. > :23:01.the more you train with them, the more time you spend on to a level,

:23:02. > :23:03.you have to get better. You have no choice.
