:00:00. > :00:00.Good evening, and welcome to BBC Look North.

:00:00. > :00:11.Jessica Danby died when she was hit by a car trying to overtake

:00:12. > :00:16.Today her mother tells us the driver's jail

:00:17. > :00:28.two years is nothing. At the end of the day he is spending one year in

:00:29. > :00:35.prison one year on licence for killing somebody. That's disgusting.

:00:36. > :00:37.Also on the programme tonight. Radio 1's Big Weekend

:00:38. > :00:39.is going to be in... It's official - Radio 1's

:00:40. > :00:45.Big Weekend will come to the area, as part of City

:00:46. > :00:48.of Culture celebrations. 50,000 music fans are

:00:49. > :01:00.expected to attend. It's really exciting. It'll be good

:01:01. > :01:02.for Hull. Music connects people and it will be awesome that people are

:01:03. > :01:03.there enjoying the music. "They saved his life" -

:01:04. > :01:05.tributes to medical staff at Hull City's game against Chelsea,

:01:06. > :01:07.after midfielder Ryan Mason The memorial wall to a friendly deer

:01:08. > :01:12.which died after a dog attack And find out how a man in a wheel

:01:13. > :01:32.is helping to preserve And we start the week's weather

:01:33. > :01:42.forecast with a warning of fog. The latest coming up shortly.

:01:43. > :01:47.Teenager Jessica Danby was on her way to work at a coffee

:01:48. > :01:48.shop in Lincolnshire, when she was involved

:01:49. > :01:54.The 19-year-old was driving her moped on the A52 wearing

:01:55. > :01:57.high-visibility clothing, when she was hit by a car coming

:01:58. > :02:03.The driver - who was trying to overtake a lorry in thick fog -

:02:04. > :02:09.But today Jessica's mother told Look North that the two-year jail

:02:10. > :02:13.term he was given just isn't long enough.

:02:14. > :02:21.Our correspondent Vicky Johnson has more.

:02:22. > :02:27.She was a very bubbly character. Very determined. She had an

:02:28. > :02:34.infectious laugh. You always knew where she was. Her mother and

:02:35. > :02:38.stepfather try to remember the good times but it is hard. It's

:02:39. > :02:44.devastating. There is a big hole missing. It's never going to get

:02:45. > :02:49.replaced. Remember when I was in reception we had show and tell. She

:02:50. > :02:54.was in a sub wiring actress and had just completed her first show real.

:02:55. > :02:57.She would have done it. It might have taken her awhile but I know for

:02:58. > :03:00.a fact you would have done it. If she watched you anything she did it.

:03:01. > :03:05.It was a foggy morning much like today when Jess was making her way

:03:06. > :03:09.to her job along the A50 two. She had done all the right things, she

:03:10. > :03:17.was wearing a high viz jacket and her mobile lights were on. But then

:03:18. > :03:22.a driver crashed head on into her in dense fog after overtaking a lorry

:03:23. > :03:26.tractor unit. He had admitted causing date death by dangerous

:03:27. > :03:30.driving and was jailed for two years. At the end the day he has

:03:31. > :03:34.killed somebody. It is as bad as manslaughter in my eyes. He has gone

:03:35. > :03:39.out and made decision to overtake, he knew he couldn't see, and is

:03:40. > :03:44.dangerous. And he should be punished properly for that. At present in the

:03:45. > :03:47.UK, death by dangerous driving has a maximum sentence of 14 years. The

:03:48. > :03:51.Government is currently looking to increase this to life. In 2015 the

:03:52. > :03:58.average length of sentence given was just under four years. A judge has

:03:59. > :04:02.had to take into account the background of the driver, has he got

:04:03. > :04:09.a previous record, what he does for a living, his own family, is he

:04:10. > :04:15.remorseful, and then he has to look at the victim's statement, what are

:04:16. > :04:21.the consequences of the death on the deceased's family. He has to put all

:04:22. > :04:23.that into a balance. The family say everyone should take more

:04:24. > :04:28.responsibility and drive with more care. People go to jail regularly

:04:29. > :04:32.and then still commit the same offences. It is just a lack of

:04:33. > :04:41.concentration for a single second that can be avoided. Who's you think

:04:42. > :04:45.I am? It's 15 months since Jess was killed. Her family say a two-year

:04:46. > :04:50.sentence is simply not enough for a life cut so tragically short.

:04:51. > :04:52.This is one we'd like to hear your thoughts on.

:04:53. > :04:56.Do you think careless and dangerous driving sentences are long enough?

:04:57. > :04:59.Do you think they do enough to reflect the impact it

:05:00. > :05:27.It's one of the biggest free music festivals in Europe,

:05:28. > :05:30.attracting 50,000 fans every year to see the world's biggest

:05:31. > :05:35.And today, it was announced that Radio One's Big Weekend would be

:05:36. > :05:39.coming to this area as part of City Of Culture celebrations.

:05:40. > :05:41.The first major headline acts are confirmed - Kings

:05:42. > :05:43.Of Leon and Little Mix - with more to be announced

:05:44. > :05:49.And this is where they'll be coming to at the end of May.

:05:50. > :05:53.Burton Constable, a normally sleepy rural village just ten

:05:54. > :06:01.Our correspondent Leanne Brown is at Burton Constable Hall now,

:06:02. > :06:03.chosen as the venue for the two day festival.

:06:04. > :06:20.This grade one listed Elizabethan country house is surrounded by 300

:06:21. > :06:26.acres of parkland, so size played a huge part. The city of culture team

:06:27. > :06:32.and Radio 1 did look at other venues in Hull but in terms of logistics,

:06:33. > :06:36.transport and safety, this was seen as the best option. And of course

:06:37. > :06:41.those a list music stars might need somewhere to land their helicopters,

:06:42. > :06:44.and they might want a BIP area. Our whole 2017 reporter has been looking

:06:45. > :06:47.at the line-up. It's the biggest free

:06:48. > :06:50.ticketed event in Europe. BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend attracts

:06:51. > :06:54.headline acts and music lovers from around the world and just

:06:55. > :07:34.before eight o'clock this morning And this is where it is going to be

:07:35. > :07:37.whole held. Burton Constable Hall. Right now I am still in the exact

:07:38. > :07:42.location where Kings of Leon and little mix will be performing on the

:07:43. > :07:45.main stage. In the background you concede Burton Constable Hall

:07:46. > :07:49.standing tall and proud. Organisers say this was the only location that

:07:50. > :07:50.was big enough locally to cater for the 50,000 people that will be

:07:51. > :07:54.descending on the area in May. We are going to be using roughly 50

:07:55. > :07:58.acres of this and then we have got the main grounds,

:07:59. > :08:12.the riding school block and then What are the logistics for the

:08:13. > :08:17.preparation? It's already started, planning where the fencing will be,

:08:18. > :08:21.whether roadway will be. That will take about eight days to put into

:08:22. > :08:25.place. The two-day music event is coming as part of the city of

:08:26. > :08:28.culture celebrations and for those who hope to get tickets it will be

:08:29. > :08:37.their first experience of on this scale. It's really exciting. I think

:08:38. > :08:40.it'll be good for hole. He's convenient for in hell because we

:08:41. > :08:47.won't have to travel. Music definitely connects people. How good

:08:48. > :08:51.you think this is the city of culture? I think it will be really

:08:52. > :08:55.influential because a lot of artists are coming and a lot of people who

:08:56. > :08:59.see them in the media will want to be a part of that. There is four

:09:00. > :09:03.months to get Burton Constable ready for what will be another top event

:09:04. > :09:16.coming to Yorkshire in 2017. So how will the area cope with

:09:17. > :09:19.thousands of music fans? Around 100 people live in Burton Constable and

:09:20. > :09:23.I've been getting reactions from the local community.

:09:24. > :09:25.Surrounded by meadows and lakes, Burton Constable is the place

:09:26. > :09:29.to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of rural East Yorkshire.

:09:30. > :09:38.Is a real jewel in the crown of East Riding. Probably hidden away to a

:09:39. > :09:39.lot of people in the world. This is opportunity to really showcase what

:09:40. > :09:40.we have in East Riding. But is it ready for

:09:41. > :09:50.an influx of people? It's going to bring a lot of trade

:09:51. > :09:54.to the village. City of culture in Hull is brilliant. A lot of new

:09:55. > :09:59.people coming to see what Yorkshire is all about. It will bring

:10:00. > :10:07.everybody together and it is massive. One local is hoping for

:10:08. > :10:11.some extra trade. There's going to be a lot of mess left afterwards

:10:12. > :10:12.which is good for us. Basically that is what we do.

:10:13. > :10:15.And the stately home isn't new to large events -

:10:16. > :10:25.for the last few years it's hosted the Cornucopia Music

:10:26. > :10:33.They do well they get a good crowd. It's time to go to the next level.

:10:34. > :10:38.In the 60s there were rock festivals. In the main grounds.

:10:39. > :10:41.They've had some big famous brands. They've had big crowds therefore

:10:42. > :10:44.stop It's not unusual for a music

:10:45. > :10:48.The annual Leeds Festival is at Bramham Park is held 12

:10:49. > :11:01.it's no more than an extension of the city. We are as one really. And

:11:02. > :11:08.I don't understand how people sometimes see barriers by S sign on

:11:09. > :11:08.the road saying East Riding or hole. Wirral one big family.

:11:09. > :11:11.As work continues on the logistics, it's hoped that this huge musical

:11:12. > :11:16.event will bring a boost to Hull and the east.

:11:17. > :11:27.More details will be released in coming weeks as to how to get

:11:28. > :11:30.tickets. They are highly sought-after so people are looking

:11:31. > :11:34.forward to aim mention of Burton Constable. It was described as the

:11:35. > :11:41.area's best kept secret. Not any more.

:11:42. > :11:52.One of the organisers of the Big Weekend was asked why they chose to

:11:53. > :11:56.bring it to hole. We've been looking at it for about five or six years.

:11:57. > :12:00.Burton Constable is a fantastic site. There's a huge population of

:12:01. > :12:06.young people in Harlem. We felt they needed access to events such as

:12:07. > :12:13.this. It's not often you see major events such as this in the area. The

:12:14. > :12:16.site and also that factor as well as the fact that there is the city of

:12:17. > :12:21.culture was an obvious reason to look at it. Some people are saying

:12:22. > :12:29.in social media why not actually in Hull? Maybe at the football stadium?

:12:30. > :12:32.We looked at the various sites around the city itself and actually

:12:33. > :12:38.there's a kind of templated if you like of the site that we take to

:12:39. > :12:43.whichever city we go to. And we simply could not fit it into some of

:12:44. > :12:47.the parks that were on offer. The infrastructure at Burton Constable

:12:48. > :12:50.is really spot on. It's a bit out of town but we need to make sure we can

:12:51. > :12:54.replicate the model we take year-on-year. So when will the

:12:55. > :13:00.tickets be available and how do people get them? Were not ready to

:13:01. > :13:06.announce those dates just yet but if they listen to radio one they will

:13:07. > :13:10.find that information. It will be basically going online and

:13:11. > :13:14.purchasing tickets on a first-come first-served basis. And the local

:13:15. > :13:18.people will get the lion's share of the tickets? That is correct. The

:13:19. > :13:23.proportion of the tickets available to the local area is higher than

:13:24. > :13:28.ever you. We always like to give the lion's share to the local community.

:13:29. > :13:34.Exciting times. I am a man of a certain age. Would I enjoy this

:13:35. > :13:39.music? You would love it. You would love it. But we have three artists

:13:40. > :13:43.already announced today, but the other artists on the line-up after

:13:44. > :13:46.nominal. We have some really big... But you won't have me tonight? No.

:13:47. > :14:02.We wish you well with it. We would like your thoughts on this.

:14:03. > :14:05.Is it good news for the area? Are you hoping to get tickets? What you

:14:06. > :14:11.think it will mean the businesses and people in the area? Here's a

:14:12. > :14:13.reminder of the e-mail address and text number.

:14:14. > :14:16.Lincolnshire County Council say they could save ?150 million

:14:17. > :14:17.over five years if they were to become

:14:18. > :14:22.They intend to put the option to a public referendum

:14:23. > :14:27.The County Council leader says it would be more

:14:28. > :14:32.We have confusion over the roads - the county council maintains

:14:33. > :14:35.the road, the council sweeps it -sSo there's all this confusion.

:14:36. > :14:38.Now, frankly, the public don't really care.

:14:39. > :14:41.And we work as best we can together, the county and district

:14:42. > :14:46.We wouldn't need eight chief executives, you

:14:47. > :14:49.wouldn't need eight management teams, you wouldn't need eight of

:14:50. > :14:54.The Government's announced it's going to spend just under

:14:55. > :14:57.?160 million across Yorkshire and the Humber,

:14:58. > :15:02.Flood defences around the Humber will be strengthened, meaning more

:15:03. > :15:06.sites can be used to build houses, offices and factories.

:15:07. > :15:08.Parts of Bridlington, Goole and Grimsby will

:15:09. > :15:13.I'm also announcing ?2.1 million of funding for Goole,

:15:14. > :15:16.which is going to be to create an intermodal terminal,

:15:17. > :15:18.so that's going to bring the sea, the river, the

:15:19. > :15:21.canal, the rail and the road network together, to make it

:15:22. > :15:25.And ?3.5 million to unlock development in Grimsby as

:15:26. > :15:43.Praise the Hull city medical staff after one of the team's players

:15:44. > :15:45.fractured his skull during a game. And calls for dog owners

:15:46. > :15:47.to keep their pets on leads, after a fiendly deer is killed

:15:48. > :15:59.at a nature reserve. Here was tonight's photograph. It's

:16:00. > :16:15.very atmospheric, isn't it? Will you be going to watch the

:16:16. > :16:32.bands? I've never even heard of them. Have you managed to blag any

:16:33. > :16:39.free tickets? Let's look at the next 24 hours. We have a warning of fog

:16:40. > :16:42.and that could be particularly dense later in the night. Extra time will

:16:43. > :16:48.be needed for the commute at the weekend. The weekend looks dry and

:16:49. > :16:52.cold with frost and fog. The fog is largely a problem during the first

:16:53. > :16:59.half of the week. High pressure is dominating yet again. Just noticed

:17:00. > :17:04.the isobars veering round to the South East and that will drag in

:17:05. > :17:09.some very cold air. Temperatures on Thursday might not be higher than

:17:10. > :17:12.one or 2 degrees by the day. Some fog is slow to clear. Just in the

:17:13. > :17:16.last couple of hours thicker cloud has brought the odd spot of rain.

:17:17. > :17:19.That has tended to lift the fog that had not cleared through the course

:17:20. > :17:28.of this afternoon. That band of cloud and the odd spot of rain will

:17:29. > :17:31.clear and we will see Mr and fog becoming widespread later. Because

:17:32. > :17:37.we've had some rain ice could be an issue as well. Watch out on the

:17:38. > :17:49.roads. Lowest rural temperatures down to minus three Celsius. 27

:17:50. > :17:52.Fahrenheit. Here are the sunrises. Some dense freezing fog patches to

:17:53. > :17:56.contenders in the morning. It could be really slow to clear. Eventually

:17:57. > :18:02.most of the fog will clear and we will cease hazy sunshine just like

:18:03. > :18:07.today. That fog will thicken up against tomorrow evening's commute.

:18:08. > :18:09.There will be a warning in place I'm sure by tomorrow evening.

:18:10. > :18:17.Temperatures will come in at 4 degrees where Falkirk persists.

:18:18. > :18:23.Brightening later, very cold wind on Thursday. That is the forecast.

:18:24. > :18:32.The sunrises or sets? You only had one job! Whatever.

:18:33. > :18:33.Prompt action from Hull City's medical team

:18:34. > :18:37.That's the opinion of one leading surgeon, after the Tigers midfielder

:18:38. > :18:41.was stretchered off with a fractured skull during yesterday's game

:18:42. > :18:47.Here's our Sports Reporter, Simon Clark.

:18:48. > :18:50.This is the moment in the first half when Ryan Mason suffered

:18:51. > :18:55.The referee, Neil Swarbrick, recognised the seriousness instantly

:18:56. > :19:00.It was eight minutes before Mason was stretchered

:19:01. > :19:13.from the field and taken to St Mary's Hospital in Paddington.

:19:14. > :19:26.Today a leading neurosurgeon said this saved Ryan Mason from serious

:19:27. > :19:32.injury. We are seen changes in recognising when this serious injury

:19:33. > :19:38.has occurred. If he had been allowed to carry on possibly a worse outcome

:19:39. > :19:48.might have followed. In their latest bulletin, the club's say:

:19:49. > :19:51.The severity of the injury is not common in football and this

:19:52. > :19:54.was the reaction of one former professional on Match Of The Day.

:19:55. > :19:57.I think they realised straightaway how bad this was and our thoughts

:19:58. > :20:01.It's a terrible thing to see on a football pitch.

:20:02. > :20:06.Of course Gary Cahill was just innocently going for the ball.

:20:07. > :20:09.It was a sickening challenge and let's hope he gets back

:20:10. > :20:14.Since Mason was carried from the field, the football world

:20:15. > :20:18.has taken to social media to express concern.

:20:19. > :20:21.Former team-mate Gareth Bale said get well soon, mate, our thoughts

:20:22. > :20:29.We would like to send our best wishes to Ryan Mason

:20:30. > :20:33.And Tigers team-mate Curtis Davies added,

:20:34. > :20:39.thinking of you Ryan Mason, get well soon, mate.

:20:40. > :20:45.Last night Gary Cahill, the Chelsea player involved

:20:46. > :20:48.Mason can expect to make a full recovery from his injury but that

:20:49. > :20:51.could take weeks, even months. Simon is with me now -

:20:52. > :20:59.what's the latest on Ryan Now we know he's talking that is a

:21:00. > :21:08.welcome relief. He's also been able to see her visitors, one of which

:21:09. > :21:11.was the man he crashed into. His family say they've been overwhelmed

:21:12. > :21:16.by the support that they've had in these difficult 24 hours. And now of

:21:17. > :21:18.course everybody hopes he makes a speedy recovery. The long road to

:21:19. > :21:19.recovery starts now and we'll keep you posted all

:21:20. > :21:28.the way through. Hull city have added to their squad

:21:29. > :21:35.with signing of Liverpool midfielder on loan to the end of the season.

:21:36. > :21:40.The Serbian midfielder cost and ?20 million in 2014. He's been on loan

:21:41. > :21:41.to a Portuguese side the first half of the season.

:21:42. > :21:43.People working at a nature reserve in North Lincolnshire say they've

:21:44. > :21:46.been left heartbroken, after a much loved deer had to be

:21:47. > :21:50.Daphne the Deer, as she was nicknamed, had become a popular

:21:51. > :21:54.attraction at the Water's Edge centre in Barton, and was one

:21:55. > :21:58.of the few wild deer there tame enough to interact with people.

:21:59. > :22:04.Daphne was a wild roe deer, but chose to stay close

:22:05. > :22:07.to the visitors' centre at Water's Edge after people

:22:08. > :22:15.Rob is one of the volunteers at the country park who got to

:22:16. > :22:20.It's not very often you can get that close to a deer that is

:22:21. > :22:24.She was our best kept secret round here, because we didn't like

:22:25. > :22:29.A memorial wall in the visitors' centre

:22:30. > :22:32.is filled with tributes from young and old.

:22:33. > :22:35.It's an unusual sight but a measure of this animal's

:22:36. > :22:41.She used to pop her head over the fence and watch us warm up

:22:42. > :22:47.She was unique - I called her "our little lady",

:22:48. > :22:52.I think it's disgraceful and I think people with dogs should be

:22:53. > :22:56.Today vets confirmed that Daphne died

:22:57. > :23:01.This country park prides itself on its open

:23:02. > :23:03.access to dog walkers, but they are being reminded

:23:04. > :23:08.to keep their pets on a lead or under tight control.

:23:09. > :23:11.Most visitors do understand that and appreciate that.
